best gift ideas for 6 year old boy image

So my husband has a college that gives us LOT of very nice clothes his boy outgrew... THey don't want anything for it, so I though I would buy christmas gift for his son. The problem is that I have no idea what might be a good present for 6 year old. I've never met him, don't know what he likes and my boys are far younger, so I don't even know what school aged kids like. Please help. I would like to spend no more than $30 on this.

Girl - I have 2 little ones to buy for 1 1/2 and 2 1/2, and recently I have gotten them: learning toys, a shopping cart, a case that has 9 objects in it...3 circular, 3 square and 3 triangular. An animal on one side, a flower on another , and some of them open up and have something that moves inside. They both loved it so much, I had to go back out and get another one.
Boy:
A truck, maybe an 18 Wheeler with a cab? A train? Wrestlers? Spiderman or The Hulk or The Rock action figures. A lot of small things and put them in a box. Like a hand held game (They are about $10) a deck of cards, toy soldiers....I don't know....
