I was just hired as the lead teacher for a classroom of 14 two-year-olds and I would like to send home a letter and/or craft or gift, introducing myself to their parents. However, I don't want to just send home the same old boring welcome letter, so does anyone have any cool ideas on what I can make/buy instead? I'm having a really hard time finding something online, through friends, or on pinterest... Thanks in advance!

Answer
While your idea sounds nice, think of it from the parent perspective - they dont care about interesting. They care about a person who will have the best interest of their child at heart.

Write a heart felt note with some personal touches.

I love Chicago, and want to make something crafty to show my adoration for it... Any ideas?

My friend is in love with Texas, and made this: http://tinypic.com/r/21dfk84/6
(we're from Wisconsin, btw)

I think it's adorable, and so crafty, and I want to make something crafty and similar for my love of Chicago, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

I've tried searching for something of inspiration on Pinterest, but no such luck..

Answer
The first thing that came to mind was the CTA map. You know, the one with all the trains on it, Red, Pink, Brown, Purple, Blue, Orange, and Green lines. They have gifts at http://www.transitchicago.com to maybe give you some further inspiration, but I've always liked the graphic aspect of the route map, which was patterned after London's famous Underground map.

What's another Chicago symbol? Besides the Tommy gun, which is almost a century old and part of the past that most of the city is trying to forget. How about the Chicago Theater sign? Then there's the Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) sculpture in Millennium Park, the red Wrigley Field sign, Sears Tower (sorry, only tourists call it Willis), the Picasso statue in Daley Plaza, the Field Museum, the Hancock Building, or just the skyline? Most of those are iconic structures and would be easily recognizable in most forms, though there are undoubtedly others I've missed or that have more significance to you.

How to render them would be up to you because I don't know your level of training and experience, what kind access you have to tools, or your budget. I hope I didn't just point out the obvious and you maybe have something to start with.
