What are some good gift ideas for my parents?

Q. I need to buy my parents christmas presents but I'm a bit low on cash. What are some good ideas that won't cost too much?

A. Do you go to a school which offers a (free) shop class? If so, here are some crafts that you can make there:

- A decorative chopping board. Take a rectangular piece of wood and drill a large hole through it. Paint it a crisp blueberry-blue colour using either paint or stain. Take some white paint/stain and place it on a brush. Flick the brush over the chopping board and make streaks of it appear on the blue. Do it on each side and let dry on some paint-pyramids. Ta da! Really easy, my friend did this, and it looks awesome! You could even make a frame for it.
- 3-D Christmas tree. Take two planks of thin wood and cut a Christmas tree design on them both. Take them apart and cut a thick slit in the bottom of one (the width of the wood you are using.) Paint them green and slide the slit over top the other one, forming a whole. Looks really pretty.
- A penguin. Really hard, I made one, but worth it. Cut out the shape of a penguin doing what ever (jumping, walking, etc). Cut out two wings. Paint the whole body white and the two wings black. Glue a wing to each side of the penguin (the wings should go from the bottom of the penguin to the top.) Find thin piece of wood and connect them to make feet. Paint it yellow or orange. Glue it to the bottom of the penguin body and then nail it firmly in place as the glue sets. Take a red ribbon and tie it neatly around the neck. Take two black buttons and use them as eyes. It looks super :D

Other Crafts:
MOM:
- Card
- Seashell necklace
- Homemade picture frame
- Koo-laid Decor (take a fancy glass flask with a lid, fill up with different layers of kool-aid and DON'T mix it. It looks super cool, like crystals.)
- Jewelry box (yes, you may cheat by buying a plain one and decorating it!)
- Paper-mache anything
DAD:
- Wood anything
- Rock anything
- Tin anything
- Outdoorsy stuff
- Weather rock (take some string, two sticks, a wooden platform and an ordinary rock. Glue the first stick to the platform, and then at the top glue the second to the side. Attach the string to the second one so it hangs down limply. Glue this to the wooden platform. Attach the string to the rock. Take a paper and a pen and write down:
"WEATHER ROCK:
If the rock is;
wet there is rain,
white there is snow,
moving there is wind,
motionless there is perfect sun,
bouncing there is an earthquake,
black a volcano erupted or
gone there is a tornado"
Include this with the package.)

Things to buy:
MOM:
- Jewelry
- Purse
- Decorations
DAD:
- Fishing gear
- Outdoor stuff
- Tools

GL, and happy Christmas!

What's the best gift for my dad's birthday?
Q. My dad plays golf and his birthday is coming up really soon! I need a perfect gift for him but I hardly have any money. So I can't go on one of those shopping sprees and buy him like tons of golf stuff. What should I give him that shows I care but is not too expensive? He loves soccer and golf. Any ideas?

A. How about an afternnoon of golf at an inexpensive course for you and Dad.

What is a good gift idea for a vegetable gardener?
Q. Male
57 years old
Birthday gift
(Father, for what it's worth, as far as the personalization part goes)

A. How about a gift certificate for you to till his garden next spring, and if he doesn't own a tiller you pay the rent as well. At 51, I'm feeling the ravages of aging, and I would love it if my garden could get tilled.

Sharpen his shovels and hoes for him, since there is nothing like good sharp tools.

How about one of those headbands that you soak, with the substance inside that keeps you cool while working outside?

Not knowing your Dad, it's hard to say, but my Dad is no longer around, so make sure he knows how much he means to you. Best wishes on your search for the perfect gift for your Dad!
