for th girl u can get nailpolish or lip gloss. twilight would be cool too but that depends on what kind of a person she is. u could also get a cute bag or something but it shudnt b too big and bulky or adult-ish. a watch would be nice too. u could also get a music cd of any kinds of songs she likes.

for th boy, u could, again get a watch (sports watch or digital with games). if he reads comics then u can get archie comics cus they are pretty much universal. if he's into wrestling u cud get him sumthing to do with that like mayb trump cards or other merchandise. u could also get a music cd of any kind of songs he likes.

I recently got a Krups xp4050 espresso machine for Christmas. It was a lovely gift idea but the machine itself didn't work very well - the water did not come out consistently and I noticed it smelled like burning plastic, so I had to return it. Has anyone here purchased an inexpensive home espresso machine that they could recommend?

My personal slant would be to not buy a mug (because everyone always winds up with so many more mugs than we could ever use) or anything related to teaching (because all teachers always get teaching items every year and how much of this stuff can you use or appreciate).

I do think that gift cards are nice - especially ones to Starbucks or to a bookstore, or like the other answer, one to a shop reflecting his/her hobbies or pets.

Big anniversary's like 25 and 50 are important. My parents had their 50th 12 years before my father passed. (married 62 years). They did get a few present, mostly from close family. The one I liked was a big bouquet of 50 yellow roses. Red is traditional for love but my mom is texas making her a "yellow rose of texas". Yesterday at the grocery store a dozen roses was 9.99 That means $50 with 11 left for you! Just be sure to buy a large clear glass vase at Walmart. Every guest at my parents party talked about the beautiful roses!

One reason these anniversary's are so important (esp. 50) is not that many people get to see them. I predict there will be fewer and fewer due to divorce. These days "till death do us part" doesn't mean what it did 50 years ago!

An emergency kit for a vehicle. A lot of times people don't think of those things until they are needed. You can probably find a package or put one together yourself.

Oh, I just remembered on the most useful gifts I've gotten. A hot water pot. I asked for a tea kettle for the stove top but got an electric hot water pot instead. I was unsure about it at first but now I use it everyday. It' a little more than $50 on Amazon but you could probably find one cheaper at a store.

I think you should make a really cool personalized "Baby Book". Normal baby books from Target/Babies r Us are all exactly the same, and they are all pretty average. There are pages that never get filled out, things you want to put into the book but can't seem to find the right page...etc. Here's what I did for a friend's shower and she LOVED it.

Take a 3 ring binder and decorate it any way you choose. Then get baseball card page protectors, regular page protectors, photo page protectors..etc....get her some construction paper and a stack of index cards. Then you can cut the index cards in half and write down anything you want and just slide it in the baseball card sized page protectors. It's SO easy to forget the little things and when it's so easy to grab an index card and jot the memory down there's no excuse!

I am planning on making those for all future shower gifts b/c it was such a big hit. The new parents can write down little things like the first words, the first time they slept through the night, the first time you got a real smile, laugh..etc... and it's really cool.

When my brother got married, they had a lot of kitchen items on their registry, in all price ranges. A neighbor who was invited to the wedding bought a bunch of the smaller items (wisks, ladles, spatulas, measuring cups, etc) and put them all in a basket and attached little cards with recipies on them to each of the items. My brother and his wife loved it because they love to cook, and are ALWAYS trying out new foods and things.

So my suggestion would be to think of things that the couple like to do together, and fill the basket with stuff that will help them enjoy that. So if they like camping, find small pieces of camping equipment like those wind up flashlights that don't need batteries, and bug spray and stuff like that. Or if they love the beach/are going somewhere beachy on their honeymoon, get them sunscreen and flip flops and beach towels...if they like doing gardening, get them a bunch of small gardening tools and seeds that will do well in your area...if they like doing home improvement/diy projects, get them paint brushes and things to hang paintings and stuff in their home....

Think of who they are as a couple, and what they like to do, then personalize it to their tastes.
