I am thinking to move to Homestead since you get more for your money if you compare it to miami. We are moving from Puerto Rico and we have a 6 and 4 year old. Education is very important to us since both of our children are gifted and they are into chess, ballet, piano, girls scout and taekwondo. I am a clinical psychologist and basically I am looking for a very relax, tranquil, friendly, family oriented community with a good elementary school near. Any ideas? I would appreciate any feedback about Homestead. My husband will be working in Medley and I heard that traffic is so intense that it can take him an hour and a half to get there from homestead is this true?

Answer
Miami Dade County has a mediocre public education system at best and the schools in Homestead are among the worst in the system. Probable reasons (this my personal view): They have a high proportion of migrant worker kids & the schools are such outlyers (far from the rest of the county) that teachers transfer out as soon as they have the seniority. The ONLY thing you get more of for your money in Homestead is housing -- because it is so far out. The best public schools are in the wealthiest areas like Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay or Miami Beach. If your kids' education is your absolute top priority then either move into one of these top neighborhoods or look for a private school.

How to start Christmas traditions / present ideas?

Apollonia

I'm 21 years old and I've got a 2 year old daughter, and a 7 year old sister (My dad's daughter) I have custody of. I'm adopting an adorable 4 year old little girl. I'll have her in time for the Holidays, Her social worker said we'll have her in December. I'm decorating her room for one of her Christmas Presents. What are some ideas?

We just moved into a home that looks like this: http://www.blogcdn. com/www.luxist. com /media/2010/12/a12152261.jpg ((Without the spaces)

It's a little smaller than that though, just a little but we do have those two Porches / patios. I'm gonna wait to do the tree until we get Linden. I'm getting Stuff this weekend, but I need a little help.

Present to get for:
-Parents (Mom and Step-Dad)
-Daughter
-Sister
-Soon to be adopted daughter
- 1 Step-Sister and Brother (Twins- 19)
- Half sisters (Twins- 5)
- Little Brother (He's 4 months)
- Older triplet brothers (28, My dad's sons and family. One of them has twins, 2 girls [4], another has 2 boys and a girl [8, 3 and 2] and the other, 3 girls and a boy 1 and 9)

I'm so terribly sorry it's a little messy, but it's the only way I could explain this. I also need stocking stuffer ideas for my kids.

Thanks in Advance, Apollonia

Answer
You have a lot of family to buy for, so personally I would put the emphasis on traditions and family not presents. I have twins and I let them write down or tell me 3 things they absolutely had to have for Xmas and I told them Santa would definately bring them ONE of what they wanted. Now some years they got all 3, some years they got just one of what they wanted and the rest of the toys were what I thought they needed. This gives you some wiggle room. If your finances are tight one year the kids don't get dissappointed. You also might not agree with what they want and have to use your parental judgement.

One tip: don't put the tree up right after Thanksgiving, wait until around the 15th. The kids get so crazy with excitement for so long its to big of a buildup.

Christmas traditions that are easy to start. Hot cocoa and cookies with a Xmas movie. Everyone has to watch make the movies longer and more age appropriate as they get older. Pop popcorn and string with the 7 year old. Perfect you and her time. Make paper chains and decorate then glue together. The 2 year old can color the paper chains with the 7 year old. You help with the glue. The dollar store has construction paper for this.

Decorate the outside trees with lights.everyone can help.
Bake Xmas cookies. You don't have to get fancy you can make em from scratch or buy the dough from the store. You only need 3 or 4 cookies cutters and 2 or 3 colors of sprinkles. all the kids can help with this, expect a mess. I use a Xmas vinyl tablecloth every year for the project the kids love making cookies on top of Santa. Its great just clean and put away for next year.

Make a birthday cake for Jesus the day before Xmas. Thee are so many small traditions you can pick out. the kids are young so add one or two into the mix every year. I also started the tradition of new pajamas Xmas eve. That is the one gift they get to open xmas eve after church.

Hope this helps some
