What is a creative gift Idea for my 12-year-old sister?

Q. What's an original gift idea? Like, not an iPod, giftcard, or cellphone? It can be a bunch of items, themed or random, or one bigger item. My budget is 40$ Thanks in advance!

A. 1 - Fashionista girl: Buy a plain tote bag from a craft store (like Hobby Lobby) and decorate it. You can sew/applique some different fabrics (that match, of course) to make a design or just as a color theme. Rhinestones, glitter paint, ribbons, etc. are also great. Awesome gift, and she'll be the only girl wearing it! She can use it to put her school books in or whatever.

2 - Sweet girly girl: Make a photo album/scrapbook with pix of you 2 together, your pets, family, vacations, etc.

3 - Hippie girl: give her a gift that's good for the environment as well, like a basket filled with stuff like organic chocolate, all natural lip balms, recycled jewelry, etc.

Other ideas:
If you know how to crochet or knit, try making her a scarf. (Crocheting is easily learned)

Find a brownie recipe and layer all the dry ingredients in a jar. That way she can just combine that with eggs and milk and she has a yummy treat! (Don't forget to decorate the jar! ;))

And remember:
No matter what kind of girl she is, chocolate is always good! =D

Good luck and happy holidays!

In a 1 1/2 pint jar, layer the bouillon, to the Bay leaves. Tap jar so ingredients settles.

Wrap the pasta in a baggie, and place in the jar. Seal tightly.

Attach a label to the jar with the following instructions:.
TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from top of jar, and set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, brown beef and drain excess fat add garlic to brown slightly. Add diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and soup mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the pasta, cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until the pasta, peas, lentils and barley are tender.
Season with salt and pepper if needed.

What are some good recipes for homemade Christmas gifts?

Q. I am already planning on making fudge, and toffee but would like some more candy or dessert ideas
I am also looking for some gift jar ideas/recipes. I already plan on one for chocolate chip cookies and homemade hot cocoa. I would really like a good recipe for a blueberry muffin one if you know of any.

I have a large family and want to give each of the adults (24) a gift somewhere along these lines, but I don't want to make all the same things so any ideas?

A. Flavored sugar is a great 'gift jar' gift. I used a spice mill to grind dried lemon, orange, lime peel (separately) and added them to sugar with a drop of food coloring shaken in for effect. I also buy a bag or two of sugar every January and go to the whole foods store and buy vanilla beans (they are cheaper). I make a slit down the middle lengthwise (careful not to go all the way through to the other side) then I place a bunch of these beans in an airtight jar with the sugar and leave it alone until Christmas. Then I put it in jars and give out. The lime sugar and the vanilla sugar seem to be the most appreciated. Especially by tea drinkers and bakers.

You can also take last years fruitcake (you know it lasts forever) and crumble it up. Then, dip your hands in a little water or flavored liqueur and roll into small balls and place in a pan to dry overnight. Then melt some choc chips in the microwave (one bag choc chips and 1 teaspoon Crisco for shine) dip balls and place on wax paper til chocolate sets. This recipe makes fruitcake lovers out of anyone who loves chocolate (esp. the dark chocolate).

what kind of gift jars can i give using cereal?
Q. id like to make gift jars for my family this christmas and i have a ton of rice krispies, kix and cornflakes that i would like to use in the jars somehow. thanks for any ideas !

A. A twist on this is to make a savory crispy chicken coating using cornflakes, kind of like homemade super yummy shake n bake. I'm sure you could find a recipe on line.

If you do the sweet cereal bars, I would pack the marshmallows separate, since that's the way those recipes cook up.

I admire your resourcefulness!
