What is a good idea for invitations for a cultural gathering?

Q. I need to make creative invitations for a party in the college office at my school. It's a small gathering [like 30 people]. I am being graded on my work. We're having a potluck and gift exchange. I need help!

A. Wrap around the World; Make a ribbon or gift wrap or ballooned themed card or flags of many countries and serve "wraps".
Using Large Flour tortillas:
Canadian wrap: smoked salmon cream cheese with a sour cream, cucumber and dill sauce within
Latin American Wrap: beans, rice and corn with a mango lime salsa
Mediterranean Wrap: Lamb meatballs in tomato sauce with feta cheese.

Using large rice papers:
Thai Wrap: Chicken, peanut sauce, cilantro, bean sprouts, rice noodles
California Wrap: avocado, shrimp, salsa and alfalfa sprouts

Japanese Wrap: Nori wrapped around rice and fish with wasabi and pickled ginger
Chinese Wrap: Egg rolls with plum sauce

Japanese culture has a gift wrap called a "furoshiki" which is a piece of fabric with a picture on it. It is used to wrap gifts. They are so beautiful that they are as nice as the gift. You could do a Japanese theme for your part, using Japanese food for your food contribution and making origami animals and all sorts of clever things for the invitation cards.
