My beloved mema is turning 80 and my cousin and I are planning her party. Its not a surprise but I need some ideas. I think we are settling on an Irish theme. (Any other good theme ideas??) We're having it in our house in August. She has 9 kids and 35 grandchildren. Do you think it would be tacky to send a save the date? We havent seen eachother since her 70th birthday so it would almost be like a family reunion. I already am putting together a scrap book with memories from all the kids and grandkids as well as pictures.
I want to stress that my mema is in EXCELLENT health so we don't have too many restrictions.

For one of my friend's grandma's big family birthdays, they rented a party hall and decorated it all. They even wore some specific color scheme.
For presents or table favors, you could include nice wine or champaigne, smaller family photos, candles as centerpieces like maybe bowls or vases with colored rocks and a candle floating on water...handmade flower and ribbon ones...maybe making her a special seat at a special table that's more decorated...
Lots of little gifts is cool but chipping in for one or two really expensive ones is too.
If she's part Irish like one side of my family, I would love that theme! My grandma would too. You could have some band hired and play oldies type music too like Sinatra stuff, etc, or whatever she likes.
A big cake and flowers for sure
I really love when people decorate the chairs with covers or tie a big ribbon/translucent sheet around them. You could do gold, green, white
People could take turns toasting her or talking about memories :)
A guest book for people to sign is easy and fun too!

we are celebrating my wife BD next week she is 40, I want to make special. I have some ideas but I need suggestions specially from ladies who passed 40!
