I am traveling to Italy for a workshop &vacation. I want to take along some small gifts. Any ideas?

Q. I live in the San Francisco Bay area. I have some ideas (like key chains, bookmarks/postcards of San Francisco, regional candy like Sees Candies). What items to you think I could add to this list? Criteria: can't be fragile (don't want breakage), can be heavy and they must be easy to pack.

A. I live in northern Italy and bring See's Peanut Brittle back with me sometimes. It's different from candies that you can get here. The chocolates are just another brand though. there are many, many good chocolate makers throughout Europe. Italy hosts several chocolate festivals during the year including a huge Eurochocolate festival in Perugia in October. The keychains are a good choice and I like the bookmarks rather than postcards. You could also consider calendars with photos of the San Francisco area.

If you were visiting me, I'd want a loaf or two of sourdough bread. I was diverted through the SF airport on the way back to Italy from Denver last year and picked up a couple of loaves at the airport for the family that lives upstairs - that went over pretty well. If you're looking for handouts for people at the workshop rather than a couple of personal gifts, that isn't very practical though.

How can I find out how much my bottle of wine is worth?
Q. I found a bottle of 1995 Vino De Eyzaguirre San Francisco de Mostazal Reserva Especial Cabernet Savinignon at my in-law's house. They said they received it as a Christmas gift. How can I find out how much the bottle is worth?

A. You could do a search for it on sites like winezap.com or other types of sites and see if you find a price that wine is currently being sold for. I'd just do a google search using the name of the wine You should probably should enter the vintage (1995) as well. Several different sites will pop up. Some will give you tasting notes, others may just be establishments such as restaurants that carry the win and you will also find listings for sites such as winezap that sell wine via the internet. Please note that any price you find at a restaurant is at least a 20% markup from regular retail and that you likely can't sell it for the regular retail price either. If you don't get any results do that then you may want to contact a local wine shop. They may not be able to give you any info about it but they can get info from the wine distributors and these folks have a huge depth of knowledge about wine. One thing anyone who is interested in buying it will want to know is that it's been stored properly - meaning temperature controlled and on its side. It will especially important that it hasn't been kept somewhere either too warm or where there was a large swing in temperature. The link below is to a vintage chart which assigns ratings to vintages in specific regions/varietals. Robert Parker generates the list and is one of the most respected wine experts in the world. That should give some idea of how good the wine is.

Where can I find the best gift to offer for christmas in san francisco?
Q. I am looking for a gift to offer to my brother in law and I am tired of big chains store. I was wondering if anyone know of a place where I can look at in SF for an authentic christmas gift.

A. I agree with Drew, you would need to provide a lot more details.. however, I just happens to run into the following web site http://www.kaddoz.com while checking twitter that gives you a list of store in which you can find ideas for your brother in law , right now they do not have much content but it gives you an idea of good local stores to visit in san francisco.

Ideas for a surprise adventure birthday trip?
Q. Help! I am trying to figure out what I can give my husband for his birthday and running out of ideas. He loves travel/hiking/backpacking/mountain biking. We live in San Francisco. It has to be under $500. He also loves technology and photography. I am thinking - some sort of surprise weekend adventure trip. If you have any ideas, please chime in! Thanks!

A. If he likes hiking/mountain biking all that sorts why dont you get him a really nice gift and plan somewhere that he likes to hike and create a sort of search like you hide the item that you got him for his birthday and you create a map and then he has to go find it either that or a scavenger hunt. Idk sound like good cheesy ideas to get him out and about where he likes to be. good luck
