Answer
Happy holidays, I hope you had a good one.

christmas question...?

Q. christmas question... okay so as a mommy i have had 3 past christmas times. my sons 1st christmas i lived at home with my mom so didnt have to pay bills other than my car and phone so my son got a lot spent on him for christmas and had A LOT of gifts. his second christmas the older ladies at work were talking about how they missed getting gifts for small children and would like to help out the associates with kids so they had employees with kids who wanted to participate write down their childs gender, age, clothing sizes, and what they liked. my son got about 6 toys and an outfit from that and i bought him 3 toys and an outfit. last year money was tight bc i was on my unpaid 7 week maternity leave so we had 1 income. my son got like 3 toys, a pillow pet, an outfit and had some candy/matchbox cars, and a dvd in his stocking. my daughter got a 2010 christmas teddy bear (since it has the yr she was born on it to keep as a keepsake thing and a little stuffed snow man in her stocking. .... so for 2/3 years our christmas's have been really small. this year im thinking of getting my son his first bike with training wheels (all he has now is a redflyer tricycle), a helmet, and an outfit (and stocking stuffers of course) and getting my daughter a baby doll, outfit, new shoes (and stocking stuffers) are my kids going to grow up thinking my christmas's stunk and were nothing special if they only get a small number of things? is it okay for now, but i should up the gifts as they get older??
also, my kids both have birthdays in the winter..my daughter is in november and my son is in february. they have huge birthday parties.

Answer
Well, our focus in regard to Christmas is on Christ. We do gifts, but we save big/multiple gifts for birthdays- that breaks the expense up, too.

I think that your children are getting PLENTY. Honestly, one year we did do a "big" Christmas- it was not meant to be that way, but I had bought more than I realized and they were overwhelmed by it all (not in a good way) and it was too much clutter to bring in at one time. Especially at their ages, keep it simple but even as they get older (I have four children ranging from 13 to 1) you do not have to go overboard.

christmas gift...?

Q. well my boyfriend and i have been dating for almost 2 months. we had a "thing" for each other for about a month or 2 before that. we do have love in our relationship. and we just recently found out that he is moving from Kansas to Montana. and what i want for Christmas from him is jewelry. i kind of want a promise ring. like to promise that he will still stay truthful and everything to me while he is in Montana. we still plan to stay together when he is moved. so is a promise ring a reasonable gift? only serious answers please! thank u much!

I don't have any money to buy my dad anything for Christmas.I am 13 years old,and everything on the INTERNET is for young kids to make arts and crafts for their daddy.I need ideas for something to make my dad for Christmas. Please Help.Any Ideas that you have, I'll take them.
Thank You!

Answer
Humm.. that sounds tuff. Maybe you could try:

Step 1: Go to Elfyourself.com
Step 2: find a photo of you dad
Step 3: make an "Elf" of your father,
Step 4: at the bottom, it says you can buy your own mug, computer mouse pad, etc. With his face on it!
That doesn't cost too too much if you had a little money.

Another idea is just take an old mug, cup etc. and...
Step 1: Get sharpened pencils, pens, scissors, markers anything else office like
Step 2: in bold marker, write "DAD'S NUTS AND BOLTS" and draw things your dad likes on it!

Very cute, and cheap

What does your dad like to do? Does he farm? interested in cars? sports? woodwork?
make a homemade calender for 2010 with photos of him with his cars, or at sport games. or just of his favourite thing to do! :)
I did that last year. turned out good!

Hope these ideas help! :D
Merry christmas!

Fund raising £3000 in a year and a half...is it possible?

lucy_m123

Im 16 and in 6th form and i need to raise £3000 by july 2010 for a trip to Uganda to help teach kids english.... do you think its possible? and if so, any ideas on ways to raise it? any suggestions welcome :)

Answer
First: yes it is very achievable
Second: be open to fund raising in different ways
Third: Capitalise on the fact that you are a young person and people / companies will be willing to help you out in achieving this goal for a worthy cause. - You hold more power than you think you do.

Fund Raising ideas include but are not limited to:
- having a draw for a gift. You can create gift baskets for various occassions - like thanks giving, halloween, christmas, valentines etc. Get a nice basket and then approach businesses - anything from hair cuts, spa stuff, kids stuff, cars, magazines, chocolates, food, flowers, golf - your imagination is the limit...but stick to your theme...Then approach about 20 businesses for a donation. Display your great basket and sell tickets. Voila...you've made $250 - $500 Sell your tickets reasonably. You may be asked by your city to get a license to sell tickets - under a charitable organization...depending on how anal they want to be with you.

Have a silent auction. Go with a theme. ASk for daonations to your worthy cause. The key is location and marketing the silent auction. Some hotels may offer you space for free - being this is a fund raiser. Parks are good too. its easier to piggy back onto an event that is already taking place. For example - if the local Rotary club is hosting an event - then approach them to see if you can get your silent aution to be held as some event. and voila... the pace is packed...you sell donated art work and make another $500.

Be a shadow server at a popular restaurant - and explain to all the customers yous erve that the tiops they give is going to your cause... you'll need to get the restaurant on board to advertise the event and pair you with a really great server.

Go on the radio or local TV morning show with a popular radio / TV host - to advert a fund raising event - 5 minute spot. No cost to you.

Think about the things that are popluar to your city / town and try to come up with an idea that can get you interacting with people at the event - and raising money. - oh yeah - christmas present wrapping at a shopping mall is a good fund raiser - enlist help of course. Get a company to GIVE you the wrapping paper ribbons etc... so everything is pure profit.

Approach a school board - or school staff to see if they have any ideas for fundraising....being this is about teaching.

Hope this is helpful. Best of luck raising the money and teaching in Africa.

Answer
How about creating Artist Trading Cards and then getting your friends involved and trade with them. Determine a theme, and then create Artist Trading Cards based on that theme. For example, one theme could be "Fantasy" and you could create anything that you can think up, like unrealistic creatures. Another theme could be "Things that make you feel good" and you could create cards that include whatever in life makes you feel wonderful, like music, or games, etc. You could even create your own virtual world on Artist Trading Cards! By creating the themes, you are challenging yourself to think in creative ways. Artist Trading Cards don't have to just be things you draw, either. You can paint or use other embellishments to create miniature works of art. The possibilities are endless! And because the trading cards are so small, they are easy to create and make a wonderful hobby. Artist Trading Cards are fun for people of all ages. Here is an article that explains how to get started:

Make your own booklet's or mini-zines! This craft is fun and easy to do and requires just a single sheet of paper. Here's how to make them:
http://site.escapadedirect.com/blog2/2010/10/06/october-is-national-do-it-yourself-month-create-your-own-greeting-card-books/
You could use this idea to create your own "business card", filled with information about you and what you like to do. You could hand these out to new friends you meet. A very unique way to create a "business card".

Another idea is to create Worry Dolls. Worry dolls are small colorful dolls that you put under your pillow at night to take your worries away. You could make a bunch of the dolls, then donate them to a local children's hospital for the sick kids that are there. Here is an article that shows you how to make them:

Create collage posters or collage postcards. Here's an article that shows you how:
http://site.escapadedirect.com/blog2/2009/11/25/art-works-series-activity-13-thankful-collage/

Create placemats, coasters, or decorate boxes or cans with magazine rods! This is a colorful project that is easy to do and has amazing results. Here's an article that shows you how:
http://site.escapadedirect.com/blog2/2010/04/14/recycle-craft-magazines-rods-make-unique-art/

Create shrink art! You can use this project to make buttons, decorations, gift tags, zipper pulls, and so much more! Here's how: http://www.escapadedirect.com/shrinkart.html

Make small gift boxes or party favor boxes. This is an easy project and makes a nice gift. Here's how: http://www.escapadedirect.com/giftbox.html (link includes template you can print and use).

I hope these ideas help - have fun!
