Q. We have a friend/colleague who is turning 40. What would be a nice gift to give her? Thanks for any ideas. (I'm terrible at giving gifts and usually give money, however in this case money is not appropriate.)

A. The group can pool your money together and give her a gift card to a restaurant. Give enough for her to take her husband if married and if not she can take someone special. Or a gift card to a department store. Just don't give an over the hill prank gift. Forty is a difficult age for some people and she may be having a hard time with her age at this point.

A. You haven't mentioned anything about your birthday person or whether they're a female or male, which might make a difference in your choice of themes. Turning 40 for men is different than turning 40 for women! Anyway, if you are having a birthday "girl", I'd suggest underplayed elegance with a side of humor. Think about flowers for the center pieces. Party favors might be edible ones, such as See's truffles either in their box's with ribbon or in tule with flowers and ribbon. Or, you can consider gift bags, which seem to be a rage these days, and include: chocolate, a nice pen, a favorite poem about getting older and the joys of menopause, bubble bath et al. On the wild side, you could use a theme about women coming into the best times of their lives sexually and emotionally and go from there. For the guys? Well, humor goes a long long way here.
can anyone help with a cruise checklist?
Q. I am going on a cruise to the bahamas and i'm pretty sure i would run out of ideas before it docks back home. so i am asking anyone to come up with a checklist of 101 things to do on a cruise!!! Craziness is ultimately accepted!!! and for anyone who knows. it is the Carnival Sensation.
A. 1. Swimming pool, and hot tubs
2. jump on the beds
3. be really awkward in the elevator
4. eat pizza at midnight
5. run through the halls wildly
6. go to the teen clubs
7. make 20 new friends
8. creep out one small child, a 12 year old girl, and a old man
9. pretend to be a statue
10. Browse the gift shops

12. make sandcastles at the beach
13. skinny dip

15. pretend it's your birthday and make the staff sing to you, then after say it was last week

What birthday present to buy to a women over 40?
Q. I need help here. What can you buy a women over 40, with an expensive taste, when you are travelling abroad? She already has most regulr things...expensive gifts are very risky (chances are she will not like it...and it is impossible to return...cheap stuff is out of question...) any ideas?
A. It really depends on where you're travelling. Local folk art is a great gift, as it can't be bought wherever you live. It depends on what her taste is (expensive is kind of vague). Get her something that can only be found where you're travelling. Objects d'art are always good.
