My friend has asked me to throw her a baby shower. Would it be disrespectful to say that the time is my gift?

Q. Also, I would like to know what kind of gift would be a good idea if the answer is yes

A. Are you going to be spending money on hosting the party or is the mom to be going to be funding it? If you are footing the bill then I don't see why the party can't be the gift. If you are not spending money on the party (or very little money) then I think you might want to also buy a gift. 0-3 month clothes are always good or a pack of diapers.

Baby Shower Gift Basket for my mum - what will I put in it?
Q. My mum is due in April, and I know it's early to start shopping for all presents, but because i'm 17, I only really have Saturdays to go shopping when she's at work..........I plan on making a hamper full of things that she'll need. I'm an only child though so I've no idea what babies need. Any Idea's?
what do all mum's use?
what clothes?
should i include like bottle, dummies etc?

A. Clothes: Don't waste your $ on newborn size outfits as babies very quickly outgrow them (or never fit into them to begin with). If you decide on clothes, buy very few 0-3 month sz as again they outgrow them quickly. Anything other than a nightgown or onesie for a baby younger than 4 months old is a complete waste.. we got so many cute outfits for our son that he only wore once! Complete waste of a gift. Also, as for socks, do NOT buy any in the newborn or 0-3 month sz.. they shrink in the drier and are a waste of $ as they end up too small and cutting into baby's ankles.

Soft receiving blankets are a good idea and you can find some really cute ones. Diapers in the size 1 (as the baby will quickly outgrow the newborn sz). We and most of our friends prefer Pampers, Huggies are horrible.

Gift idea for my friend who is having a baby boy?
Q. It doesn't have to be fancy just a little something to say i'm here and i love u. shes gonna be a teen mom so im trying to be supportive. no mean comments please.

A. To go less expensive buy some age 0-3 onsies or sleepers. A 5 pack won't run you more than $10, and the baby can wear only those for the next 3 months after it is born.

The playtex bottle gift set is about $20 and gets rave reviews (if she isn't breastfeeding, or extremely environmentally conscious - they have disposable liners).

booties and hats are good, as are receiving blankets, baby washcloths.

Many new moms get way too much "newborn" things, and have nothing left 3 months later! Getting things that the baby can use in 3 months to one year would be a great investment.

Some babies are born too big to ever use the things that say "newborn" so 0-3 months is the better way to go.

How to size baby shoes?
Q. A good friend of mine is due sometime January, so I thought I'd try making (crochet) some baby booties to send her. I've crocheted plenty of times, but I'm not too familiar with baby shoes. I was following a pattern for 0-3 months, but they look a little large. I was wondering how long they should be?

A. Your best bet would be to do the 0-3 month old, otherwise the child will more than likely not be able to wear them after a week. I got some really cute gifts and it was not until the 2nd or 3rd week that I got around to putting cute stuff on my baby and taking photos and by then a few of the outfits got really snug! That sounds like a lovely gift from the heart. Good idea to keep her baby's tootsies warm.
