What are some great birthday gift ideas for best friend?

shelby ale

Well, my budget is around $30, and I already have a $25 iTunes giftcard for her {I got one last year for Christmas, even though I don't have any way to use it.}

Right now, I want to get her --

â The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
â Some chocolate / candy {which is only around a dollar or two.}
â A "To Write Love on Her Arms" bracelet.
â Some Mayday Parade, NeverShoutNever, or Panic! at the Disco merch.

Based on the above, any ideas? (~:

Answer
Uhh, you're so lucky you have extra money for presents..... I actually feel SO SO SO bad that I can't give my best friend a present when she's getting me one. But, lol, uhm, here's a list based on the things I was thinking of getting my best friend.

-A scrapbook of our memories and inside jokes. (I thought this was really thoughtful, but I just realized, we barely even have any pictures together.)

-Leg warmers + a cute scarf

-A gift bag with a bunch of goodies. Here are some suggestions: Accessories from Forever 21 from anywhere affordable, chocolate, fuzzy socks and maybe some body sprays? Oh yeah, and stick that iTunes gift card in there too :)

-A crop top or hobo shirts which you can get for around $15 almost anywhere in your mall.

-If she likes to do her hair, get her hair products. I recommend the Remington Curling Wand from target, which is around $25.

-Those funny hats! You know, those winter hats with faces on them? Those are adorable!

-Those backpacks that looks like a stuffed animal you could get from Hot Topic

-If she likes to read, get her some of her favorite books.

Actually, you don't have to spend as much as $30 for a present, but it would be nice. Just remember, it's the thought that counts :)

I need a great birthday gift idea for male friend (age 30) who literally has everything. Ideas?

La Reina

Price is not relevant, but I do not want to spend too much money because he and I have not known each other very long. He's a business man and travels frequently.

Answer
I have always found that the best present for a man is a present for his toys.

Most guys LOVE their toys, electronic, car, boat whatever. Scope out his toys and see what they need. For his car/vehicle, a detailing certificate or a GPS system. For his phone or other electronic device, you could get one of those instant boost things that give power when the battery dies. If he has a lot of things that use batteries, you could get rechargeable batteries and a fast charger to go with it.

One of my former bosses had 2 loves, his horses and fine scotch. One year I got him an expensive bottle of scotch--one that he wouldn't spend the money on--and a very nice set of 2 glass tumblers. Another year I got ahold of his farrier and paid for the next visit for his horse shoes. And one time I gave him a masculine basket (leather covered) filled with manly care products like aftershave, cologne, razors, shaving cream, loofa, etc. He was always thrilled and said I always gave the best gifts.

Guys love gifts for their toys!

Are gift cards good idea for christmas?

Q.

Answer
Gift cards used to be a tacky kind of present, but nowadays it is a great gift. I gave friends and families various gift cards because they can always choose what they want. For example, one friend of mine (and her husband) go out to eat a lot and they don't have a lot of money, so I gave them a restaurant gift card. So, yes gift cards are good to give. I think most people like receiving gift cards.

What are some gift ideas for my husband for christmas?

Mrs. Campb

He hates Jewelery, and he has a car, He has a phone that he can play music thru, so he doesn't need an ipod. Whenever i ask what he thinks he would like, he doesnt know. He is someone who loves music and movies. But, he owns like every movie in this city. What do you guys think?
The guitar was a good idea but he has an electrical And acoustic...grr...he has too much.

Answer
Well, you are in the same predicament as me. Here is what I buy!! If he is a movie/music lover, then go with gift certificates for your local movie place or concert location. If there are upcoming concerts, get him tickets! If he is a sports guy, game tickets or season passes are great too!! If his phone plays music, you could get him the prepaid music cards too. Throw in a restaurant gift certificate, and you guys have a complete night out!! Hope that helps!!

Homemade gift ideas for friend?

shezskippi

My friend and I always buy each other a gift for holidays and birthdays but always make each other something too. Well I have run out of ideas. We've made cards, posters, and food. lol I just need some suggestions.

Its for a teenage girl who is interested in horses and twilight.

Answer
Have you looked at any of the on-line craft and sewing sites for ideas? Not to mention the arts sites! I highly recommend Etsy::Handmades, which has a huge variety (including quality and prices) of handmade items for sale, if you get stuck for time. If you have time, this site is excellent for ideas (be respectful of copyrights at all times -- it's only inspiration that's free. :-D )

So, anyway, here's just one set of ideas: make her a piece of jewelry. Buy some Fimo or Sculpey oven-bake plastic clay, and make a pendant in the shape of a horse, horse's head, or a motif or symbol from Twilight. (Or buy these style of pendants ready-made, if you have a commercial source for them.)

Then string it onto polyester or nylon thread, or on tiger-tail (superfine metal cable inside a plastic sleeve, very fine and strong), with beads in colors she likes, and finish off with crimped-on jumps-rings and a clasp.

Or make the pendant, and string it on a nice silver chain. You can make several pendants of the same design, and use a larger one for a necklace, and two smaller ones (maybe made in mirror-image of each other) for a pair of earrings. Additional ones can be made into hair ornaments, bracelets, ankle-bracelets, a ring, even non-jewelry things like mobile-phone charms, key-chains, or zipper pulls.

And I didn't even get into the sewing ideas....

Have fun!

Gift Ideas For Parents 25 Year Wedding Anniversary?

Bonz

Hey all,

My parents will be having their 25 year wedding anniversary next weekend. They are going to be having a big party to celebrate. The problem is that I live in Illinois, and they in California. I would like to give them the gift of me being there, but sadly doesn't look like that is able to happen. It's too short notice, and even if it wasn't, my fiance & I don't have that kind of extra cash right now. Soooo...I am in need of some ideas on something to do or get for them. I wouldn't say we are very close, as we have recently reconnected after not speaking for about 5 years, and are slowly rebuilding the relationship, but I would very much like to do *something* for them.

Ideas? Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks in advance!!

Answer
Hi,

The 25th year is a landmark anniversary - so, congratulations to you and your parents!

Thanks to online shopping, you can make sure they get a great gift even if you cannot be physically present with them.

Silver is the traditional and modern gift theme for the 25th wedding anniversary. So, a silver anniversary plate, with their names and the wedding date engraved on it could be a good idea

A personalized silver bracelet for mum - like this one here http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/hand-made-jewellery/eternity-personalised-bracelet.shtml - and a silver plated pen set for dad

Since you are reconnecting again after many years, how about making them a hand made card with a silver theme. Use silver ink, write what you feel for them, stick pictures from any times spent together from the past. This is the perfect occasion to strengthen bridges

A set of two funky wine glasses that carry a special message for mum and dad! http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/lolita-glasses/aged-to-perfection-wine.shtml

A dozen silver-plated roses, set of silver glasses, a silver box with a silver pendant from mum and a pair of silver cuff links for dad

Hope this helps!

hostess gift ideas???

Toadsputum

I have an interview scheduled for a doctoral program. 2 of the current graduate students (an engaged couple) offered to pick me up from the airport and let me stay at their home for 2 nights. I do not know them from a hole in the wall, but thought it would be nice to bring them a small thank-you gift. I would like to spend between $30-$50. I thought about a nice bottle of wine, but then my husband pointed out that they might not drink wine. The only thing that I know about the couple is that the woman enjoys cooking. Any ideas? Do you think that giving a gift is appropriate or weird?
I am from Long Island, NY traveling to Mississippi. If I purchased wine for them I would get it from a local winery. I would love to bring a gift basket, but worry that it would be difficult to transport.

Answer
I think a Gift would be appropriate and not weird at all

I think that something from NY would be better since it's an out of state gift that they can't just buy where they live.

I would get some small Local things to give them. Something that Says " NY" on it. Some Magnets, nick nacks, maybe something you like so it remind them of you.

You can Look up the Town that you're traveling into, and see what type of Resuarants are in the local area. This might spark some Ideas for some Gifts.
You could map quest their house to see what is around them locally.

Wine would be a Good Gift, because Even if they don't drink it, They might just put it out for show, a conversation starter, they could Regift it, and it's not too personal but shows you put some Effort into getting them something.

They might have Food allergies, or Flower Allergies so you would want to be careful if you get them a gift basket of food.

If she likes Cooking then you might search online to see of there is something that is Unique for cooking. Like an Extraordinary Apple Slicer or something that people don't see everyday.
Maybe a Good Muti recipe Cook book.

What about a Flavored Gourmet Popcorn selection? That's different.
Gourmet Coffee Flavors..... but that would be kinda weird if they hate Coffee, so maybe not.

Although, if you can't think of anything to get them from NY you might try this.
What if, you got there the first day and See what the house looked like to see what type of people they are. Then the second day you are staying with them, purchased something for them then you would have some Idea of their life style. Do they collect a certain thing or Love cows or something like that.

Good Luck

A DVD slideshow, which is filled with the graduateâs memories, is an optional gift idea for you.

College graduation gift ideas?

Q. My roommate and I are going to graduate from college this May and I have no idea what would be a good gift for her. I've know her since the seventh grade and she's been there for me ever since. So I really want to get her something good. She is going to be a high school teacher. Any ideas?
I know what she wants/needs... money, but I'm not just going to hand her cash. I want to get her something special.

Answer
Schedule a day together doing things you both enjoy. College graduates don't often have a lot of money to spend, so the quality time you spend will be more worth it. If you enjoy the spa, going to restaurants, etc. spend the day doing those things. You can pay for her when you go (e.g. spa) which would be your gift to her.

If you want to give her something specific, make her a scrapbook of pictures of you together (or a picture album if you don't do scrapbooks). You can go back as far as 7th grade or just include college pictures.

Best friend (guy) graduating college, homemade gift ideas?

phorkin37

He's graduating this year and going to law school. We're from different parts of the country so after he moves, we won't be seeing each other very often (at all) anymore. (I'm a girl). I was thinking about something I could make from a crafts store, like Michaels or A.C. Moore. I want it to be personal and touching. Maybe like some type of fabric poster that is scrap book style with things attached. Any ideas would be of help! I tried looking at pinterest and etsy but they didn't have anything for young adults and male best friends who are moving away. Thanks!

Answer
A piece of art for his wall, showing all the things he likes to do, pictures, show tickets, speeding ticket, picture of you, him and friends, pets, parks, eating out, theater, etc, Any items or pictures that would be fun to him
Remember, when he moves away he will be making other friends so don't put anything on it that would cause him to put it in the closet or under the bed later. Or worse yet, be embarrassing to him..

Gift idea for mother in law...?

I'm 21 and by boyfriend is 22 and we have a 10 month old baby boy. My boyfriends mother has gone above and beyond being a grandma to my son, she's really been there for us with money problems, when we need a sitter, when I was transitioning from maternity clothes to normal clothes and didnt have any, etc. etc. My family is there for me, but she really has just made me feel so welcome in theirs and I want to do something special for her but I'm not at all sure what would show her the thanks that I want to give her. I dont have alot of money, but I'm expecting my tax return soon and I'm willing to spend what I do have...any ideas?

Answer
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two and family would know about - include things about your pregancy and the baby. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and tons of baby pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

This is a really beautiful poem too!
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

The day she told me she was quitting, we both couldn't stop crying for hours and even talking about is making my eye filled with water so please please help me out finding a perfect gift that say everything i want to say before she leave.
Thank y all very much for taking the time to help
Iza

Answer
first off, i would take a collection from all coworkers, and get a cake, and go out for a farewell lunch if you are in a office setting.
Then with the rest of the money that is left, either get a gift card or a nice piece of jewelry.
That is what we always do for people who are leaving.

Boyfriend is leaving for Med School. NEED GIFT BASKET IDEAS!?

My boyfriend is leaving in a few weeks to go to Medical School and I want to give him a few things that he could use while he's there. I was thinking about doing a gift basket filled with various goodies and tools and scrub tops with his name on them (my aunt does embroidery). I just need some ideas on what I should include in this gift basket. Thanks for any input!

Mother's Birthday Gift Idea's ?

vampirelad

I'm 19 and I need help for my mothers birthday gift for tomorrow I'am seriously out of ideas of what to give her... and my brother said no flowers.. and plus cause i gave her flowers last year.. shes turning 38 by the way...so any suggestions?

Answer
Well, my mom always loves clothes, shoes, jewelry, gift cards to her favorite store. She also is a runner, so I get her running gear and apparel - so if your mom is into a sport or a hobby, get her something to go along with that.
Being 19 myself I don't have much money to spend, so you could try handmade stuff. Like, make her her favorite type of cake from scratch, or a home made dinner. Or you could take her out to eat, or take her to see a movie and pay for the dinner/tickets. You could try planning a picnic or a day out somewhere (Ex: one year i took my dad zip-lining, and this year we took him tubing in a river by a old German tourist town). Sometimes, you just have to be really creative about the presents if you can't think of anything.
Surprising my mom with a few balloons, streamers over her door, etc., always makes her appreciative.
Also, if she enjoys gardening, buy her a fruit tree or fruit bush or something. If you live by the beach you could invest in bachi ball.
If you notice something of hers that she uses frequently is getting worn down, you could buy a replacement for her as a present (ex: slippers, jeans, hair straightener).

Christmas Eve ideas 2012?

Ittabitta

For Christmas Eve each year, my sister (16) and I (13) put on a little performance. We sing, dance, and do little games. What is something game wise I could do that involves the whole family? We've already done Christmas trivia and family food and singing the twelve days of christmas (each person got a day). I was thinking of doing a Christmas A-Z and giving out prizes, but is that too boring? The age group is mostly adults. What are some songs I could dance to/ act out? Details please! And where can I find good, female, christmas monologues? Or you can make one up or just make up the main idea. Thanks!!
It's for a performance!

Answer
First game of the night: ahead of time make up index cards with a Christmas Sticker on them (all the same sticker except for one). Stick them in little envelopes and place them in a box or basket or something. As they arrive give each person one. The person with the different sticker gets a little door prize.

Other games:
A Christmas Themed Memory Game- we did this one and I swear to you the adults were more into it than the kids.

A Christmas Themed 20 questions game

Guess the Christmas song

Guess the Gift- Get a few gifts that can be for guy or girl. Wrap them up and put aside. Make sheets containing clues for gifts. Example: a travel cup. Clues might be: loves to be held, goes with you everywhere, gets kissed a lot...anything random or funny. First person to get it right gets the gift. Do a few of them.

The clothes pin game. Pick a word that deals with Christmas that is bound to come up at a Christmas party to be off limits. Example: tree. If you hear someone say tree you get to take their clothespin. Whoever collects the most at the end of the night gets a gift.

Guess the Christmas movie

Get a Christmas pinata and fill with Christmas candy

A Christmas Themed Scavenger Hunt

There are lots of things you could do! Have fun!!

Present for a 9 year old tomboy?

ILMBF.x

Hi, I need present ideas for my 9 year old cousin.. She's a tomboy so doesn't like anything girly. Thanks, x

Answer
If she loves sports, you can get her something like a basketball, soccer ball, or something like that and make a basket of it! So say her favorite sport was basketball, maybe you can get a basketball, basketball socks (nike long socks up to the knees), gatorade, maybe basketball shorts and a top, or anything with basketballs on it like a jacket or blanket or something like that! Its not too girly and its not a boy present! she will deff enjoy the gift! Im sure you will find something she likes, try this super easy gift and im sure she will love it. Just find out her favorite sport or maybe her favorite things like food, tv show, special characters, or something like that!

Cheap Christmas gift ideas?

Mama J.

I know that it is early, but I always like to shop early before the rush. I have three children to buy for whom are son six, daughter nine, daughter twelve, and a fourteen year old stepson... also my hubby, and we pick names from the rest of my extended family for each person in my household. Here are the characteristics of the people we picked: 3 teenage boys whom are my nephews, my 21 year old niece, four month old nephew (the easy one!), and my sister whom is in her early late forties.

Any ideas on how to save money this year, cheap gift ideas etc. would be appreciated greatly!

Birthday celebration and gift ideas?

Rosy

Hi,
It is my best friend's birthday next week and I want to surprise him. I don't want to have a surprise party because he doesn't like to be the center of attention and to avoid embarrassment. I just want him to have a good time and to make him feel special.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make his day special without too many people involved? Also, I do like him a lot which he knows. I am planning to bake him a birthday cake. Any more ideas?

Thanks.
I forgot to add, he is going to be 29.

Answer
Well since he is going to be 29 that means he is very mature and a surprise party probably won't be something he would like to much especially since he does not like being the center of attention. How about if you do something private with him. You could take him out to see a play that showing. (if he is into stuff like that) You could also take him to the beach or the river to go swimming and have lunch. You could invite a couple of his friends to go along with you guys and just spend the day together

As far as a gift is concerned you should try shooting for something homemade a fun. You could get a plain- tshirt and decorate it yourself with things he likes to say. You could make him a gift basket of his favorite candy, or make a mixed cd of songs he loves. Here are more homemade gift ideas you can check into for inspiration http://www.giftgrease.com/homemade-gifts.html You can also look at these birthday gift ideas to see if he may like something on this list http://www.giftgrease.com/birthday-gift-ideas.html This is all I have for now. Hope this helps. Good Luck gift-shopping.

What is a good Xmas gift idea for my girl friend?

Mr.Z

I been stressing about what to get my girlfriend. I want it to be thoughtfull and have that "awww" affect. I already did tiffany's so that is gone.
She likes volleyball
Ice cream
Swimming
She is a daddy's girl
Sweet
i am planing to spend 200-400... i know it sounds like a little much but yeah i dont mind.
Please any ideas will help

Answer
My personal favorite gifts are the ones where my husband takes me out to do something special rather than an actual gift. We both have so much "stuff" that time together is something I appreciate more. You could wow her with reservations at the nicest restaurant in town, or tickets to a concert/play/etc., and maybe a new outfit or special accessory for the occasion. Weekend or day trips are always nice too, but since you say she's a daddy's girl, daddy might not want her going out of town! lol. But anyways, I think a night to remember is always the best gift. It makes her feel special, that you'd spend that amount of money just to be with her doing something out of the ordinary. And it gives you two great memories too. You can do something different every year, or as often as you like, take lots of pictures, and one day hand her a memory book full of pics. Trust me, any girl would say "awww" to that! Good luck.

*******Addition:
Also, since she likes sports so much, a sporting event would be a good idea too. :-)

What are gift ideas to give for a wedding?

Olivia

My friend is getting married soon and I plan on gifting her for her bridal shower and wedding. I spent around 70 for her bridal gift. What should I give for the wedding. I am hoping to not spend as much for that gift. So that mean I want to avoid giving her cash or a gift card. Any ideas for affordable gifts?

Answer
I think a gift basket would be great. Pick a theme, like kitchen utensils, arrange them in a nice pitcher or a large bowl. Bathroom: soaps, washcloths, toothpaste, plunger, etc in a small trash can. Mostly, think of all the little things you forget about when you first move into your own place. Cleaning supplies, nails, spices! The personal touch will make it sweet, and the relief when they realize they don't have to run out to wal-mart for that little extra for dinner will make a great memory.

This is also an idea I came up with on my own, thinking it would be really cute if someone did it for my own wedding gift. If the couple's last name is also a brand name, buy a basket and fill it with those things. My soon to be name is Hines. So, we would get ketchup, mustard, nuts, Duncan Hines baked goods. Or you could do a similar thing with their first names.
Let us know how your gift turns out!!

Where can I buy a gift card for my friend in Brazil?

David M

I am in the US and my friend lives in Brazil, I want to buy him a gift card to a store that he can use there, like a clothing store or book store or even a Walmart. I've looked on a few various sites and I couldnt find anything that offers gift cards.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Answer
Lojas Americanas (a big department store all over Brazil) has gift cards:
http://www.americanas.com.br/estatica/vale-presente

But they ask for your CEP when you order--CEP is a zip code within Brazil.

The expression for gift card is "vale presente".

I'm not sure if you'll be able to order gift-cards, but you could order a book, CD, or DVD from a Brazilian store & have it delivered in Brazil. You have more luck ordering a gift to be delivered to your friend's house than ordering a gift card.

Good luck!

Wedding gift ideas for my boss?

Gabriella

Hello,
My boss invited me to his wedding and reception. I was just wondering what I should get him. I am eighteen years old, so I cannot get him any type of alcoholic beverages so do not suggest that. I work in a music/skate/clothing shop which he owns and manages. He is a very good boss who has very good business skills. I have no idea what to get him. I am not giving him money because that would basically just be giving him his own money back. Do you have any wedding gift ideas for my boss? Thank you!

Answer
A wedding gift is for the newly weds so something for their home would be a good gift.

If they were living together already they may have most things they need, but something like a set of nice glasses is always acceptable or maybe a serving plate or bowl.

Something that they will use in their home together is always good.

What are some good ideas for a holiday party?

Zoe G

I am planning a Holiday party for about 20-30 people, the ages are diverse, mostly adults that are 40 years and older, but some kids under 10 and a few teenagers. I need some good ideas that wont break the bank.

Answer
Each year, we have an "elephant" party. Everyone brings 1-2 inexpensive gifts-either serious or gag. We roll dice, and if you get a double, you choose. You can either choose from the pile, or steal from someone. The key is NOT to open the gifts until the game is over. At the end, when all of the gifts are gone, we have a 2 min. speed round--throw the dice, doubles, you steal...or pass if you don't get doubles. At the end, you open your gifts.

Truly hilarious, because people start stealing gifts and decide what they think they are....and of course, never are! We hit the dollar store, and the clearance bins. We've gotten great picture frames, boxes of candy, dominoes, umbrellas, calendars...but the best fun of all is just playing the game!

Planning for a big wedding in the future, any suggestions?

best wedding gift ideas 2013
on UNIQUE WEDDING FAVORS, FAVOURS, DOOR GIFTS, WEDDING GIFT, WEDDING ...
best wedding gift ideas 2013 image

CallmeVee

Hey everyone, for the record, I am a lesbian and I'd appreciate it if only OPEN MINDED people answer my question.
I'm about to be 24 next month, and my girlfriend is 25. We love each other very much and I've always been the type to plan ahead. I have a ton of reasons on why I do it.
Any how, my girlfriend wants a big wedding and so do I. Today I asked her what kind of ring she'd like, she said a platinum diamond ring. I looked at some online and it made me want to marry her tomorrow. lol Very beautiful. To sum this all up, we're not traditional people, I don't want my dad walking me down the isle, I also don't want our fathers paying for the wedding seeing that it will be two women getting married so it's not like, "So is your dad paying or mine?" and I doubt either of us will be wearing white. The reason I don't want them to pay is because she's going to be MY wife, which means I'm supposed to give her what she wants and give her the wedding she dreams about.
I plan on moving out the state for a higher paying job, just for a little while so I can save up thousands of dollars.
Now she and I have only talked so much about the wedding in the future, but I think of it everyday because I want to get started on saving now! I'm sure I'm gonna buy her a ring that's around 1 to 3 thousand dollars. Just like every woman, we want our wedding to be beautiful. What would be a good price range for a big beautiful wedding?

and FYI, no my girl is not a gold digger, nor is she money hungry. She's a true definition of Independent. She does everything on her own, she does SO-MUCH for everyone and doesn't like for anyone to do anything for her, not even me! So it'd be a blessing to give her the wedding she wants. We're high school sweethearts and I just want her to be happy.
Can you ladies (and gents) please give me some advice? I'd really appreciate it.

Answer
Firstly , from what I read & see the majority of couples getting married these days do pay for their own wedding.( at least in western cultures) So what you are considering is NOT unusual there.
AS to having your father walking you down the aisle- That is entirely your choice as well. Having him ''escort '' you down the aisle does not mean that he has ""to give you away"" during the ceremony.
I have been to weddings where the bride walked alone, with her mother, both parents, child, father & stepfather together or in tandem. with the groom & even with the ex husband :-) . Also I have seen stories where both parties have been escorted down the aisle by their parents.
When each of my nephews got married they included the wording "" Who brings this man to this marriage"" as part of the ceremony as well as "" Who brings this woman"" : notice the words were NOT ** who gives**

You can have a big wedding as in numbers without necessarily spending BIG $$$$. Having said this though you need to be creative, ask for / accept help from family & friends. Someone may be very artistic & would be delighted to make your invitations as a gift to you. Another person make be a great cake maker & thrilled to make your cake.

Think outside the square in regards to your outfits ; look at all sorts , not just ones called wedding dresses etc. I saw a picture of a magnificent citrus green dress recently.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1209407_10151871310189516_1132350750_n.jpg

What you both need to do is to sit down & work out an affordable budget for you & plan around that.
No -one else can tell you what a beautiful wedding is - as everyone has their own ideas about that.
Before you start sending out invitations to everyone you know - just so you have BIG numbers- stop & think about who is important in your life. Do you interact with ABC on a regular basis? would you ask DEF to your place to dinner? How long is it since you have seen Great Aunt Jo? Have these people been a significant part of your lives in recent years.Only ask the people who you really want to be with you to share your day, regardless of whether that only turns out to be 30 people or if it is 100.

Also consider do you want your celebration to be a relaxed event or something more formal.
How much would you like to actually interact with you guests on the day. The more people you have attending the harder that is to do.
Assume that everyone you invite will attend . Yes there will be some who for whatever reason wont be able to make it . BUT you don't invite 100 people when you can really only afford to cater for 80 & hope that at least 20 will say they cant come.
You may well decide that a relaxed cocktail party type of event will give you more of a chance to mingle than if you had a formal sit down dinner.
Have a look at the following site for some ideas:-

offbeatbride.com

http://offbeatbride.com/2013/09/seattle-burlesque-wedding
http://offbeatbride.com/filed/real-weddings/global
http://offbeatbride.com/2013/08/massachusetts-camp-wedding
http://offbeatbride.com/2013/07/georgia-games-wedding

I have included some links to some specific pages , just for you to see quickly how diverse weddings can be,
Look through the archives section as well.

Keep in mind that your wedding should be a reflection of who you & your partner are - NOT someone else's idea of what a wedding should be.

The things I have said here are what I would say to my own kids - all of whom are now adults.

Also in regards to rings - don't just look at the $$$ for the ring ; look first at styles that your partner likes & something that she is going to be happy wearing. If you find something that she absolutely loves & it is only $500 , then that is what you get. There may be one sitting beside it that is priced at $5000- but she does not like it - so forget that one. The $$$ value is not important .

I hope that I have given you some things to think about & GOOD LUCK with your plans.

1year wedding anniversary in British Columbia?

mom

So my husband and I just got married this past July, and we had a small weekend for ourselves, and we are really wanting to have a really good 1 year anniversary, and were thinking of going to British Columbia since we live in Portland Oregon. The thing is that neither of us know anything about B.C and would love to know some places that are very beautiful, have some fun things to do, and good food.

We love the outdoors, exploring, trying new things, new food, we like the city too, but if you recommend a city, I would love for it to be a city with a glorious view. We're very open people! What should we do? =D We have 10 months to save up!

Thank you!

Answer
First, congratulations. I hope you have many more years of planning anniversaries!

The traditional wedding gift for a 1st year anniversary is "paper", and the modern gift is usually "clocks" according to Hallmark's chart of anniversary gift ideas. Keeping that in mind, I would tend to be the traditionalist and a "paper" idea would be tickets (by plane or by train) to British Columbia, if that's what you are considering.

The area is one of Canada's great natural beauties, whether it's riding a cruise ship or ferry up the coast, taking a train through the Rockies, touring a redwood forest, or relaxing at a hotel in Vancouver and enjoying local cuisine.

From a weather perspective, you won't find it much of a difference in July in southern BC compared to Oregon.

Culture wise, Canadians are typically very friendly, the cities are all very safe, even after dark. Although you can still be a victim of crime if you are not paying attention to your surroundings. Just because Canadians don't have the gun culture that is prevalent in USA does not mean that there are no muggers, pickpockets, con-artists, and angry drunks around. It's just really rare.

I don't know how much you are considering spending on this trip to Canada, but here are a couple of ideas.

1) Consider taking the train to Vancouver. The Amtrak Cascades train leaves Portland daily and passes north through Tacoma, Seattle, Bellingham, and finally across the border into Canada for its final stop in Vancouver, BC. The 2013 pricing shows a round trip ticket will cost you between $150-200 per person. It saves you a long drive, and lets you relax and just enjoy the experience. In Vancouver, the public transit is safe and convenient, so you would not need a car (saves on parking), or you could always rent one if you wanted to head out to the countryside and visit the redwood forest, or take a trip to an Okanagan Valley vineyard.

2) Once in Vancouver (BC), you can book a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer tourist train. It's a bit expensive per person, but takes you through some of Canada's most breathtaking scenery. I hear that there is also now the Coastal Passage train that starts in Seattle and ends in Banff, Alberta.
http://www.rockymountaineer.com/en_CA/routes_and_packages/canadian_rocky/circle_rail_packages

I think you will enjoy your visit, and I hope you choose to join us. In case you do, take a look at the HelloBC website below. It may offer you some ideas as to what you can do up in Canada and in the BC area in general.

Any ideas for Christmas gifts for my 5 year old niece?? She is a total girlie girl, likes makeup, clothes stuff like that? Best idea gets 10pts!

Answer
Get her the Posh princess necklace with a birthstone. You can have her name engraved on it. Little kids love anything with their name on it. And unlike most gifts, this one should last forever and won't wear out or she won't get bored with it! http://stores.jewelryninja.com/-strse-Collections-cln-Posh-Kids/Categories.bok

What is a good gift from new baby to big brother?

Another On

i have 2 kids. 7 year old boy and 5 year old girl. the 1st time around being so little himself my son really didn't know or understand he was getting a sister so didn't do any gifts per say. he got a big brother t-shirt and grandma took him to the gift shop to pick out a stuffy for her.

this time they both fully understand so i wanted to do something extra special besides the "big brother/sister" shirts. i got best friend necklaces for baby and big sister and i know she will love it but i am stumped on what to do for my son, plus extra pressure to make it someting good because he is still bummed he is stuck with another sister instead of getting the brother he really wanted. maybe it's stupid i was just thinking this gift idea might help get thier relationship off to a good start and get him to like her better.

1year wedding anniversary in British Columbia?

I think you will enjoy your visit, and I hope you choose to join us. In case you do, take a look at the HelloBC website below. It may offer you some ideas as to what you can do up in Canada and in the BC area in general.

What's a good present for an engagement party in NYC?

oIiIo

We will be at a very nice italian restaurant where the place is realistically fit for having weddings. There is no registry and I'm invited with a guest. The grooms cousin (I know his family as well) just had an engagement party this weekend and it looked like a wedding itself. This is my good friend who's marrying into a fairly well off Italian family. Not sure if I should give money to cover my bf and I plates like a wedding. She told me nothing for the house, that she'll worry about that for the shower and really idk! Money? Wine? Nice picture frames? What to do? I want it to be special and/ or practical. Anything that's too much of a household item is really for the shower. I either would
Like to do money or something personal. I feel engagement party is sentimental stuff. I've seen people often give money, picture frames, Swarovski crystal items. What would u do? This is a very good friend from childhood.. About 16-17 yrs we've been friends now.

Answer
People on here will tell you that an engagement party is not a gift giving event, but clearly in your area (as well as mine), it is. I wouldn't dream of going to an event empty-handed in any case. I would buy a gift, I wouldn't give cash. I would save the cash for the wedding gift. Here are some ideas:

Q. I am seventeen, i grew up kinda isolated from babies, and now i have a pregnant friend, shes due in october, She's hving a boy names Brylee Ryan. I am very excited, just confused on gift ideas, I'm unique.

Answer
Ask her if she has a baby registry and get her something that she wants/needs from there. Otherwise, cute baby boy clothes is always welcome.

What would be a unique baby shower gift?

Q. Last year at my baby shower my best friend gave me a gift certificate for a photographer to come to my house and take pictures of my newborn baby. This was an amazing and original gift idea. This year she is pregnant and with her baby shower approaching I am stumped! Any ideas of what I can do for her?? It would be cheesy to give her the same thing right?

Answer
How about giving her a digital photo frame? If she does not get a photographer gift she'll probably pay a baby photo session herself since she seems to like this kind of gift. By giving her a digital photo frame she has the possibility to view and display all her baby photos all the time.

You could also make her a homemade gift like a baby time capsule - if you have the time, that is:

I have more gift ideas at my website Best Baby Gifts, feel free to browse.

Good luck!
