Where are good ideas for Christmas present for kids?

Q. I have 4 neices/nephews from 3 to 10. Where's a good place to get ideas for gifts for Christmas? And is it better to buy online or fight the lines of Black Friday?

A. There are many lists put out by different toy stores, kids magazines, etc.

There is the Toys R Us Fabulous 15:
http://www.santaschristmascorner.com/toys-r-us-fabulous-15-toys-r-us-2012-holiday-hot-toy-list/

Also, K-Mart has it's own Fab 15 list:
http://www.santaschristmascorner.com/k-mart-top-15-christmas-toys-for-2012-part-1/

There are others, but I don't know the URLs off the top of my head.

As far as online vs black friday, I personally shop online. One, I don't like to get up early. Two, I don't like being trampled by people trying to get the 3 TVs for the special price. And Three, you will usually find bargains just as good or nearly as good online if you keep your eyes open.

What to do about family members not getting a gift for a baby shower?
Q. My daughter-in-law-law is expecting in February and this is her first child and first grandchild for both sides of the family. Her mother has planned the shower for December 16, 2012 nine days before Christmas. We received our invitations for the shower this weekend. My side of the family meaning my mother and three sisters are all having a fit about the shower yelling and screaming at me about it. I told them I had nothing to do with it that her mom has planned the whole thing. So now two of my sisters are planning to be there but they have told me that they will not have a gift because they have no money. But yet they can go out and spend all the time on stupid things. My mother also is having a fit because she has to buy a gift for the baby and she says she already has enough to buy for because she caters to my one sister and her 3 iligitimate granddaughers and six iligitimate great grandchildren, they are all on assistance but yet spend money like there is no tomorrow. At this point I just want to tell them that if they do not want to come to the shower and have such a problem about it then just at home. But everytime my nieces had a child I was expected to buy or they would not talk to me. My family is so messed up and I want this to be pleasant for my daughter-in-law plus I do not want them to embarass me because of the their actions. I really need some advice here and I am not sure how to handle this. Please help!

Christmas gift ideas for 18 year old sister in law?
Q. I want it to be unique. Shes a party girl but also in college. I cant spend a lot. Really need some ideas

A. You should get her something to pamper herself. Like something to relax her. A Bath and Body Works gift set is a popular gift choice this time of year. It's a really sweet gift. They had these awesome Black Friday tote sets yesterday. They came in a multi-use bag with coin purse and a ton of goodies inside. Some of the stuff inside was useful essentials and some of it was fun things. They're sold out now, but you could totally find one quickly on ebay for about $30-40? (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bath-and-Body-Works-Black-Friday-2012-VIP-Tote-7-products-Worth-110-/271109626436?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1f649a44)

Yosemite vacation next August 2012, looking for a nice hotel outside the park?
Q. Taking a family vacation next August and for once in my life I am planning ahead. Really do not want to do the camping thing. Have done it before and it is fun but looking for the easier way out. Any ideas would help looking for a hotel within 45 minutes of the park. Pool would be nice. Thanks for the help.

A. Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal is where we like to go. Indoor and outdoor pools and hottubs. Restruant and bar. Pizza place. Gift shop and small grocery. It's just a few miles outside the Tunnel Entrance on Hwy 140. Has larger rooms with lofts to sleep more than a family of 4. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Cedar Lodge. Similar to Yosemite View Lodge, but about 8 miles further outside the park which seems forever after a long day in the park on those roads, but much better than going all the way to Oakhurst.
http://www.yosemite-motels.com/yosemiteviewlodge/

Yosemite West is located inside the park and has homes and/or cabins for
rent. I've never stayed at them, but I did research them a bit once.
http://www.yosemitewest.com/

Tenaya is a nice resort run by the national parks. It is about an hour outside Yosemite Valley.
Awahnee is *the* hotel, but it runs around $500/night.

My husband and I make donations to organizations. But I would not want anyone to make one in our honor. If that was the case I would rather give them money and they don't need money.

A. Go with the golden anniversary theme and send them on a trip to the Gold Coast or a gold mine. There are several "Gold Coasts" to choose from. There is one in Africa, one in Australia, one in Florida and a Gold Coast casino in Las Vegas.

Appropriate gift ideas for a young couple?

Q. I'm going to be visiting an old high school friend and her boyfriend at their new home. It's not really a housewarming party. She won't be having a party, but I would still like to bring her something.

Any gift ideas?
They're a young couple, working and going to college.
They have an infant daughter.
They are strong Christians.
Artistic types.

Also, no alcohol. I'm not old enough to buy it, they aren't old enough to drink it.

Thanks in advance!

A. I feel sure that they will be delighted with any gift you give them.

You could take a gift for the child, it is always safe to take a toy suitable for a child that age.

A plant in a pot, ask for one which takes little care if you do. A picture frame for a photograph. A box of cookies or candy. There are drinks which are not alcoholic which are rather nice, there some sparkling grape juices are intended for adults who do not drink alcohol and are very suitable

http://www.shloer.com/drinks/

Ornaments are always difficult because of personal taste, you may love something they hate or visa versa so I would avoid anything to do with furnishing.

I must say that I find it a little odd that a strong christian couple who are not old enough to drink are living together out of wedlock and have a child. 00

What gifts should Australians give to Americans?
Q. I live in Australia and will be visiting friends from the US soon and was wondering what I should give to them (females and males) as gifts? Preferably something useful or unique to Australia that the US doesn't have. You can list clothing brands etc that Australia has but the US doesn't. That would also be helpful. Anything that US yahoo user want but can't get from Australia? Any recommendation would be highly appreciated. Thanks! xD

A. What about one of those hats with corks dangling all round the brim?
Or a boomerang?
Or a digeridooooo?

Seriously, try to find some locally made craft items rather than major brands. Nowadays mass produced stuff looks identical everywhere. Don't you have unusual types of minerals or mother of pearl of other stuff from the sea that is mande into interesting jewellery?

If you don't like this idea, check out this website - Australian stuff you can't buy in America

What are some good baby shower gift ideas?
Q. My sister-in-law is having a baby shower next month and I am not sure what to get them for a gift. They registered for mostly high priced items that are out of my price range. I am looking to spend about 30-40 dollars on their gift. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

A. The thing I appreciated most for my baby shower wasn't the cute little onesies and thumb-sized socks, although they were adorable. My friend got me a little divided-up basket filled with things like baby nail-clippers, one of those little nose-suckers, a thermometer, etc. There was baby shampoo and lotion in it, and Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Plus some lotion and bath salts for me. She also gave me these hand-written coupons. There was on for a weekend where she would watch the baby, one to take me out for lunch, things like that. The cute clothes and stuff like that are great, but that one I got was very personal and thoughtful. I still use the basket to put diapers and wipes out in the living room so I don't have to go all the way into baby's bedroom when I'm cooking or something.

What is a good Christmas gift idea for my mother to symbolize her becoming a first time grandmother?
Q. What is a good Christmas gift idea for my mother to symbolize her becoming a first time grandmother? I was thinking something engraved but I have no idea. Please help..thanks so much :)

A. You can surprise her wit a really nice and unique painting from a photo of you 2 and the baby, this is something really memorable that she won't forget, and she will be impressed too. I did this for my mom on her b-day and the effect was astonishing. Here is the source I used, you can check out http://www.paintedsouvenirs.com
Good luck with your mom! ;)

What is a fun christmas gift for a couple that just had a baby?
Q. My brother and his wife had their first baby a few months ago, any gift ideas? I already got stuff for the baby, but wanted to get them something, and I don't know what to get them!

A. You could make them a basket of things needed for a movie night in. Some new parents aren't comfortable leaving their child for awhile. So make a basket of a couple newly released dvds or gift voucher for a free rental, some packs of popcorn and maybe some candy.

If not, I agree with eveyone who said a voucher to babysit while they go out.

What is a good gift idea for swim team girls?

Q. Hi! I'm one of 3 captains of my high school swim team. We are trying to think of good gift ideas to get for the girls at the end of the season. Keep in mind our team has 37 girls! :) Thanks!

A. Bottles of Ultra Swim; small photo albums; small picture frames; little bottles of cologne.

Another idea: you can buy a kit to make your own refrigerator/locker magnets. So make magnets with your team logo and each girl's name. Or you could make a CD with some great songs to get pumped up for meets. We made personalized swimming note cards for some swim team friends. Printed out on the computer and cut them with a paper cutter. Purchased envelopes, and put 10 cards, 10 envelopes, in a pack. Tied each pack up with a ribbon.
That would be a lot for 37 girls, but it was rather inexpensive. A sheet of cardstock makes two notecards.

What are some good gift ideas for my boyfriend?
Q. Okay so it's me and my boyfriend's 2 month "anniversary" coming up soon. What are some good gift ideas?

Q. Time is ticking and I can not think of a creative gift idea for my husband!! I have searched and searched and can't find anything! Do any of you have any cute creative ideas on what your doing for your man?? If you do, please share!!!

A. I sent my bf a photo mosaic.
I use all of our photos and the picture we like as the cell photos to make a large picture.
He said it's sweet and creative.

What are some good birthday gift ideas for a 24yr old female?
Q. She has an ipod, loves music/movies, and is going to be moving soon, so nothing to big. Also she never helps us out with gift ideas, but our family is anti money/gift cards as gifts. Help! I can give any details asked.

A. Since she's moving soon-- what about a gift with a photo of you and her? You could just put it in a nice frame and write a personal note on the back, Or you could do a printed photo gift like a mouspad, mug, ornament, etc. (there are lots of places you can do this-- www.discountphotogifts.com, www.cafepress.com, www.zazzle.com, www.snapfish.com, www.kodakgallery.com).

What is a cute way to announce a pregnancy to your parents and in-laws?

Q. My sister just told me she is pregnant with her first baby and she wants a cute way to tell our parents and her in-laws. This will be a first grandchild for her in-laws. She is going to wait until Christmas to tell them. I think she is looking for a way to wrap it as a gift. Any ideas?

A. Get her to wrap baby items for them all and sneak them under the christmas tree and see how long it takes them to work out who gave them the baby gift and why

Or put a gift for baby under the tree and write "to the new bundle coming" and when they ask whose gift it is she can say meeee

What is a good gift idea for a baby shower?
Q. My friend is having a girl and I want to find a creative gift, not just baby clothes or blankets.

A. I read this in a baby magazine, and I thought it was the perfect idea.

If you think about it, everyone will probably be getting something for the baby, but I think it would be awesome to get the soon-to-be mom a gift.

Something that will benefit her while she is pregnant, whether its a sleep pillow to help ease her strain when she is farther along, whether its an at home spa treatment type of gift, (her favorite body wash, loofa, candle, lotion, etc for those difficult days of pregnancy)

I just thought it was a great idea. The expecting mother will apreciate it father down the line. :)

Plus, with my baby shower, I had so many things for the baby, I didnt have much space to store everything! we had so so so so so many blankets, I have a whole stack my daughter hasnt even used, and shes 10 months old.

what are some gift ideas for a pregnant girlfriend who is 21yrs old?
Q. My friend is having a baby in february and wants to get her something special. Any Ideas?

A. Please, please, don't get her anything baby related for her birthday. When it's time for the baby shower, get her something for the baby...meanwhile, it's her birthday, so celebrate her!

I might suggest a massage...Many day spa's offer pregnancy massages, which (a) allow her to relax in a way that doesn't interfere with her belly, and (b) will help to relax the muscles that get really sore when a woman is pregnant.

Alternately, there's always the things that the rest of us want, even when we're not pregnant...Diamonds or pearls are always nice! :)

What are some good gift ideas for my (first-time) expectant wife?
Q. They have to be tangible items, ie, not a massage. Not a book because we have tons of them, not a trip to the spa, but things pregnant women want either for during their pregnancy or for after even, but we are only 11 weeks along.

A. A snuggle Body Pillow... will help her sleep when she starts to get bigger.

Organic body creams and oils to moisturize and to prevent stretch marks... Earth Mama Angel Baby has some good gift packages you can get her.

"The Pregnancy Journal" by A. Christine Harris, Ph.D. -- at drugstore.com -- for her to keep track of her thoughts and feelings during pregnancy and also see the various norms for every stage of gestation. I love looking back at mine.

A yoga pregnancy DVD if she's into keeping fit.

Would it be more beneficial to give fruit trees or ducks to a family?

Q. This is the gift ideas from World Vision. I know that fruit provides essential vitamins and nutrients that the families need for both the children and adults alike, but ducks also do that, and they don't have to wait five years before the trees mature enough to make fruit. But a tree would last longer. What do you think?

A. Why don't you let World Vision decide what to give to whom. You just make your donation.

What are some birthday/Christmas ideas for a friend overseas?
Q. I live in the states and I met my boyfriend who lives in England on Xbox over a year ago. I plan to move over but need to save up the money. In the mean time his birthday and Christmas are both coming up in December. We are very close and speak constantly. I am not asking for your opinion on the situation, please, I am an adult. I simply would like to get some inexpensive gift ideas. Please help. Thanks. :)

A. Pack a box with maybe some chocolates that he likes, a card, some kind of Xbox accessories or maybe some funny gag gifts, depending on his personality. He'd probably enjoy trying some 'American' food! I've also found that pictures frames make great gifts -they don't have to have pictures in them,, that way they can use it however they want

What are some good recipes for homemade Christmas gifts?
Q. I am already planning on making fudge, and toffee but would like some more candy or dessert ideas
I am also looking for some gift jar ideas/recipes. I already plan on one for chocolate chip cookies and homemade hot cocoa. I would really like a good recipe for a blueberry muffin one if you know of any.

I have a large family and want to give each of the adults (24) a gift somewhere along these lines, but I don't want to make all the same things so any ideas?

A. Flavored sugar is a great 'gift jar' gift. I used a spice mill to grind dried lemon, orange, lime peel (separately) and added them to sugar with a drop of food coloring shaken in for effect. I also buy a bag or two of sugar every January and go to the whole foods store and buy vanilla beans (they are cheaper). I make a slit down the middle lengthwise (careful not to go all the way through to the other side) then I place a bunch of these beans in an airtight jar with the sugar and leave it alone until Christmas. Then I put it in jars and give out. The lime sugar and the vanilla sugar seem to be the most appreciated. Especially by tea drinkers and bakers.

You can also take last years fruitcake (you know it lasts forever) and crumble it up. Then, dip your hands in a little water or flavored liqueur and roll into small balls and place in a pan to dry overnight. Then melt some choc chips in the microwave (one bag choc chips and 1 teaspoon Crisco for shine) dip balls and place on wax paper til chocolate sets. This recipe makes fruitcake lovers out of anyone who loves chocolate (esp. the dark chocolate).

What are some fun ideas for a kodak theme sweet 16 party?
Q. The party will be outdoors and in the summer. The people attending will be teenagers and some adults. I need: set up ideas; games; gift bag ideas; etc. Please give any ideas that you have. Thank You!

A. That's a very unusual theme! You might try contacting Kodak and asking if they have posters or ad displays that they could send to you....I'm sure they don't get many requests for them! .... have a bunch of disposable cameras around for guests to take photos ... At a dollar store, you can find little picture frames, disposable cameras for gift bags; and sticker sheets (for scrapbooking) ...

Good gift ideas for older brother, new baby, and mommy to #2?

Q. My friend is due very soon for baby #2. She also has a boy who will be 3 years old a few weeks later. When we go visit them, I want to bring 3 small gifts... nothing expensive as we can't afford much right now. But I want to give a birthday/big brother gift to the boy. I want to give a small gift to the newborn baby girl. I also want to give a small gift to the mommy, my friend. Any ideas?

A. I would get mom a gift card to a coffee shop, or to a restaurant. For the new baby a cute outfit in a larger size than 0-3 months. The little boy I would get him a small toy like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2903473

Does anyone have good baby shower ideas?
Q.

A. The best things I had at my shower were:

Diaper/Wipe Raffle- For every package of wipes or diapers someone brings, they get a raffle ticket. Later on, a ticket is drawn and the winner gets a $20 gift or giftcard. ( Since most baby shower gifts are cheap $1-$5 gifts, most of the people really enjoyed it). My son is 10 months and we still haven't had to buy any wipes. The diapers lasted until he was about 5 months.

Decorate a Bib or Onesie Table- Plain bibs and onesies in various sizes are placed on a table with the clothes paint( the kind in a squeeze bottle). Each guest can make a personalized item for the baby. Not only is it useful, but it's fun to see what each person wrote. We only had 0-3 and 3-6 onesies, but the bibs are things we still use. =)

How can I phrase a baby shower invite for mom-2-be that only wants gift cards? (without sounding tacky)?
Q.

A. To reduce the stress of gettign too much of one thing and not enough of another the mom 2 be is asking that if you chose to give a gift that it be a giftcard to (whatever store)thank you very much

And to everyone who thinks it's rude an pointless.. it reduces thefights over who wants to buy you what, you dotn have to worry about not having the one hting you need. YOU WONT Get SIX DIAPER BAGS(not bags of diapers) and most importantly of all if you wont be stuck with no clothes fo rthe baby because the baby is bigger or smaller than the clothes you got. AS appreciative as i was I got 0-3 months clothes that my daughter was too small for...I spent the first week of her life trying to find her clothes.....and my neighbor just had a 10 lb baby.....0-3 months is only 5-11 lbs...what good would that have done them if all their babies clothes were only to 11lbs???it's not abbout how happy you are that people liek what you bought for the baby. it's about the baby having what it needs.Although a registry might be a good idea in theory, soemtimes it's absolutly useless. Also those "cute little outfits" everyone says is the most important part of the shower, are not going to pump milk or monitor the baby while it sleeps or anything like that. Like i said it's about the baby no tthe gift givers and apparently there are alot of people on yahoo answers that like to give gifts for the recognition and other selfish reasons...as opposed to it being needed. While no one is obligated to bring gifts, the people who do shouldnt make it about themselves

Baby Shower Gift help!?
Q. I am attending a shower soon and need ideas for gifts. I have bought one bib that she told me she wanted to have and a gift set that has lotion, shampoo, wipes, and a small pack of diapers. What else should I add? I have known her for a while and would like to get a few more inexpensive items. I thought about getting her a few outfits, maybe one 0-3 month and a 3-6 month outfit.

A. I would say a few receiving blankets or one or 2 sleepers.

A. Garage sales, fetes, and charity shops are fantastic for bargains. You should start gathering stuff straight after Christmas at the Christmas sales. Same with birthday presents. If things are really tight, space out your socialising at Christmas and when your Auntie gives you something, give it to your girlfriend and so on. One year I took a photo of myself nude and put glitter glue and holly stickers over the rude bits and made Christmas cards and rubberstamped the inside with the words MERRY CHRISTMAS. They were such a huge hit that I sold them in boxes of 6. Just remember, anything moist like glue makes the paper curl so no big dollops. I have done this for 3 years in a row and made two calendars as well (photos round the house and garden, and photos on overseas trips) (me naked in Glasgow, naked on the pyramids, etc) but trying to put a different pose on each month made it expensive ($60 per calendar) and I made no profit on the calendars. For sedate friends I made Christmas cards from black and white photocopies of photos of myself on Santa's knee at age 5. But the worst thing was, I didn't put my glasses on and didn't notice that the date had been faintly pencilled on the photo margin by my mother. And it came out even darker on the photocopy but still so faint I didn't notice it. Everyone found out I had been lying about my age for years.

Put Christmas paper around tins and put succulent cuttings in them with really cheap Christmas earrings hanging off the "branches" as decorations as tho they were little Christmas trees. A man I know gave all his women friends home made gift vouchers for massages. None were redeemed but it caused a lot of mirth. The best presents are ones that will be used every day by the receiver cos every time they touch them they will think of you. My Aunt gave me an assemble-it-yourself marble upright kitchen paper towel holder. It is just a thick marble disk with a marble pole thing coming up from the middle of it. Every time I yank a piece of paper from the roll I think of her. I bought a skull for a dollar at a garage sale and gave it to my doctor and he keeps it on his desk. When anyone asks my lawyer at a social event, for any legal advice, he says METER'S RUNNING! to warn them he might bill them. From a scrap metal yard I got him an outdated parking meter which works, and he has it mounted next to his desk. When I told them the story behind the gift, they gave it to me free. The zoo sells bags of manure cheap, from the animal cages and calls it ZOO POO and this causes good reactions when you give these for gifts. A friend of mine and I were invited to this rich person's place for his birthday and we were broke. We thought we would get him something later, and look at his tastes first. There were loads of people there in the house and garden. We were shown over the house by his partner when we arrived and saw they had an antique vacuum cleaner museum. We slipped out of the party, sped back to a deceased estate's storeroom that belonged to my family and got the oldest vacky in the world, ran a wet rag all over it and took it back to the party and dingdonged the doorbell. When he opened the door he went ga-gaa over the gift and said HOW DID YOU KNOW I COLLECTED THESE? It turned out to be one of the oldest in his set and it was the hit of the party.

If you give someone jewellery, and they like it, they will wear it every day and remember you gave it to them.

You can make jewellery yourself out of bits and pieces of broken jewellery but you have to have flair and some craft books from the library and friends who appreciate that sort of thing.

Christmas decorations are good to give, especially a box of string lights, but that is getting up to the $10 mark. My Aunt gave me a tin angel which comes out every Christmas for the table and has very sharp edges which I have managed to stay clear of.

One couple gave me a near-life-size stuffed toy gorilla that they got at a charity shop, and a designer jacket which is so beautiful. I have dressed as Santa and visited friends on Christmas day and gasbagged to their children and their children's friends. Also at Halloween I dressed as a witch for some friends' children and answered their door for trick or treat. I had kids screaming and running backwards into each other I was so scary. The first time I opened the door the kids were so upset and screaming that I got a fright too and actually wet myself so I couldn't sit down the rest of the night. But the second and subsequent times, I got used to it.

Get cheap frames and cut out pics of film stars from magazines and sign the pics in flourishing black texta pen TO SUSIE WITH LOVE FROM BRAD, NICE MEETING YOU XXX (a pic of Brad Pitt). These were a great hit and look like real photos if you have glass over them. In some mags the film stars pose properly for the cameras so don't get a pic of Britney walking along the street eating an icypole.

If you can make Christmas fruit cakes, and can cover them with plastic icing, make a frill for round the bottom to cover where the ragged bottom meets the board, out of silver or gold cupcake paper holders. Cut the round bottom out of them, then don't let the lining fall away cos it adds stiffness, cut the remainder into two or four strips and push the top up into the icing in scollop (spelling?) pattern. Overlap the side edges. One or two of the first ones will look messy maybe, but by the time you have finished all round the cake, it will look good. If your first cake looks really messy, do two rows, the one above to hide the joins of the row below. If you had stiff gold paper doyleys you could use these instead. Long as they have a sharp stiff edge to stick into the icing.

Some perfumes at Asian shops or big department stores, have funny names. They might not smell like French perfumes but surprisingly for cheap perfumes, the packaging is nice. I got a few bottles of perfume where the packaging looked very classy and it was called NO! This caused a lot of merriment.

Just hours before closing on Christmas Eve, a supermarket near me reduced their Christmas puddings to 80cents each, and their big trees to $5. If you see a small shop open really late on Christmas eve, the owner is desperate to get rid of their Christmas stock so go in there and they will even offer you a drink while you are looking around!

My Uncle went into hospital and I gave him soap and a water pistol so he could give himself bedbaths.

Get metal serving trays from home or garage sales, doesn't matter if they are all scratched, as long as they are not buckled. If the edges are wavy and not just straight, even better. Paint it roughly with a couple of coats of different colour paints and put a couple of holes in it and hang it with fancy cord. This is a metal board now for magnets. Put a magnet on it with a note saying MERRY CHRISTMAS etc.

My parents are going to a 60 year old man and his 63 year old sisters birthday party. What to get them?
Q. His sister is mentally retarted and uses a wheelchair. What should my parents and where should they get it from? Any ideas?
Thanks

A. Maybe buy them a fragrance gift set...aftershave/soap/powder in a men's toiletry bag...and for her, perfume/soap/powder in a ladies toiletry bag.
Everyone can always use those things (and her carer can use them on her) so they feel pampered and smell lovely.
The expense of the gifts can be up to you depending on how luxury the fragrance etc is.

or maybe you could buy him a nice painting, or nice bottle of wine etc and just give his sister the toiletries.

Hi, my dads bday is coming up and hes turnin 60,,any ideas on what i should get him?
Q.

A. hey bud, the best thing to do wen ur young or even if ur older, is the thought of the present, so just write him a custom made card and go give him a kiss and tell him happy bday....or right a coupon pack with 20 coupons ,make sure each coupon has at least some sort of chore you are willing to do, so one coupon good for cleaning bathroom, doing dishes, etc etc....i did tht wen i was younger good luck man

You could have a cake shaped like a plug socket or a light switch.... maybe you could have HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD written on it in red, green and yellow so that it looks like wires and cables?

you can go in for the conventional gifts like watch, a shirt or tie, gift basket with flowers, cake, perfume etc., or maybe compile his favourite music on fathers day, a phone, ipod etc..

Good luck, i hope your dad likes his cake and has a good birthday x

What to get a ten year old boy for Christmas?
Q. I'm looking for gift ideas for my ten year old nephew. He is mostly interested in video games, but I'd rather not get him another game. He doesn't like sports, but he seems to have some interest in science. He also really likes technology, such as cell phones, computers, etc.

Every year, when I ask his parents what to get him, they tell me the name of a specific video game or request a gift card for a video game. I'd really like to find something a little more original, that would still be fun. Any ideas?

A. amazon has some really cool basic robotics kits for his age group. I was just looking at them and you can get some nifty sets for under $50 and free amazon shipping.

What can a 2 year old make (or help make) as a gift for family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc)?
Q. I'm trying to think of gift ideas for my 2 year old to make or help make for her grandparents and aunts and uncles. I don't want anything like coloring a picture or anything like that (we've done that so many times already!) I'm looking for unique and creative ideas, preferably ones that are fairly inexpensive. Thanks in advance! :)

A. I'm planning on making snow globes with my kids and they are 2 and 3 1/2 years old.
Materials
Glass Baby Food Jar & Lid
Glitter
Baby Oil
Small Figurines (about 1-1.5 inches tall)
Glue
The instructions are on this website (along with other craft ideas)
http://www.babybumpdiaries.com/how-to/easy-toddlers-christmas-crafts/

Another idea I found and want to try are fruit loop sand decoration vase:
-You take a box of fruit loops and separate the colors and then put each colors in a bag and crush them into sand
-then get a nice looking vase or glass container with a lid, and pour the different color of fruit loop sand in.

Pine cone decoration (also on the website I listed above)
-put glue all over pine cone then sparkles!
-tie ribbon or string to top

hot chocolate ice cream cones (I saw this on Oprah a few years ago)
-take one of those triangle shaped cake decorating bags and put hot chocolate powder in to look like the cone part, then mini marshmallows for the ice cream part and chocolate chips for sprinkles, tie the top up with ribbon

hope that helps!! Good luck!!!

What should i get my mom for christmas?

Q. So, my mom is 50. She's got just about everything imaginable. I'm 15. She's not girly. She is a teacher. She loves animals, especially ours. Any good gift ideas for moms?

A. Gift card at her favorite store. If you can't decide, let her decide for you.

What are you getting your mom for Christmas?
Q. I'm totally stuck for gift ideas for my mom! I have though of all the typical stuff like soaps, perfumes, books etc, but I want something more interesting. Any ideas? What are you gonna buy your mom?

A. Well, last year I bought her a digital picture frame and uploaded some old and new pictures of me, her and my family and she really liked it. Here are some things:

-Home decor (things to decorate or accessorize your house)
-Gift card to her favorite store
-Be her servant for a whole day
-Bake her her favorite meal or dessert
-Jewlery (I also got her a necklace from the Jane Seymour collection and she LOVED it!)
-Print up pictures of you and her and put them in a frame and add stickers or cool paper
-Make a memory scrapbook
-Her favorite candy or chocolate
-Body lotions
-Perfume
-Hat, gloves, scarf
-Clothes
-Things for her car
-Digital camera
-Slippers
-Coffee mug filled with chocolates or something
-Keychain with a picture of you two in it
-Coffee mug that you can put pictures in

This year, I think I am going to buy my mom either a Pandora bracelet or make a cool picture frame for her to put on her desk at work or something. She likes more memorable things. Hope this helps and Happy Holidays! (:

What are some good gift ideas to get your mother?
Q. Okay I need some good gift ideas to get for xmas for my mom.

A. It really depends, I mean she is your mom so you should know better then anyone. My mom loves the New York Yankees so she is pretty easy to buy for, she also loves disney. Does your mom have any favorites or hobbies? If not sentimental things are always good. You could get a nice piece of jewlery. Maybe a locket with a picture of you when you were younger and now when you are older..

What is a good gift for a son to get a Mother?
Q. I am in the military and won't be home for Christmas what do you think are some good gift ideas for a mom?

A. You should buy something local. Not only does it help the place you are currently resting your head and bring goodwill, it will be something no other moms will get.

Take a picture of you buying it from a local merchant and include a note. It won't get there in time, but you will get the picture of you buying it there in time for sure.

Moms with sons in danger are extremely sentimental.

Merry Christmas!

What should I get my boyfriend for our anniversary?

Q. On friday it will be our 4 year anniversary. I am 18 and he is 21.
I thought we were just going to get each other little gifts but then I found out he got me an ipad 2.
I need some ideas on what to get him.
Some big gifts that I have given him in the past are an ipod and gps.
He doesn't like sports!
Do you have any ideas?

Thank you!

A. maybe get concert tickets coming up that he wants to see?...........or a chain? ring? or something he's had his eye on*.........You don't have to go out and spend as much as he has (on the ipad 2)........
make a special dinner for the 2 of you* candle light...soft music, romantic*......
give him a massage? have a bubble bath together*

no matter what you buy him, he'll appreciate the soft and romantic evening you had planned*

My husband is deployed, what is something cool I can do for our anniversary?
Q. My husband is in guam and I am in Florida. He is 15 hours ahead. We can sype and email, but i can't ship anything to him. ANy ideas? Its our 4 year anniversary. THanks!

A. Actually I'm stationed on Guam and there is UPS and we also have the U.S. Postal Service. Your husband should have a P.O. Box while TDY so that you can mail him stuff.

Most guys like typical things like beer, sex, and football. Sex you probably can't do unless you want to dress up really sexy and email him some pics. Buy him his favorite team's jersey and mail it to him or send him a Chili's or TGIF meal card. We have those things on Guam and every guy likes those kind of places. If you were my wife and I was deployed and you sent me a gift card like that, it would make me happy.

Besides, you can do something really special when he returns in a few short months so you can always offer him a "rain check" for a romantic escap.

Good luck!

What can we do for our anniversary?
Q. It is mine and my partner's 4 year anniversary tomorrow. Any ideas for anything free or very cheap (we are poor students!) that we could do? We live in New Zealand.

Thank you in advance.

A. If you've been with him for 4 years gifts arn't all that important but you could try a nice dinner date

What should I get for my bosses for their 3 year anniversary as a company?
Q. We are a small trucking company (4 employees) and have 3 bosses who started this company 3 years ago. Tomorrow is the 3rd year anniversary and they are inviting us employees out for dinner. Yet a coworker and I feel we should do something for THEM. Any ideas? Please note that the other two employees are very new and may not want to contribute, so something not too expensive would be great.

A. YOU SHOULD NOT BE BUYING GIFTS FOR BOSSES!!!!

But you can buy a nice congratulations card IF ALL THE EMPLOYEES SIGN IT...and give it at the appropriate time at the party

What should we give a 40 year old women for her Birthday present?

Q. We have a friend/colleague who is turning 40. What would be a nice gift to give her? Thanks for any ideas. (I'm terrible at giving gifts and usually give money, however in this case money is not appropriate.)
Please vote on this tie-breaker:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlK6XU6SbcZNrHO4BIv54GTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090124055736AAgNqXF&show=7#profile-info-FeYDLTeFaa

A. The group can pool your money together and give her a gift card to a restaurant. Give enough for her to take her husband if married and if not she can take someone special. Or a gift card to a department store. Just don't give an over the hill prank gift. Forty is a difficult age for some people and she may be having a hard time with her age at this point.

Well, I am planing a 40th Surprise Birthday Party and I need help!!!!?
Q. I neeed a good theme and different ideas for centerpieces, and party favors. I would like to keep it low budget but a nice get together. A D.J. is possible so if you have any ideas helppppppp! THANKS!

A. You haven't mentioned anything about your birthday person or whether they're a female or male, which might make a difference in your choice of themes. Turning 40 for men is different than turning 40 for women! Anyway, if you are having a birthday "girl", I'd suggest underplayed elegance with a side of humor. Think about flowers for the center pieces. Party favors might be edible ones, such as See's truffles either in their box's with ribbon or in tule with flowers and ribbon. Or, you can consider gift bags, which seem to be a rage these days, and include: chocolate, a nice pen, a favorite poem about getting older and the joys of menopause, bubble bath et al. On the wild side, you could use a theme about women coming into the best times of their lives sexually and emotionally and go from there. For the guys? Well, humor goes a long long way here.

What birthday present to buy to a women over 40?
Q. I need help here. What can you buy a women over 40, with an expensive taste, when you are travelling abroad? She already has most regulr things...expensive gifts are very risky (chances are she will not like it...and it is impossible to return...cheap stuff is out of question...) any ideas?

A. It really depends on where you're travelling. Local folk art is a great gift, as it can't be bought wherever you live. It depends on what her taste is (expensive is kind of vague). Get her something that can only be found where you're travelling. Objects d'art are always good.

What to bring as a gift to my host family in Germany?

Q. I will be participating in a student exchange program, and I need to bring gifts for my host family in Germany. My host family consists of a 16 year old girl, 6 year old boy, and their mother and father. I live in Indiana, and so far they have requested that I bring peanut butter, a picture book of the US or Indiana, and clothes (of American football and Indy 500 logos.). Do you have any other ideas of stuff that I can bring as gifts?

A. Definitely bring American things. They are participating in this exchange program because they want to learn more about your culture.

Their suggestions are a good start for culturally U.S. things. You might also look for puzzles that relate to the U.S. (map style, or photos of landmarks). You could bring a band t-shirt and CD for a band that's popular in your area. Candy is another thing that tends to be fairly region specific, so things like Sour Patch Kids and Swedish fish may be different than what they have there.

What are some good Christmas gift ideas for the boyfriend?
Q. I'm doing a little bit of Christmas shopping and I'm just completely lost as to what I should buy as a gift for my boyfriend this Christmas. He's 27 years old, we've been together about a year. He likes sports but isn't a huge fan. Enjoys video games like world of warcraft. i was thinking a jersey for his favorite team but someone else is already getting that for him. Anyone have any fun creative gift ideas?

A. The first year I got my boyfriend silky boxers, a couple nice shirts, and a wallet. Last year I got him an iHome, and more boxers (they became like a tradition after the first year). Just go with things that you KNOW he will use.

what should I ask for for my 13th birthday?

Q. I'm a girl, and my birthdays next Wednesday and I have no idea what to ask for.
I want gift cards for clothes but I don't know what to ask.
I have a laptop and a nook already and don't really want a phone or Ipod right now.
Help please?
Oh and I'm already having a volunteer b-day party and spending my summer volunteering
for others. But what do I ask for?

A. You were just like me when I turned thirteen last year. Since I'm a classy woman who is naturally professional, my dad got me a Stella McCartney designer perfume for 80 or 90 dollars. I still have it and it smells like fresh red roses. I think a nice wrist-watch is a good idea too. If you like art, you can ask for sketchbooks and materials. Or maybe like me, go to barnes and noble or from nook, buy a couple books like Brain Jack by Brian Falkener, Water For Elephants, or Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. Hope this helps! :)

what would be a good idea for a gift for a male horse rider?
Q. i am friends with a male horse rider but ive searched all over amazon but it only comes up with presents for girls, Help Me Please his birthday is next month but i really want to find something soon, Thankyou

A. English or western is the question...
My husband is a calf roper (rodeo) so over the years I've gotten him:
-Custom made spurs with his initials on them ($450)
-A bit that matches his spurs ($500)
-New western shirts (they can never have enough- $50- $80)
-A nice baseball cap (if your friend is a roper look for a Hooey hat... is the new "in" brand- $30-$50)
-A custom made headstall ($300)
-A nice belt (he's won a lot of buckels so he's constantly switching them out- $100-$400)
- A nice leather halter with his good rope horse's name on it ($120)
- Bell boots ($30)
-Skid Boots($50)
- Pro choice boots($100)
Look through his tack room and see what looks a little worn out... I find we can never have enough bell boots and whatnot! (If you're not familiar with horses go to your local tack store and ask for no-turn bell boots)

Thing NOT to get!!
-Boots (they have got to be tried on)
- A cowboy hat (men are CRAZY PICKY about their hats!)
- Ropes (crazy picky about those too)

I swear men are SO much harder to buy for than women! Good luck!

What do you think of these christmas gift ideas?

Q. So, I'm broke, but I need to get christmas gifts for 4 people: my mom, sister, cousin, and best friend. I'm good at finding sales, so here's what I was thinking:
My cousin: I'll go around to macy's and hollister and pick up a couple things on sale. Theres a $5 rack at macy's so I'll grab done shirts from there. Then I'll get a bunch of candy.
Mom: a cd that she wants, and chocolate
Sister: starbucks card
Bff: same as cousin, just with makeup and the dark knight rises on dvd.

What do you think?

A. Sounds great! It's the thought that counts. You can make them some cookies as well if you wanted to do more but that sounds like more than enough. P.S. Everyone loves home made cookies!

How can I get help for christmas I'm a single mother of two kids?

Q. Please any information will be helpful I'm a single mother of two wonderful kids I just left a bad relationship with their father ...I don't have much money so I really need help for christmas thank you for taking your time to read this god bless you

A. Hi there, I know times can be tough when you don't have a lot of cash to spare- especially at a time like Christmas, and so I have a couple of suggestions of how to make your money stretch a little bit further :)

If you have the time, homemade gifts are always appreciated. This could be a knitted sweatshirt, scarf or hat, some home-sewn Christmas pyjamas or a toy teddy made with love. One awesome homemade gift idea is sweet bouquets, which are super cheap and easy to make but look incredible!
Buy a few of their favourite chocolate bars, a giant lollipop, maybe some Christmas themed chocolates etc. and arrange them into a fancy looking bouquet!

Depending on the age of your children, you can create 'packages' to fit with their hobbies. These can be super affordable depending where you buy the bits-and-bobs and are certainly cheaper than ready made hampers and gift baskets that you can buy.

Ideas:

- For older girls you can make a 'pamper package'- a simple box or basket containing pampering items. These could include a face cloth, bath or shower products, nail polish and files, a hair accessory, a relaxing CD (easily created by burning music from iTunes), and some chocolates.

- Another package idea is a baking hamper with an apron, oven gloves, a spatula or whisk, cupcake cases or tray, and a simple kids cookbook. You could even handwrite (or type up) your own cookbook of family recipes.

- A gardening gift basket is popular with kids who like to be outdoors. It could contain a pair of gloves, a mini shovel, some seeds and a cute colourful watering can.

- Crafty kids would love a gift box of craft items, such as paint and brushes, crayons, felts or coloured pencils, buttons, sequins, paper off-cuts or scrapbooking supplies.

- A 'movie goodie pack' can be done one of two ways- either a couple of the kids favourite DVDs, or a pass (or two) to the local cinema, along with some popcorn, a drink, and some snacks (such as small bags of lollies or chocolate bars).

Another suggestion I have is the Toys For Tots organization, which can be found here:
http://www.toysfortots.org/

Their aim is to supply brand new toys free to children around America who may not have enough money to get them usually. I'm not sure where you live; you might (like me) not live in the USA, but a range of this kind of organization can be found around the world.

God Bless and I hope you and your family enjoy the Christmas period :)

I love Chicago, and want to make something crafty to show my adoration for it... Any ideas?
Q. My friend is in love with Texas, and made this: http://tinypic.com/r/21dfk84/6
(we're from Wisconsin, btw)

I think it's adorable, and so crafty, and I want to make something crafty and similar for my love of Chicago, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

I've tried searching for something of inspiration on Pinterest, but no such luck..

A. The first thing that came to mind was the CTA map. You know, the one with all the trains on it, Red, Pink, Brown, Purple, Blue, Orange, and Green lines. They have gifts at http://www.transitchicago.com to maybe give you some further inspiration, but I've always liked the graphic aspect of the route map, which was patterned after London's famous Underground map.

What's another Chicago symbol? Besides the Tommy gun, which is almost a century old and part of the past that most of the city is trying to forget. How about the Chicago Theater sign? Then there's the Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) sculpture in Millennium Park, the red Wrigley Field sign, Sears Tower (sorry, only tourists call it Willis), the Picasso statue in Daley Plaza, the Field Museum, the Hancock Building, or just the skyline? Most of those are iconic structures and would be easily recognizable in most forms, though there are undoubtedly others I've missed or that have more significance to you.

How to render them would be up to you because I don't know your level of training and experience, what kind access you have to tools, or your budget. I hope I didn't just point out the obvious and you maybe have something to start with.

What gift should I(or the team) buy for my volleyball coach?

Q. My coach's birthday is coming up and the whole team decided to buy her a gift. I'm not sure if we buy a separate gift or a gift as a whole, but can you guys give me ideas for both?

Thanks!

A. If you do something sentimental like everyone else suggested, keep it small. As a coach myself, those things are really, really sweet....but over time, with lots of teams, that stuff adds up. Where is she going to end up keeping tons of picture frames or signed volleyballs or trinkets? I do think the t-shirt idea is cute because she can actually USE it.

My suggestion would've been something to pamper herself. The season can be exhausting when you're on the road a lot. If it were me, I'd LOVE a gift card to a restaraunt so that I can go out for dinner one night after a game or something. During the season, she doesn't get much time to herself, so anything that can help her just relax & enjoy her time off is much needed!

Volleyball CLUB team looking for fundraiser ideas?
Q. I will be coaching a CLUB volleyball team, however, the parents and us have no idea on how we can raise money? Or how to approach businesses to help donate money or help us with coupon booklets? How can we approach local businesses and get them to donate gifts, money, or anything that will help us get new jerseys, money for tournament fees, and gym rentals?

A. have a talk to a local gas station to see if your team can have a cars wash over the weekend..Sat & Sun.

Is it too late for me to start playing basketball? I'm going into 8th grade and am a girl.?
Q. I play volleyball primarily and I'm looking to play basketball on the side, but I'm wondering if its too late. I'm going into 8th grade next year. I'm 6 feet tall and have always played pickup basketball in the driveway but never actually played basketball so I have no idea about the rules. Thanks so much! :)

A. Too late? For what? It might take some time before you get good at it, but you're still 5 years away from heading off to college (maybe you'll get a scholarship to play basketball or volleyball in college). I think other girls have started even later than you. A coach can't teach something like height; your height will help you to excel at basketball. Hopefully you are still growing, too. Being tall is a great gift, not only for sports but also for making impressions on people.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to get for my volleyball team as gifts?
Q. I was going to get something that I can personalize and something they would love. Also if anyone has any ideas of what to get the coaches and the managers.

A. One thing I did for my team that was a big hit was to make hair ribbons for everyone. My team was green and gold so I bought some really nice thick green ribbon and some yellow puff paint. I cut 10-12 inch ribbons and then painted each persons number and our school initials onto each one. Most everyone wore their hair in some sort of ponytail so we really looked great!
