Good 50th birthday gift idea for dad?

Nick

gag gift? certificate? hmmm thanks

Answer
I have a great Idea. You can gift him a car if you really loves your dad, if your budget is limited then you have an option like second hand car. There are so many websites where you can order online. Even I gifted a used car my parents on them 25th wedding anniversary.

I need a great idea for a 50th birthday present for my mom.

christianw

I wanted to order a mothers ring, but her bday is like 12 days away, and they take longer than that to order. My mom is hard to shop for, and I want to do something special. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
I am 52 years old and the greatest gifts that my children has given me, is the gifts that showed me that they have taken time to know me for who I am, and not what I do (mother).

Do not get me wrong, I love being their mother, but I also love them knowing ME.

If your mom is, A person who have needs, but often neglect them, find out something that she needs...

If your mom is, A person who, worries or is stressed, A 1 day spa treatment, works wonders. (I loved that one and still talk about it)

When gifts were bought for me, by people, the ones that I cherished the most was the ones that showed, that the person who gave the gift took time to know ME.

My worst gifts were, the ones that I got, and I knew the gifts were not about me, but they were about the style and the likes of the person giving the gift... I often had no use for these gifts...

Last hint : NEVER GIVE MOM A GIFT THAT WILL MAKE HER WORRY ABOUT YOUR FINANCES.

She will appreciated the gift, but later she will worry...

(Never be too cheap either !!!!)

I wish you all the best, happy hunting !!!

any ideas for engagement party gift in Australia?

K2010

just found out some relative of mine got engaged in Melbourne, Australia, going to be a party this month (in 3 weeks), Engagement party gift isn't neccessary I read, but what would be nice to send out there from the USA? Can I ship Macy's International?

Answer
If you are invited to a engagement party and they are putting on a free feed and refreshments it is customary to turn up with a gift, especially when they stipulate 'no gifts'.
I often have goods shipped from the US to Australia and for it to arrive within three weeks you would have to send it express post which usually takes just under two weeks. Normal Priority Mail can take four weeks. Depending on the weight this could prove very expensive.
Why don't you look up websites of Australian stores like David Jones (top end), Myers, Harris Scarfes, Target, Bunnings, Dan Murphys (grog) and buy something from them using a credit card (Visa & MasterCard are widely accepted)
If you don't know what they would like ring up one of their mothers perhaps. Youngsters of today are into the latest gadgets they tell me

Engagement presents? Ideas?

-(`v

My best friend is getting engaged next month. Personally I think she's too young and the guy is WAY too old but i have to be supportive bcos she's been the most awesome friend to me and i love her heaps. I was wondering if people bought presents for engagements and what u usually buy.

I have no idea. Should i buy something for the couple, or just for her?...they aren't going to live together until they are married so home ware stuff should probably be saved for the wedding gift.

Any ideas for gifts would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks!

Answer
Usually engagements aren't really gift giving occasions. But my best friend got me a wonderful wedding planning book when I got engaged. It had planning tips, budgeting sheets and check lists. It was kind of like a binder so there were pocket-folds in it to keep contracts and receipts, etc. I thought that was a nice gift.

I think she just got it at a local book store.

An empty photo album would be a nice gift. I know now that I am married I need to buy a few photo albums to keep all our wedding photos in (not every wedding photo will go in a professional album, but we would like to keep a lot of the photos to look through). So if I had gotten those as gifts it would have been great!

Hope that helps!

July 4th hostess gift?

Alyssa not

I am attending a friend's mother's july 4th party, I was always brought up that if you go to party you bring a hostess gift. I am not of age to buy alcohol yet, (20 years old) and i am told that everything is taken care of. What should I bring?

Answer
A hostess gift is must when invited to someone's home for a party of any kind. What about one of these ideas..

1.Send flowers in advance or bring a 4th of July themed bouquet in a nice vase with you.
2. A pound of fresh coffee wrapped in a dish towel or something fun.
3. Kitchen gadgets - Wine openers, Candy Thermometers, etc. Random little items are always fun to receive.
4.Scented Candles / Fancy Soaps Something that you donât always think of buying yourself.
5.Make it yourself- do you have something you make that is your specialty? Well make that and package it up nicely- jams, cookies, candies etc.
6.A specialty item from your area- is there a special store that sells chocolates a bakery known for something?
7.Wrap a bunch of fun magazines together, guilty pleasures you sometimes donât indulge. They make for great poolside and beach reading.
8.I have a sweet tooth! Once I received a large bag of all kinds of candy. The next day I brought it into the office to share and heard, âWhy donât I have friend that would bring me a bag of candy???â

I need baby shower hostess gift ideas...?

charlie

I have two hostesses for my baby shower this weekend and I need some ideas.

What have you given to the hostess of your baby showers?

Answer
Buy or make them some chocolate candy. It's a lovely indulgence that we girls love, but feel guilty about getting for ourselves. I nice box of gourmet chocolate is great, or even just make up a batch of chocolate truffles or something like that. There are recipes and gift ideas at http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com

By the way, Congratulations on your new baby - lucky girl!

Gift ideas for my long time friend?

rawrlikead

his birthday is on wednesday, hes turning 15. im the same age, and im a girl (opposite sex in case you didnt make the connection) hes just a really close friend, nothing more, we've known eachother since we were 9. i need ideas, i have NO budget, aka im broke, so i need ideas for stuff i can make, but i want it to be of quality and meaningful, not crappy. thank u for ur time

Answer
boys love food. make him some cupcakes. You can get a box of cake mix for about 1$. Get 2. Read the directions and see what else you'll need. Depending on what TYPE of cake mix, you need to MAKE the frosting because it's really easy and cheap(er than that tubed stuff and yummier). I'm going to link this page (http://www.delish.com/recipes/cooking-recipes/birthday-cupcake-kids-recipes ) because all the recipes are simple (which means cheap). You could cook him a batch and lay them out to make something (something that he's interested in like, a band, sport, game, etc) with the aid of food coloring. You should be able to get everything for about 10$ at the grocery store. And you'll probably already have most of it at home (eggs, milk, butter, sugar). He'll appreciate the time and taste! And you'll even get a snack!!!

Family gift ideas?

SJM

Money is extremely tight with everyone this year and I was trying to come up with a neat idea for a gift to give to the whole family instead of buying for each person individually. It would be for my dad, stepmom, brother age 3, brother, age 15, and stepbrother, 19. Am I just being cheap not buying individual gifts and taking the easy way out? I think everyone will understand that money is tight becasue my husband and I are also helping raise our nephew while my sister is in Kuwait. I just feel that a family gift is impersonal and need great gift ideas! PLEASE HELP!!

Answer
Family gifts are not impersonal...you are thinking of them and that is what really matters! Set a price for your gift....now go to your local Thrift Store and find a nice sized basket...maybe you can also find some Silk Christmas Floral arrangement..tear the arrangement apart, and wire some of the flowers to the basket, (or glue them with Hot Glue...you can also use Floral Picks from a local Variety Store or the Dollar Store...depending on the size of Basket you find, fill it...here are some ideas for it...While you are at the Thrift Store, look for Coffee Mugs and Tins with Christmas Motifs and scenes...these can be filled with Christmas Candy, Jelly Beans, Foil Wrapped Chocolates, or individual packages of Cocoa... or you might add Marshmellows and a can of Whipped cream found in the dairy Dept of your Grocery Store and a large box of Hot Chocolate mix, maybe find a Christmas Movie that you think they all might enjoy...wrap it or place it in the basket.....or buy the Christmas Cokes in the Bottles, and add Popcorn and Butter with the Movie....or MCDonalds Gift Cards..use a little imagination, and put the gift together.....If the basket will hold the tin, make and decorate some Sugar Cookies... and place them in the tin and if you want to....take over a gallon of Milk! Nothing is better than Milk with Cookies! You can wrap the Basket or Tin in Celephane Wrap, (to do this, Cut 4 very long pieces of Celephane, enough to go completely around your basket or Tin, or Coke or whatever......Criss-cross them in the shape of a X, draw up the ends, and tie with Curling Ribbon, and add lots of Curl ,a Card and tie at top of package.) Other ideas, make a Cheese Ball, and do Crackers and Wine, or make some Cider or Wassail and take it over...You know your family, and you know what they like...I'm sure you can think of something that will turn out to be personal and not too expensive! They will understand that you are on a budget..do not let the Commercialism of the season play on your heart. And you might want to buy a little something special for the 3 year old, Tootsie Toy Cars are not very expensive or a color book and crayons, a 3 year old is not hard nor expensive to buy for, and so you might make a small exception there if you want to...the others won't take offence at this....Good Luck, and God Bless! Hope I've helped!
Here is my favorite recipe for Sugar Cookies, I have made them since I was 10 years old and continue to make them every year (I am 56 now) They have always been popular wherever I take them...I like this recipe, because it makes about 6 dozen cookies, and you do not have to refridgerate the dough before rolling them out. However you can refidgerate the dough if you want to wait. Your nephew might want to help you and send some to his mother in Kuwait...if you do this, Freeze them before mailing and they will get there fresher....
I mix these cookies by hand, not a mixer!

Sugar Cookies
Sift together the following ingredients:
3 c. Flour, 1 tsp. baking Powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 1/4 c. Sugar.

Cut in 1 c. of Shortening with Fork or Pastry cutter. (You can use partial Butter or Margarine if desired)

Add 3 Unbeaten Eggs and 1 tsp. Vanilla...mix well.

Roll out onto lightly floured Board, about 1/4" thick and cut with Christmas Design cookie Cutters. Bake in Moderate Oven preheated to 375 degrees, for about 8 minutes.. Cool and frost or decorate.

(You can roll a little thicker or thinner, depending on how you like the cookie, but must experiment with cooking time if you do this)

Frosting

1 c Sifted Powdered Sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp Vanilla or other flavoring, (I always use Vanilla) 1 1/2 TBsp. Cream or Milk. Mix well... color frosting if desired with Food Coloring-Frosting will be thin....Frost your cookies and use sprinkles, decorator Sugars and decorettes, or decorate after Frosting sets. Have a table covered with Waxed Paper to let the Frosting set on the cookies, then deorate with decorator icing. Then let Frosting set again. Place in Air Tight Tins or Tupperware and Refridgerate, or Freeze until distribution.(Sometimes I go the extra mile, and decorate, but most of the time it is just the frosting and decoator Sugars & sprinkles...the cookies are always a big hit, and I also do them on Valentines Day!

Humorous Story: I was a Room Mother for 6 years, and always took these Cookies for School Parties...when the kids got older they had to take Home-Ec, and at Christmas time their teacher had them make sugar cookies and then eat them at their party..most of the kids had been in one or more of the classes of which I had been Room Mother......when they had their party, they all piped up that their cookies were terrible, and that the teacher should get my recipe! (My son flunked that assignment, and the teacher never asked for my recipe!)

List of Cute Gift Ideas for Your Boyfriend

Things to Do

Take your boyfriend on a date to an event or location he might like, or just find a secluded spot for a romantic meal.

Picnic: Set up a picnic at the park, beach, or even in your own living room. Bring candles, good food and don't forget about some champagne glasses for toasting.

Card and tickets: Find a cute card and purchase tickets to a sports game or concert he wants to see. Try TicketsNow or StubHub.

Visit animals: If your boyfriend is an animal lover, he may enjoy a visit to a zoo he's never visited. If the closest zoo he hasn't seen yet is far away, make it into a weekend getaway or day trip.

Objects That Show Your Affection

Sometimes, choosing an object to give him is easier and less expensive than pulling together an event. That doesn't mean the gift can't be special:

Message teddy bear: Buy a teddy bear or other stuffed animal and put a card or message around its neck. You could also find one with a zipper back and place a message inside.

Trinket: You can find little trinkets in card stores. Tell him to place it in his wallet and every time he looks at it, he can think of you.

Picture frame: Purchase a picture frame and place a photo of both of you in it.

Inscribed watch: You don't have to spend a fortune on a nice looking watch. Find one with a big enough back and have a special message engraved on it. You can purchase a watch wherever you'd like and then take it to your local jeweler if the store where you purchase the watch doesn't offer engraving services.

Matching jerseys: Does he have a special team and player he likes? You can buy him a jersey and then buy one for yourself to wear for the next time you watch a game together. Try Dick's Sporting Goods.

Word magnets: Word magnets are words you can place on your refrigerator to make sentences. You can easily make these at home by purchasing pieces of thin magnet at a craft store, printing out words from your computer and gluing them onto pieces of magnet. For this cute boyfriend gift idea, make sure to choose words that signify how much you mean to each other. If you need some ideas or would like to know what word magnets look like, visit Funky Fridge.

Recordable key chain: Check Radio Shack or other electronics store for a recordable key chain or picture frame. Leave a loving message on it so your boyfriend can hear your sweet voice and words any time he is missing you.

Mini digital picture frame: Purchase a digital picture frame for his keychain and download all the pictures you have of the both of you on it. If you don't have many of just the two of you, upload pictures of just yourself. You can find these anywhere from Amazon.com to Kohl's.

Help, I need a last minute gift idea for a 5 year old boy.?

resq-girl

I don't want to spend more than $25 and am not really sure what he likes as far as characters, etc.

Answer
If it's really last second then I would recommend you to give his parents money or a gift card for that amount so they know what he likes and they'll take him to his favorite shop.

However here are some alternatives
1) An action-man figure
2) A teddy bear
3) All boys love cars :)
4) A police car or fire engine to play with

That's about as much things I can think of :)

Take Care and hopefully you pick a great gift that he'd enjoy!

xx

Great birthday ideas for a 13 year old?

secret_age

um i am turning 13. i want to have something with a small amount of people but i wanna go all out to spoil my friends and i . but heres the problem. i dont think my moma would want to spend 200$ on a party!!! HELP ME..

Answer
well. here is what i did for my 13 year old daughter(assuming your a girl) she invited 5 of her close friends. i bought 5 20$ visa gift cards and had each parent send there child with 20$ cash instead of presents. i then gave my daughter a 100 gift card of her own. i took the 6 Girls to the mall and they had a 5 hour Shopping day. so instead of my child getting gifts..she wanted it to be about the group instead of her(which i was very proud of). so my daughter had 100$ to shopp with and each girl had at least 40$ each. OMG they spent hours tryin stuff on..laughing giggling.... then i bought them all pizza for lunch. all in all it set me back about 300$ total..and my daughters birthday was the talk to the school the following monday. if your a boy..........well my favorite Bday as a child growing up was Pizza and a trip to the Nickle Arcade with my friends to play video games. that is a timeless birthday! for boys

What kind of gift to I give a friend that just graduated with a Doctorate?

rj

My closet friend from college just completed her PhD and she is graduating soon to make it official. I won't be able to attend the graduation but I wanted to get her a present to congratulate her on getting her doctorate but I have no idea what would be an appropriate gift. Any suggestions?

Answer
A great graduation gift would be a fine piece of Wall Art or even a handcrafted wooden jewelry box if she is into jewelry and small trinkets. I got a MarqArt jewelry box for my friend for her graduation and she loves it. It looks great too..very sophisticated and something that is different and unexpected! Take a look at their collection, am sure you will find out that's within your budget.

As an undergraduate is it appropriate to give a graduate student adviser a gift?

cari_2389

My graduate student adviser is done with his PhD and will be leaving. Is it necessary/ appropriate to give him a gift to thank him for all of his help?

Answer
You could give him a nice graduation card with a heartfelt message inside.
Gift giving is a nice idea but you need to be careful. If you are a student and taking classes from him, you may want to wait until the grades are turned in. The reason I say this is because teachers, even grad students need to be careful with receiving gifts- they may be construed as bribes- trying for higher grades.

If everything is over and grades are in, and you feel a gift is appropriate- go for it. Otherwise, I say a card with a note is just as nice. He can keep the card as a keepsake. It's a nice way to show your appreciation.

Good Disneylander Christmas gift?!?

MmmbopAndi

Okay, So over the summer my bff and did Disneyland like every day and it was so fun. At the end of summer I dubbed her a real "Disneylander", because I felt that she finally appreciated and loved it as much as I did, since I grew up there, and she was ready to pass that love on to someone else. (Touching, I know.) So I wanted to get her an "honorary Disneylander" kit sort of thing for Christmas but I'm a bad gift giver and I don't know how to pull it off. Any ideas?

Cross Country Locker Sign & Gift Ideas ?

RunningIsL

We have secret sisters for state/region in cross country.
we make them signs and get them gifts before regions & state.
any ideas about what to get my "sister" or any good locker sign ideas?
I'd like to not just give her candy but im thinking like maybe some cute gifts
as for the signs -- im thinking of writing Good Luck and putting some cool running quotes??

Answer
As far as the gift goes, the reusable water bottles are great and something she'd probably use. They're fairly inexpensive and just a good gift that runners use. For posters, just say something like push it in or something and have a sweet animal on it. Everyone loves disney too, so you could always just do a princess or something that doesn't relate to running.
