A. I think a nice restaurant would be a good place to do it. Are you near the water? For my parents' anniversary, we took a riverboat cruise and had the party there. The cruise people were really helpful with the details.

A. I would host a cocktail/dinner party for your parents. Invite all of their friends so your parents really enjoy themselves. Add in small details to reference their 30th wedding anniversary. Suggestions:
1) Create a playlist of the best songs from 1980. It will transport guests back in time to the year your parents got married.
2) Print seating cards for the guests with pictures from major 1980 events. For example, one card could have a picture the Lake Placid Olympics, another the cover of The Empire Strikes Back, another a CNN logo and so on. For more events, look on wikipedia's 1980 page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980. Or you could use pictures of your parents on the seating cards and use these events to create a guessing game for all of the guests, winner gets a prize.
3) Bring pearls into the decor. The traditional 30th anniversary gift are pearls. Buy pearl headed pins and stick the pins into the center of flowers (scroll down on this page: http://www.wedding-flowers-and-reception-ideas.com/white-wedding-bouquet.html). Or wrap strands of pearls around the base of a bouquet so you no longer see the stems and place the bouquet in a vase. Or place pearls in a bowl and nestle votive candles into the pearls.
