Christmas gift ideas for a guy returning to Iraq?
Q. Hi, I'm looking for Christmas gift ideas for a guy (we're close friends) who is leaving for Iraq right after the holidays. I was thinking of giving him a digital photo frame. Any other great ideas out there? Thanks!
A. He really can't take too much with him, so you may want to give him some small stuff that he can carry and wait to send him anything big like a digital photo frame in a care package.
My son deployed this past June and he sent everything personal that he owned home with me when he cleared out his room. Anything that he wanted to take with him to Iraq had to be approved by his sgt. before packing. I have gradually sent him a few of his things in care packages. One thing that he really likes to get are games he can play on his laptop (he bought that once he was there, and will send it home before he returns).
Some things that he asked for immediately were a small state flag (we live in Texas), fingernail clippers, disposable razors, batteries and snacks.
If your friend is religious a good gift would be a St. Christopher medal. You could have it blessed. An electric razor is also good. Or an electric toothbrush -- anything small and transportable that helps with personal grooming.

What are good souvenirs for guy friends from china?
Q. Okay so i'm in shanghai and I need some ideas for some gifts for guy friends and where i might be able to get them. I mean would guy friends like keyrings? Phone charms? Guys are soo difficult to buy for.
A. depends on their age. this one guy used to sell wickedly strong lasers by the street near my flat in beijing for like 10 bucks. dwarfs anything you'd get in mexico. teen boys loved it, but u gotta know if they can use em responsibly yet.
you can buy em some communist merch if they're the anti-establishment type.
for the goofy ones, one of those awesome panda hats you've probably seen a thousand times. pandas are generally in now anyways.
elder ones, maybe some fresh tea. bulk. and make sure they know to wash it first. (hot water in tea, strain out water, re-pour hot water, then drink).
boys might be fascinated by some of the weird food or other stuff you can find packaged, Or buy a thing of pringles, but get one of the weird china-exclusive flavors....(you'll know which ones when you see em).
young to middle aged adults, you can buy the classy looking chopsticks. You can find ones that look and feel like real man jewelry but don't cost much. or a mug or shirt with a cool looking dragon on it. sometimes they come in a set. You can find plenty of pipes there too. even if they wouldn't use it a classy looking pipe can give a guy some serious man points.
also, someone once bought me a sword from there and flew it back without problems.
