Gift idea?????

Coworker is quitting this week and she was my best friend, my mentor and like my sister too. We worked together for almost eight years. We traveled a lot together and done lots of things like sisters do and now she is leaving this week and i just don't know what to give her. I know we'll keep in touch but work weâll never be the same with out her in the office. The day she told me she was quitting, we both couldn't stop crying for hours and even talking about is making my eye filled with water so please please help me out finding a perfect gift that say everything i want to say before she leave.

first off, i would take a collection from all coworkers, and get a cake, and go out for a farewell lunch if you are in a office setting.
Then with the rest of the money that is left, either get a gift card or a nice piece of jewelry.
That is what we always do for people who are leaving.

My boyfriend is leaving in a few weeks to go to Medical School and I want to give him a few things that he could use while he's there. I was thinking about doing a gift basket filled with various goodies and tools and scrub tops with his name on them (my aunt does embroidery). I just need some ideas on what I should include in this gift basket. Thanks for any input!
