What should I do for my Christmas eve baby born 12/24/09 on her first birth day?
Q. My daughters first birthday is a big deal to me, she is my first, one and only child. I need some ideas about when I should celebrate this special day for her since her birthday falls on Christmas Eve and one day before Christmas. How do I get people to come celebrate during such a crunch time. Please help me I have been thinking about this since the day she was born, Im lost and need some ideas.
A. It is a first birthday, and your baby won't remember it, there is no need to make a big fuss. The holidays in general will probably scare the baby, no need to throw some huge party. My mom bought me a blueberry muffin and stuck a candle in it on my first birthday. She snapped a picture, removed the candle and let me eat/play with the muffin for a while. I don't remember it obviously, but I've seen the pictures, I looked pretty happy to have that muffin, and it was a healthy enough treat for a young infant.
If you want to do something memorable for mom and dad (the baby doesn't care, trust me), then maybe look for a small keepsake gift, maybe a nice photo frame to put a picture of your baby on their first birthday in. In years to come you will need to make a bigger deal, so the child has a special birthday, but this is kind of your free pass year.
