Christmas Gift Ideas?

taylor

I'm in need of Christmas gift ideas! I need a few ideas for quite a few different people;

⢠my mom and dad. i want a gift $35 or under. i'm hoping to incorporate lots of photos in their gift. they tend to like gifts that come more from the heart. i loved the photo coupon gift idea from bubbyandbean.com. i was hoping to do a scrapbook, but my further knowledge showed that they cost a lot more than i hoped, and they were much harder. i'd like the gift to be easy to make/buy.
⢠my brothers. they're ages six and fourteen. our family has been running very low on money, so we've all agreed not to give each other gifts, but we're all making cards for each other. i really want mine to come from the heart. please give me quotes/sayings to give to my brothers in their cards and links to cute tutorials or pictures.
⢠my best friend. she's girly, and in love w/ vera bradley. i want to include vera bradley stuff, but i want to incorporate something personal with the vera bradley things.

Answer
Find an digital picture frame, then upload all your/their favorite pictures, or as many as you can for your Mom and Dad. With it being the season, you should be able for find them in your price range. As for your brothers, I got this very cute snowman made from a Hershey Bar, last year. The idea came from Pinterest. A snowman was printed on paper, then wrapped around the candy bar. Felt strip for a scarf and felt folded and glued for a stocking cap. The back had ample space to write Christmas greetings. If you do not access to a color printer for the snowman, you could always hand draw it. It was for a standard size candy bar, but you could adapt it to perhaps their favorite candy bar and adapt it to a favorite sports team and/or superhero. It would be a little more than just a card. . . yet affordable and something you could really personalize. As for Vera Bradley...you are on a budget, it's pretty pricey, but you should be able to find something, for example, some fabric stores carry Vera Bradley fabric. Cover a simple wooden photo frame with fabric and put a photo of you and your friend in it, best of both worlds.

Best friend (guy) graduating college, homemade gift ideas?

phorkin37

He's graduating this year and going to law school. We're from different parts of the country so after he moves, we won't be seeing each other very often (at all) anymore. (I'm a girl). I was thinking about something I could make from a crafts store, like Michaels or A.C. Moore. I want it to be personal and touching. Maybe like some type of fabric poster that is scrap book style with things attached. Any ideas would be of help! I tried looking at pinterest and etsy but they didn't have anything for young adults and male best friends who are moving away. Thanks!

Answer
A piece of art for his wall, showing all the things he likes to do, pictures, show tickets, speeding ticket, picture of you, him and friends, pets, parks, eating out, theater, etc, Any items or pictures that would be fun to him
Remember, when he moves away he will be making other friends so don't put anything on it that would cause him to put it in the closet or under the bed later. Or worse yet, be embarrassing to him..

I was just hired as the lead teacher for a classroom of 14 two-year-olds and I would like to send home a letter and/or craft or gift, introducing myself to their parents. However, I don't want to just send home the same old boring welcome letter, so does anyone have any cool ideas on what I can make/buy instead? I'm having a really hard time finding something online, through friends, or on pinterest... Thanks in advance!

Answer
While your idea sounds nice, think of it from the parent perspective - they dont care about interesting. They care about a person who will have the best interest of their child at heart.

Write a heart felt note with some personal touches.

I love Chicago, and want to make something crafty to show my adoration for it... Any ideas?

niiice kit

My friend is in love with Texas, and made this: http://tinypic.com/r/21dfk84/6
(we're from Wisconsin, btw)

I think it's adorable, and so crafty, and I want to make something crafty and similar for my love of Chicago, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

I've tried searching for something of inspiration on Pinterest, but no such luck..

Answer
The first thing that came to mind was the CTA map. You know, the one with all the trains on it, Red, Pink, Brown, Purple, Blue, Orange, and Green lines. They have gifts at http://www.transitchicago.com to maybe give you some further inspiration, but I've always liked the graphic aspect of the route map, which was patterned after London's famous Underground map.

What's another Chicago symbol? Besides the Tommy gun, which is almost a century old and part of the past that most of the city is trying to forget. How about the Chicago Theater sign? Then there's the Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) sculpture in Millennium Park, the red Wrigley Field sign, Sears Tower (sorry, only tourists call it Willis), the Picasso statue in Daley Plaza, the Field Museum, the Hancock Building, or just the skyline? Most of those are iconic structures and would be easily recognizable in most forms, though there are undoubtedly others I've missed or that have more significance to you.

How to render them would be up to you because I don't know your level of training and experience, what kind access you have to tools, or your budget. I hope I didn't just point out the obvious and you maybe have something to start with.

What should I get these people for Christmas?

Erin

Okay so I need some INEXPENSIVE things to buy or make (preferably make because it could be cheaper and I like doing crafts).
1.) My cousin, Mary
Things to know:
She is 23
She is a photographer
She really likes vintage stuff
My sister and I are making a gift for her together, so it will be from both of us. Make the ideas as big as you want
I already got her a necklace that I KNOW she will love :)

2.) My Grandparents
They do NOT have a Christmas tree
My grandmother is OBSESSED with Paris (I don't know why. She learned french in primary school and now for some reason thinks it's Utopia.)
They have a cat
She really likes DIY (Do-it-yourself) projects. I could honestly glue dirt and a severed hand together and she would love it
Both my grandmother and grandpa like Nutcrackers, so maybe one of them?
I was also thinking of getting them a decoration

3.) My dad
He was in the Navy (He REALLY likes it. He still has his GO NAVY sweatshirt from when he joined it)
He likes to sail
We like to go Antiquing together (That's something we really enjoy doing together.)
He is an animal-person. And he especially likes Dalmatians

4.) My mom
She really likes flowers and gardening
She LOVES chocolate. And triscuits.
She LOVES cats (But we don't have one and we can't get one)
She also likes DIY stuff, and she LOVES Etsy and Pinterest

5.)My sister, Casey
She would love anything, really
She likes Owls, and Antarctic animals (think: Polar bears, seals, penguins, etc... Winter-y animals)
She also loves antiques/ vintage stuff
She is 13
She loves One Direction

6.) My Aunt Jackie
She LOVES shoes and fashion (But mostly shoes)
I can't afford shoes, so don't suggest them.
She also LOVES make-up
She likes to take pictures
I was thinking a big picture thing (Like one big thingy with several frames on it), and having pictures of our family on it.
SHE IS OBSESSED WITH BEING IRISH REMEMBER THAT

7.) My Aunt Madeline
She is a travel agent
She likes fashion and make-up, also
She travels a LOT (This year alone, she went to Mexico, Florida, Costa Rica, London, and on a Road Trip to Maine (we live in Jersey))
She is VERY Irish, so I was thinking maybe Irish-themed?

8.) My cousins, Kyle and Patrick
they are 18 and 20
They are obsessed with Snowboarding
they like video games
They REALLY like food. I think I will get them food.

9.) My Uncle Eric
He likes Whiskey
He likes Cigars
He likes Poker
He likes to cook and grill

10.) My friends
I have a very random group of friends
I want to give everybody the same git (Like maybe I will bake cookies and give everyone some cookies or something)

For DIY stuff, you can leave links
You can do a select few, but the more, the better

Thanks!!

Answer
Your cousin Mary - go into a second hand store and pick up a nice vintage scarf for her
Your grandparents - a nutcracker for grandad and maybe print out alot of stuff relating to Paris and make grandma a scrapbook
Dad- maybe a Dalmatian keyring, or look up online and see can you get him something Navy related. If all else fails maybe underwear or a mug
Mum - some seeds to grow in the garden, a cuddly toy ( Cat ) or a nice big box of chocolates.
Your sister- you can get cheap one direction things like wrist bands posters lunch boxes mugs put a few items together in a gift box
Your aunt - get her a lucky 4 leaf clover keyring or something like that
Kyle and Patrick - a voucher for a take away (fast food)
Your uncle - a novelty deck of cards
Your friends - buy a friendship bracelet set and make each of them one, including yourself

Is it appropriate to have a Christmas sleepover?

Rainbow Co

I mean with kids.I was looking at wikihow when I saw an article about christmas sleepovers,is it appropriate and if it was how could the guests family be involved?

Answer
That's a great idea, especially for grandparents who could probably use the company.

To get them involved you can play games (tons of ideas on Pinterest), do a secret santa gift exchange, have them "feed the reindeer" before they go to bed if there are little kids, do crafts, look at the online santa tracker, go to midnight mass, watch a Christmas movie, bake cookies for santa then leave them out, sing Christmas carols, Christmas karaoke, cut paper snowflakes, tell stories by the fire, make popcorn strings, make your own ornaments,

If it's your kids' friends sleeping over on Christmas Eve then no, it is not appropriate, but if it is family/close family friends then I think it is appropriate.

Is it possible to have a wedding for under 3000?

Crystal

My husband and I are finally going to have the wedding he promised me, we got married in front of the justice of the peace. Anyway we are having a wedding at Mettle beach. Is it possible to have a wedding under 3000? Also any tips? Our colors are aquamarine and white.
@the second answer, we are not asking for gifts. This is something we are doing for ourselves and our families. It was not my choice to get married in front of the justice of the peace it was my husbands and I went along with it because I love him. How dare you call it a joke, I didn't ask for you snotty b**** a** opinion. I only asked if it was possible to have a wedding under 3,000. You have no idea why we got married in front of the justice of the peace or why we are having a wedding. Oh and FYI a lot of people have second and third weddings. Your nothing but a dumb a** with stupid unsolicited opinions. Go jump off a bridge b*****!!
Oh and its called eloping not a wedding!
Why can't people stop being so damn rude! I didn't ask for your opinions about if I was already married or not. If your going to be a bitch don't answer the damn question! Jeez I hate bitches!

Answer
Congrats! And yes, totally possible. My husband and I did our's for under 3000. Let me tell you, Pinterest will be your friend. If you aren't on Pinterest, go check it out now. It is incredible for wedding planning and ideas. Didn't exist when I got married, but I've used tons of ideas in planning friends' weddings. To keep your wedding inexpensive, plan on doing a lot of it yourself. It's a little more labor-intensive, but man, you will appreciate your wedding and love it even more when you've put a personal touch on everything.

Some things we did to keep it inexpensive:

*We designed our own invitations with Photoshop and then only had to pay for the ink and cardstock to print them at home. Look online for a design you really like, and see if you (or friends or family with computer skills) can design one like it.

*Call in favors. We had friends that did photography, floral design, wedding cake bakers, etc. As their gift to us, they gave us great deals for their trades. Everyone has something to offer.

*Catering is *expensive*. You can do it yourself. Either have an appetizer-only reception, dessert reception, or a very simple dinner. We bought a TON of huge frozen lasagnas, had all my girlfriends bake them and bring them, and popped them into rented chafing dishes. We had sides of french bread, salad, mousse, fruit salad, and a cheesecake bar. Our food only cost us $500, for 250 people!

*Instead of hiring a DJ, you can make a playlist of the music you want played, and give it to a trusted friend to man during the wedding.

Best Wishes!
