Does anyone have any good ideas for great gifts from California?

Q. We want to send gifts to our PR agency in India and I don't want to bring California wine again. Thanks!

A. Try doing a little sleuthing and see what residents in India are like, what they admire, who they admire, what they might want they don't have or cannot get, etc.

I think some thing about the history and/or culture of CA, about it's diversity and accomplishments.

American travelling to Hyderabad India for a Hindu wedding - what are the customs?
Q. Specifically, what gifts are appropriate for a friend? Is it appropriate to kiss the bride, tell her how nice she looks, same with groom's family? ...as I would do at a local wedding. Anything that is considered insulting that I would think normal?
It is Hindu wedding. I understand cash is good, so looking for other ideas as well.

A. Dress Code:
Avoid pure White and Black colors. For some, Black is inauspicious and for some white is inauspicious.
Wear a Saree/Chutidhar if you are interested in trying Indian costume. Have an alternate and comfortable dress handy. You can wear American Formal clothes as well. Don't wear clothes that shows thighs/clevage.
Don't wear shoes if you want to stand near the bride/bride groom. Take the socks that you can wear with Sandals/Flip flops and use it if you are not comfortable standing with naked feet.

Wear Trousers/Shirts if you are a guy. No shorts please.

For Greetings:
- No Kissing
- It is ok to hug the girl if you are a girl.
- it is ok to hug the man if you are a man.
- Shaking hands with either the girl or the man is ok.
- You can tell them how they look (nice words only please)
- Don't ask questions like why they do this, what's the purpose behind that? (probably they don't know; You can ask when you chat them with later watching their Wedding DVD's )

Gift:
Are the persons getting married and return to America after their wedding?
- if yes, give them a gift card from a store they can use in America. (not a book store card, unless that person you know love reading books and listen to World music).
Other ideas:
- Anything that can be displayed
- Cash is good as well. Min amount is INR 1000/-
- Pure silver materials (you find them in Indian jewellery shop)
- Gold Rings (again from Indian Jewellery shop)
- Anything usable like Kitchen Collection/Dining Collection
- Flower Bouquets

How to transfer money to Dubai from India for personal use?
Q. I would like to transfer 5 lakhs to Dubai. I checked with bank they allow maximum US$ 5000 one time in a year as a gift. Is there any other way to transfer the money? Please help

A. Dear Mr. Tejas,

Your Bankers are right in informing you that you can give only USD 5,000 per year as a gift to any person residing Abroad.

But if you are sending the amount for any business purpose ( say buying some product / s ) then you can send any amount. But you have to provide the " Proforma Invoice " to bank.

You can also send money to a person for his Education purpose, for which you have to send the College demand notice for fee. Similarly Medical expenses also.

If the reason is genuine, then you can approach the Reserve Bank of India and can get the permission.

I do not know " other " way to send money Abroad. " Other " people may give you good ideas.

Good luck.

I am attending a wedding in Malaysia during the Holidays; what should I give them as a gift?
Q. The bride is Chinese and the groom is from India but they both live in Malaysia. They are having two different ceremonies is honor of their religions. Any gift ideas???????

A. Cash is a traditional gift in Asian countries. I would stick some cash in a red envelope and give it to them at the wedding. Putting cash in a red envelope is traditional for the Chinese.

Remember, also, that four is an unlucky number, anything but four items is good, eight is ok, too. White is a symbol of death, as are picture frames, knives and clocks.
