Creative homemade gift ideas?

deadbeat s

I'm making my friend a birthday/grad present. Since we're parting for college soon, I want to make her something that can be like a keepsake and record our memories. I'm laminating a collage of pictures, but I was wondering what other things I could do.

Answer
Here are many romantic gift ideas:

Each one a classic! If it's just a friend, and not a romantic friend, thiese might still give you some ideas.

Personally, I love the oracle jar idea:

You can use all your knowledge (everything you know about your friend) and make it something incredibly unique that will also remind her of you every single day!

Birthday Gift Ideas For My Best Friend?!?

Emily

My closest friend has his 15th birthday this Friday, and I haven't gotten/made him anything yet! I don't want to buy anything big, he's more into sentimental, personal, homemade things. But I'm completely lost! Any ideas for cute, personal gifts?

Help please, I'm desperate!!!
Thank you!

Answer
Hmmm... If you don't want to buy something big for your best friend, why don't you try giving her handcrafted wooden box. She can use it to store her stuff and am sure she will love it. Take a look at MarqArt Gift Shop collection, am sure you will find one that is within your price range.

Any ideas for homemade birthday gifts for your friend?

Care Bear

One of my best friends brthday is really soon, and i wanna give her a good gift, but not just a gift card because thats what everyone gets her & i wanna get her something that means something to her. Any ideas of what i can get or make her?? She loves sports & friends..please and thanks :)

Answer
When I wanted to think of something creative for Christmas gifts to my friends, I drew them all pictures that reminded me of them. If you can't really draw, there is always scrapbooking and pictures from your camera or the internet.

I know I would love it if my friend made a little scrap book or crazy story about all the fun things we've done in the last year.

Just a thought, but It's really fun to put together stuff like that =)

Homemade gift ideas for friend?

My friend and I always buy each other a gift for holidays and birthdays but always make each other something too. Well I have run out of ideas. We've made cards, posters, and food. lol I just need some suggestions.

Its for a teenage girl who is interested in horses and twilight.

Answer
Have you looked at any of the on-line craft and sewing sites for ideas? Not to mention the arts sites! I highly recommend Etsy::Handmades, which has a huge variety (including quality and prices) of handmade items for sale, if you get stuck for time. If you have time, this site is excellent for ideas (be respectful of copyrights at all times -- it's only inspiration that's free. :-D )

So, anyway, here's just one set of ideas: make her a piece of jewelry. Buy some Fimo or Sculpey oven-bake plastic clay, and make a pendant in the shape of a horse, horse's head, or a motif or symbol from Twilight. (Or buy these style of pendants ready-made, if you have a commercial source for them.)

Then string it onto polyester or nylon thread, or on tiger-tail (superfine metal cable inside a plastic sleeve, very fine and strong), with beads in colors she likes, and finish off with crimped-on jumps-rings and a clasp.

Or make the pendant, and string it on a nice silver chain. You can make several pendants of the same design, and use a larger one for a necklace, and two smaller ones (maybe made in mirror-image of each other) for a pair of earrings. Additional ones can be made into hair ornaments, bracelets, ankle-bracelets, a ring, even non-jewelry things like mobile-phone charms, key-chains, or zipper pulls.

And I didn't even get into the sewing ideas....

Have fun!

What should I buy or make for birthday gifts?

I know this may sound rather odd, but I try to plan financially everything I do a year in advance in hopes to avoid any surprises in my checkbook. Anyways, what should I buy or make for people next year for their birthdays? I preferably want to give them a homemade gift (what are some creative ideas for homemade birthday gifts?), but if that's tasteless I'm open to almost anything.

My best friend will turn 44 years old

My brother, his girlfriend, and a friend will turn 19

Important friends will turn 21, 23, and 24

My boyfriend will turn 27

A dear male friend who's in prison will turn 23 yrs. old

A brother will turn 50 and a sister will turn 40.

My important nieces and nephews between 2-15

Daddy will turn 75 (my mom is deceased)

My other siblings and friends will receive birthday cards.

Thank you in advance as I greatly appreciate your input and advice.

Answer
Wow, organization like that is amazing (if a little scary). Only you know your friends, and your talents (some people should never bake anything for anyone), so suggestions really might not be so good.

For those that like them, how about candles? They are easy to make, all you need is some wax (even from old candles), crayons for color, string (dipped in the hot wax, curled around a pencil on one end, weighted with a coin for the bottom of the candle), scent (or unscented - some people like candles but gag @ the smell), maybe one of their favorites (can get samples sometimes, but oils work best), and a quart or half gallon waxed paper juice or milk carton. This also should prob be done in one of those disposable foil pans.

Melt the wax, adding the crayons, scent (or not). Stir. Cut off the top of the carton where it starts to fold, so that you have just the square. Rest the pencil with the string (wick) on top (the weighted end should be at the bottom of the carton. Pour a little wax in to fix the wick in place in the center of the carton. Give it a little time to solidify (about 20 min-1/2 hr. Stick the whole thing in the fridge or freezer if you want to move it along more quickly).

Get some ice cubes from the tray and fill the carton with them. Stir the wax again (the wax should be hot enough to pour). Then pour it into the carton over the ice cubes. Let it cool & set (give it a couple hrs minumum, overnight is best, or do the fridge thing. You don't want to stick this in the freezer or the water in the carton will re-ice). Peel away the carton.

The ice will have created pockets in the candle and it looks pretty cool, certainly not like a factory candle.

For your friend in prison, baked goods sound like the way to go, perhaps lots of cookies he can share. Or a cd?

Ok, I'm off to finish my Christmas shopping for this year, half of which is still undone!

What are some easy homemade gift ideas?

Q. My friend, age 13, forgot that her sister's 20th birthday was today and doesn't have a present to give her. I need some easy homemade gift ideas for her to make.

Answer
A picture frame:
Cut out words from a magazine, and deco pauge (no idea how to spell it) onto the frame.

This would be easier if we knew what items she had available to help make a gift. A hot glue gun? What?

Its my friends birthday TOMORROW and i haven't got her anything, its too late to go to shopping centers or anything. I need some ideas of what to get her or make her for tomorrow morning.Yes i know I should of been more prepared!! She is quite a girly girl, and don't have that much money to spend on her so around £5- £10. Thanks Guys, hope you can help!!

Answer
It would be really cute if you made her a little gift basket. Fill it with homemade cookies and brownies. Make the bag look adorable with bows and polka dots:) you could also put different kinds of mascaras and lip glosses/Lipsticks in it. Just little knickknacks:) But I would pay more attention to the food

What is a good idea for a homemade gift?

I Choose P

My friend's birthday is coming up on March 7th and I want to make her a homemade gift (I don't have my drivers licence yet and I don't have any money). She's not my BEST friend, so I don't just want to make her a lousy gushy card. What would be a good idea of a homemade gift for her? Thanks.

Answer
I'm not sure what crafts you enjoy doing, but here are a few suggestions:

Beaded bracelet or necklace - I like to make spiral rope bracelets because the beads don't all have to be the same size http://beadwork.about.com/library/weekly/aa081201a.htm

Friendship bracelets were popular when I was a teen, and they seem to be making a comeback http://parentingteens.about.com/od/friendshipcraftsforteens/ss/zigzagfriendshipbracelet.htm

You can also make paper beads with strips of paper cut from magazines http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-Paper-Beads/

Make a bracelet from braided strips of leather, ribbon, or strips of fabric cut from an old t-shirt http://www.marthastewart.com/856347/handmade-bracelets/@center/381713/handmade-jewelry#/309287,

I've also seen bracelets made from pop can tabs and puzzle pieces, and name bracelets made from Scrabble tiles and old typewriter keys.

You can make a cross-stitched bookmark from patterns found on the web, or create your own pattern http://crossstitch.about.com/od/bookmarks/tp/Free-Cross-Stitch-Bookmarks.htm

I once made a bookmark using an old photo of me with my friends sticking our heads into a room through a slightly opened door

You can make all kinds of things from papier-mache made from strips of newspaper and Elmer's glue http://www.elmers.com/about/faqs/how-to

If you knit or crochet, you could make small "amigurumi" stuffed animals. They are usually about the size of your palm, and patterns can be found all over the internet and in library books.

A really good idea would be to check out the craft books in your public library. It is free to use, and you can find a lot of interesting things.

Good luck

my best friend's birthday party is coming up in about a week and I don't have money to get her anything. so does anyone have any ideas of a homemade birthday present?

Answer
hi!
1. make her a card. u could even try a pop up card

these are some good websites (just copy and paste them on google):
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Birthday-Cake-Pop-up-Card-(Robert-Sabuda-Method)
http://www.robertsabuda.com/popmakesimple.asp
the website above doesn't have a pop up birthday card but there are pop up flowers cards for mothers day etc. so it doesn't have to be a cake

you could even print out a card by designing one your self on this website:
http://create.cardnotes.com/create-a-card.lasso

2. bake her a cupcake or cake!
this is always fun! if you have ingredients around your house use them! or ask your mom to get them!
here is a great chocolate cake for cake:
2 cups flour
2 Cups Sugar
¾ Cup Hershey's Cocoa
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
2 Eggs (large eggs)
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Buttermilk

1 Cup Mazola Vegetable Oil
1 ½ Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 Cup Boiling Water
what to do:
Preheat Oven to 300° F
(This is not a typo! This is a slow bake chocolate cake recipe.)
Use Crisco Shortening to lightly grease and flour the
9 x 13 in. Baking Dish.
(It's a one layer chocolate cake!)
Place all the ingredients on the left into a mixing bowl.
Mix at medium or medium high speed until all ingredients are blended and smooth.
Pour into greased and floured baking dish
Bake for 1 hr. (Cupcakes 20 min.)
Test by sticking in the middle with a knife.
If it comes out clean... it's done!
Allow to cool.

vanilla icing:
1½ lbs. (24 oz.) Powdered Confectioners Sugar
¼ Pound Stick of Butter (Softened)
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Salt
Milk
what to do:
Place the powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Add a little milk.
Mix at high speed until smooth and creamy.
Add milk as required to get the right consistency.

3. make a scrapbook of favorateorate memories if you have art supplies! just look up on google how to make a scrapbook easily!
or
decorate your own photo album and have pictures of you and your friends!
websites that might give you ideas:
http://www.simplescrapbooksmag.com

4. Frame a Favorite Quote

Take a favorite quote of a friend or family member. Buy a cfram fram. Or if you don’t want to buy a frame, you could take a piece of tag board and cover it with nice paper. Use your best handwriting or favorite font on the computer to write it up. Put in the frame or paste on the tag board. Wrap it up.

5. Coupon Books

To make this work, you’ve got to whip out your inner artist. Here are some ideas (these are really good for kids to make for mom or dad):

• A car wash
• Spa day by you (manicure, pedicure, facial, lunch, etc.)
• Dog walking services
• Two hours of complimentary house cleaning
• Ice cream sundaes
• A homemade dinner

Think about any talents or special skills you have and use these as a gift. After you’ve brainstormed what you want to do for your friend or family member, cut up construction paper to coupon size, and then write/draw your gift of time.

6.Make Your Own Recipe Book

Does someone you know have a shoebox filled with cut out recipes from magazines, newspapers and the web? Steal the box and paste all of them into a journal. You have just made them their very own personal cookbook filled with all of their favorite recipes. you could even print some recipes out or put your own!

Anybody know any good home made teen gifts?

So, my friend is turning 18 this year, but since her family is really low income, we've decided to do home made birthday gifts this year. I've never done homemade before, and since this is a big birthday for her I don't want to skimp on her gift. Anybody have any good ideas? She's not really into jewelry, cosmetics, or fashion. She does like horses, wolves, a variety of movies, books, and nature. Thank you a bunch!
