One of the most amazing gifts i ever recieved from my best friend (who lives in another country from me) was a calender. For every month, she had stuck a picture of either her, me, or us together. It was for my 17th birthday back in 2010 and it was for 2011, but even today, in 2012, it hangs on my wall near my bed on a picture of the words 'i love *then my name is written here* that wasnt designated to a month. Honestly not sure of the origin but I assume it would have been started in the large multi-floor department stores in either the UK or NYC and honestly the mall people screen the mall santa's more thoroughly than the police ever could and usually it is the same guy each year at least for a couple of years so that the children won't say : "hey santa why did your voice change?"

Password Journal. This is available at Wal-Mart, Meijer, Target, Toys-R-Us, etc. They usually range from $20-$24 plus tax. Works great if the little girl has brothers (or even sisters) who might tend to snoop into what she writes. It's my understanding that it is a voice command password, so it's in her own voice. Hopefully they wouldn't learn her password and/or be able to mimic her voice. I checked into it for a friend's 6-yr-old and the journals are rated anywhere from 4.5 to 5 stars out of 5 possible, so sounds like a sure thing.

2nd idea:
Crayola Glow Station or Glow Globe. Also available at the same type of stores. This would be great for girls who are creative types, and there are several kinds to choose from.

I'm glad you asked this, because my kids recieved from their Aunt and Uncle the most wonderful gift that lasted for years!

They each recieved a large plastic tote box that had their name written on it in in a black Magic Marker. My son's had the addition of his picture glued onto the lid. On the lid were stickers of the things my kids liked: kittens and birds for one and blocks, cars and trucks for the other.

In the box:

3 boxes of instant pudding (to fingerpaint with)

crayons

washable markers

sponges in shapes of animals and shapes

crayola washable paints

playdough (you can do the homemade kind w/ recipe attatched too)

pre-colored macaronis and shoestrings for stringing

bag of pre-cut foam shapes ($199 for 150 count at Walmart)

non toxic paste (easier for toddlers to work with)

a large vinal tablecloth (for an art mat)

a "Raffi" cd to set the creative mood (any children's music cd wiil do)

and a box of clean up wipes (This was great for me, but also provided a great way to teach our kids that cleaning up after fun is the last part of play).

Since recieving these, we have made many, many art, creative and even dress-up boxes for other's birthday parties. We have heard over and over again that these boxes were the child's favorite present. The nicest thing is to hear this weeks or months after the party and to know they are still enjoying it.

As a mom, it was a great start to have such boxes. We added to them and changed the ingrediants of them as our childredn got older of course.

The best thing you can by for her is a gift card, that way she can use it and purchase what she likes. As a college student, she can use the card to purchase items she needs for college because many students do not have a lot of money and a gift card can go a long way for something she needs for her personal use.

I am planning a little baby shower for a lady at work whose daughter is about to give birth to her first grandbaby! I'm needing a gift idea that a group of us can pitch in on and get for her new grandbaby! I would like to get her something big, like a play pin or something of that nature, but I can still fill with little things like blankets, bottles, etc. Keep in mind, this is to be kept at the Grandmother's house, not Mom's! you are so thoughful! be sure to toss in one of those dispoable cameras for those precious "kodak" moments. Also, don't forget about some safety things : outlet covers, thingys to keep cabinets closed, etc 'cause that grandbaby will be cruising around be fore you know it.
Also, maybe some first aid items: baby asprin, a thermometer, etc.

I don't know if this is in with young teens these days, but when I was around that age I know Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul was a really great book to read through tough times. It covers a lot of topics and issues that teenagers face including death and many other things. So even after coping with her loss she can reference back to the book to deal with things such as puberty, dating, peer pressure, stress of school, family, friends... I mean just lots of things you go through at that age. I strongly beleive that this book might help her. There are also more version of the book each starting with "chicken soup for the(insert specific topic here)" but I would say go with chicken soup for the teenage soul. It'll be perfect for her.

I think the little ones are so much easier to buy for. Wait until you have teenagers and you have no idea what to buy them anymore... so I'm rather surprised with this question.

You can get him anything from...
- craft supplies like crayons/marker sets
- stuffed animal of his favourite animal
- colouring and activity books
- electronic toys & games (like plug and play games that you plug into your TV)
- since it's winter... think sleds or "saucers", or if any of his parents skii or snowboards... think about getting a mini snowboard or a pair of skiis to get him started.
- i know little guys like lego, or even k'nex are great fun.

Walk into Wal-Mart or any toy shop and think of what little boys would like! If it's not your kid, make sure the product you're buying is kid-safe... and doesn't have little pieces they can choke on. If you're not sure about a gift idea... you could always double check with the parent too.

My boyfriend has a plastic bag full of at least 50 Hot Wheels cars that we want to give his 4 year old son along with a fold up race track, but I'm not sure how to package them. I obviously don't want to give them to him in a Walmart plastic bag, or really in a box just thrown in. Does anyone have any ideas how I can package them and gift wrap them?
