How do I throw a 30th Birthday Party for my single friend?

Q. My single girlfriend is turn 30 this year. Does anyone have an clever ideas for decorations or a theme?

A. I'm single and also turning 30 this year. Hey, maybe you're my friend and this party is for me! ha! just kidding... ;)

If she's anything like me, and dreads turning 30, the last thing I want is to have people rubbing my new age-bracket in my face. Who wants to be reminded of how old they are getting when they're still single? So forego any "Over-the-Hill" type of decorations, or anything referring to "Old Maid" (I absolutely HATE that term!!!) Here are some parties that she may like:

-Honestly, I think a dinner party with her closest friends would be the best. Make reservations at her favorite restaurant and make a fun night of it. Take pictures!
-If she hates the thought of turning 30, do a "Happy 1st Anniversary of turning 29" party. Have 29 pink candles and 1 white candle decorating a white-frosted cake.
-Decorate the party like the 70's since that was the year she was born and have everyone wear 70's attire and play 70's music. Have 70's style posters decorating the room and maybe a history board of pictures of her growing through the years.
-Or if she's a fan of the 80's, throw an 80's style party, same idea as the 70's version...
-Or perhaps if she's a movie buff, have a party of "Big Movie Hits of the Last Three Decades". Have everyone dress up as their favorite movie character over the last 30 years.
-Maybe have people bring inexpensive gifts in thirty's. Thirty candy bars, thirty birthday cards about turning 30, a mixed CD with 30 songs on it, etc. Let your guests be the creative ones too.
-Murder mystery parties are awesome.
-Perhaps if you and her close friends can afford it, go on a road trip somewhere and celebrate. Vegas, Atlantic City, etc.

I don't suggest strippers or strip clubs. To me, that's fun in your early 20's. Turning 30 is a big step and the party shouldn't be reduced to something silly, unless she would like that...? *shrug*

***The most important part: Whatever you decide to do, invite men and women. If any of your guests have any potentional, great single men, bring them along! The more the single men, the merrier, right? ;)

Good luck! I'm sure she (and everyone else) will have a blast! And how thoughtful of you to do this for her! :)

What should i do for a 50th birthday party?
Q. Ok so my friend is setting up a 50th birthday party for her mom she is 15 and she wants it to be realy great

A. 1. an over the hill party, love the idea posted about making it all dark and the vultures and stuff...but another way to do this is to go for the funny..buy her an over the hill tshirt and or cap that she has to wear throughout the party...there are tons of them...I'll post some links later for ideas....but most places have those tshirt vendors in the mall a lot of the time you can get great things for over the hill gifts there...you could have some over the hill games(games typically associated with the "up in age crowd"...I posted 2 links for ideas...with a little imagination any of them could be adapted to fit your friend's mom's party

you could do a 50's fad party ...if her parents are still alive talk to them about the crazy fads she took part in as a kid and see if you can find some of the clothing or whatever fads that she did and have everyone come in 50's fad style....get music that she grew up listening to..do all the dances she did etc etc...have candies and snacks from the 50's..again posted some links...and again with a bit of imagination..the ideas could be adapted...for example one 50's fad was panty raids..on the invites you could specify that people bring an extra pair of underwear....at the start of the party they have to put the panties somewhere on their body..in a pants pocket, in a breast pocket, pinned to their body...and people have to steal each others underwear.....the one with the most at the end of the party wins a small prize

a timeline party...make a video of all her friends and family memories of her growing up.....all the important moments of her life and play it at the party......again you could have decades of snacks...some from the 50's, 60, 70's etc right through to today....have a wall in the party room decorated with her life....from birth to today....baby photos....embarrassing teenage photos...prom...wedding, children's photos, etc etc..have photos of all the "hot" artists of the 50's and movie actors etc etc

whatever she ends up doing sounds like it will be lots of fun

I need ideas on a song to play&siing for my Grandmother's 70th birthday?
Q. Well, my grandmother is an amazing woman.
Strong, helpful, kind, understanding and a great rolemodel.
She's lived with us since I was born, so almost 15 years and she's been more than just a grandmother to me. It's almost as if she was my own mother.
Well, I figured it would be a nice thing to sing and play something on my guitar for her on her birthday, but I have no idea what song to choose.
Any suggestions?

A. Harvest Moon by Neil Young: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVi0UvFu8Yo

And if you want to melt her heart with a wonderful gift to accompany the song:

Make it a gift from all the family from an old photo perhaps of her and your Grandfather!

I hope this helps!

My daughters 3rd birthday is at the end of January and I am looking for ideas for a cute cheap birthday party?

Q. Im stuck, she doesn't need alot and with Christmas just a month before her birthday she is getting a ton of toys babies especially. Im just looking for some cheap but cute ideas for her birthday party.

A. Hi Jessica,
I had the same dilemma when my twins were toddlers. Their birthday is right after Christmas.
Decorate the birthday room with her favorite colors: Pink and Purple go great for little girls.

Here's some ideas: Finger Painting: Be sure to protect the area that you plan on providing this sometimes messy activity, but the kids will love it. Supply appropriate finger paints, plenty of colorful paper, aprons, and any other decorations that they can use creating their own masterpieces.

Musical Fun: Not only can you play games that are centered on music, but you can allow the toddlers to create their own music. Toddler birthday party ideas are about getting creative and
making it fun! Put out plenty of musical instruments that your little one likely has such as drums, xylophone, and tambourine. You can also create your very own musical instruments by putting out some plastic containers and any other noisemakers. This can keep them busy for hours and they will have tons of fun!

Playground in Your Own Home: Even if the weather won't cooperate for the kids to go outdoors, bring the playground to them. Have your very own pit of balls for the kids to play in, an indoor slide, and a rocking horse for them to play on. The key is to keep the kids busy and have fun.

I would make a cupcake tree. Of course if you want her to blow out the candles, get a small
cake just for her. The others would just love their individual birthday cupcake.
Get clear party bags for both girls and boys: If there's a dollar store near you, include little tokens
for each. They will love to see through their gift bags.

Hope you all have a great party.
:))

Do you have any birthday present suggestions for a 2 year old?
Q. Specifically I am looking for ideas of things that I might be able to help my 5 year old make since we don't have much extra money right now. The 2 year old is really interested in blocks, babies, and animals right now.

A. I'm glad you asked this, because my kids recieved from their Aunt and Uncle the most wonderful gift that lasted for years!

They each recieved a large plastic tote box that had their name written on it in in a black Magic Marker. My son's had the addition of his picture glued onto the lid. On the lid were stickers of the things my kids liked: kittens and birds for one and blocks, cars and trucks for the other.

In the box:

3 boxes of instant pudding (to fingerpaint with)

crayons

washable markers

sponges in shapes of animals and shapes

crayola washable paints

playdough (you can do the homemade kind w/ recipe attatched too)

pre-colored macaronis and shoestrings for stringing

bag of pre-cut foam shapes ($199 for 150 count at Walmart)

non toxic paste (easier for toddlers to work with)

a large vinal tablecloth (for an art mat)

a "Raffi" cd to set the creative mood (any children's music cd wiil do)

a child's size muslin apron with their name written on it (again, at walmart for $1.99)

and a box of clean up wipes (This was great for me, but also provided a great way to teach our kids that cleaning up after fun is the last part of play).

Since recieving these, we have made many, many art, creative and even dress-up boxes for other's birthday parties. We have heard over and over again that these boxes were the child's favorite present. The nicest thing is to hear this weeks or months after the party and to know they are still enjoying it.

As a mom, it was a great start to have such boxes. We added to them and changed the ingrediants of them as our childredn got older of course.

Hope this can be of some help or inspiration for more ideas.

Any good ideas for gifts for a nine year old girl?
Q. I'm trying to come up with ideas to give my mother-in-law for my daughter's ninth birthday. any thoughts? she isn't allowed hannah montana, bratz, etc. just curious if anyone has ideas of what the kids are into at this age - she is losing interest in Barbie dolls now.

thanks for any ideas!

A. These are just a few ideas
Get her a musical instument that you know she would like to learn (drop in a few questions) and then when she opens it and says wow but I can't play it then you say well you will soon we are going for your first lesson today. A friend got that for her 7th birthday and is now nearly grade 8 and has been thanking her parents all of her life.

Maybe you could organise her a suprise sleepover and then at the party give her a sleepover kit you know cute sleeping bag, suitcase, new pyjamas ect.

You could give her a pre paid visa so that you can put as much money on it as you want and maybe a nice purse and then take her and some friends shopping.

You could also buy her a rucksack filles with loads of little toys like stoking fillers and then she can have a great time opening loads of little presents.

Wish her a happy birthday for me and good luck.

What should I do for my boyfriend for our one-year anniversary?

Q. Coming up is my boyfriend and I's one year anniversary. I have no idea what to get for him! For our six month, I made him a scrapbook of pictures up until six months. It took me forever and he loved it. I send him letters when he is in college (we go to different schools) and occasionally I send him little care packages with food. We go out to lunch and dinner often, and I think he is planning on taking me out for our one-year. I really love making him homemade gifts; I usually make him gifts, but buy things as well, that usually have meanings behind them.

Any ideas on what to buy for him, to make, or to take him?

Thank you!

side note: He is 20 years old and he loves the outdoors.

A. you could give him a personalized pocket knife

Q. He is 45 years old. He loves golf and football, especially the New England Patriots and Georgia Bulldogs! Thanks to anyone:)

A. How about any of these to think about. You don't have to get any of them as a gift IF you don't want to, but it might give you ideas or something comes to mind.

Why have health care costs increased increased so exponentially in the last thirty or so years?
Q. I'm looking for a detailed in depth answer and not the usual polemics and talking points. When I was younger I had jobs that did not provide health insurance and was able to incur some costs that would ruin me today , but did not in that time. What exactly has happened to get us into the unfortunate place we find ouselves now?

A. It's a combination of things, primarily governmental bad choices and the HANDFUL of large insurers who DOMINATE health care.

A FEW examples of how the government drives up costs:

the laundry list of nonsense states require in order to allow a plan to be sold in their state. There is NO good reason for this. If someone wants a "barebones" plan and the company is solvent, let it be offered, instead of stupidly DEMANDING that chiropractic care be offered, or something else that some people won't want.

When we have government programs (and we have SEVERAL: Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, IHS, VA, as well as other programs that allow more income than Medicare, but that's the concept), ALL should do everything possible to reduce costs. Example: the VA logically allows for negotiated prescription med prices, Medicare is prohibited. End result: far more expense for the taxpayer and the patient. ALSO those on Medicare a decade ago who had an HMO version typically got drug coverage that is BETTER than the current idiocy of the "donut hole" that they've all apparently converted to now. Thanks, Uncle Sam.

Freebies for "charity hospitals." Fact is the bulk of hospitals have this designation and are tax-exempt. The idea was that they'd give back the equivalent of their tax pass to the public they are supposed to serve. Fact: the majority fail to do so. See CAGW--Citizens Against GovernmentWaste--also check out specifially IL AG's Madigan's attempt to get them to get on board with that.

AWP BS--AWP is the "Average Wholesale Price" of drugs. It's a fictional story designed to bump up government payment to drug companies.

ERISA shield--most folks with insurance still get it through work. ERISA has been misapplied by the courts and folks with insurance that way can be denied treatment their plan SHOULD cover with impunity. IF they damage the patient, all they can be out in court is what the treatment that was denied would cost. IF they can win the "drag it out" lottery and the patient dies, they can't even be fined! Read Jamie Cort's book "HMOs: Making a Killing."

See the testimony of Meidinger re: the routine bad accounting principles where they get GIFTS that other businesses and certainly PEOPLE would pay tax on and don't: http://www.ftc.gov/reports/healthcare/040723healthcarerpt.pdf

Also government routinely tries to balance their Medicare Ponzi scheme on the backs of doctors--who are stopping taking this bogus system:
http://www.massmed.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=vs_mar05_top&TEMPLATE=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&CONTENTID=11037
"That dark cloud lurking over the shoulder of every Massachusetts physician is Medicare. If Congress does not act, doctors' payments from Medicare will be cut by about 5 percent annually, beginning next year through 2012, creating a financial hailstorm that would wreak havoc with already strained practices.

Cumulatively, the proposed cuts represent a 31 percent reduction in Medicare reimbursement. If the cuts are adjusted for practice-cost inflation, the American Medical Association says Medicare payment rates to physicians in 2013 would be less than half of what they were in 1991."
The media who refuse to report these facts wouldn't take that kind of pay cut OR any pay cut.

Insurers bad faith is quite common. Examples include:

Linda Peeno, MD comes clean about how insurers deny claims to save money, NOT to follow the policy agreement:
http://www.thenationalcoalition.org/DrPeenotestimony.html

more bad faith, esp. with United Health Care:
http://www.newsmax.com/medicine_men/medical_insurance/2008/01/03/61543.html

attempted end runs to make sure they get their excessive demands met by now using flat out predatory lending practices:
http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/nov2007/db20071120_397008.htm

I could go on--I've studied these things for some time now. On the bright side, the current system could be VASTLY improved with some sensible changes, including:

price transparency--no reason why prices can't be posted up front and before the fact. Many expenses are NOT for emergencies and people should be able to shop around and make an INFORMED financial decision, which they are DENIED now, though this is the ONLY industry in which that is allowed. (If you're a car repair shop and you don't follow the law on estimates, not only are you SOL you may not be able to get ONE CENT for work done. You don't see them laughing at the law much in those states on car repair.)

EVERYONE should be required for all non-emergency procedures, to give the patient the bottom line bill. The insurer should be legally required to pay what he says he will BARRING fraud. Any LIKELY procedures should be simarly costed out and locked in. Example: angiogram? Good chance you'll need an angioplasty and the cardiologist might want to do it there and then. Have him do the medical informed consent AND have the bill costed out for JUST the angiogram AND the angioplasty IF needed--takes a lot of pressure off everyone as well. No reason for anyone to object. We all know if a patient codes on the table, there will be additional charges, but that doesn't happen often and as it is a medical emergency, you have to treat it.

Oh and "compassionate entry" is costing us a LOT. The Border Patrol is told specifically to let in illegals who are sick for care they know the taxpayer will have to pay for:
"Dickson emphasizes that not all the free care is going to illegal aliens passing through on their way to other states. About half goes to Mexicans who use the Copper Queen as their personal emergency-care facility. In effect, the hospital, which performs general surgery, has become the trauma center for that stretch of northern Mexico. If an ambulance pulls up to the border-crossing point near Bisbee and announces "compassionate entry," the border patrol waves it through, and the Copper Queen is compelled to treat the patient. It is one more program that Congress mandates but does not pay for. "If you make me treat someone," says Dickson, "then you need to pay me. You can't have unfunded mandates in a small hospital." Although the Medicare drug act that passed last year provides for modest payments to hospitals that treat illegal aliens, Dickson says there is a catch that the U.S. government has yet to figure out. "How do I document an undocumented alien? How am I going to prove I rendered that care? They have no Social Security number, no driver's license.'"
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,995145-7,00.html

Frankly, more can be said, but if you're interested in a PLAN that makes sense (we need to do something with the huge sums we spend on the government programs we ALREADY have millions enrolled in), then here it is and it's being ignored by the pols because there's nothing in it for them apparently. (I found this months ago and sent a good summary and link to the FREE PDF and the federal level ones ignore the hell out of it.) Check it out and see what you think: no increased individual taxes, no mandates for employers, but a funding solution that solves another problem in the system:
http://www.booklocker.com/books/3068.html

Oh and that plan would work because when you get something close to a free market, it DOES work:

Check out LASIK prices over a decade--did they go up 120% like Medicare premiums did (1998: $43.80, 2008 $96.40) or did they drop like a rock? Why did they drop--few third-party payers involved.

Ditto plastic surgery--look at the cost of a "tummy tuck" which is MAJOR abdominal surgery and compare with a MEDICALLY NECESSARY uncomplicated appendectomy if you're uninsured. The appy will bankrupt you in many cases.

Walk-in clinics (Wal-Mart, CVS, grocery stores) be seen in a short time and treated for around $100--from sprains to upper respiratory infections, strep throat, etc.

Are all states going to be required to recognize gay marriage licenses like the recognize concealed weapons..?

Q. permits from other states?

A. Do you honestly believe that it will stop with gay marriage?

Liberals mock Republicans for claiming that we are on a moral "Slippery Slope," but let’s look at the facts.

Not long ago gays proclaimed: “It’s none of your business what I do in the bedroom!” But their gay “lifestyle” somehow left the bedroom and is today being taught to school children (“Heather Has Two Mommies” is a text book in NYC schools).

Then “the slope” steepened:

-8/18/12 foxnews.com: California law barring parents from 'curing' gay children moves through legislature.

French gays have an even better idea:
-10/11/12 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012… Legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage and give homosexual couples the right to adopt children also would replace the terms “mother” and “father” with “parent 1” and “parent 2” in all legal documents, including birth certificates.

But why stop at “gay rights”?

-11/2/12 http://www.campusreform.org/blog/?ID=448… Evergreen State College in Washington State: A public school’s ‘non-discrimination policy’ allows 45 year-old Colleen Francis, a biological male who identifies as a woman, to use the women’s locker room and restrooms. The police report states that Colleen was “sitting with her legs open with her male genitalia showing” with girls as young as six years old present.

-8/13/12 theblaze.com: Democrat Mary Gonzalez, Texas House of Representative, defines herself as “pansexual,” attracted to men, women, men who identify as women, women who identify as men, and everything in between....”

What’s next? Incest?

Woody Allen had an affair with his daughter-in-law. Morgan Freeman had an affair with his granddaughter-in-law.

How long will it be before Hollywood gifts us with a movie about this couple?
11/6/12 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-…
-A father and daughter confessed on television last night to spending seven years in a sexual relationship and conceiving two children. "John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults." “We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding."

In a recent episode of the History Channel’s miniseries “Midwife” an elderly brother and sister lived together incestuously for decades. When the two died in each other’s arms -- he of cancer, she of suicide -- the head nun (yes, a nun) eulogized: “It’s not who you love that’s important, it’s love itself that defines human beings.”

Oh, look! Here’s another lifestyle!

-2/26/12 http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-co… CBC News, Canada: A Vancouver man is set to go to trial for bestiality. Brian Cutteridge, 38, engaged in sexual acts with his dog. Two years ago he published a paper called For the Love of Dog: On the Legal Prohibition of Zoophilia in Canada and the United States. "He feels very strongly that that should be something that's legal." "He feels those relationship with his dogs are equivalent to a marriage-type relationship...”

And another!
-1/3/13 http://m.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/jan…
“But there is a growing conviction, notably in Canada, that paedophilia should probably be classified as a distinct sexual orientation, like heterosexuality or homosexuality.”

Do I have a future / relationship with this guy ?
Q. How long will we be together for ? Met this guy in Feb.2012 his DOB : 10th Feb 1983 my DOB 25/12/82. We tend to argue often .. What's the future for us ?!

A. Capricorn is domineering and stubborn, I am surprised it is a considered a "feminine" sign, as to me they are quite masculine people for being domineering. You love to rule.

Aquarius hates rulers and thinks leaders should not be living, we find it manipulative. Also Capricorn wants to change others and that is not nice...

I dated a Cap one day and then didn't date him again, because although we were fine, interest-wise, communication, trust etc., he wanted me to dress up in a way, and I found it offensive, because I want to be who I am and you cannot change who people are.

Capricorn is jealous and possessive as well, because you are Cardinal, Capricorns are never spontaneous givers, they are usually givers if they want a favour back, something back and they even force you to give them back. They may give you nothing but pretend a lot in exchange, a bit like Capricorn moons... Aquarius doesn't like that, we love unconditionally offers and that is why we make gifts and never get offended if not returned, because we only do that if we care for someone, it is a way to say we care.

You are also conservative in your views, Capricorns can be very racially discriminative and have crazy Nazi ideas and evil ideas as well, Aquarius is humanitarian and once finds out the negative/evil side of the Capricorn may want to break free, unless Capricorn becomes a good person.

Capricorn is not a kind sign, is very two faced, this will also be a turn off... Cardinal Signs and Fixed signs don't mesh well...

Also Capricorn main purpose in life is to make money, Aquarius purpose in life is to understand their role and beliefs in themselves and in the world... so it is two different worlds, but you may have same music taste, same taste of books etc.

I think Capricorn women are particularly hard to get on with. I was hurt by 3 Cap women and neither of them ever apologized and they did me very wrong things.

I never regret ending the friendship with them, they did not deserve me, but I cannot tell how the relationship with an Aquarius guy could be for you.

CAN WOMAN WITH IRREGULAR PERIODS GET PREGNANT?
Q.

A. I tired for 4 loooooooong years!!! I thought it would never happen:( My cycles were irregular, I would have a period every month...my problem was the bleeding sometimes would last an entire month with only a week break.

I have a wonderful 9 year old son...I had him when I was 18 and not trying at all. I was on BC but of course was terrible at taking it. Anyway, I had my baby and my life was great! I thought for sure when I decided to have another one it would happen right away! BOY was I WRONG!!!

Over 4 years ago my hubby and I started trying again...and nothing! Month after month after month my period came without fail! I had irregular periods...my cycles varied from every 14 days to 45 days and ovulation test never seemed to turn positive no matter how many times a day I took them. So I went to a fertility doctor (actually I went to two!) I was checked and cleared of any issues, my hubby was also checked and cleared...we were diagnosed with "unexplained fertility". Which basically means they have NO idea why you can’t get pregnant.

So this past May I started my period...lasted the normal 6 days and stopped. Then 16 days later it came again...but it did not stop until 33 days later (yep 33 days of bleeding straight!!). Went to the doctor and was told I had an anovulatory cycle (cycle that no ovulation happens) and the constant bleeding was because my hormones were messed up. Finally the bleeding stopped...and never started again. I called my doctor and told her after 6 weeks of no returning period if there was a chance I was actually pregnant. She said VERY unlikely due to my messed up cycles. But I wanted to take a test anyway...my nipples were sore and had been for about 2 weeks straight. Well on August 10, 2011 after work I took a test and BAM...TWO lines!!! Then I took 2 more tests that night and again both strong positives!!! I called my doctor the next day and she was shocked! I made an appointment for my first ultrasound...found out I was 7weeks 4days and the baby had a strong heartbeat:)

Now I am 16 weeks 4 days along...due April 6, 2012 (5 days before my 29th birthday…what an awesome b-day gift)!!! I have my next ultrasound in two week on November 10th to find out the gender:)

What would be a great gift for a girl for christmas?

Q. Shes my girlfriend.. I barely started going out with her and I would like to show her how much I really care for her and that I really do love her. What would be a great gift for christmas? I'm looking for something with alot of meaning. Any ideas? Girls what do you like?

A. Christmas itselft is a gift for you to enjoy romance and excitement that both you and your girlfriend will remember in many years.

Your girlfriend will love the gifts that every girl loves - flowers, perfume, jewelry, jewelry box, chocolates or lingerie gifts. She may like a super-slim iPod that can hold up to thousands of songs in her pocket.

In my opinion,Prepare Christmas Gifts For Your Girlfriend With Breitling Watches. If you think the real Breitling Watches are too expensive,i recommend you buy Breitling replica watches. They are alike as the original ones yet quite affordable. You can easily find a lot of sellers on the internet. For example(www.imitatewatch.com).Do remember only when you get the exact replica Breitling watch, your girlfriend will happy with.

What are some good gift ideas for a pollyanna gift game christmas party?
Q. Some friends and I are having a pollyanna gift giving party/christmas party. We set a $20.00 or more price limit and it's for a group of 14 years old. It's also a mixed party so I need gift ideas for something both girls and guys would like. Thanks !

A. Christmas is the time of year when many families spend more money than they have to create a holiday to remember for their children. With the economy in a downward spiral, saving where you can is important. Christmas is a time of giving, and this is a perfect chance to teach your children to give back.

Giving back

There are many families that are in worse economic shape than you are. Taking the family to a soup kitchen to volunteer during the holiday season will help make it memorable for everyone. It will also help your children appreciate what they have much more.
Thrift and consignment stores

Shopping at thrift stores you can find many items that can be the perfect gift for your child. Most items are gently used and look brand new. You may find the occasional new item that still has the tag on. Starting in these stores is the perfect way to find a multitude of gifts at a fraction of the cost.

Dollar stores

Looking at stores such as the Dollar Store or Five Below you can find some great gifts at a cheap price. Purchasing several of these types of gifts can help fill under the tree and stockings. This can help save money while still making Christmas look plentiful.

Pollyanna

If you have a large family buying many gifts can be daunting. A fantastic way to save money is to do a Pollyanna gift exchange. This is basically putting everyone’s name in a hat and drawing a name of one person to purchase a gift. This will save an enormous amount of money. Instead of buying gifts for ten people you will only be buying for one person.

Cut your gift list

When economic times are good, giving to everyone can make one feel wonderful. Now may be the time to take a look at the list of people you normally give gifts to and decide who you can eliminate from gift giving. This will probably be the hardest part to do as you don’t want to offend anyone. You can choose to give a nice Christmas card instead. In these times it is necessary.

The important thing to remember is Christmas is a time to enjoy your family and appreciate your loved ones. While it may be a challenge for children to understand making a memorable Christmas does not mean you have to spend a lot of money.

What is the best way to save for a childs college education?

Q. Specifically I am in Illinois. They have a program: http://www.collegeillinois.com/en/
Is this the best option? Is there other better options? Is it better to just save money on your own in a mutual fund? Any additional info will help...

A. The optimal solution will of course depend upon your and your child's tax and other financial situations. The best way to solve this is with a trusted financial advisor who knows your situation.

However, it is possible to educate yourself through the Web. There are many sites eager to show you why you should invest your monies with them. You can learn from these sites. But, it would behoove you to take a look at the college financial aid sites as well. Things could change a lot between now and college time if you have an infant. But, at least you could get an idea. E.g.,
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/pay/add-it-up/index.html

Here are a couple non-professional tips from little old me (whose child will go to college next year). Since I am neither financial nor college admissions/aid professional, you really need to validate this for yourself.
You can't start early enough. If you and your spouse make regular annual contributions, you will be surprised to see how quickly it grows from contributions AND dividend reinvestment. Grandparents can be an absolute godsend here. Gift tax laws permit up to a sizable amount per person giving. So, if they are each contributing to your or their account or accounts regularly, the savings will grow fast. Tuition, room, board, fees, and other miscellaneous expenses vary from school to school. If you have a kid in the college class of 2012 who will attend a private university, don't be surprised if the total bill = $225,000 to $250,000... shocked yet? ... and that is for 1 child! OK, if you are a diligent saver and this is a high priority for you, this is possible if you start early enough. Remember, you won't be making $250,000 in contributions. That is the necessary future value of this/these accounts after interest, dividends, and other gains. Most people will not have saved that sum per child. So what do they do? Not send their kids to college? Of course not. That is where financial aid kicks in. You don't need to become an expert now. It is too early. But, it makes sense to get a rough sense as to how the Expected Family Contribution is calculated. You need to know what % of your savings will be "taxed" and what % of your kid's savings will be "taxed" for the purpose of the financial aid calculation. Without getting overly complicated, suffice it to say that there is a big difference between you holding $100,000 in savings for your kid's education vs. your kid holding $100,000 in UGMA/UTMA savings for his/her education vs. your kid holding $100,000 in 529 Plan savings for his/her college education through a custodian! The financial aid office will "tax" your kid's savings to a higher degree than it will "tax" your savings. But, 529 Plan money held for your child is excluded. (I am irritated that I could not quickly find the citation for this; so, you need to verify what I was told directly by an Admissions Director a few weeks ago). I chose not to use 529 Plans in my state way back when because they didn't provide me with the investment options I wanted--too conservative for me. So, I put money into UGMA account(s). For many years that is fine. But for the financial aid applications process in your kid's senior year in high school, UGMA is bad, because it will become 100% your kid's money which will be very heavily "taxed" by the financial aid calculators. One can convert savings accounts to 529s up to the last minute, without a lookback period; but, it requires actually selling and repurchasing the shares with the obvious tax implications. So, talk to your advisor. I suggest investing in 529s. If you feel overly restricted in terms of investment options which have improved a lot over the years, fine, do what you want. But, plan to convert over to 529s at an advantageous time before Dec 31st of your kid's senior year in high school. Of course stay tuned to changes in tax laws and financial aid practices. Good luck with this. I hope this helped a little.

Should my bf tell his family that we are pregnant on christmas or new years?
Q. I'm 4 months pregnant and I would some ideas on how to tell them ? Like example a picture from the ultra sound and give it to them on christmas or new years saying for the new year he will be a dad? .. Can you give me some ideas ? :)

A. I'd tell them soon. Personally I like Christmas better especially if you open gifts together at all. You can give his parents a baby related gift and that way it's announce to everyone at the same time because normally you watch while someone opens a gift.

We gave my in-laws a photo frame with 3 spots. We have 2 kids so they were in the frame and the 3rd spot was a picture of a pumpkin baby and it said "coming June 2012". If this is your first, do it with photo's of you and your boyfriend. Either put baby in the middle or do it like an equation and decorate with a "+" and "=" sign. For us it was great because grandma didn't have a frame with our kids in it yet but she had a couple of my SIL's daughter. Later on you can swap the photo with an ultrasound (or go for that first if you have one) and later on you can put his/her baby photo in there. It's an upgradeable gift and a cute way to announce it.

If you prefer New Years you can make it a toast or a resolution if you have a group discussion about those. I do prefer Christmas though, it's a nice happy 'gift' to share with others.

Its almost my sister's 18th birthday! what would be a nice present?

Q. so its almost my sisters birthday.
and i have no idea what to get her.
as important as big 18 is i wanna get her something special. i only have the budget of $50. please make me a list!

A. nice jewelry--something sentimental (ie heart locket, "Sisters", etc..)

clothing?

a nice dinner out + a small gift

a gift certificate to her favorite store

Ask yourself what her likes & dislikes are and then go from there. Anytime you give someone something they have an interest in, you usually will please them. Like with me....I'm a quilter. I'd be thrilled to get nice fabrics....scissors....scraps.....a mixed assortment. My brother once gave me a sewing machine & a sewing chest filled with notions; he'd gotten them from a friend and then gifted it to me. I was thrilled to death! SO! Think about what makes her happy and you'll find your answer..... Good luck. Hope she has a great birthday.

I Want To Get My Sister A Really Great Gift For Her Baby...?
Q. My Sister Is 13-14 Weeks Along But I Want To Start Saving For The Gift Now, But I Dont Know What To Get Her! She Loves Giraffes And Her And I Are Close So I Want To Get Her Something Personal, I Know My Parents Are Probably Going To Get Her A Crib But I Want To Get Something That Isnt Bottles, Baby Clothes, Or Spit Up Blankies You Know? Something That Is Awesome!

I Love Her So Much! And If You Could Give Ideas For A Boy and A Girl (Shes Haveing A Home Birht Too!) Cause The Mid-Wife, We Havent Seen Her For THAT Yet So Yay!

Baby's Heart Beat; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqmnxkrXcM0

Thanks In Advanced!!!!!! ////////////////////////

A. Make or design (and have made by a local quilter) a beautiful baby blanket. I'm pregnant and that would be something that would have a lot if meaning and be a keepsake forever.

PS. You can even get family photos copied onto fabric. That would be really neat for her and the baby to look at and treasure.

purple quilt-any quilters out there?
Q. I received the "quilt letter"and piece of fabric from my mother in law. The idea is really great but I don't know anybody who quilts or sews for that matter. I need 4 people I can send a 6 inch square of fabric with the letter but I want to make sure they will continue the fun. There is no money involved just fabric! You send two 6 inch squares of purple fabric to a person on the top of the list attached to the letter than you remove that persons name from the list and add yours. Last step is to send 4 letter with piece of fabric in each of them to 4 quilting friends. You should receive 130 squares in return, which is enough for a charm quilt.

I received a sewing machine as a gift and I am very new to sewing. I've made other things but this would be my first quilt. I'm very excited about it and I hope it will work out.

If anybody would like to help please email me.

Thank You
To Little chick: I'm not doing it for a free fabric. I have yards of it laying around everywhere. I am doing it because it's a wondersful idea. If you couldn't help why did you have the need to stop by and write something negative? Why not just move on?

A. I'd love to help you, but the Purple Quilt Letter already went through our quilting guild, so I wouldn't have anyone to send it on to.
Go to the forums at quilting.about.com -- you might be able to find someone there who's interested.

Is this a lame gift idea for my girlfriend?

Q. My girlfriend and I have been together for over five years. I have given her many pieces of jewelry as well as other common and not so common gift ideas. We have been doing it long distance for the last 1.5 years which kind of plays into the theme of the gift I was thinking of giving her for xmas this year. The gift is a personalized throw pillow on one side it is a cute picture of both of my dogs on my family's boat with their tiny dog life preservers on. On the back it is a good picture of us both on a trip Cancun this Summer, in text underneath it says "Cancun, 2012" and centered underneath that "I love you". The pillow is a light pink color that fits in with the color of her bed. I was thinking this would be nice since we do not currently live together as it has pictures of both us together and my dogs that she loves. I am worried however that this is a lame gift... I am also planning on getting her some chocolates or something along those lines and obviously a card.

What do you think, lame idea or a nice idea?

A. No, that is not a lame idea. That is a great gift. I think your girlfriend is going to be very happy.

Where can I buy a Cherry Blossom tree for my girlfriend?
Q. And the Cherry Blossom is her favorite plant, I thought it would be a great gift idea. By the way, I live in Bartow, FL.

A. Check with the cooperative extension assoc in your area to see what grows well there.
Local nurseries, can help too.
IF a cherry tree will not do well there, consider a small bonsai that she can learn to grow indoors- Bonsai take a bit of care, but it can be worth it.

Plan B? Check the local craft store (AC Moore, Michaels, JoAnns...) and get a branch of silk flowers.
- no water, lives forever....

What are some gift ideas for meeting my girlfriend's parents for first time?
Q. I am meeting my girlfriend's parents for the first time in under two weeks. I'm not a 'youngin', so I have been down this road before, but 20+ years ago.

What are other gift ideas beyond wine and flowers? For further refinement, we are meeting for dinner in a restaurant.

A. Hey I think you can get them something practical yet personal. For the mom, you can get her a nice pair of gloves. I recommend you check out KinaRosa on Etsy ( http://www.etsy.com/shop/kinarosa ) These gloves are handmade, very high quality. They are unique yet affordable. My mom loves the gloves. I am sure it'll be a great gift for your girlfriend's mom since it's winter time. If you are not sure what color to buy, go for black, chocolate brown or burgundy red. They are safe colors that every woman loves.

For the dad, do you know what he likes? I think it's always good to go for more practical gifts for men. If he like cigars, you can buy him a nice box of cigars. If he like coffee, get him some good coffee beans. If you really don't know what he likes, you can get him a nice pen. My dad likes pens from Cross. They are not too expensive, but they are good pens.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your gift searching!

What are good stocking stuffers for an 11 year old boy? ?

Q. I know it's too soon but I'm trying to get started on Christmas shopping. I do stocking stuffers for my kids every year and I've been doing it since they were born. They look forward to those little things. My teenage daughter is so easy to buy for but my 11 year old son? He into video games, electronics and gadgets. I used to put little toys but he's outgrown them . Any ideas?

A. Definitely something like rechargeable batteries and a charger if he's into portable gaming. Also, some magazines, like for x-box 360 or a guide to a game he wants for christmas. Gift certificates are also pretty awesome, like GameStop or Microsoft points, Itunes cards...
Even novelty stuff like a fart machine would probably make him happy, although stuff like that may drive you crazy.

What is a good Idea for a Christmas gift?
Q. I am looking for a Christmas gift for my 11-year-old boy who is a computer and video game fan. He loves items for computers and also technology items like small robots and things

A. One idea you should consider is Club Penguin Toys. The neat thing about these toys is that there's a virtual world tie in so he can interact with other kids his age online and play games, make friends, etc.

These toys are selling out everywhere. They're available online at a couple of places. Try going to TheFrugalOne.com (http://thefrugalone.com/saving-money/club-penguin-toys-disney/) where there's a good selection you can peruse.

Another idea is WebKinz. TheFrugalOne.com also has a piece on those toys (http://thefrugalone.com/saving-money/webkinz-ganz-plush-reindeer-toy-dolls/).

There's also the Ultimate Wall-E Robots (http://thefrugalone.com/saving-money/walle-robot-perfect-christmas-gift-kids/)

Check out the following article for some good ideas: http://thefrugalone.com/saving-money/kids-gift-ideas-gifts-mom-dad/

What are some good gift ideas for a precocious 11 year old boy for between 20-40 dollars?
Q. He's very smart, good at science, and has enough video games! He splits time between his mom and dad's homes and they tend to buy him a lot of things so finding something he doesn't already have and also wants is tricky.

He likes computers, tennis, and is quite clever for his age but doesn't really like to read and I'm sick of buying him books for Christmas only to have them gather dust.

Thanks for your suggestions!

A. Well here's an idea - and I did it for my nephew last year. I asked my sister for photos of some of his favorite things - trips, animals, friends. Then I found this awesome website called http://www.ipixxl.com. I edited the photos how I wanted them - then I had several large removable vinyl stickers made for him. This way he can decorate his room with them - when he gets tired of them he can move them around because they peel right off. Maybe one day he will want to take them with him to his own home to share with his children. I think they are a very unique keepsake that lasts forever. Just an idea though!

Good luck!

Any ideas for inexpensive homemade gifts for family and friends?

Q. This Christmas will have to be an inexpensive Christmas for me when it comes to giving gifts to my family and friends. I have been trying to think of gifts that I can make myself without spending a lot of money. My main goal is to make something that people will really like, either for practical use or pure enjoyment. I am at my wits end for ideas. Does anyone out there have any homemade gift ideas for men and women? Can you share some of your ideas that have been real successful? All serious replies are appreciated. Thanks for your time everyone.

A. Baked goods are liked by everyone. You could make up a couple of batches of cookies, get cute plates at the dollar store, wrap in colored cellophane, tie with a colored ribbon and a candy cane and you have nice gifts for your family and friends, without too much expense.

What are some good omiyage gifts to give a host family?
Q. I am going to japan in june/july for 11 days i am going to stay with a host family which may or may not have kids of any age so even though it isn't a long trip i want to bring enough to make a good impression. i'm looking for gift ideas for men, women, teens, children, and people i meet. I live in CA near San Francisco and and have already heard about touristy things like magnets and post cards. i'm look for creative things that would be fun for someone to get

A. Dude, Japanese people in my experience love their merchandise. You live in an iconic area so I'm sure you can get something reflective of where you live. Caps, shirts(can be dangerous as you don't know their size), calenders or even images of where you live. You could try some 49ers merchandise. Japanese also love icons of the world so maybe a model of the golden gate bridge may be ideal or a snow globe of it.
I'm going to stay at a host family too and from Australia. Bringing boomerangs, koala pushes and wombat in a can(it's just a stuffed wombat in soup can, just bringing some Aussie humor).

Trying to find a toast for my grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary?

Q. I am trying to find a great speech or toast for my grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary. I am a terrible public speaker, but I would really like to give them a wonderful toast they can remember. Does anyone have any ideas for the speech, or perhaps where I could find a great pre-written toast.

A. 50th Anniversary Wedding Speech *Free Sample
Use it. It's free!
First, I want to thank all of you so much for coming. I can't begin to describe how much it means to Reginald and me that you are here with us to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

Reggie, for fifty years we have been married. What was I thinking?! I'm kidding, of course. I still remember that day fifty years ago when you became my husband. It was raining out, but you were sure to hold an umbrella over my heard so that not a single raindrop touched my head.

It was a beautiful ceremony. I can remember looking into your eyes as we recited our vows. It was at that moment I knew that my life was finally complete.

Reggie, you've been a huge inspiration to me throughout our marriage. Even when times were band, you always stayed positive. When Emily was born and had to stay in the intensive care unit for several months, you always tried to stay positive for me. It if wasn't for you, I would have completely fallen apart those months.

You've inspired me to be a hard worker. After the twins came and I had to work loses to take care of them, you picked up a second job so that we would have enough money to get by. I don't know how you did it those days when you had to wake up at five in the morning and didn't drag yourself back into the house until ten o'clock that night. You were exhausted, but never failed to give me a kiss, and talk with me about my dya. Sometimes you would fall asleep while I was talking, but I knew you would hear me so I could continue to talk to you.

It is those days that I think about when I contemplate giving up. When I think about stopping work, when the car breaks down, when life throws me a curve ball, I think about those nights when you would drag your tired body into the house but never cared about yourself, and instead turned the focus and your attention on me and my day.

Reggie, you have made my life simply wonderful. I want you to know how happy you have made me, but words cannot describe it. You've brightened by life in large ways and small. Having you wake up next to me for the past fifty years, knowing that you're there for me through thick and thin has made life worth living.

It is because of these reasons that I would like to give you a gift. It's a picture of us fifty years ago and one of us today, with a quote weaving between them. The photos illustrate how our love has grown and lasted, and the quote vocalizes the many years of love we have yet to come.

Thank you so much for marrying me on this day fifty years ago.

50th wedding anniversary gift for a couple who has everything?
Q. My husband & I are going to his Godparents 50th wedding anniversary/vow renewal (having a whole new wedding & reception.) Normally I would have a somewhat good idea however this couple owns several of their own businesses & have everything a person could want. So, for the golden anniversary... any ideas??? Thx in advance!
i have a very limited budget. pertaining to a vacation... they go on trips almost every month!

A. Big anniversary's like 25 and 50 are important. My parents had their 50th 12 years before my father passed. (married 62 years). They did get a few present, mostly from close family. The one I liked was a big bouquet of 50 yellow roses. Red is traditional for love but my mom is texas making her a "yellow rose of texas". Yesterday at the grocery store a dozen roses was 9.99 That means $50 with 11 left for you! Just be sure to buy a large clear glass vase at Walmart. Every guest at my parents party talked about the beautiful roses!

One reason these anniversary's are so important (esp. 50) is not that many people get to see them. I predict there will be fewer and fewer due to divorce. These days "till death do us part" doesn't mean what it did 50 years ago!

Q. My friend is having a baby in february and wants to get her something special. Any Ideas?

A. Please, please, don't get her anything baby related for her birthday. When it's time for the baby shower, get her something for the baby...meanwhile, it's her birthday, so celebrate her!

I might suggest a massage...Many day spa's offer pregnancy massages, which (a) allow her to relax in a way that doesn't interfere with her belly, and (b) will help to relax the muscles that get really sore when a woman is pregnant.

Alternately, there's always the things that the rest of us want, even when we're not pregnant...Diamonds or pearls are always nice! :)

The baby has a hole in his heart so my friend has to have the baby in a hospital 6 hours away and the baby is excepted to have to stay in that hospital for at least a month. What are some things that she could use to keep her busy while she is recovering from the delivery and while her baby goes through surgeries. I know snacks are great but what kind of gift is there that can keep her mind busy while going through such a tough time?

What to get long distance boyfriend of 2 years?

Q. My anniversary with my boyfriend of almost 2 years is coming up soon, and I was just wondering if anyone had any really good ideas! He's not really into sports; he's all about music. His favorite bands are The Gorillaz and Bring Me The Horizon. He is a gamer, and also really likes anime... Also, I'm kind of on a really tight budget. I really want this to be a romantic/cute gift for him, but i'm willing to hear anything you guys have to suggest! I've already done the whole build-a-bear thing for him last year, and made "To Infinity" "And Beyond" bracelets, by the way.
And I'm being serious. We're in a long distance relationship so answers like "sex" are not what I'm looking for.

A. lol, I "lold" at answers like "sex"

Well long distance relationships are becoming quite common and so are new ways to interact with the ones we love who are far away.

If he's a gamer maybe getting him a game that the both of you can play would suffice. If he also really likes anime, I'd reccommend getting these really neat keys custom keys made from KeypersCove.

Here's their etsy
http://www.etsy.com/shop/KeypersCove

I actually found that idea on LDR-Aww.com

But yea if he's into anime, something like that with maybe your initials on them would be nice. Their prices are really good, but if you want something a bit more custom, you'll have to pay a bit extra.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone have any ideas for designing a card for a long-distance relationship?
Q. I am currently in a long distance relationship with a girl that I love very much. I'm planning on sending her a gift, which I already have, but I need a creative idea for a card that will show her I care. Any suggestions?

(So far I've been thinking of a "You are here, I am there" directory sort of thing; on the inside I was going to write "...but we'll soon be together.")

A. I'm also in a long distance relationship, and every now and then we send each other things in the post (as a surprise mostly). Myself, I study art/photography so sometimes I draw a picture of us both when we've been together, or sometimes just doodles lol. He's sent me long letters of how he feels and I've done the same. In one, I remember this being a favourite, he attached a piece of paper where he simply drew around his hand and said he wished he could hold mine, so I drew mine on top (I've got small hands, he's got big ;p ) and sent it back to him.

Do you have any private/inside jokes between the two of you? If so find some ideas which may incorperate those. Are there any things you could send within an envelope which she may like? Perhaps a small piece of jewellery even.

what is the best gift idea for long distance boyfriend?
Q. My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship. He's in Egypt and im in the US. we've been together for 7 months now. Im going to be seeing him a month after his bday...should I celebrate then..and how? and what should i do on the actual bday?

we mostly talk on bbm or fb...maybe i should call? any ideas would really help :) sooo confused
btw he loves music and plays the guitar...should i get him a new one as a gift?

A. I've been in a long distance relationship before so I know where you're coming from. Here's my idea:
I would send him a little package near his birthday. Send him his favorite candies, a special card, and maybe something hinting that you got him a new guitar, like a new pick that has a cool design and a new t-shirt since guys do appreciate getting clothes.

Then on his actual birthday you can call him, he will LOVE that to hear your voice, maybe even skype?

Then when you visit him (If you have enough money, and if not don't worry about, he will already be VERY appreciative and grateful) give him that new guitar :)

What kind of Christmas gift did you get for your special someone?

Q. I'm looking for romantic gift ideas to inspire me to get something sweet for my boyfriend for Christmas. What did everyone else give their special someone for Christmas?

I won't see him until the middle of January because he's away with his family, so I have a little time to figure something out, but I want it to be really special to thank him for sticking with me and being there for me and treating me so well. He's sweet, so he'll probably just appreciate the thought, but I want to make him reaallly happy!

So what did you get your special someone for Christmas? Or do you have any ideas that you haven't put into action yet? Please tell me! And thanks! (:
We've been sexually active, so if you have any gift ideas that are more romantic "in the bedroom," so to speak, I wouldn't be opposed to hearing it! Lol.

A. Get him a Swiss Army Knife.

Christmas gift ideas for my amazing boyfriend?
Q. So we've been dating for a while now and I want to get him something really special and meaningful for Christmas, but my dilemma is I really have no idea what to get him. I originally was planning on getting him a ring, but all of the ones I looked at were over my budget. I don't have very much money to spend, so I'm a little bit stuck because he is such a wonderful guy and I really want to make him feel special. So any ideas on what I could get him for Christmas?

A. It's a bit late to go Christmas shopping. Get him something nice and affordable, you can check these shopping lists out, they're really helpful and its easier to buy stuff through them because its so late.

How can I feel better with my mother inlaw?
Q. I recently found out that i am pregnant with my husbands and mine first child -- very exciting! However I've seen the way my mother in law acts with my now six month old neice, and I'm scared that she will be the same with my child.
It's not that she's being abusive or mean to her, but she spoils her rotten, and goes against everything that my brother and sister inlaw say they want to do for her.
I appreciate that it's her first grandchild and she may go a little nuts over her, but I don't want to be forced into doing anything or have her teach my child that if mom and dad say no then they can go to grandma.

How can I communicate to her that this is our baby and we get to make the final decisions on things?

A. Hi there

This is a tough one, but the most important thing is not to let this interfere with the joy you have right now, of being pregnant.

It's very important that you and your husband provide a united front on this issue. If he lets her do anything she wants because he doesn't want to hurt her feelings, you will have issues.

My own mother wants to do anything and everything for my son, and all along, we have said, "Please make sure that if you're looking at a major purchase, you talk with us first. We have very specific ideas about raising our son." Once, she sent him money (she lives away, so gifts just "appear" in the mail!) for a mobile phone-- at age ten! And my husband and I have all along said "No." So I contacted her and said "We aren't allowing him a mobile phone. What would you like me to do with this cheque?" She had us tear it up, and she actually said, "He's my grandson, I should be able to get him anything I want" (I can almost see you nodding and thinking this is what your mother-in-law will say), and at that time, I said to my mother, "But this is my son, and I live with him every day, and we know what we want for him. Please don't make big purchases without asking."

As for all the other things, when gifts arrive, we put them away until a special occasion arises. I know some of it isn't about "things," but about behaviour, and we make it as clear as possible to our son that some things are not allowed at home, that are only allowed at grandma's. That's a little complex for a littlie to understand, but if you keep it up, that may be the best you can do.

As grandparents they do have "spoiling" rights, but not "ruining" rights. Keep careful watch, and allow both to indulge a little. It's what keeps the grandparent-grandchild bond special. But set your boundaries, otherwise everyone will be miserable, including the "spoiled" child!

Enjoy your pregnancy!! (And don't forget that a few subtle hints along the way won't hurt either!)

What to get inlaws that don't want me to spend money on a present?
Q. They are really my boyfriend of 4 years' parents, but that is too long to fit in the title ;P

Anyway, they know that I am pressed for money and time because I'm at an important year in school. They told me not to get them anything and focus on saving money and studying. However, I know they are getting me something. Do you have any good ideas of something I can make or do for them that won't really break that rule? Cookies, etc?

Thanks ;)

A. Here are a few places where you can make gifts, and they come with instructions...

Another great place to go is www.instructables.com, they have any tutorial imaginable for doing it yourself projects and all instructions are written and with step by step pictures.

I hope this helps.

What are some good gift ideas to get your mother?

Q. Okay I need some good gift ideas to get for xmas for my mom.

A. It really depends, I mean she is your mom so you should know better then anyone. My mom loves the New York Yankees so she is pretty easy to buy for, she also loves disney. Does your mom have any favorites or hobbies? If not sentimental things are always good. You could get a nice piece of jewlery. Maybe a locket with a picture of you when you were younger and now when you are older..

What should i get my mom for christmas?
Q. So, my mom is 50. She's got just about everything imaginable. I'm 15. She's not girly. She is a teacher. She loves animals, especially ours. Any good gift ideas for moms?

A. Gift card at her favorite store. If you can't decide, let her decide for you.

What is a good gift for a son to get a Mother?
Q. I am in the military and won't be home for Christmas what do you think are some good gift ideas for a mom?

A. You should buy something local. Not only does it help the place you are currently resting your head and bring goodwill, it will be something no other moms will get.

Take a picture of you buying it from a local merchant and include a note. It won't get there in time, but you will get the picture of you buying it there in time for sure.

Moms with sons in danger are extremely sentimental.

Merry Christmas!

What is the best gift you received at a baby shower, and why?
Q. Looking for great gift ideas for a baby shower that moms actually use.

A. It was a hand painted porcelin music box. My son loves it and wants it played when I lay him down for a nap and at night. Hopefully he can pass it on to his kids. Also, the same person gave me a large wooden memory box which I thought was so lovely. I used the diapers, baby tub. clothes etc that I got from the baby shower but now that me son is 19mo the only thing I still use is the memory box and music box.
