Q. I love him so much, and these past 6 months have been the best. I want to give him a really creative and homemade gift. Or a gift I can personalize online for not much money. We agreed on no big presents. And if you have a homemade gift idea, give a website if there is one? it helps :)
I want our 6 month perfect with an amazing and unique homemade gift!! Thanks!!!

Ive known him for several years because he is my brothers best friend, so we are close. Hes 16 by the way. I want to get him something meaningful, but not too much for just a 6 month anniversary. Any help would be great. thanks

Answer
I'd suggest getting a neat little box or basket (baskets may be a little too girly, but if not, opt for a basket) and fill it with some good, but quick and easy snacks. You may think about a bag of chips, a box of granola bars, a bag/can of hot chocolate or coffee mix, some homemade cookies, maybe garlic bread, or some pepperoni sticks. This will depend entirely on his taste. You could think about leaving him a gift certificate for a nice restaurant as well; you two could go on a nice dinner together, and hopefully have a good evening together.

Another good idea is to go to a craft store and buy a plain box. Decorate this box with any decorations you see fit, and title it "Coupons" - Use construction paper and cut even coupon cards; you can write cute little I.O.U's on each coupon, and let him use them when he's having a rough day. Some coupon ideas: "Three kisses." or "One back rub" or even "Will help you tidy your house!" You can stipulate rules if you'd like, "You may only use three coupons per day." or you can have a free for all, but don't be surprised if he uses them all right away. ;) If you have extra construction paper, you could also include an envelope titled "more coupons" - This is a thoughtful idea, plus he'll appreciate all the hard work & free kisses. ;)

If you talk to your boyfriend online or through text message a lot, print off your favorite exchanges of words and throw these all into a "book" - When you two are fighting, missing each other, or simply want to go over some memories, he can go back through this book & read those encouraging words.

If you're thinking about going the "cute" route - you can find a bottle from any craft store, or even at the grocery store (Find a sauce bottle you like, pour out the sauce, wash the bottle, and you're good to go.) You can choose to fill your bottle halfway with sand (colored or not) if you'd like, it's not a requirement. Take a piece of paper and write a note on the paper, or in your case, maybe you should use your love letter. Roll up the letter & stick it inside the bottle. There you have it, a message in a bottle.

Put together a little movie night package so that you and your man can have a wicked night in the near future. Go into a local video store and find out if they have gift certificates available, if they do, purchase one, but just enough to get a couple of movies! If you'd rather go the other way, you could purchase two DVD's, preferably ones that /he/ wants to see. Add a bag of microwavable popcorn, a couple of cans of pop, and a few other munchies. Your boyfriend will love it.

He's bound to love anything that you're going to do for him. Good luck!

What to get my best friend for her 17th birthday?

Megan

She is going to be 17 and I really want to get her a great gift. So I need ideas something that she'll really like. She likes monkeys. softball, candy but not chocolate, movies, and food. So please give me any ideas that deal with these 5 things rolled into one.

Answer
Something really cute with all those items would be like a gift basket. Grab a basket and put a few movies in there, some candy and popcorn to eat while she watches them, and maybe a stuffed monkey to put in her room, along with a softball keychain or something like that. Cute and simple! :) Good luck.

What are some good baby shower gift ideas?

Ashley

My sister-in-law is having a baby shower next month and I am not sure what to get them for a gift. They registered for mostly high priced items that are out of my price range. I am looking to spend about 30-40 dollars on their gift. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
The thing I appreciated most for my baby shower wasn't the cute little onesies and thumb-sized socks, although they were adorable. My friend got me a little divided-up basket filled with things like baby nail-clippers, one of those little nose-suckers, a thermometer, etc. There was baby shampoo and lotion in it, and Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Plus some lotion and bath salts for me. She also gave me these hand-written coupons. There was on for a weekend where she would watch the baby, one to take me out for lunch, things like that. The cute clothes and stuff like that are great, but that one I got was very personal and thoughtful. I still use the basket to put diapers and wipes out in the living room so I don't have to go all the way into baby's bedroom when I'm cooking or something.

What should I buy or make for birthday gifts?

I know this may sound rather odd, but I try to plan financially everything I do a year in advance in hopes to avoid any surprises in my checkbook. Anyways, what should I buy or make for people next year for their birthdays? I preferably want to give them a homemade gift (what are some creative ideas for homemade birthday gifts?), but if that's tasteless I'm open to almost anything.

My best friend will turn 44 years old

My brother, his girlfriend, and a friend will turn 19

Important friends will turn 21, 23, and 24

My boyfriend will turn 27

A dear male friend who's in prison will turn 23 yrs. old

A brother will turn 50 and a sister will turn 40.

My important nieces and nephews between 2-15

Daddy will turn 75 (my mom is deceased)

My other siblings and friends will receive birthday cards.

Thank you in advance as I greatly appreciate your input and advice.

Answer
Wow, organization like that is amazing (if a little scary). Only you know your friends, and your talents (some people should never bake anything for anyone), so suggestions really might not be so good.

For those that like them, how about candles? They are easy to make, all you need is some wax (even from old candles), crayons for color, string (dipped in the hot wax, curled around a pencil on one end, weighted with a coin for the bottom of the candle), scent (or unscented - some people like candles but gag @ the smell), maybe one of their favorites (can get samples sometimes, but oils work best), and a quart or half gallon waxed paper juice or milk carton. This also should prob be done in one of those disposable foil pans.

Melt the wax, adding the crayons, scent (or not). Stir. Cut off the top of the carton where it starts to fold, so that you have just the square. Rest the pencil with the string (wick) on top (the weighted end should be at the bottom of the carton. Pour a little wax in to fix the wick in place in the center of the carton. Give it a little time to solidify (about 20 min-1/2 hr. Stick the whole thing in the fridge or freezer if you want to move it along more quickly).

Get some ice cubes from the tray and fill the carton with them. Stir the wax again (the wax should be hot enough to pour). Then pour it into the carton over the ice cubes. Let it cool & set (give it a couple hrs minumum, overnight is best, or do the fridge thing. You don't want to stick this in the freezer or the water in the carton will re-ice). Peel away the carton.

The ice will have created pockets in the candle and it looks pretty cool, certainly not like a factory candle.

For your friend in prison, baked goods sound like the way to go, perhaps lots of cookies he can share. Or a cd?

Ok, I'm off to finish my Christmas shopping for this year, half of which is still undone!

What are some easy homemade gift ideas?

Q. My friend, age 13, forgot that her sister's 20th birthday was today and doesn't have a present to give her. I need some easy homemade gift ideas for her to make.

Answer
A picture frame:
Cut out words from a magazine, and deco pauge (no idea how to spell it) onto the frame.

This would be easier if we knew what items she had available to help make a gift. A hot glue gun? What?

What are some good gift ideas for a pollyanna gift game christmas party?

Some friends and I are having a pollyanna gift giving party/christmas party. We set a $20.00 or more price limit and it's for a group of 14 years old. It's also a mixed party so I need gift ideas for something both girls and guys would like. Thanks !

Answer
Christmas is the time of year when many families spend more money than they have to create a holiday to remember for their children. With the economy in a downward spiral, saving where you can is important. Christmas is a time of giving, and this is a perfect chance to teach your children to give back.

Giving back

There are many families that are in worse economic shape than you are. Taking the family to a soup kitchen to volunteer during the holiday season will help make it memorable for everyone. It will also help your children appreciate what they have much more.
Thrift and consignment stores

Shopping at thrift stores you can find many items that can be the perfect gift for your child. Most items are gently used and look brand new. You may find the occasional new item that still has the tag on. Starting in these stores is the perfect way to find a multitude of gifts at a fraction of the cost.

Dollar stores

Looking at stores such as the Dollar Store or Five Below you can find some great gifts at a cheap price. Purchasing several of these types of gifts can help fill under the tree and stockings. This can help save money while still making Christmas look plentiful.

Pollyanna

If you have a large family buying many gifts can be daunting. A fantastic way to save money is to do a Pollyanna gift exchange. This is basically putting everyone’s name in a hat and drawing a name of one person to purchase a gift. This will save an enormous amount of money. Instead of buying gifts for ten people you will only be buying for one person.

Cut your gift list

When economic times are good, giving to everyone can make one feel wonderful. Now may be the time to take a look at the list of people you normally give gifts to and decide who you can eliminate from gift giving. This will probably be the hardest part to do as you don’t want to offend anyone. You can choose to give a nice Christmas card instead. In these times it is necessary.

The important thing to remember is Christmas is a time to enjoy your family and appreciate your loved ones. While it may be a challenge for children to understand making a memorable Christmas does not mean you have to spend a lot of money.

What are some good date/gift ideas for a one year anniversary?

Nathan

Today, my girlfriend and I will have been dating for a year. We are both 20 and in college. I have been trying to think of some unconventional date/gift ideas that would not be very expensive (I am a poor college student) and she would still want to tell all of her friends about it lol. Thanks!

Answer
Well there are allot of inexpensive gifts that you could find, like in Target or Wall-mart you could find a nice Locket and you could put both yours and hers picture of it in the locket and with a nice card, but I know that Target and Wall-mart have inexpensive jewelry that would make her heart especially happy when you have been dating for a year, with her picture and yours it would be like a symbol of pure devotion to only her and you can get an inexpensive car there for only 99 cents. This along with the locket would make anyone swoon for you.
Hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Other Christmas present ideas for family?

on Party Ideas For 2 Year Olds | Best Party Ideas
best gift ideas for a two-year-old girl image

pupluver97

Luckily I know what I am getting for my grandmother for Christmas (a tie blanket that i made), but the others are tough. My first sister, brother, mom, and best friend are the hardest.

My sister is graduating from college in like a week so I need help with that too. For her, I was thinking that I would buy a sweet sister photo frame that I found on Amazon and put a picture of us two in it and give it to her. I don't know if that should be her graduation present or Christmas present but either way I need to buy it soon for it to get here in time. For her birthday a couple months ago, I made her a card and wrote a letter that made her cry (she is really emotional). I want he to know how much I care about her, but I don’t want to make her cry again. I want ALL of my Christmas presents to be meaningful, and I am willing to spend some money but I am only a 15 year old girl and don’t have a ton. My sister is 23 and she means to world to me.

My other sister is older and is married with a two year old girl and four year old boy (I love those kids sooooo much!) but I am not sure if I will buy her anything for reasons I would rather not post. I love her, but I don't know if I can find a real meaningful gift for her because of some stupid and selfish things she has done, but if you have any ideas, please be my guest! (NO GIFTCARDS WHAT-SO-EVER!)

I know what my parents are getting me for Christmas (oops) and i kind of feel bad about it. I really want it, but I don’t know what to give back. I am the youngest, so i hate to admit it but i am kind of spoiled. I feel like my parents spend more than is necessary on me and i really want to show my appreciation to them My mom loves aggot hunting and rocks and fossils and all of that stuff. (We want to go to Madagascar one day lol) My mom says that she wants a rock cutter or polisher or tumbler or something but they are expensive so I might be able to split it with my sister but she is pretty poor with her boyfriend since they are only just graduating from college, and my mom may have already bought herself a rock tumbler or is planning to from the Christmas money she already got. I don’t know but i want to find something meaningful and although that is something I know she really wants, it is not something I would usually buy especialy since I have virtually no way of getting it without her knowing unless I found the perfect thing and managed to get my sister’s help.

My dad, his birthday is only in a little over a week so i am stuck. I might just make him a cake since he thinks everyone will forget about his birthday since it is sooo close to my sister’s graduation, but for Christmas, I don’t know. I love my dad but we have an odd, unbalanced relationship sort of like with my other sister. Maybe I will just give him a card with a meaningful saying or something. My dad rarely shows real emotion because of the way he grew up, but I wish I could make him. I feel that I owe my daddy in a way.

My brother is probably the toughest of all. He is 21, loves hunting and hanging out with friends. I really can’t think of anything meaningful for his Christmas present.. He will be in Germany with one of friends for Christmas this year, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to get him anything. I wish that i had a better relationship with my brother and could spend more time with him, but he is never around. I would love to go skiing with him or something this winter, but I don’t know if we will get the chance. He wais we could go last year but never did. We went togeather when I was in 7th and 8th grade with school and that was really the last time I got to spend a lot of time with him. His stuff lives at home, but he lives with his friends closer to his school. I am usually home alone with my parents since all of my siblings have pretty much moved out. He is one of those guys that has a lot of energy but, thankfully, is using it in a productive way by shooting deer and become a cop to help society's fight against crime. I want my brother to know how much I do love him and miss him. I get a hug from him every chance that i get, but it just does not feel like enough. My brother is crazy, but I love him and miss him, and just want a present that will show it in one way or another.

Last but not least, my best friend. Because of drama in our school, we have become better friends than ever this year. Maybe I should just give her a gift card (she is the only exception) but I don’t know if that would even be good enough. It feels incomplete on my part. I don’t know. For reasons unspoken, she is tough to buy for. I do want to give her something meaningful, but I really don’t know what.

I am sorry that this is so long, but I really want this to be a special Christmas.

For your college sister... You might like to get her a coffee mug with a picture of the two of you on it. Or a sweet sister saying on it.

For your dad... Make him a batch of fudge and add a letter from you about how you feel about him. You can even say how you both are so different, yet you love him so deeply and you are glad he is your dad.

Fantasy Fudge
Yes, this is the original Fantasy Fudge recipe from the back of the Kraft Marshmallow Creme jar. We'll never know why they changed the recipe on us, but we've preserved the recipe for you right here.

3 cups sugar
3/4 cup margarine
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 12-oz. (340 g) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 7-oz. (198 g) jar Kraft Marshmallow creme
1 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Traditional method:
Combine sugar, margarine and milk in heavy 2-1/2 quart saucepan; bring to full rolling bail, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate till melted. Add marshmallow creme, nuts & vanilla; beat until blended. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Let cool and cut into 1-inch squares.

Microwave method:
Microwave margarine in 4-quart microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) 1 minute or until melted. Add sugar and milk; mix well. Microwave on HIGH 5 minutes or until mixture begins to boil, stirring after 3 minutes. Mix well; scrape bowl. Continue microwaving on HIGH 5-1/2 minutes; stir after 3 minutes. Stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Cool at room temperature; cut into squares. Makes 3 pounds.

Note: Can be made in a smaller pan for thicker squares (yield will be reduced).

Servings: 117

< Fudge would be a good gift for your sister and her kids also. >

For your brother... He might like a wind up flashlight. The kind that never needs batteries, you just crank it. Homestead, Fl for Children?

top gift ideas for 4-year-old girls image

Little Mis

I am thinking to move to Homestead since you get more for your money if you compare it to miami. We are moving from Puerto Rico and we have a 6 and 4 year old. Education is very important to us since both of our children are gifted and they are into chess, ballet, piano, girls scout and taekwondo. I am a clinical psychologist and basically I am looking for a very relax, tranquil, friendly, family oriented community with a good elementary school near. Any ideas? I would appreciate any feedback about Homestead. My husband will be working in Medley and I heard that traffic is so intense that it can take him an hour and a half to get there from homestead is this true?

Answer
Miami Dade County has a mediocre public education system at best and the schools in Homestead are among the worst in the system. Probable reasons (this my personal view): They have a high proportion of migrant worker kids & the schools are such outlyers (far from the rest of the county) that teachers transfer out as soon as they have the seniority. The ONLY thing you get more of for your money in Homestead is housing -- because it is so far out. The best public schools are in the wealthiest areas like Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay or Miami Beach. If your kids' education is your absolute top priority then either move into one of these top neighborhoods or look for a private school.

I'm 21 years old and I've got a 2 year old daughter, and a 7 year old sister (My dad's daughter) I have custody of. I'm adopting an adorable 4 year old little girl. I'll have her in time for the Holidays, Her social worker said we'll have her in December. I'm decorating her room for one of her Christmas Presents. What are some ideas?

We just moved into a home that looks like this: http://www.blogcdn. com/www.luxist. com /media/2010/12/a12152261.jpg ((Without the spaces)

It's a little smaller than that though, just a little but we do have those two Porches / patios. I'm gonna wait to do the tree until we get Linden. I'm getting Stuff this weekend, but I need a little help.

Present to get for:
-Parents (Mom and Step-Dad)
-Daughter
-Sister
-Soon to be adopted daughter
- 1 Step-Sister and Brother (Twins- 19)
- Half sisters (Twins- 5)
- Little Brother (He's 4 months)
- Older triplet brothers (28, My dad's sons and family. One of them has twins, 2 girls [4], another has 2 boys and a girl [8, 3 and 2] and the other, 3 girls and a boy 1 and 9)

I'm so terribly sorry it's a little messy, but it's the only way I could explain this. I also need stocking stuffer ideas for my kids.

Thanks in Advance, Apollonia

Answer
You have a lot of family to buy for, so personally I would put the emphasis on traditions and family not presents. I have twins and I let them write down or tell me 3 things they absolutely had to have for Xmas and I told them Santa would definately bring them ONE of what they wanted. Now some years they got all 3, some years they got just one of what they wanted and the rest of the toys were what I thought they needed. This gives you some wiggle room. If your finances are tight one year the kids don't get dissappointed. You also might not agree with what they want and have to use your parental judgement.

One tip: don't put the tree up right after Thanksgiving, wait until around the 15th. The kids get so crazy with excitement for so long its to big of a buildup.

Christmas traditions that are easy to start. Hot cocoa and cookies with a Xmas movie. Everyone has to watch make the movies longer and more age appropriate as they get older. Pop popcorn and string with the 7 year old. Perfect you and her time. Make paper chains and decorate then glue together. The 2 year old can color the paper chains with the 7 year old. You help with the glue. The dollar store has construction paper for this.

Decorate the outside trees with lights.everyone can help.
Bake Xmas cookies. You don't have to get fancy you can make em from scratch or buy the dough from the store. You only need 3 or 4 cookies cutters and 2 or 3 colors of sprinkles. all the kids can help with this, expect a mess. I use a Xmas vinyl tablecloth every year for the project the kids love making cookies on top of Santa. Its great just clean and put away for next year.

Make a birthday cake for Jesus the day before Xmas. Thee are so many small traditions you can pick out. the kids are young so add one or two into the mix every year. I also started the tradition of new pajamas Xmas eve. That is the one gift they get to open xmas eve after church.

Hope this helps some

great gift ideas 7 year old boy image

wudbiser

My cub scouts are 7 years old and want to raise money to donate to the local police K9's. They are excited about buying a gift card from a pet store and giving it to the police. The police chief wants to be there to thank the boys, give them a tour of the police station, and then have the dogs do tricks for the boys. Any ideas you have that are easy for 7 year olds to do would be of great help.

Answer
I was girl scout a long time ago, so I am not sure if this is something you can still do, but we offered to weed our elderly neighbors' gardens and landscaping. We offered the service for $1.00 an hour. I am sure with today's economy you could ask for a little more.
They could offer chaperoned dog walking services and it fits in with what they are trying to buy the gift card for.
I don't if BSA would allow either these now, so bear with me :-)

Suggestions or ideas for activities or outings for elderly residents?

Dream to b

Hi I work in aged care, have been here for 10 years, I am very interested in introducing some new activities for our residents, we have the usual: bingo, trips to the park and local shopping centre, concerts, sing-a-longs, kiosk/shop open 3x a week, craft, knitting, quizes and ball games but I am looking for more interesting ideas.

If you have any that would be great!

P.s. We are locared near Sydney Aus.

Answer
1. Mix about 200 small safety pins in an ice cream bucket along with dry oatmeal. Blindfold a person and time the person for say 10 minutes and let them see how many pins they can find in the dry oatmeal. Let everyone have a turn (blindfolded) and the one that finds the most wins a prize.

2. Take different photographs. Tear each of them into pieces. Organize the senior citizens into teams and hand over the torn pieces of a single photograph to each team. The team that first puts together the photograph wins the prize.

3.Auction. Pick up some inexpensive items from your local grocery store. Good choices would be toiletries, kitchen items, personal care products and home decorations. These items should be gift wrapped as mystery prizes. You will also require some fake money, which is equally distributed along each participant. The auctioneer will pick up a single prize at a time. The bidding then begins.

4. Hire a music band and have a dance. Encourage senior citizens with limited mobility to dance in their chairs or keep the beat to the music.

5. Organize a fashion show. Senior citizens who are unable to walk the ramp could be rolled out in wheelchairs.

6. Senior Fishing Day. Everyone is supposed to get his own fishing pole and bait along. It will help the seniors relax as well as keep themselves occupied. There should be prizes for the maximum fish caught and the biggest catch.

7. Organize a yoga class. This is especially beneficial to senior citizens. Each person should only do that yoga exercise with which he/she is comfortable. However, this activity needs care and caution.

8. Organize a one-mile walk. This is something which is within the capability of most senior citizens.

9. Mental exercises like solving puzzles and doing mathematical calculations mentally, without using a paper and pencil could be undertaken. This might delay the onset of serious old age diseases like Alzheimer’s or delay the progress of the disease in people already afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease.

10. Have every senior citizen bring a photo of themselves when they were babies or teenagers. The game is to guess whose photo it is. There would be attractive prizes for the winners.

11. Monthly birthday parties could be organized. Everybody would bring inexpensive gifts for the birthday boy/birthday girl.

12. Have a quiz regarding movies, songs, TV shows, actors and other categories that the seniors will be familiar with or are enthusiastic about.

13. Playing Favorites. We guess each person’s favorite choices like favorite sport, favorite food, favorite dress and so on. And of course there should be prizes for the winners.

14. Sculpting for seniors. You could use the soft clay products, which are made for children. There should be a prize for quickest sculpture created and best looking sculpture. This activity would also help in strengthening the senior’s hands. dexterity and muscle control.

15. Holiday Trip. A trip to a scenic spot could be organized. Nature is one of the most effective healers of the mind.

16. Hold a flower decoration competition. Supply the flowers, vases and scissors. You are allowed to take your handmade creation home.

17. Supply the seniors with cameras. Each one can take pictures of their favorite items and display them to others as a slide show.

18. Pick up the right recipe. Place your favorite recipe among a few other recipes and ask the seniors to guess it.

19. Health Tips. Each senior can talk for a few minutes offering personal advice on health-related issues.

20. Make up a list of questions that can be answered with only yes or no. Make a circle with chairs, enough for each senior citizen to play. Ask a question and if a person can answer yes to a question, they should move to the seat on the right. The person sitting in that seat may not be able to answer yes to that particular question and will still be sitting there. So they sit on their lap. Sometimes we have 3-4 people sitting on one chair and a lot of merriment. This is a lot of fun and questions are easy like, 'Do you have on black shoes?' or 'Do you have blue eyes?' or 'Do you own a cat?' and so on. Again a word of caution is suggested as some physical activity is involved.

I need help on gift ideas, and unique decorating, etc. It's my mom's birthday and we have rented a room at a resturant. What do you thonk of pictures of my mom during different satges - little girl, teen, wedding, etc? Thanks for all answers.

Answer
a picture board is a great idea- I did one for my moms 60th party and she had a great time showing off her pics to everyone! Go get one of those tri-fold display boards and put tons of pics of her throughout the years on it- or you can make a slide show and play it on someones laptop computer- whichever works better for you. For decorating I just used my moms favorite colors- pink, purple, and silver accents- we had fake flower petals scattered down the center of the tables and a set of pretty candles next to a vase of lillies. I also found small travel candles for 50 cents and had one of those at each table setting as a party favor for the guests. We had balloon arrangements all over the room and hung streamers and some birthday banners too. I had also found on Ebay a book all about the year she was born and we had that on the picture table so people could look through that also and I found a Life magazine from th week she was born on there too (I gave that as a gift to her and she loved it).
so as far as decorations- go with something that you think she would like, maybe vases of her favorite flowers all over, or make it a theme relating to her favorite hobby and decorate along those lines (gardening, bingo, quilting- whatever!) This is a good time also to get some family pictures taken so make sure to gather up the whole group before people start to leave to get some good family shots.

What do you get a grandmother who is just turning 80 for her birthday?

My grandmother and I are not very close, however in a few weeks is her 80th birthday and there will be a surprise party. I am really unsure what to get her as a gift. I know I can do the normal gift cards to eateries but, I would like to get her something unique. Any ideas?

Answer
Get her a family picture that has been professionally framed. She wants something from the heart.

What would be some book recommendations for a guy friend?

It's my best friends birthday and I need gift ideas. He's a guy so it's a bit more difficult. I was thinking a book but I need some ideas. He likes some books of Chuck Plahniuk, He recently finished Percy Jackson as well as Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore. I need some ideas.

Answer
If he's into Palahniuk, he might like Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut's best books, in my opinion are these ones:

Slaughterhouse-Five
Cat's Cradle
God Bless You Mr. Rosewater
Mother Night

The first and last are somewhat grim, but the middle two are somewhat comic in their own ways.

Others that he may like:
Thank You for Smoking (and all of Christopher Buckley's books, honestly)
Darkly Dreaming Dexter (HBO has a TV show based on the character, but the books are good)
Water for Elephants

Can a wireless adapter be built from scratch without software?

slayerquie

I'm running an experiment with a friend of mine involving long range communication, and I got the idea that perhaps as part of the process I should try to build my own wireless adapter. Mainly because I've been enjoying the hell out of scratch-making whizbangs and blinky things lately (thanks to Arduino of course, best-birthday-gift-EVER). Is there an easy way to just "brute force" it mechanically, as it were, or would it require a lot of custom programming as well? Normally I'd just buy a cheap adapter and take it apart to see how it works, but most of the project is running on junk, and I'm barely going to have enough for the remaining tools and supplies our junk pile doesn't cover, so that's not really in the cards. I'm certainly not a tech genius, but I know enough to make use of most schematics fairly easily. If any simple schematics exist, or anyone can give me even a "verbal" rundown of what would be necessary to hand make a wireless radio, I'd be most appreciative of the help. By the way, it doesn't have to be optimized by any means. At the moment, I've got a small bit of leeway with resistors, wire, and whatnot, so it's really just to get hands-on experience with the fundamental working order of the device on the construction level, as that particular field is sorely lacking in information compared to how much is posted online about signal propagation, etc. I just need a basic, garage-project rundown of what bone's connected to the wireless bone as it were to get me started. If it would end up costing more to build and program one than just to buy one, just say so, but if anyone can get me started, I really enjoy hands-on projects, and I've been learning quite a bit recently. I'd like to keep the roll going if there are any hidden geniuses among you. Schematics are preferred, if possible. Patented products will NOT be duplicated, only studied if that's what it takes. I'll accept ANY help.

P.S. Proof-reading this, I suddenly realize how the post sounds, so let me say it up front - no, I'm not planning on using it to steal wifi XD

I've got high-speed of my own. I just like playing with power tools and building stuff, even if it breaks on me later. No feeling quite like looking at a functioning, engineered object of one sort or another, and being able to say YOU made it. Some of you will understand that better than others.

Answer
No. There has to be a software user interface and firmware to tell the hardware what to do and when to do it.

There's nothing to prevent you from designing and assembling your own hardware but at some point you'll have to import existing software or design it yourself, and as firmware is far more fundamental to the hardware profile you'll have to design that from scratch. Not at all easy even for the companies which do it all the time, as evidenced by the regular software & firmware patches they have to release even on completed consumer-release versions of the hardware.

best christmas gifts kids 2011 image

A

I already have one that I won. It has the name brand ta ta tent on the tag. I would like to buy one for my friend, but where? I live in Canada.

Answer
Go here: https://www.uddercovers.com/cart At the end, enter promo code "christmas" and get the cover for free & pay $11.95 shipping. I ordered mine there & have since ordered as gifts. The promo codes come out periodically & are emailed to you.

I know this is not a nursing cover - but I got this email from the same place I get the udder cover emails. This time they offer a free car seat cover (just pay shipping). Again, just enter promo code "Christmas". Shipping is $12.95 for cover or $13.95 for whole set.
https://www.carseatcanopy.com/cart Or you can get a "whole caboodle" set for $29.95.

Hope that helps someone. I really do like the size of the nursing covers. My kids seem to fight using a cover, but they were awesome too on the stroller to block the sun because you can tie them on & in a pinch they can be a bib as well - big, but they work. LOL

******

OMG Karen shut your trap for real. If it is a nursing related question - you ought to just skip it. You do not know crap about proper nursing advice & you feel free to spew about it. Nursing covers are nice because they have a wire form up top so momma can see the baby the whole time & not have the babies face actually draped in fabric where it rebreathes it's own carbon dioxide. A throw won't do that. Then the whole pull a boob out for everyone to see is not a movement. In fact - cover your breasts they are gross & sexual has been the only movement & it came in about 1940 or so & has grown ever since. If you knew what you were talking about (ever) you would KNOW that. My gram (90 yrs old) will gladly tell you how women unbuttoned blouses & sat with MEN & nursed openly when she was young. It is only today they WE are perves & think that it's weird. You can look through the Library of Congress photo archives & find LOTS of pics from the 40's & earlier of women openly nursing all over the place. We used to be grown ups about it & understand babies had needs. Then formula companies got a hold on health "professionals" like you & bought your opinion & paid you to disperse it through the populous. They also became the big "educators" about breastfeeding (ironic eh?) It IS all well documented what they did - there are even interoffice memos that have been revealed - THEY instituted separating babies from mommas & putting them in nurseries to discourage nursing, etc, etc. before that time babies AWLSY roomed with moms. That isnt' "new" that is returning to what we did BEFORE formula companies got the bright idea they could force feed their products to babies through the loving hands of nurses, often without mom's permission. They paid for those wings to be ADDED to hospitals to facilitate NURSES bottle feeding & promoting their products to moms. Read "The Politics of Breastfeeding" - it has a ton of citations to document these things are fact & shows a lot of what has really happened in our culture & the sad view we grew to have about nursing. THEN nursing became something you only did because you couldn't afford formula - so it was embarrassing to nurse & THAT is when public nursing became taboo & looked down on, not because eo boobs - because you were dirty & poor. You ought to be embarrassed to say what you do & then claim to be an RN. I hope you are a troll & real RN's aren't actually like that in 2011.

Well, you said that she was your student. Why don't you give her something that you would have wanted when you were in her position?
