Can anyone recommend a good Vintage Port for a wedding gift?

Q. I want to give this as a wedding gift they can drink on their 10th or 20th anniversary. Every wine site I read is trying to sell their inventory and every description boasts how great this particular wine is. Anyone here have experience in this department? Something under $70 as it is not the only gift I am giving. Thank you!

A. According to my port-loving husband, you can't go wrong with a Warre's, Dow's, or Taylor Fladgate, vintage '86 or '91. They are drinkable now, but will continue to age nicely for the next couple decades at least. The Dow's '86 can be found for $65-$75, if you scout around. The '91 would be a bit cheaper, but not much, so I'd get the '86 if you can.

What a wonderful gift idea -- I'm sure they'll love it.

Can you please provide me with some gift ideas to celebrate my girlfriend's mother belated 65th birthday?
Q. We want to do something different and creative and not just play to her hobbies. After a while the same gifts giving ideas get boring.

A. Does she like to get pedicures or massages? Certificate to a restaurant?

What are some creative, original, homemade gifts that I can make for Christmas??
Q. I am looking for some creative and original gifts that I can make here from home to give to my relatives and friends. I need gift ideas for my grandma, my brother who is 27, my sister who is 23, my mom and dad. If you have any ideas they are welcome. And, if you have a website that you got it from that would be even better. Thank you so much.
Note: I am only 13 years old but can sew, knit, and crochet things.

A. I went to a bead store yesterday, and saw some small clutch evening purses that had been hand beaded. They were really pretty. The design was not complicated, and they were all multi-colored.
The price tag was $65. Craft stores carry the frame and the material as a kit for the purses.
I used my browser, and typed in craft purses, and there were many. I went to Biz rate, they had several frames.
You could make them in any color, black, gold, red, or the multi I saw.
I do not know of many craft projects for men, just hand embroidered handkerchiefs, or a golf towel, or stamped golf balls.

What should I put in my Grandma's christmas gift basket?
Q. Me and my cousin are fourteen and are planning to make our grandma a christmas gift basket.
We've already thought of candles, bath and body things and perfume but can you think of anything else?

Thankyou:)

A. I like the idea of adding a framed pictures of you or your family.

Does your grandma do her own cooking?

If she does you could mix up different homemade mixes and put them in small canning jars tied with ribbon.

What is a good brithday present you can buy at Walgreens? How much?

Q. What is a good brithday present you can buy at Walgreens? How much?
And it has to be big enough so I can carry it home with my books and backpack. Its a 30 minute walk from school to walgreens, then its a 40 min. walk back home.
My moms brithday is on Monday, so I'm going to buy her a surpise present monday =) (where i live theirs no shops or malls so it had to be from walgreens.)
or mabye even the thirf store, but thats farther.
Thanks.(My moms turning 46)

A. Walgreens wouldn't be my first choice for a birthday present, but I think you could come up with something. They have a lot more gift items in now because of the holidays.

Perfume sounds like a nice idea, but in reality it's really hard to buy for someone else, especially when you're looking for something cheap. Maybe better to go for something like bath soaps or something.

You can buy a box of assorted chocolates. That's a good go-to gift in a pinch.

Since you say there aren't stores around you, I'm guessing you live in a small town or something? Someplace where people are more likely to be friendly and helpful? I ask because your best bet may be to ask one of the employees at Walgreens to help you. They'll have a good idea of the sort of things that are in the store, and you may even find a woman your mom's age who can advise you.

Good House / Bad House... I want to buy this house but it needs major work. What would you do?
Q. Good House -
1.)It's old - mid 1800's & I love that fact.
2.)It's big - 3500 sq feet & we need big.
3.)It's cheep - less than $40,000
4.)It has a large Yard - 1 &1/2 acre

Bad house -
1.) the intire house needs work - basically we are buying the shell & bare studs. Some of the rooms up stair have been redone.
2.) not livable at this time.
3.) really far from family & jobs - about an hour with good driving conditions.

I'm all excited but I'm not sure if this is as great of an idea as I want it to be.

A. I have been restoring for over 30 yrs. I've regretted it many times, but can't think of anything better when I look back to see how far I've come. Things to think about, besides what the previous post said.
1. how much time are you willing to give? How much are you willing to give up??? As in social life, educational opportunites, sports, etc.
2. How committed are you to compleating a dream? You must be completely clear in how much this means to you AND whomever else is in your life. It's terribly romantic to think about the two of you starting life in this great old house, but it must be equally wanted by both of you. It doesn't work if one of you is a workhorse and the other just wants the hammock on Sat. Try working together on another project. If you don't have a home of your own, volunteer on someone else's.
3. Are you time oriented or task oriented? Is it more important for you to finish what you start before you knock off, or to stop so you can fix dinner because it is 6:00 o'clock and the news is on?
4. Do you have any allergies to dust? If you are living in this while working on it, you will be letting a lot of house work slide, because it will be more important to do something else like scrape paint or wallpaper, relay pipe or A/C ducts, or complete the bath framing.
5. Do you have skills in this? Are there people you can call in an emergency to help you out? How much support can you count on from others when you get in trouble? How resourceful are you? HOw good are you at making do? If you are a woman, how will you react to a drill, sander or pipe wrench for a birthday gift?
6. What is your financial resourcefullness? How creative are you at finding and using money?
These houses go cheaply because they are not technologically current. You will have to have the financial resources to upgrade them. Make sure you have at least enough cash to replace the electrical wiring, making it superior to code minimum. That should be item #3, after a good roof #1 and strong foundation #2. Plumbing is #4. Anything cosmetic should take a second seat. And NEVER paint anything until you have scraped, spackled, sanded and primed first.

All this being said, if you have examined your soul and still feel this is the right move, go to oldhouses.com and read the old house blogs. Many restorers have kept running documents on their houses and their experiences. Read these through thoroughly, and be aware that some people will write with an ear to their audience, glossing over what the real difficulties are. Contact me off line if you need more info.

What do you get the woman who has almost everything?
Q. My sister is turning 40 and I can't think of the just right gift for her. She is married and they are financially very comfortable and she is able to buy pretty much whatever she wants and does. I however am on a pretty small budget but want to get her something special. I have already over done the coupons, massages, scrapbooks, baby sitting offers, etc. I am stumped. Her husband is throwing her a huge surprise party which I am helping organize but when it comes to the gift I am at a loss. If anyone can provide some ideas or inspiration I would be so grateful.

A. Since it is her 40th Birthday why not a over the hill gag gift?
Just an idea...

What should we give a 40 year old women for her Birthday present?
Q. We have a friend/colleague who is turning 40. What would be a nice gift to give her? Thanks for any ideas. (I'm terrible at giving gifts and usually give money, however in this case money is not appropriate.)
Please vote on this tie-breaker:

A. The group can pool your money together and give her a gift card to a restaurant. Give enough for her to take her husband if married and if not she can take someone special. Or a gift card to a department store. Just don't give an over the hill prank gift. Forty is a difficult age for some people and she may be having a hard time with her age at this point.

What can I get my family for Christmas - little brother and dad especially?

Q. I was thinking of going homemade this year. I personally think these are the best gifts( next to electronices - lol), and have a sentimental value. For my mom I was thinking of a beautiful hand-made clay pot I made in art class, and a homemade beauty with bath scrubs, home remedies, molded soap and cute things like that. What I'm really stumped on is gifts for my little brother and dad. Last year, I got my lil bro a spy kit, and my dad - a cool wood project. This year, I'm not really sure what to get them. I was thinking of doing a little scavenger hunt made out of origami(he's a huge fan next to me) gift boxes with coupons, trinkets, and clues leading to the actual gift for my lil bro( 7) . The problem is, I don't know what to do for the actual gift. As for my dad, I am totally stumped. What are some good inexpensive gift ideas? Thx and 10 points for best answer!

What are some good homemade Christmas gifts?
Q. I'm running low on money this year, so I decided to try and make gifts for people. I'm looking for gift ideas for my friends and my mom and dad. I'm 15 so it can't be anything to childish, but it has to be something I can actually do by Christmas. Any ideas?
Thanks!

A. Make a laminated bookmark: find pictures or photos that they would like - animals, sports, flowers, favorite band, hearts, cars, pictures of family or you two - it can be a few small pics or just one, glue it to construction paper (you can make it two-sided), make sure you know how wide you want it to be before you start with the glue, then take it to Staples/Office Max, Office Depot or a store like that and get it laminated, then cut it. After hole-punch the top and put a ribbon or twine of some kind through the hole and tie it in a knot.

Make a 'love jar' and fill it with origami hearts, flowers and slips of paper with notes of appreciation written on them or 'I love you' written in different languages (on the back write which language it is).

Say I love you in different languages

Use an empty jar or soup can to make a pen/pencil holders - take the label off and wrap them in fabric or colored paper and decorate them with pictures the two of you or other pictures they would like.

How do you get into the holidays without spending oodles of money?
Q. Just don't feel it this year, seems like a lot of work. I have a large family so that isn't the problem. I just get so tired of it being about how much money we can all spend and then we just fight about it later. I want to enjoy it for my kids and grandkids but I need reasons this year to even bother putting up the stupid tree. Any ideas?

A. Our family is very large as well and last year many of the people in our family were dealing with cut backs at work, layoffs, and even a few had been let go. So in an effort to save money we started a new tradition, we call it an elephant swap. Everyone takes something that they have at home that is in decent condition and we wrap it in newspaper. Then on Christmas we put everyone's name in a hat and we pull names and pick gifts one at a time from under the tree. It makes it exciting as you don't know what gift you have recieved, and opening the gifts are lots of laughs! Last year my grandfather picked a barbie from my 3 year old niece. It was very amusing non the less and everyone left with something, whether it was age appropriate or not.

Is it inappropriate to throw yourself a baby shower?
Q. Having my second child in 9 weeks.. Large family on both sides but never got a baby shower with my first child. Not doing it for the gifts just want the experience and no one has stepped forward to do it. I just moved to the state so I dont have many friends here that would do something like this.
Is it inappropriate to throw one for myself.. should I just get over the idea of having one.

A. Sorry, but it is inappropriate to throw yourself a shower. It makes you look like you're begging for gifts even if you aren't.

Christmas gift for brother in law and his girlfriend?
Q. Hello, I am trying to think of Christmas gift ideas for my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. They have been together for a long time and although they live with my mother-in-law, they have their own "apartment" upstairs on the second floor of the house. They are planning on moving out soon, into their first place of their own, so I want to get them something that they can use in their "apartment" now, but can also bring to their new home when they get one in a few years. Any ideas?

A. Hey, Kellie! That's a good idea ... gifts that can be used for a while are smart.

If you are looking for something that is just fun, the Nintendo Wii is extremely popular, and not as expensive as you might think ... this one comes with Wii Sports for free: http://amzn.to/NintendoWiiwithWiiSports

Or if you want something more useful, a crock pot like this Cuisinart Programmable Slow Cooker would be great for a busy couple: http://amzn.to/CuisinartSlowCooker

Or, an ice cream machine like this Cuisinart Automatic Ice Cream Maker is both fun AND useful: http://amzn.to/CuisinartIceCreamMaker

Good luck! And please let me know if you would like more ideas!

What are some gift ideas for a greek family i'm visiting?
Q. I've never met them before.. what gifts from the US should i buy them? there's a young boy (age 8?), middle aged mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, teenage sister (13), teenage brother (15), brother and sister in their 20s? what are some things greek people like from the US? I'm from los angeles CA. some gift ideas would be great!

A. Don't take individual presents - just the kids if you really MUST! When you arrive in Greece - get them flowers or plant and a gateaux from the local patisserie. You can always send the kids something from US at a later date when you know them better. Sometimes giving Greek families presents can be quite upsetting as many do not show the emotions that we foreigners are used to. Believe me ... best to stick with the normal gifts of plant / gateaux. Been there - done that!

I'll be going to meet my girls family in the philippines, need gift Ideas?
Q. I need Gift ideas for her Mother and Father, and her little brother and little sister.
Sister is 17 (still in high school)
Brother is 18-19 (Bible school)

I just cant think of anything to bring for them all, I though of some misc candies from america.. but what other american items would they really like?

A. chocolates are always popular.

many filipino women appreciate the scents of victoria's secret colognes and lotions. also, those refrigerator magnets that depict the country from where they came from, like in the shape of that country, or its flag, or whatever -- you know, souvenir stuff.

basically, filipinos are very grateful people. you can bring them anything and they'll appreciate it, just knowing it's from another country.

hope this helps

What do you think of these gift ideas?

Q. I'm horrible at picking out gifts for people. For my gf's sisters and their families I gave them all fleece throws with their names on them. They're both young couples with a one yr old boy and one also has a girl who's also seven. The seven year old and one of the boys have a bday at the end of the month so I'm also giving them a separate card with a toys r us gift card.

A. First of all, I think it is lovely you are picking out gitfs for your girlfriends family.
A lot of people wouldn't bother.

I think the gifts you have chosen sound lovely, practical but personal too
since you have had their name put on them. I am sure they will appreciate them!

Merry Christmas

What should I get My boyfriend for our 2year Anniversary?
Q. We met in high school and has been thru quite a bit in the two years we have been together. We are eachothers first everything. By that i mean introduction of parent meeting, first love, and longest relationship and counting. Thats good for young couples.

Well besides that we are young and love to have fun and we might go bowling. We agreed not to exchange gifts but i want to get him something and surprise him before we go out that, night. Knowing him he will do the same but I want to beat him to it.

I need ideas on what to get him tho. He is not picky or materialistic so anything will do. I perfer something small because Christmas id a week after and his birthday the week after that.

HELP PLEASE

A. You can invite him out on a quick vacation. Last time I did it we spent it on VA beach at sandy bay apartments. An extra time to be with him will be highly appreciated. You can get to do things together to add on your lists of happy memories. Because as you said, he is not picky nor materialistic, I believe he will like and love what you give for him because it came from you and he loves you.

Can anyone help with Christmas gift basket ideas?
Q. So money is a little tight this year and I though a great gift idea for my mom and sister would be a gift basket. I would like it to have a Christmas/winter theme. But I need ideas for items to put in it. I was thinking of homemade hot chocolate mix, a coffee mug, some super comfy socks. maybe some homemade cookies or even cookie mix in a jar. What are some other ideas? Thanks so much to all those who reply!

A. Dish cloths and dish towels are always appreciated! Also, a seasonal scent of antibacterial hand cream from Bath and Body Works is nice- something you don't really buy yourself, but would love to receive- nice to keep in your purse. Seasonal hand soap for the bathroom, again, something you probably don't buy for yourself, but would love to have!

What can a 2 year old make (or help make) as a gift for family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc)?
Q. I'm trying to think of gift ideas for my 2 year old to make or help make for her grandparents and aunts and uncles. I don't want anything like coloring a picture or anything like that (we've done that so many times already!) I'm looking for unique and creative ideas, preferably ones that are fairly inexpensive. Thanks in advance! :)

A. I'm planning on making snow globes with my kids and they are 2 and 3 1/2 years old.
Materials
Glass Baby Food Jar & Lid
Glitter
Baby Oil
Small Figurines (about 1-1.5 inches tall)
Glue
The instructions are on this website (along with other craft ideas)
http://www.babybumpdiaries.com/how-to/easy-toddlers-christmas-crafts/

Another idea I found and want to try are fruit loop sand decoration vase:
-You take a box of fruit loops and separate the colors and then put each colors in a bag and crush them into sand
-then get a nice looking vase or glass container with a lid, and pour the different color of fruit loop sand in.

Pine cone decoration (also on the website I listed above)
-put glue all over pine cone then sparkles!
-tie ribbon or string to top

hot chocolate ice cream cones (I saw this on Oprah a few years ago)
-take one of those triangle shaped cake decorating bags and put hot chocolate powder in to look like the cone part, then mini marshmallows for the ice cream part and chocolate chips for sprinkles, tie the top up with ribbon

hope that helps!! Good luck!!!

What should I give and do for our 1st year anniversary?
Q. I've been with my bf for almost a year. We're both 19 about to turn 20 soon. What's a creative way to celebrate our love? Any gift ideas? I just wanted some opinions. I was thinking of getting heart shaped post it notes, and put it in a jar. 12 post it notes would represent 12 months of us being together with 12 things that I love most about him. Is this a good idea? Where should we go/do?

A. Bake him 12 cookies...

What to get my 16 year old boyfriend for christmas?

Q. Me and my boyfriend, Tyler have been together since January 13, 2012.
Hes 16, im 15.
Im not sure what i want or should get him for Christmas.
So far i thought about getting some time of matching bracelets, either leather or rubber wrist bands, with each others name etched into it.
For his birthday i got him a John Deere belt buckle and belt.
He's a country boy. He owns 6 horses and were both very active in the FFA and Agricultural classes in our school.
I dont know what else to get him for Christmas! Please help. I have a budget of 100$ at the most.
Dont say sex or anything like that. He already gets that. (we lost our virginity together)

A. https://www.ffa.org/shopffa/Pages/index.html There's the link the the FFA store (haha I was the President of my chapter in HS... I practically lived on that site that year ordering our supplies and stuff).

They have a bunch of stuff on there, from T-shirts and hoodies, hats, blankets, wallets, a ton of stuff. It's usually pretty fairly priced.

If he's into hunting, guys go crazy for camo.. maybe a camo jacket or something from Cabela's or Bass Pro? can't go wrong with a gift card from either of those places either, but I know that sometimes seems a little lame. I did that for my boyfriend our first Christmas together and he wound up getting a jacket that he wears all the time. Every time he wears it I joke what a great gift I got him that year haha.

Guys are always such a pain to shop for... This is my 4th Christmas with my boyfriend and I still don't have any idea what to get him. So sad to say, it doesn't get much better!

I usually wind up getting him a gift card and a t-shirt or hoodie every year for his birthday... But Christmas is way harder. Got him seat covers last year and he figured it out 2 days after I ordered them haha.

Hope those ideas help! Good luck! :)

8. Environment: Ace of Cups
9. Hopes and fear: 6 of cups
10. Outcome: 3 of Swords

The cards are not looking positive to me. The outcome made me worried. What do you think about them?
Thanks in advance!
oh by the way, it is rider waite.

A. It's a nice clear reading actually. I shouldn't worry unduly about the coming year because even if bad stuff happens, there's nothing in this reading that suggests long-term damage (even if it may seem so a the time!).

Ace of Swords. Well that card is about as aspirational as you can get. You've started with high hopes and a go getting attitude!

Justice: Are you feeling like there's unfair treatment? Too early to say, but this could ether mean difference of opinion OR you get smacked in the arse by a bit of your own bad Karma....let's see.

Five of Swords: You feel/will feel you are left with all the work. You feel overburdened or let down. Left propping up other people's big ideas. (I use swords as Air/thought cards and Wands as Fire/passion, you might do the opposite)

Hermit: Ah...I keep getting him for some reason! For me, he's someone who has learned all they need to know but has withdrawn from the outside world. He shares his knowledge only with those who deserve it. On a less intellectual level....
Perhaps you've been neglecting your social calendar?

Knight of Swords reverse. The right way up he's a total yuppie isn't he? He's got a good education and a sharp mind. For me he rides alongide the Chariot card! Sometimes he can be a bit TOO confident.
You aren't quite confident enough in your carreer, even if you are fine with other aspects of your life.

Death: Well it IS New Year. There's always a change in atmosphere around the first few weeks back at work after New Year and Christmas. This is simply a new-year resolution card. Out with the old, in with the new!

Ace of Pentacles reverse. I must admit. This card doen't usually crop up for me so I don't get a chance to analyse it much. Google search that and see what you think? I reckon in this case, it's letting you know to use your own gifts to get you out of an awkward situation. This is something you can (and should) fix buy yourself, with the emotional support of others. (As always, never deny yourself emotional support even if you tackle physical issues alone!)

8 of cups. Don't put all your eggs in one basket BUT remember that you don't have do do everything by yourself ALL the time if you've set up the project right in the first place. You can have good things in abundance. You DO have a supportive environment.

6 of cups. Now we're back to "Ace of Swords" aspirations but on a more emotional level. You worry you can't find a good balance of good things and hard work. You seek fairness and stability, not fast cars and flashy stuff.
Good for you. Just look to your "Hermit" side now and then to help you with this.

3 of swords. I have NEVER seen this card as a symbol of grief, heartbreak or anything so bad. It's a common interpetation but I don't get that response. It puts me in mind of the stuff you draw in your mathsbook. Hearts and arrows and handsome boys surnames twinned with mine! It's a passionate card, for pleasure or for pain. It represents raw feeling.
It's a card to remind you to think with your heart AND your head or you will get hurt.
That's all. It's nothing sinister!

Need gift ideas for my Japanese host family?

Q. Hi. I'm going to be studying in Japan for a year and I need some gift ideas for my host family. I'm from San Diego and I'll be leaving early September. The family members consist of just the husband and wife. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A. Give them a Richard in a box.

What should I buy my friend for Christmas?
Q. She is my best friend and has been for many years. I'm going to be leaving very soon though (enlisted) and wont be seeing her for a long time. I wanted to get her something special. I was thinking maybe an iPod or something. I don't feel like giving her a gift card since that doesn't really feel like a gift. Any ideas?

Things about her:
She's half japanese and half white.
She has a car.
She loves music (although her taste differs from mine so I can't specify what type exactly.)
Is a college student.
Likes reading, but not as much as I do.
She plays the guitar, but I don't think she's touched hers for awhile.
Loves seeing movies.
And that's about all I can think of at the moment..
lol. We always go to the movies though. It would just be like any other day really.

A. I think a Ipod is a great idea! How about a Ipod with a engraving..?

Gift Ideas for a Japanese Teacher who is Leaving?
Q. So I have a Japanese teacher I've had for a long time and she's leaving the school, so I'd love some ideas to give her a small gift as she leaves. Thank you in advance!

A. It should be something to do with her subject. Since she teaches Japanese, maybe something related to Japanese culture, like a Kokeshi Doll. And you should write her a note or card in Japanese, show her what you've learned in her class.

What to get my Best Friend for her birthday?

Q. My best friend's birthday is coming up soon, and i have no idea what to get her. I have between $30-$50 to spend (in high school, and jobless) she is turning 17. I was thinking maybe so lotion and a stuffed monkey (she likes monkeys) any ideas...oh she has a bf so taking her anywhere is more than likely not going to happen :(

A. Gift card man! I love the gift card! Wheres her fav place to shop? Hollister, American Co., La Senza?

Do I buy his Mom a Birthday Present?
Q. I have gone out with a guy for the past three weekends. He asked me last week to go to his Mom's surprise 50th birthday party. My parents know his mom, and will also be attending. But should I still get her something especially from me, or just go in on my parents gift to her? I don't know her all that well yet, so if you think I should get her something...if you have any ideas as to what?! I really appreciate all your help!

A. ask your mother - she can probably give you good insight

I would say that it would be perfectly acceptable for you to take either option, but if you go in on your parents gift make sure that you do more than write your name on the card - at least say "happy birthday!" before you sign

if you want to bring your own present, by all means do it, don't go crazy though, you don't know her well, so a $5-10 is probably just fine, ask your mother or the man you've been seeing if there is anything in particular that would be good - or that would be really really bad :)

the one option you don't mention, and i'm glad you aren't considering it, is to go in on his present to his mom - it is too soon in your dating history to do something like that, even if he would be okay with it, his mother might be a bit put off.

have fun, and don't over think it too much - either way you go will be fine :)

Any ideas for centerpieces at a 50th birthday party?
Q.

A. You didn't mention if the guest of honor was male or female or how they feel about turning 50. Men and women may have different takes on this golden age, so your decorations may be geared toward how they feel about it. If your guest of honor is female then you might consider:

1. Flower arrangements with flowers and colors that she enjoys
2. Mirrors on each table with rose petals and candles in
hurricane glasses
3. Mirrors with small glass bowls with floating candles
4. Flower pots filled with gerbera daisys and panseys (also can be used as gifts for guests)
5. A symbol of her favorite hobby or pasttime

For men:

1. Flowers in some instances, perhaps bold colors, heartier flowers such as gerbera daisys, roses, carnations etc.
2. Fountains
3. Gold fish bowls with gold coins, divers, and fish
4. A symbol of their hobby or favorite pasttime

If someone thinks that turning 50 is the worst thing that could happen to them, then you might want to incorporate something tastefully humourous to cheer them up. Many women are entering into menopause, so that can be a funny thing to incorporate as well. Have fun!

What to get a girl for her birthday?
Q. So obviously I'm a guy. But I really suck when it comes to gifts. She's kind of a girly girl.

I asked my friend and she said to get her some stuff like Victoria's Secret.. Like fragrances/perfume/lotion or from bath and body works? Is that okay?

Or a giftcard to certain clothes?

What do you guys think? Do you guys have any other ideas? She's just a friend, so I don't wanna go buy her anything that might break that barrier.

A. Buy anything but keep it exactly equal to the cost of her last gift to you. If she spent $50 for your last gift return the favour. No sense you spending $500 on jewellery hoping she'll put out for you. If she calls you cheap throw her last gift to you right back at her. Who the heck says men must spend outrageous amounts on chicks when its not reciprocated? If she's just a friend, get her a GIFT card...no worries.

What gifts can I give my friends from Hawaii?
Q. I am going to Hawaii and want to give back some free or inexpensive gifts for my friends. Any ideas? I would really like to give someone a ukulale, about how much would that cost?

A. Head over to Hilo Hatties. You'll find some great gifts at reasonable prices AND you won't find yourself overcharged for them like you would in Waikiki. There is a free shuttle from most Waikiki hotels so you wouldn't even have to pay for parking or a rental car to get there.

Another option would be to spend some time at the Swap Meet at Aloha Stadium. It's a large open air market but you'll find some good deals if you're willing to walk around and take the time.

Happy hunting and happy travels!

What is a good gift for a new born baby?
Q. My friends way out in Hawaii are having their first baby on or about August 20th. I guess I would like the opionion of mothers. What do you wish people would have given you or given you more of for your newborn baby. I will be shipping from New York City so suggestions that are easy to mail are helpful. Do they need lots of new born pajama outfits? I could send a bunch of those. But a baby carriage is a little out of my leaque. Thanks to all the mom's who are going to help me with this!

A. it sounds impersonal and some people get all up in a tizzy but gift cards are the best.

Parents, especially new parents have an idea of what they need but things are always forgotten and then it is a mad dash to the store to pick up whatever it may be.

I would mail them a worthwhile gift card. Worthwhile meaning more than 10 - 15 dollars.

If you go this route you can also add your saved shipping costs onto the gift card..an envelope and stamp would be all that is necessary.

Where is the best place to stay for a Honeymoon in Hawaii?
Q. Can someone give me great options of things and expenses because we are planning on staying there for 8 days and I have no idea; every place looks great??? So from a little bit expensive stay and from a less expensive stay what am I looking at and what is great to experience over there.

A. Aloha from Maui,
Jeff it sounds like you are just at the beginning phase of planning your honeymoon.

There are lots of great hotels, resorts and condos here in Hawaii. The key is what is important to YOU and your fiance'e.

For example:
Do you want a condo or a hotel/resort?

Do you plan on sitting by the pool sipping tropical drinks or are you the type of person who is on the move and wants to do and see everything?

What type of view type are you looking for? Ocean view? Ocean front or the least expensive available?

What kind of vehicle will you be needing? A SUV, convertible or an economy car?

What are you allowing for your travel budget? Don't include meals and tours in this total. You can always figure that total out closer to your travel dates. Plus you will be generally getting money from family and friends in the way of a wedding gift. You can use that money for the "fun" stuff such as a zip line tour, or a luau.

What time of year will you be coming to Hawaii?
Will it be our "peak" travel times? If so, then you will want to start planning asap.

As a travel agent who specializes in honeymoons and destination wedding travel packages I see a big spike in business after Christmas. That is because many couples get engaged during the holidays and then are excited to get their travel plans confirmed for the upcoming year.

This means prices can JUMP in just a few days. I have seen airfare prices go up $100 per ticket in 5 minutes just because the lower price booked up that fast.

You may want to read our FAQ page. It answers a lot of the above questions and more!
I will include the link below.

Have a great time while you are here in Hawaii and congradulations on your recent engagement.

What would be an appropriate and nice gift for my Dad, for his 60th birthday?

Q. Me and my two daughters are going to surprise my Dad on his 60th birthday at a surprise dinner my Mom and brother are planning for him (we live 1500 miles away from him & he has no idea we are coming). I want to bring him something special, a nice gift, but I have no idea on what to get a 60 year old man. Any ideas or suggestions??? By the way he's a fishing fanatic.

A. Personally, he's probably going to appreciate the thought more then the money spent. PLUS the traveling to be with him. I would suggest you making a video tape of people sharing their favorite memory they have that involves him. That way he is feeling great and still seeing your faces. If you don't have access to a video camera you can write a letter explaining your favorite memory. You might want to get him a new fishing hook and explain how he's a great catch and you're happy he's your dad or something.

Can you suggest ideas for a gift for my Dad's 60th birthday?
Q. My Dad is turning 60 next month, and I have no idea what to get him. I always struggle to find gifts for him because he already has everything, and he's the kind of person who just goes out and buys what he wants.

I'd like to get him something special, but I'm totally stumped.

He's into tools, his truck, his pet dogs, and regular "man" stuff (but not golf or football).

A. Is he into politics? Was he in the army? Does he like history?

I only ask these questions because when my grandfather had his birthday I had the same problem. I had no idea what to get him. But my grandfather was in the army, so I typed in "Gifts for soldiers," and I found this website that sells like gifts for guys who are a like, "I'm an American, I'm Awesome."

But they also have military patches and flags that also might interest your grandfather. If you are completely stumped it may be worth a look. Hope this helps.

my step father is paying $5000 for my wedding, how much should i spend on a gift for him in return?
Q. My step father is paying for half of my wedding. Which is very generous of him! I am very appreciative. How much should me and my fiance spend on a gift in return for him? Any body have any ideas? It's kind of silly to ask for money to help us out and then go right back and spend half of it on a present for him anyways. That kind of defeats the purpose of getting the from from him. Suggestions?

A. Would you consider a gift for both him and your mom together? One of my favorite gifts to give is a gift card from "bed and breakfast .com." I gave it to my MOH & Best Man (my brother & sis-in-law) for being in my wedding and then later to my mom on her 60th birthday. If you or any of your family/friends has a Costco membership, you can purchase a $100 gift card for $80. So if you can afford $160, you can get them $200 worth of gift and they get a nice weekend away at any participating bed and breakfast! They are also offering a special on the site directly, $25 off of $250 purchase... http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/ or http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11606425&search=bedandbreakfast.com&topnav=&Mo=0&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode%20matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=bedandbreakfast.com&Ntt=bedandbreakfast.com&No=0&Nty=1&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial

The best part of this gift is that you are giving them an experience & memories, not just a "thing" that may eventually just end up on a shelf collecting dust.

What should I get my dad for Father's Day/ Birthday?
Q. My dad's birthday is coming up on the same day as Father's Day, soon, so I have double the giving. He's not like most dads he's not handy or a business man so no tools or creative office supplies. Though, he is a writer, excercises quite a bit, and pretty fashionable. Do you have an idea of what i should get him? Muchhhhh Appreciated!

A. Fathers Day is the perfect time to show your appreciation for everything your dad has done for you over the years. Whether your dad loves trying out new recipes or spending time outdoors minding the grill, theres always some new electronic gear he can use.

Is this a lame gift idea for my girlfriend?

Q. My girlfriend and I have been together for over five years. I have given her many pieces of jewelry as well as other common and not so common gift ideas. We have been doing it long distance for the last 1.5 years which kind of plays into the theme of the gift I was thinking of giving her for xmas this year. The gift is a personalized throw pillow on one side it is a cute picture of both of my dogs on my family's boat with their tiny dog life preservers on. On the back it is a good picture of us both on a trip Cancun this Summer, in text underneath it says "Cancun, 2012" and centered underneath that "I love you". The pillow is a light pink color that fits in with the color of her bed. I was thinking this would be nice since we do not currently live together as it has pictures of both us together and my dogs that she loves. I am worried however that this is a lame gift... I am also planning on getting her some chocolates or something along those lines and obviously a card.

What do you think, lame idea or a nice idea?

A. No, that is not a lame idea. That is a great gift. I think your girlfriend is going to be very happy.

What are some gift ideas for meeting my girlfriend's parents for first time?
Q. I am meeting my girlfriend's parents for the first time in under two weeks. I'm not a 'youngin', so I have been down this road before, but 20+ years ago.

What are other gift ideas beyond wine and flowers? For further refinement, we are meeting for dinner in a restaurant.

A. Hey I think you can get them something practical yet personal. For the mom, you can get her a nice pair of gloves. I recommend you check out KinaRosa on Etsy ( http://www.etsy.com/shop/kinarosa ) These gloves are handmade, very high quality. They are unique yet affordable. My mom loves the gloves. I am sure it'll be a great gift for your girlfriend's mom since it's winter time. If you are not sure what color to buy, go for black, chocolate brown or burgundy red. They are safe colors that every woman loves.

For the dad, do you know what he likes? I think it's always good to go for more practical gifts for men. If he like cigars, you can buy him a nice box of cigars. If he like coffee, get him some good coffee beans. If you really don't know what he likes, you can get him a nice pen. My dad likes pens from Cross. They are not too expensive, but they are good pens.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your gift searching!

My boyfriend's birthday is dangerously soon, I need gift ideas.?

What Are Some Good Gift Ideas For A Seventeen Year Old For Her Birthday?
Q. My Friend Is Turning 17, And I Have No Idea What To Get Her.
She Likes Pink, And Elephants, And Shes Not Girly But Not A Tomboy.
What Are Some Idea?

A. Why not get her a box of little things? Put all of her favorite things in like books, jewelry, a mix tape, things that are pink, quirky badges (http://janell.tk/), cute plushies (http://wtpp.tk/) or candy. You could make a theme like everything is pink, or has elephants on it.

That way you don't have to worry about her not liking something. With so many choices, she is sure to like something.

I need unique gift ideas for my boyfriend?
Q. I want to get my boyfriend something really nice for Christmas. I want to think of something unique, quirky and something he won't expect. I already know what he wants and I'm getting that, but my question is what are some ideas for unique gifts like maybe things i can make at home?

A. I always have a rough time shopping for my husband. Like you, I can always get the one thing that he wants or has mentioned, but then the filler stuff is hard. I found this article this year with some links to specific products on Amazon. I think I might pick a few. (the prices range from a couple of bucks up to like $300, so there's something for everybody.) I really like some of the retro sports shirts that they mention. And, my husband loves to cook and brews his own beer, so some of the stuff in that category piqued my interest too. Good luck!

What is a good gift to get for an office party?
Q. I need to think of a good gift to bring to my office party. We each have a limit of $20 and it's a "steal a gift" exchange. I would like to bring something that everyone will want to steal! It's a group of mostly women with 2 or 3 men. Thanks!

A. Oooh, the dreaded office gift exchange!

The trick is to pick something fun and special, without being so specific that no one is interested in the gift. Start with a basic, and then add a few twists with clever packaging.

Basics

Movie passes
Movie rental card
Scratch tickets
Starbucks card
Pound of really good coffee
Itunes gift card
Mag light (That light that you shake and never needs batteries.)
Gift card from Old Navy, bookstore, coffee shop, popular store.
(Try to pick a store that has extra perks with the card, one time I got an Old Navy card that said that if it was used in the week after Christmas buys also got a chance to win extra money to spend. )
Beautiful cake from a nearby bakery. (We did an Italian cream cake was very popular)
Variety box of funky/fun greeting cards

Theme gifts - take a basic, and make it fun by bundling it with some inexpensive related items.

Old fashioned fun box:
Wind up toys, Matchbox cars, Parachute men, slingshot, Super bounce ball, Suction bouncy toys, Silly putty.

Movie night:
Popcorn, candy, bowl, Movie rental card

Gourmet Java Jolt:
Coffee, Flavored syrup, and Frother (it is an inexpensive whipper to create foam, last one I bought was $7 bucks)

Summer fun:
Snorkle and fin set

Inside Joke:
Box of Diet Caffeine-free Dr. pepper. One of the girls in our office was crazy for it, so someone found 2 big packs of it, and wrapped it up for the swap. When it was wrapped it looked huge after it was opened, everyone knew who it was for. But of course, she had something they wanted.. and so the negotiating began!

Maybe someone in your office has a quirky habit or interest that you can play off of!

Ideas for success:

Wrap the gift!
- Use an oversized box, people tend to go for the big boxes first
- Be creative. Wrap the present in a mysterious/fun way. Egg Carton (who would pick a "dozen eggs") ? Coffee can? Brown paper bag with a rubber band? Box from something else.
-Wrap smaller items (scratch tickets, gift cards etc.) in a larger box or with a larger item. For example:
-- a CD Case
-- Box of Candy canes (Protect the tickets in a plastic bag and tape to front of box). Looks like candy canes as they unwrap, until they see the tickets on the front.
-- Inside a pickle jar (I have a friend that does this one a lot... and it gets a good response, go figure!)
-- Use an Altoids tin for gift cards. If you are crafty, you can "remake" the tin into a one-of-a-kind box.

"Break the rules"

- Bring an extra White Elephant gift, wrap it, and put it in the middle of the pile. Something crazy, ugly, laughable, and totally different. (Whoever gets that one, can always pick again after the joking is done.) You never know, someone might actually want it!
-- Dog chewed shoe
-- Old child-size portable record player (was fought over.)
-- Look around, you probably have something that will work...

Have fun with it!

Things to avoid (unless you really, really, know that people in the office will like it.)
- Obvious "gift with purchase items"
- Practical joke items
- Dreaded holiday Combo packages.
- Edible underwear, or other adult items that might just go "oh so wrong"
- Gourmet Hot cocoa set with a mug
- Scented candles (if it was all women maybe....)

A. For my little cousin's 1st birthday, I bought her a toddler pool and a bathing-suit to go with it. Actually something usable (not just another toy) and ended up being Multi purpose. The Mom ended up blowing it up and putting it in her playroom she LOVED crawling in and out of it and playing with her babies in it. : )

What should I get my niece for Christmas?
Q. My niece is 1 years old and I need gift ideas. I was thinking of getting her a toy truck but I want to know what you think. What are some good gift ideas I can get for my niece?

A. Typically at this age, kids are inquisitive and love to learn, so an educational toy might be a better choice. They also love bright colors - large, big colorful blocks work well for small hands. Plus, you do not want to get her a toy with small parts that may present a choking hazard.

I would suggest heading over to http://www.toptoyschristmas.net/go/infant-toys to get an idea of appropriate gifts for 1 year olds. If anything, at least it will give you some ideas.

What are some gift ideas for a 1 year old?
Q. I have started Christmas shopping a little earlier than I normally do and I have a 1 year old neice. Any ideas? I was already thinking of getting her a cute winter outfit but I need something else to go with it. Thanks!!

A. Books are always a good idea for little ones. There are board books that have carbdoard pages rather than paper so that a 1 year old cannot rip them but still gets the experience of flipping pages and "reading."

Please help me come up with ideas for kids christmas gifts!?

Q. The children are:
5 yr old boy in kindergarten, smart, likes video games (but has too many already)
3 yr old girl, spunky, into her baby dolls and make up/hair, rambunctious.
9mo old boy.. has everything from older sibs.
Family has a verrrry limited budget... Only spending $40 per kid. Thank you!

A. Your little boy is proably way into video games and things that control...if he doesn't already have one, I would suggest a remote control truck or car...just a small one...I think they are under $20!
If she doesn't already have one, your little girls sounds like the type to want a "make-up' hair doll. where you comb the dolls hair, and do her make up...
A 9 month old usually likes things that are noisy, but if you don't want noisy toys, get him somthing to play with that won't roll away...unless he's crawling or walking...then I'd get something that will help him walk.

A. Go to www.gifts.com. When you get there, you can use the shop by personality option which lets you pick whether you are shopping for a man, woman, girl, or boy & then it will take you thru a series of questions to get an idea of what kind of person he/she is. When you get thru that a lot of gift ideas will pop up. Even if you don't find exactly what you are seeking, it'll help get your ideas flowing. Good luck~

ideas for 9 yr old boys army party indoors?
Q. Need great ideas for 9 yr old army party?
my son had a really hard year and has been really strong now it is his birthday and i want to throw him an awesome birthday party he loves army and has since he was 2
need food ideas, decoration ideas, games, gift bag ideas
also there is about 6 inches of snow here and he has health concerns and cant be outside much in the cold

A. My grandson has Army parties every year:) In fact, all he'll wear is camoflauge:) ..... If you have room, set up some tents. They might be happy just watching some movies on tv (Stripes; Private Benjamin - other comedies involving the military). You could serve Pigs in a Blanket in mess kits; with veggies & Ranch dip and chips - or pizza. Luckily, my grandson lives in California, and my daughter has his Nov. parties outside, with a firepit for them to sit around; and they spend the night in the yard in tents (my son-in-law sleeps out there too, and he just retired as a Staff Sgt). If you have a fireplace; and the tents; they could lay there and watch the movies; and just "be boys".....

Ideas for birthday gift for a bright 4 yr old girl. Would like suggestions for specific toys/games.?
Q. I'm her grandma. I give her lots of books. We have loved collecting Little People but I think she may be outgrowing them. I'm looking for something she might want to spend some time with and probably play with alone.
All your answers are SO great! Thanks so much! She has MegaBlocks which are like big legos. Of course, she has a Cabbage Patch doll and a Cabbage Patch newborn. I've gotten several sets of Fisher Price "Little People." (I love them too.) She does still play with them a lot. She has a great imagination. I'll give her mom a call to help me pick. Your ideas should help me with her birthday and Christmas. Thanks.

A. one of my favorite gifts to give to both boys and girls of ages from 3-8 or 9 is an art pack.

I begin with a fishing tackle type box and in the sections of the top I put in things like small rulers, stickers, roll of tape, colored pencils, pens/pencils, scissors, paper clips, and other assorted supplies. In the bottom or larger section I place things like various sizes of markers, crayons, notepads, other drawing tools like stencils . And then I decorate the outside with the childs name, and stickers.

then in another bag or briefcase(even the paper or cloth ones work well--and the child feels like a grownup when they use it. Inside I place things like assorted types of paper, colored(get good quality) drawing paper (get a few different types some for markers, some just for pencils, and some for painting) and maybe add an idea book or two (but no coloring books)

All of these ideas should also be based on the age of the child. and should be used with adult supervision until you are sure the child will use them correctly and safely.

I have been told fequently that these are sometimes the favorite gift that a child has recieved at a bithday party...it allows them to explore different types of art mediums and gives them good self esteem about their work and encourages them to take care of their things.

My own children also recieved similar gifts from me and always bring them up when they talk about gifts they have enjoyed the most....my youngest hated having to give up her "box" when she went to college--it had been with her since she was about 8 and she kept all of her "special" art supplies in it and hid her favorite pens and pencils in it to keep them from her sister.

What would be a great gift for my cheerleading coaches?

Q. I have three AMAZING coaches. I need some gift ideas that can be personalized for each them. It needs to show how much my team truly appreciates everything they do for us, everything they have sacrificed for us, and how much they support us. Please and thank you! =)

A. Make them each a scrapbook. I did this for my coach once and they loved it. Have all the girls get together and put money in towards a scrapbook and the materials and put it together. There must be girls with moms who take bunches of pics at competitions, games, and practices. If not and you dont have enough pictures, get a team photo and put it in a nice frame for each of them. Have all the girls sign and then they'll always remember you guys. Good luck and I hope they like the gift... Whatever you get them.

What is the coolest mothers day gift you have ever recieved?
Q. Trying to find a neat and different idea for Mom this year. She is retired, has everything she ever wanted, and no real hobbies except gardening, and I live several states away, so plants or trees are kinda out of the question.

A. Having never received one as you can readily tell, I can only share stuff I thought my mom liked.

Stuff I got for her that I thought she would like often ended up stored away for posterity somewhere. The stuff that I saw she put in places she could see anytime were things where I put some "heart" into it.

Some examples are: souveniers I got for her while on trips abroad where she could see I was thinking about her even while I was busy with many other things. A small trophy for "world's best mom." A framed poem about how much I appreciated the things she taught me, and another one about the hard times in her life when she sacrificed so I could have, and another about "now I understand what she was trying to explain." And other things that let her know how much I appreciated and loved and thought about her a lot.

Maybe consider sending her your answer to the "hereafter" question with things about her too? Anyway, just my opinions.

What are some ideas for home made Christmas gifts?
Q. I dont have that much money so I would like to make most of the gifts this year.

I have a 10 year old sister who loves animals

And my mom likes everything, I mean really I cant think of anything she doesnt like lol.

A. Christmas themed clay pots you can make yourself.

What were your favorite gifts at your baby shower?
Q. I am going to one of my best friend's baby shower, and I really want to get her something that is really practical and helpful. I have already bought a cute little outfit, but I would love some ideas from moms and what their favorite gifts were! Thanks!
p.s. it's a boy!

A. My rocking chair came from my Mom, I got pack and play, crib, and changing table, and automatic breast pump (with my own attachments of course) from hand-me-downs from other relatives. I love the changing table. That certainly gets the most use out of everything, followed by the rocking chair.

HANGERS (child size) someone bought me, I don't remember who, but whoever did was a genius! I had so many clothes that weren't her size yet and none of the had store hangers yet. Soo helpful for organization. (like a dollar for 10 at walmart)

You could make her something in a picture frame for the wall, like a collage or sew a cute saying, we got something like this from DH's aunt.

Free babysitting "coupons" so she can go out for a night

Camera if she doesn't already have one (we didn't)

Little baskets to put stuff in, kinda like this:
http://www.target.com/4-pc-Basket-Set-Liners-Honey/dp/B000NOYYAK/qid=1240003375/ref=br_1_8/191-7150860-8429617?ie=UTF8&node=14183021&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1
We use ours to put stuff like lotions and soaps in one, toys in another, stuffed animals, you get the picture..

Will she breastfeed? Boob pads are awesome! I use a lot of these. Lansinoh ones are the best ones I've found.
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=72402&catid=20&brand=23229&trx=PLST-0-BRAND&trxp1=20&trxp2=72402&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-BRAND

I also use a lot of breastmilk storage bags. These ones are great, especially with the double zipper, also Lansinoh:
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=72403&catid=20&brand=23229&trx=PLST-0-BRAND&trxp1=20&trxp2=72403&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-BRAND

Blankets you can never have enough blankets. The flannel swaddling ones, and the big fuzzy soft ones. If you get the fuzzy ones, make sure you pull on it before you buy it to make sure all the fuzzies don't come off because otherwise the baby gets fuzzies in all the little chub rolls.

Laundry basket. We got one of these and good thing too, cuz we use the ones we already had for our clothes - we sort them when we take em off.

I used a wipe warmer for the first month, after that I quit using it, was just too much of a pain when the wipes fell back in and had to open the whole top up to grab the next wipe.

Speaking of wipes, Huggies wipes I love because they're thicker and hold more poo. Pampers wipes are made of cotton so they're softer but strechier and sometimes I get a finger full when I use those.

Q-tips are great too, we use a lot of those. Nose suckers don't work for our daughter, so I CAREFULLY clean out the boogers with q-tips. Good for ear wax too.

We use these most often... Hope you find something great to give her!

What is a good gift idea for a girl that likes twilight books?

A. the perfect gift for a woman is a day at the spa. I know because it has worked well for me.

Does anyone have any good ideas for wedding party gifts?
Q. I am already making monogrammed makeup bags for my bridesmaids, but we are still looking for more ideas. I have 8 bridesmaids, so it has to be affordable! We are also looking for some good groomsmen/flower girl/ring bearer gift ideas. Thank you!

A. I found a necklace on Etsy that I liked, and I contacted the seller and asked if she could do a special deal if I ordered 6. She gave me 40% off and free shipping, it was perfect! Handmade silver necklaces in the wedding colors for them to wear on the day of... that I know they will love and wear again.
Etsy sellers are great about making package deals :)

What is a unique gift to give a third grade teacher for an end of the school year present?
Q. I have been a parent volunteer since my oldest started kindergarten in 1984 and have helped with numerous end of the school year parties. My youngest is in 3rd grade and I think my creativity has taken a leave of absence (or just too tired). I am just not coming up with any ideas for a teacher present this year. What are some good teacher gifts that you can think of? Some of the things I have done in the past are gift certificates to restaurants, teacher stores, sporting events, book stores; fabric painted sweatshirts, tote bags, aprons with kids' names and handprints; flowers, plants, and trees; one year I did a summer survival kit with sunscreen, a book, a sun hat, etc, in a styrafoam cooler. All of these are thoughtful gifts and appreciated by teachers. Does anyone have other suggestions for truly unique gift ideas? Thanks!

A. I am a teacher and by far the nicest suggestion is a book with notes from the kids. You have certainly given wonderful presents in the past too. But no one can ever give the gift of real appreciation. I have many mugs, t-shirts, plants etc but the gifts I treasure and that I take out when I need a lift are notes from my students and a well worn little book given to me by a class over 22 years ago. I love all my gifts and feel grateful that people have taken time to select and give a gift when we are all so busy so I am sure anything would be fine...but a little book of notes from the kids...a priceless jewel!

What can i give (gift) to an expecting lady on the day of the baby shower she is hosting?
Q. So what is a good gift to give to the soon-to-be mommy for her baby shower? She is having a girl so what is a good gift for the baby? Ofcourse, i want it to be reasonably priced (maybe 60 or less) since items for newborns can be quite expensive. So please share some gift ideas. Thanks!
Nope, she does not have a registry so i don't know what she would want/need.

A. It can be hard to find a gift with no registry for ideas. You can always put the money a gift card to Target or Babies R Us. That way if she doesn't get everything she may need at her shower, she'll have some money to get it with.

Having said that, if you really what to get her something, maybe go for a pack of diapers and wipes, rash cream, burp clothes, washcloths, an outfit, a baby first aid kit.

Or you can always find some thing nice for her. If you know her sizes, maybe a nice pajama set for after the baby, some fuzzy slippers, her fav perfume, etc.

Good luck and have fun shopping :)
