How to deal with best friend leaving? Also need gift ideas?

My best friend is leaving to go to a new country, (and not coming back) and I don't know how to deal with it. She's been there for my toughest times, and I can't stand to see her go. I was thinking about making a stationary set, with paper, pens, pencils, stamps, envelopes, and whatnot to send to her so we can keep in touch. But I also want to send her a gift that she knows she'll always be with me. What should I send her?

When I had a best friend I'd always give stuff such as Best Friends bracelets but now were to old to wear them now because we're all grown up.You should start asking her before she leave her address,phone number, and her yahoo account if she doesn't have one tell her to make one and when she's away you can I.M her & if she leaves on to the country and you don't know her email call her, if the country is far away you should try getting a card {My mom does this} she'll buy a card to call my relatives far away and ask her for her email.
Gift Ideas: I think giving her a bracelet or something that you think she'd love that says forever or anything that means friendship you should give it to her,make her a custom made card to her and probably something she really loves and of course put BFF'S in the card because well though your far apart doesn't mean you still can't have her as a friend..

so my best guyfriend is leaving for the navy. my friends and i want to get him a meaniful gift to give to him before he leaves on oct 24th. any ideas? i thought about a photo collage and a photo album but he doesnt like gettin his picture taken so we dont have many pics with him. like one. lol. but i was thinkin somethin we could engrave? idk. ideas?

Roxy girl, If your friend is going to the US navy then i can help because I was a Sailor. If he is gonna be a US Navy sailor then there's only three personal items he will get to keep at great lakes.
#1 A bible(koran torah ect)
#2 A Religious neck chain of some sort (nothing like something master P would wear) =)
#3 number three might be the most valuable. A long distance phone card with like 1000 minutes on it.

Hey Roxy I don't think the rules have changed much since 2005 but at boot camp you get a few chances to call back home and trust me its the worst feeling of being the only one without a calling card or money.good luck to both of you.

Coworker is quitting this week and she was my best friend, my mentor and like my sister too. We worked together for almost eight years. We traveled a lot together and done lots of things like sisters do and now she is leaving this week and i just don't know what to give her. I know we'll keep in touch but work weâll never be the same with out her in the office. The day she told me she was quitting, we both couldn't stop crying for hours and even talking about is making my eye filled with water so please please help me out finding a perfect gift that say everything i want to say before she leave.

first off, i would take a collection from all coworkers, and get a cake, and go out for a farewell lunch if you are in a office setting.
Then with the rest of the money that is left, either get a gift card or a nice piece of jewelry.
That is what we always do for people who are leaving.

Well i got an idea that my friend did and i don't know if you would like it but she made a story book for me talking about us two from day 1 that we met till the day I had to leave with some pictures of special moments and occasions added to it and other special little things she done e.g. bracelet, a drawing of me and her...etc. and I don't think it would cost alot but would need alot of time.

Get some of those key chains that you can put your picture in for your friends. As for a gift for your Dad make him a scrapbook of pictures from his childhood and school days,picture os things and places you and he shared.

Q. Every year me and my friends make a present or each other and this year i have no idea what to do for their presents. They are both girls aged 16 and i have no idea what to do please help.

Go to the local craft store and buy: 2 small rectangular gift boxes, 2 sets of earring hooks, assorted beads, needle nose pliers, tissue paper and coloured yarn.
Go to the local supermarket and buy: chocolate melts, coconut, condensed milk, malt biscuits and chocolate sprinkles.

Crush 1/2 packet malt biscuits and pour into mixing bowl along with 1/2 cup coconut.
Pour 125ml condensed milk into saucepan and stir in 1/2 cup chocolate melts. Stir over low heat until Chocolate is completely melted.
Pour chocolate mix into biscuit and coconut. Mix well then put in fridge for 10 minutes.
line the gift boxes with tissue paper, leaving some hanging over the edges. Place a layer of mini cupcake cases along the bottom of the box.
Use a teaspoon to scoop a small amount of mixture into your hands and roll into a ball. Drop in either coconut or chocolate sprinkles and place into cupcake cases. Alternate between rolling them in coconut or sprinkles. When done, put back in fridge for an hour. Then take out, wrap the tissue paper hanging out of the box lightly over them and secure with the lid and a big bow. Put back in fridge until ready to gift. You've just made homemade truffles!

Google "How to make your own earrings" - there are many how to's online and they're very easy to follow. You can also google "How to make your own friendship bracelets" - there are hundreds of designs to choose from. Make a pair of earrings for each friend, add a few friendship bracelets and a box of homemade truffles.

if your friends like hemp bracelets you can make them some. hemp is very cheap, it comes in a lot of colors and its easy to find (hobby lobby, joanne fabric). its super easy and bracelets usually dont take more than 15 min each. you can add beads and get really creative with it. guys even like them too!

If your friends are going to Paris for the exchange, consider getting this book - The Patisseries of Paris (http://www.amazon.com/Patisseries-Paris-Chocolatiers-Salons-Parlors/dp/1892145529 ) - it is essentially an address book for the best bakeries, patissiers, chocolatiers, ice cream parlors and tea salons in Paris. This way they can do some food exploration in the city ;)

Still in keeping with Paris as destination, you can also get Moleskine of Paris (http://www.moleskines.com/klcn001-pa.html ) which not only works great as a note book (it's small so it's easy to carry), it has a map of the city center area, the metro/RER network map, spaces to write down addresses to go for good food, to shop, to see small gigs etc.

Another gift alternative for someone in Paris would be a Paris Museum Pass (http://www.parismuseumpass.com/en/home.php ). As they can be used only on consecutive days and your friends on exchange will probably be attending classes etc, they would have only free time at weekends? If so, you can get 2-days PMP and they can plan how to utilise it to the fullest, visiting some of the biggest sites of attractions in Paris.

If your friends like to read and wouldn't mind some light hearted anecdotes, check out the books by Stephen Clarke such as "A Year in the Merde" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Year-Merde-Stephen-Clarke/dp/0552772968/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234035329&sr=1-4 ) which is very entertaining with quite a grain of truth in them. He also has a few other books which kinda continue on with the theme etc, but I wouldn't advise reading them back to back. It's all done quite tongue-in-cheek that even my French friends who read it laughed over it.

If books are not quite the thing, how about getting an event ticket in France that you think they would like? There are lots of concerts, opera, outdoor performances, sports, dance shows etc and you can look for tickets on FNAC (http://www.fnacspectacles.com/ )

I hope some of the ideas above helped but if you have anything more specific, e.g. where they will be when they go for the exchange, when will they be in France, if you have specific gift budget amount or even where you are from etc, that may help in trying to come up with (hopefully) even better ideas.

She already got a plaque from the company, and a bottle of wine and cheese and crackers from the owners.. We already have each others numbers and things as well!

Q. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for gifts to give my friends when I leave for college to remember me by. My other friend passed out letters to our group of friends which was really cool but I don't want to do the same thing.
