christmas gift ideas?

Jennifer

i didnt want to spend too much money this year of gifts for family and friends. i need some craft ideas i can make for them. something that will show them i actually put some thought into making the craft.

Answer
1. use an old picture frame and some cross plastic sheet to make an earing holder. Decorate and glue ribbon on the back so you can hang it up.
2. make a matching scarf and hat out of good ol fashioned yarn! you can google instructions to do so.
3. for grandma? small canned jams with some ribbon tied on top is a delight.
4.if you can sew at all the easiest thing to make is a pillow. and to add a personal touch, before you sew the two parts together(even if your not sure how go google) emborder or cross stich their name or a cute saying.
5. make them thier own stationary! go to the $ store and buy some cheep stickers and paper. decorate and walla!
6.if it is a kid you could get some plastic toobing and make marshmellow guns! givem a bag of colored marshmellows on top and you've got yourself a great gift.
7.macrame. make a braclet and put some beads on. walla!
8.use an empty can (like a can that used to have soup or whatever in it) and make a pencil holder. decorate with stickers, markers, and paper for dad or the worken kind of guy.
9. if you know how you could make a matching jewlery set. just buy some bead and string your sis a matching braclet, necklace, and earings!
10.hey! and if all fails go through your room and give a loved one something personal of your like an old teddy bear of even some cute clothes or old barbie dolls for lil sis!!!

Hope I helped, and have a great holiday! Good lUck!!

gifts for kids?

Sara

I have been student teaching for the past semester and I will be finishing (and graduating!) in a couple of weeks. I'd like to give a little good-bye gift to my students to let them know how much I appreciated their hard work. They are really my first class, so they have been special to me. I don't have a lot of money (I don't get paid to student teach) to spend gifts. I was thinking of maybe a cake for the whole class or something. I'd like to keep it under $15....any ideas?

Answer
A cake is a great idea, but I would recommend cupcakes.

I'm not sure of the ages of the kids, but the time and mess of cutting a cake, then they want this piece or that piece - cupcakes elimiate all of that!

I like the bookmark idea. Kids also love getting awards - at the end of the year my team always gave funny awards to each kid "best ....". It shows that you pay attention to who they are. You could do "My favorite..." and create a special thing for each child. You could easily print those out on a computer.

www.orientaltrading.com also has a TON of cheap stuff, and quite an extensive teaching catalog.

good luck

Gift ideas for a 50yr old woman?

Anonymous

My aunt is turning 50 this weekend and I am not that close to her (I don't know much about her hobbies/likes) - I don't want to spend too much money (between 30-40 dollars) and I don't want to get her a gift certificate (I think that's too impersonal) - any ideas?

Answer
A gift basket with assorted 'goodies.'
Start with something from Bath and Body Works- maybe some shower gel or bubble bath. Or, select some of the 'extras' they have like hand sanitizers (they come in different scents), go for some sweets like chocolates, maybe some microwave popcorn, or a bottle of wine. Call it a pampering basket!

Gift ideas for my mom?

E. E

On Mother's Day, I made this big slideshow with pictures of our family and a little biography on her, and she said it was the best gift anyone has ever given her. I'm trying to top it on her birthday. I decided to make her a basket with 52 things in it (she's turning 52). She's very family oriented, she's very religious, she has a good sense of humor, and she loves hand-made things. I need some ideas on what to give her. I barely have any money, so I would need to make practically everything. Please help
I've already done the photo album/biography thing. I still plan on doing a picture frame, but I need some other ideas.
I don't want any picture ideas. No scrapbooks, no photos, no picture frames. I want different ideas

Answer
You can get one of those collage picture frames, the ones that are big with many openings. Some have different sized openings and some are the same sized openings. You can get them in Kohls, Walmart, Michael's, etc. Anyway, you can get one of those frames and put pictures of her and you, and her family in it, through the years, but leave 2 of the openings blank, one to write Happy Birthday and the date, and the other to take a family picture together on the day of her birthday so she has an updated picture, a most recent one, and one the picture is printed out, you can add it to the frame. She can hang it on the wall and it's like a scrapbook for the wall. She will love it. It can hold pictures of her and her family throughout the years, pick her favorite pictures, or the pictures you think she would like the best. The frames are inexpensive too!

You can also make her a scrapbook. These days you can make them in just about any size, 12x12, 8 and half by 11, 8x8, 6x6 and even 4x4, you can put a picture on one side and the journaling and embellishments on the other for the smaller albums and the smaller albums only take a few hours to do. The smaller albums, like the 4x4, she can even carry with her! You can even get those small ones that hold wallet sized photos and if she has grandchildren, make her a grandchildren's album with the picture on one side and the embellishement on the other.

You can also make her a picture frame, if you go to the crafts store they have the frames that you decorate. You can get one of those, decorate it with paint, stickers, glitter, etc, and put a picture in there of you and her together.

They also have picture frames for scrapbook layouts. They are 12x12 frames, they are wood, so you can even decorate the frame, and what you do is make the 12x12 scrapbook layout and then frame it in the frame and hang it up! You can get them at Michael's and AC Moore, where they have the regular frames and right in the middle of the glass of the frame it will say scrapbook frame. Then you can go to the scrapbook dept. and get the paper and supplies, make a layout and put it in the frame and decorate the frame or leave it the way it is, and give it to her that way.

Michael's and AC Moore, and possibly JoAnn's also sell a line called Bare Elements and they are boxes, like jewelry boxes, albums, etc they are white and you can decorate them and make them for gifts.

I hope some of these ideas help and that your mother has a very Happy Birthday!

Gift Ideas For My Mom?

Eric

I am having a very hard time deciding what to get my mom for Christmas. I have considered multiple things but none of them seem right. I would get her a spa basket but she does not like to take baths. I would get her an iPod but she just got one in the mail. I would get her a book but all she wants to read about is autism because of my recently diagnosed brother. I would get her a Yankee candle but i did that last year. I would get her a DVD box set but we have Netflix. Make up and jewelry are no even options because she manages a designer line at Bloomingdale and is able to get items at discounted prices there all the time. I am 14 years old an I have no idea what to get my mom for Christmas !

Answer
I made my bestfriend a gift basket. I got a zebra basket about 1 1/2 L x 1 W (in feet). I filled it with her favorite products. Like her favorite body wash, chapstick, hair styling product, lotion, body bars, face wash, candles.. like cute stuff. I also put her favorite snacks, takis and hot cheetos, sprite, skittles, little debbies. If you have the money, you can get a basket at garden ridge (there's plenty to choose from) mine was only $7. You can get all your products at target or walmart. My total was about $50 but I was willing to spend more. :) I also made my mom one. If you gave the money it's a nice, personable gift to get the special girls in your life. :)) since your mom cab Get make up easily and doesn't like baths (?) Fill it with other things she likes. Like her favorites. :)

I need help with a gift idea for my Father in Law - boat or fishing theme?

Hot Lips 4

We got him tickets to a Titanic Museum close to their city, and since he loves fishing, I'd like to use the rest of the budgeted money (only like $20 left) to get him something fishing related? Or do you have any other ideas about something that would fit with the "Big Boat" "Fishing" theme?

Answer
No problem there are lots of handy fishing items on line that you can buy with that much first i suggest you look a bass pro gift ideas
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=712&template=fishing.cfm&cm_sp=GiftGuide-_-PB_11_26_07-_-fishing
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0005586&type=pod&navAction=jump&cm_re=home112707*left*gift_cards/certificates
Or a gift card from bass pro is good, its easy to buy online from bass pro but for equipment i prefer cabelas, also try some kind of clothing item as that will work for all aspects of fishing since you dont state what he prefers
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat110002&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20166&parentType=category&parentId=cat20166
try polarized sunglasses
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat130009&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20166&parentType=category&parentId=cat20166
The other gift sounds great so a small item to finish it off will work well. For gift cards try here

Teacher retirement gifts!?!?

My 9th grade gym/health teacher is retiring and my class is throwing him a party in 2 days. I have absolutely no idea of what to get the man, and it's my job to get him a gift. Something that is less than $20 and something that I can get in a hurry. All answers/help is greatly appreciated :). Thanks ahead of time.

Answer
Get him a gift card somewhere to enjoy his retirement... Is he a golfer? Buy something golf-related. Does he enjoy one sport over another? Buy a baseball hat, maybe? How about a big coffee mug or a hat that says, "RETIRED AND LOVING IT!" Or, some kind of "retired" t-shirt... I don't know what kinds of stores you have in your area, but Spencer's sometimes has some (but they're often questionable). Novelty stores... Factory Card Outlet (if you have one) sometimes have shirts. Most gift stores and specialty boutiques will have something like that.

Teachers love their students, and if your class loves him enough to throw him a party, then he is definitely valued. It is a reciprocating relationship, and whatever you get him will show him that your class cherishes him and thanks him for the years he put in on your education.

Even if you got a less-than-stellar gift, if you put good thought into it, he's going to thank you and be honored.

I bought an action figure that looked like a teacher once. We pooled money together to buy it because we loved him...

What are approprate Retirement gift ideas??

Q.

Answer
How about a personalized gift like a personalized plaque. They have them at Personal Creations. There is also a $10 off coupon for them at http://www.discount-codes.net/Gifts---Flowers/PersonalCreations-com-Discount-Codes/index.html

Mother-in-law christmas gift ideas?

Q. My MIL has everything she needs, and I wanted to get her a digital camera for christmas but her daughter said she wouldn't use it. I want to get her something that is nice and that hopefully she will like, My budget is around $100 for her. If you guys have any ideas please share them with me.

Answer
brandy, first of all please don't do gift certificates, or gift cards. to my way of thinking they just scream out "i couldn't be bothered trying -so here go buy something". of course thats just my thought. but here is what my d.i.l.'s have come up with.
my first daughter in law was apparently in the same boat, so she decided to buy me a charm bracelet, not those new-fangled things that are flat, but a proper charm bracelet, and then for special occasions she finds new charms to give me. in fact when they wanted to announce they were expecting their first child, they bought me a baby bootie charm for my bracelet!
my second daughter-in-law started me on ornaments. these are 'willow' ornaments, and every christmas i receive a new piece.
my third daughter-in-law was at a total loss until one day she overheard me saying i had never had a pedicure or manicure. now, every christmas and birthday i get sent off for both!
so think along the lines of my beautiful d.i.l.'s......and find something you can add to as time goes on.
good luck!

Gift ideas for in-laws?

With Christmas coming up I am planning out my shopping lists as I do every year. This year however I am having an extremely hard time with gift ideas for my Boyfriends family. We have been dating for over 5 years, and every year its the same thing.... They total dislike everything we get for them and every year I am sure that they return it all. The things they can't return they re-gift or throw in a closet!
This year I do not want to waste my time energy and money on such ungrateful people. But I have to have something for them. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
Here's a mother's wedding gift article. There are ideas in there that would be great. http://www.weddingclipart.com/guide/wedding-gifts/mother-of-the-bride-wedding-gift.html

As far as the ingratitude...I know, I know. I have a family member like this. Can NOT be pleased. You know what? I give something each year anyway. They're always perfectly nice gifts and somewhere along the line, somebody in the family will probably use them. You have a big heart. You want to give. That's all that matters...IMO.

anniversary gift ideas for the ladies...?

Ok ladies...i have a question now....and im serious too! Would you be mad if your boyfriend, husband, etc. bought you a gift card instead of something thoughtful that he made, etc.?? or is a gift card ok? and what about lingerie? do women like lingerie as a anniversary gift? and what do you think about a fish? like a Betta tank with a pretty betta fish? please help me out! ladies especially!

Answer
Hi,

Well, we women do like it when our men put in some effort to get us something special! A gift card does seem like a lazy way out.

Lingerie is great as an anniversary gift if: 1) you give it to her on her 2nd wedding anniversary (cotton is the traditional gift) or 2) the 8th anniversary (lace and linen are the modern gift alternatives). But, you do need to know her really well to give her a lingerie gift as women tend to be rather particular about their intimate apparel.

A pretty fish tank sounds lovely. Go for it!

Help on bridal gifts please!!!?

Kris2005

My family and i live in the US, but i fell in love with an Australian man. We are getting married in Australia and plan on living in Australia. What type of wedding and shower gifts can my US family and friends get me that will be easy to take to, use, and have in Australia? I have learned that while both US and Australia have Targets the gift cards aren't valid at both stores. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Cash
Visa or Mastercard gift cards
If his family is in Australia, ask then to get you web sites of stores where you will be living. Then you family and friends can buy you gifts online and have them delivered to your new house. You could even "register" at a couple of stores down there and they could buy off your registry. You will just need a address for them to be send to.
Hope that helps....
Good Luck

Gift ideas for a man turning 50. He's very youthful and active!?

Help! I have a friend who's birthday is July 4th. A close, but new friend, you know?
I've known him allmost a year. We went on a few dates, but aren't really dating. He's interested and I want to just be friends. We hang out with mutual friends a lot.

So, I need your help! Nothing too personal, but more than a generic cologne, gift card or such. He has everything related to his varied interests.
Nice wine seems impersonal and we drink that often, so it doesn't seem unique.
I would love to think of something really unusual and different.

He loves music but has any cd you can think of. He loves travel and especially Australia where he lived a while. He has tons of things from there; books, clothing, etc. I can't think of something related to there though that would be great.

He's not wealthy, but loves culture; art, music, books. He's a good photographer, but has all that stuff. Very smart, very funny. I'd like to buy but also make a little something. Help!!

Answer
Book concert tickets or show tickets. On that night, buy all his drinks for him, treat him. People love shows. He may not end up with a gift in hand at the end of the night, but he will enjoy himself and remember that more I bet. People always remember how you made them feel.

Home made christmas gift for 4 year old little sis?

Q. I love my lil sis, and i want to make a great gift for her, and my cuz, parents, and brother.
I want something easy and special.
My sister loves ponies and sweets, and my brother and cousin just got ipods, my parents love music, if that helps.
Thank you and happy holidays!

Answer
You are a very generous person - what a lucky family you have! For your little sister, there are some wonderful My little Pony toys available - or a giant sized My Little Pony soft toy (like the one the little girl has on the Transformers movie) - they are about $40.

If you want to make something - do this - my daughter made this and it looks so amazing. At your local store buy a square shaped blank canvas (craft stores have them) and a wooden "easel" stand. Paint around the edges of the canvas in her favorite color. Glue a big square of patterned paper (Barbie, My Little Pony, Disney Tinkerbell or whatever she loves) onto the front of the canvas. You can buy this at a scrapbook store or your local craft store. Buy at the same store a wooden letter that is the first letter of her name. Paint it to match the paint around the edge of the canvas. Glue it on with craft glue onto the canvas. glue on a heap of pretty paper flowers (craft shop/scrapbook shop). Glue on a photo of her with you. Use a product called "Kindy Glitz - Crystalina" (like a liquid glitter glue) to decorate around the letter of her name, on the paper kindy-glitz around the design/ponies/whatever and kindy-glitz around the edge of the photo. it looks so beautiful and she will love it. You can glue everything together with double sided craft tape - they sell that at the scrapbook shops too - if you ask the people in the shop they will help you get all you need!!

1. canvas
2. photo
3. cardstock
4. patterned paper
5. disney stickers / flowers / etc.
6. kindy glitz crystalina
7. double sided tape
8. stand for it to sit on

If this sounds too hard (it is Christmas very very soon!!) get her the giant pony and tuck a beautiful little girl hand-bag in with the pony and fill the bag with sweets she likes.

For your brother and cousing - games for their playstation/xbox are always popular - or you can get i-tune gift cards so they can download songs they like.

For Mum and Dad - why not get an autographed album cover or framed autograph of one of their favorite musicians? Of perhaps a pile of the latests cd's presented in a big basket with delicious treats and home made cookies. Perhaps if they like classical music or italian stuff - you could make an italian appreciation basket - add a Pavarotti cd, some pasta, italian panna cakes, italian biscuits, a beautiful italian calender for 2008. you can do that with any type of music - just relate it to something.

you could even do that for your little sister - buy her the "My little Ponies" or the disney Princess calendar - there is an absolutely gorgeous Disney Princess Pop Up Calendar this year - put that in a big huge white basket for her - add some of the cute Disney Princess lego/megablocks - add heaps of her favorite sweets - add a Disney Princess color book and Disney Princess markers/crayons. Maybe pop in a pretty scarf or pretty gloves or hair accessories for her - make it all match in pinks and purples. Then wrap the basked in a big piece of clear cello wrap. Bunch it up at the top and tie with a huge big pink and purple bow. She will love this so much!

need ideas for a 12-13 year old christmas gifts! many ideas please!?

Q. I have no idea what hes into, a price range of 0-250 total! I need multiple gift ideas, thank you so much for helping!

Answer
Is he into gaming? If so, Halo 4, Assassins Creed 3, and Black Ops 2 recently came out. ($60 Each) make sure they are on whichever console he has.

Does he have an iPhone, iPod or an iPad? If so you can never go wrong with a gift card or maybe a case with something cool on it. (price varies.)

Does he have a Kindle Fire? If so, maybe a case or an Amazon gift card.

Does he like NFL? Maybe a jersey of his favorite team/ favorite player (which you can ask his parents about)

Is he really into books? If so how about a kindle fire? Or just an average kindle or nook? With a giftcard.

Does he like movies? If so how about some of his favorite movies? Or if he has an xbox,iPod,ipad, iphone, playstation 3, or a wii and an internet connection how about a year long Netflix subscription? Its $8 a month.

This one may sound lame- but socks and hoodies. I personally love hoodies find his favorite brand. Northface? Under Armour? Nike? And with socks- everyone loves socks man i wish that my holiday season consisted of more socks. Get his favorite color, a design that he might like. If he's athletic than Nike Elite socks are great, so are under armour.

Does he like music but not have an iPod? If so then you can buy an ipod nano for a reasonable sum online and pick up a giftcard. Or maybe you can go the extra expensive mile and get him an ipod touch.

Headphones are a necessity for teenagers. Skullcandy and Beats are the most popular, but They break rather easily. I like Sennheisers and SOLs.

All else fails buy him a wallet and put some cash/ giftcards in it.

Hope I helped.

gift ideas for my boyfriend?!?!? PLZ HELP?

Chloe S

so for my birthday, my boyfriend got me a teddy bear and i love it bevause everytime i see it i think of him. so i told him this and of course he was happy that it made me think of him. but then i was like "wait i havent gotten you anything to remind oyu of me!" and so i was like, "i'm gonna get you something....."

but idk wat to get him.... we've been dating for 6 months and we're both sixteen if that helps....

any suggestions!?!?

also idk when to give it to him, cuz his birthday isn't until january and christmas is kinda far away, so when do you think?

Answer
Here are a few ideas of gifts that you can give your boyfriend

1. Designer clothes

If your boyfriend has a penchant for wearing designer clothes, then take him to a designer boutique and allow him to sail in a self-indulgence trip. Few stores even offer handy tips to their patrons, like advice on colors that suit their personality/complexion, tips on color co-ordination etc. Buying designer clothes for your boyfriend is definitely an expensive idea but since it's not going to be a regular indulgence, you should have no regrets on loosening your purse strings!

Recommended Merchant:

Overstock.com is an excellent merchant to buy gifts at a low price for your boyfriend. They have a special gift finder section where you can choose the occasion and the person you're buying a gift for, pick the interests of the person and get a whole list of gifts which you can buy, beginning from as little as $15. They also regularly offer free shipping deals and have a very good reputation as an online retailer.

2. Pamper his senses

If your boyfriend is overstressed or ignoring his health then enroll him into a fitness program or take him to a spa for a complete body treatment. This may not only rejuvenate his tired muscles but may do wonders to his senses too..

3. Magazine subscriptions

If you have a book lover for a boyfriend, gift him a yearly subscription of his favorite magazine. If fiction or non-fiction books appeal to him, then gift him a first edition book of his favorite author.

4. Gadgets galore

It's a widespread belief that men love to possess the latest gadgets that hit the market. Every electronics store is flooded with the latest gadgets from sleek mobiles and laptop, to an I-pod or a PDA. Boys experience a deep sense of pride when they become owners of a latest cell phone or any electronic gadget, for that matter.

5. Makeover

Many magazines and tabloids invite readers to send their photographs and profile for a free makeover. Send your boyfriend's pictures to any such magazine citing catchy reasons as to why he needs an image makeover. If selected, his 'before' and 'after' photos published in the magazine will make him popular and at the same time, he gets a total change in image for free! Be careful though! You might have to deal with other girls hitting on him thereafter!

6. Pets

Just leave a cute puppy or kitten at his doorstep with a guide book on how to take care of pets. Try giving a pet to your boyfriend, you may be surprised to see the happiness and glow on his face.

7. Romantic Poetry

If words flow out of your mouth in the form of verse, then pen a poem for him. Expressing your true feelings for your boyfriend in the form of a poem is one of the most romantic and cost-effective ideas of a suitable gift for your beau.

8. Personalized gifts

Give him a personalized gift. it could be a t-shirt or a coffee mug or a flask or anything else you can think of. CafePress has millions of items you can buy, personalized. You can get a t-shirt with any quote you want, see a preview online and order it, for as little as $15 or you can upload your own art work to be printed on any product you pick.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graduation gifts/ideas for my boyfriend?

Mikkk <3

We're both graduating from HS, and I'd like to get/make him something or do something for him that's memorable and shows how much I appreciate him.

His interests:
-basketball
-reading
-history

He's going to college for either economics or to be a lawyer.

I was thinking about either getting him stock and framing it or buying him a wallet full of gift cards. Any ideas are very much appreciated! Thank you :)

Answer
The gift card idea is a cool idea.

You could also find him a piece of autographed sports memorabilia from his favorite player or team.

Cute Simple Ideas for Baby Gift Box/Basket..?

Q. Alright so my sister in law is pregnant with her first child..yay for her! :).. and has finally put her registry up.
I have already figured out what my husband and I will buy her, but I want to make her sort of like a gift basket/box.
Now I have some ideas in my head and from online, of course, but I wanted to know what sort of things others do.
Do you neatly put them in a decorated box or basket, and if so how do you decorate it & arrange everything.
I've never made an actual gift basket, I've always bought a thing or two and put it in a pretty gift bag.
This time I'm wanting to do a gift basket or box so I can stuff more in there.
Ideas are appreciated and websites/pix of boxes/baskets/ideas would be awesome too :)
Thanks so much!

Answer
I recommed you to browse this website where they give you ideas of what to put in a homemade baby gift basket and also give you tips and tricks how to make it and how to arrange everything.
It is always nice to go with a special theme, so if your sister in law has some favourite character such as 'Helly Kitty' or if she likes cats or ducks or owls (I think you get the idea) you could center your gift basket around this theme.
Use lots of ribbons to decorate and maybe also personalize the gift basket with wooden letters or simply add a door plate with baby's name. Choose a basket your sister in law can use later on to stack the diapers or take a Bumboo baby sitter and fill this up.
It's all explained in details and with photos here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/newborn-baby-gift-baskets.html

Oh, and if you feel comfortable to babysit, do not forget to add a babysitting coupon (booklet). This is the best gift ever (I am a mom of 3 and know what it means if you have a few minutes on your own when stressed out...).

Good luck, hope my tips helped.

Graduation gift ideas?

OperaGhost

Two of my friends are graduating this year and I wanted to give them a gift.

One is going to a Christian college this fall to study film making. He really likes sound design, movies, music (he plays the drums) and technical theatre.

For the other I need something that could work for an old west theme (we have an inside joke that involves running around, pointing our fingers and yelling "BANG").

Ideas?

Answer
for the friend into the western thing a box of dueling pistols would be great that way you can each keep one of the set, I dont mean go buy real guns, you can get replicas or toy versions without paying $500+

Graduation gift. Any ideas ?

Q. Hi guys,
My girlfriend invited me to go with her to a dinner for her friend's graduation. She just finished school and honestly I have never seen. So that will be basicly the first time I meet her and it would be great to give her a little something. I don't want something too expensive and I don't want it to be too cheap.
Something small in value and sweet would be great (still any ideas are welcomed). I was thinking about a little premium box of chocolate but with everybody going crazy these days with "less calories" I don't know !

Answer
Yes, I would still say chocolates is "in" especially for valentine's day and big events like graduation. Or you can give her some flowers as that is the norm for graduation amongst friends.

I can't afford xmas gifts for everyone?

perlanga20

Hi Everybody,

I need some advice on giving gifts. Iâm a young single woman who ideally around Christmas loves giving gifts for the kids in my extended family (mostly younger cousins). I have always gotten all the little ones gifts ever since I got a good job a few years ago, and I never expect anything in return.
This year I have decided to spend my extra income on surgery to fix a hernia I sustained as a child. Since it causes me no pain my insurance wonât cover to repair the muscle and I have to dish out thousands to fix it.
I have to budget to fix this and I think itâs well worth it but that means Iâll have to cut corners in a few areas including around xmas. Iâve decided that Iâm only giving to my immediate family (mom, dad, two brothers, and my only nephew) and my three godchildren. So that means Iâm leaving out many kids, we have a close knit circle of family and friends. I think most people will be understanding of the situation, but how do handle the question of âso and so got a gift but my son didnât if it comes upâ? Or do I let the kids parents know up front âIâm on a budget this year and couldnât get gifts for everybodyâ, âIâm having surgery and need to budgetâ? I donât feel like I should have to explain myself, but I will to avoid hurt feeling amongst the kids. What do you guys suggest?

Answer
Of course you do not have to explain yourself, but as you said, you are a close-knit family so really it is up to you. I'm sure they would understand.

In terms of your Christmas situation, there are some things that you can do.
Some would suggest to make gifts, but that can be equally as expensive (sometimes more) when you add up all of the supplies.
Here is a site link for DIY gifts under $5, if you are willing to: http://www.the36thavenue.com/2011/11/25-handmade-gifts-under-5.html
I think for kids the best ones would be the Hot Chocolate Art, Santa Party Mix, Bird Nest Necklaces, Bread in a Bottle (you can also google other recipe-in-a-jar ideas), Tea Cup Lights, Bookmarks, Baking Kit, and the Wrap It paper cones that are filled with candy.

Even if your budget is really tight, you could always opt for buying a box of candy canes to give to the kids so that at least it is something, and you don't feel bad and the kids are happy :)
You can also ask around and see if anyone wants to combine gifts so that you pay for half and they pay for half.

How long would you stay (married women please)?

Q. I left my husband after 2 years of progressively worsening verbal and financial abuse. Alcoholism is what made him this way. After leaving ( I was going to divorce him, this wasn't just a separation for me) we talked and he said he would do anything to keep our relationship. since we are married, I told him what I would need or what, and to be honest for the last 2 months, he has done everything I have asked of him and more.

Even though he is doing all I ask, I am just not into him anymore. After being treated so poorly, I guess I put a wall around my heart. I really don't care if the marriage ends or not and I am kind of just here because of obligation. I love him, but I am no longer in love with him.

I am willing to stay in this relationship to see if I can get my old feelings back. If he continues to do the things he has been doing, its possible, however, I have been thinking about everything and to be honest, even if he does everything forever, I still kind of don't wan him anymore (but of course this is how I feel now)

I decided that if by December 2011 I still am not back in love and have no desire to stay in this relationship that i will ask for a divorce. do you think thats enough time? Would you wait longer? Shorter? Need some feedback.

Answer
Woman to woman let me tell you "You have a gift" in your marriage. Do you have any idea how many men could care less about mending their marriages? He obviously has gone above and beyond as you clearly stated. So, now... Now that he has you need to remember the grass is not always greener on the other side.

You owe it to yourself YES yourself to give it another try. And you also need not put a time frame on it, "because that wont work either". If you cannot do it from your heart and it be your WHOLE heart then do him and you both a favor and don't.

I am simply telling you though think before you quit on him and your marriage.

christmas presents for men?

Q. Me and my boyfriend are getting gifts not only for eachother, but for eachother's parents, too. I know an idea of what I want to get his mom, i was gonna get her some crafty stuff cause she's been into crocheting and yarn work but idk what to get cause she has loads of yarn already..so any ideas on that? and what should i get his dad? and ideas for him to get my mom? Nothing pricy, but just cute simple things like under 20$ that we could do? :)

Answer
For "Mom" - I would not buy yarn. Instead, get her a gift certificate where she buys her knitting supplies, and present it with a "Cookie Mix in a Jar" that you put together - like these.

http://gingerbreadblog.com/2010/11/gingerbread-cookie-mix-in-a-jar/

For your mom- same idea.. gift certificate where she likes to buy her hobby/extra-curricular stuff (stuff she's reluctant to buy for herself) - then package with a Cookie mix in a jar.

You can also do "soup mix in a jar" "bread mix in a jar" - "BBQ Rub in a Jar" etc. anything where there are different dry ingredients you can layer up in a jar to good effect.

For Dad: Same idea - Gift certificates wherever they do their "hobbies". Home Depot if they're DIY... The Model Airplane store if he's into that... Cabella's/ BassPro Shop if they're hunter/fishers... BestBuy if they're into gadgets... etc. Most guys have at least one thing they like that's "extra-curricular"

Package them up with "BBQ Rub in a Jar" if they're into that "Mexican Dip Mix in a Jar" - or more "Cookie Mix in a Jar" - all guys like cookies. - but you could also do "in a jar" stuff they could use for a Super-Bowl party... dry ingredients for big dip mixes... BBQ rubs.... Cornbread.... etc.

Hope That helps - Merry Christmas

Need some funny gift ideas for Father inlaw?

fiestyredh

He likes to send goofy stuff to our teenage son for Christmas. This year we are sending the grandparents a gag gift package. We have already picked up a huge Remote Control and Calculator. We're thinking about getting them The Clapper and possibly a Giant Clock. We need some funny gift ideas. They have a great sense of humor. Can you give us some ideas on what kind of products we could buy that old people could use. Inexpensive ideas please. That way we can include several things in this gift box.
Thanks!

Answer
Ex-lax, old glasses, ben gay, hemorrhoid cream, polyester clothes. Have fun
