gift ideas for adoptive grandparents?

Q. Greetings all. Our daughters adoption of a beautiful baby girl will be final in October. We want to fine a unique gift for her. Ideas please??

God bless

Answer
A photo address book of all the adopted family, with their title at the top of the page eg Grandma, then a photo of Grandma, then their real name Mary Smith, then their address, phone number and date of birth.
All the relatives. It makes you feel more secure to have all the family there in a book together. I think every adopted child should have two of these, one of the bio family and any friends (adult or child) who were important in that life/world, and one of the adopted family.
A locket with pictures of both parents is nice too, (bio or adopted parents or both).
And a framed family tree with her in it.
All these things are nice given from either bio family or adopted, and make you feel more secure. I made my photo book myself when I was a toddler, because I felt the need to put it in print - you know like putting something in writing feels more permeanant/definate than just thinking or saying it. I wanted solid evidence.
Being given them as a gift would have been nicer.
You could also plant a tree for her, so it will grow with her.

Help with gift idea!?

I made my grandparents a origami vase with origami flowers. It looks really nice and took a lot of hard work. I ran out of time to make my parents something. Any idea what I could make them? I have about 5 hrs to work.

Q. I know this is off the topic, but I am not getting any answers in the adoption section. I would love to hear your ideas....

thanks sama and footy

Answer
Have a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a Rosary laced along the lower edges. It will be her first heirloom. Also give her the child's wooden beads. You can also get her a Baby's enrollment in one of the many Catholic organizations: Marians of the Immaculate Conception (Marian Helpers.com) Oblates of Our Lady of the Snows (Illinois).

Billy Crystal wrote a beautiful book for his unborn grandchild titled, "I Already Know I :Love You." Such a beautiful story.

There are books for grandparents to write their story so that children will know their family story. I have a book for a Grandmother's memories that I will include my husband's input. I told him we can write with different color ink.

The most important gift is to love this precious child.

By the way, my daughter placed her baby for adoption to a wonderful family. The parents adopted three children and our little girl was the second child. She is now 13 years old. We are blessed to have an open relationship with the parents--totally unexpected blessing! My husband and I see the family about 3 times a year!!! My daughter married the birth father when the little girl was 12! Praise God I didn't say anything to the father or his family that I would have to eat my words. Not bad for an outspoken fighting Irishwoman!

Congratulations to your new little darling.

Gift ideas for holidays and sweet 16 birthday?

Allie

The holidays and my birthday are a few weeks apart and I don't know what to ask for as a present. A car is out of the question because I won't be getting my licence and my mom doesn't want to get me a puppy even though I have wanted one since I was a little girl. I don't want something to expensive but I want my gift(s) to be meaningful. I need some ideas to tell my grandparents, aunts and uncles. Any ideas?

Cheap ideas for Christmas gifts for new grandparents?

My husband and I just had our first baby making our parents first time grandparents. We're not looking to spend a bunch of money just looking for some good priced gift ideas for them. Any ideas are appreciated.

Answer
Why not give them a digital picture frame (available from approx. 30 $) and 'feed' them with baby pics as baby grows?
Or make them a home made calendar with baby pics (that's a great gift to give every Christmas!). You can buy these calendars ready-made and just have to add your pics. For one calendar months you can also make a hand or footprint of baby with watercolors. Do it yourself calendars are available at amazon.
Or make a hand- or footprint (footprint normally is easier) of baby in clay and your parents can use it as a Christmas tree decoration. See here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/christmas-gifts-for-baby.html - section baby hanging keepsake, holiday.
Another cute Christmas gift is a snowglobe where you can insert baby's picture. That's not just the
'boring' baby picture frame ;-). Check out amazon for photo snow globe.

Hope my tips are useful! And congrats on your new baby!

What can a 2 year old make (or help make) as a gift for family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc)?

bumblebee

I'm trying to think of gift ideas for my 2 year old to make or help make for her grandparents and aunts and uncles. I don't want anything like coloring a picture or anything like that (we've done that so many times already!) I'm looking for unique and creative ideas, preferably ones that are fairly inexpensive. Thanks in advance! :)

Answer
I'm planning on making snow globes with my kids and they are 2 and 3 1/2 years old.
Materials
Glass Baby Food Jar & Lid
Glitter
Baby Oil
Small Figurines (about 1-1.5 inches tall)
Glue
The instructions are on this website (along with other craft ideas)
http://www.babybumpdiaries.com/how-to/easy-toddlers-christmas-crafts/

Another idea I found and want to try are fruit loop sand decoration vase:
-You take a box of fruit loops and separate the colors and then put each colors in a bag and crush them into sand
-then get a nice looking vase or glass container with a lid, and pour the different color of fruit loop sand in.

Pine cone decoration (also on the website I listed above)
-put glue all over pine cone then sparkles!
-tie ribbon or string to top

hot chocolate ice cream cones (I saw this on Oprah a few years ago)
-take one of those triangle shaped cake decorating bags and put hot chocolate powder in to look like the cone part, then mini marshmallows for the ice cream part and chocolate chips for sprinkles, tie the top up with ribbon

hope that helps!! Good luck!!!

Need some great gift ideas for a large family and little money?

Mz K

Times are not as good as they usually are this year. Does anyone have great gift ideas that cost little money? I have a large family. Serious answers please :)

Answer
what about a family tree dvd. copy it and give each member a copy to add their own family to it. i got one of these from an uncle some years ago. he put it together using old photos. starting from my great grandparents up to my youngest cousin. now i have to add my family to my copy and pass it on when the time is right. cheap to do. just collect all the photos you can and tell people you will return them, but dont tell them what they are for. then surprise them when everyone is together at chrimbo. if you can, copy it for them, if not they will be delighted to wait till after xmas.

What is a good gift idea for a 1 year old that is not a toy?

It is my nephews 1st birthday and my sis does not want any more toys for him cause he already has too many that he doesn't even play with. Any creative gifting ideas?

Answer
I can understand that, but he will probably play with them later as his attention span is longer.

Perhaps a board book, or a name sign for his bedroom door. Maybe he needs a shelf or two in his room, or a toy hanger or chest. You could even think about starting a bank account for him, it doesn't have to be a lot, and have yourself as trustee, maybe along with your sister, so that you can deposit easily for future birthdays and Christmases. Just $10 a time would be quite a sum when he grows up and is looking to get his first car or pay for education, etc.

One thing I have done for my grandson is collect new coins and stamps each year on his birthday, all of which I will give him on his 21st. It's not for the monetary value, rather for the interest and historical value and the desire to have something unique from his grandparents. His parents know nothing of this, but just in case, his Uncle does.

Answer
A plant - Poinsettia, Bamboo, Bonsai Tree

If you have an Olive Oil & Balsamic Tasting Gallery near you, go and get either Blueberry or Raspberry - they are great on salads and unbelievable on ice cream. Here's what it looks like: http://oliversevoo.com/

A nice scarf for the females

Make loaves of Banana Nut Bread or Pumpkin Bread

Other desserts:

Fudge

2 Cups Sugar
2 1/2 Tablespoons dry Hershey's Cocoa
2 Tablespoons of butter or margarine
1/3 coup white Karo Syrup (corn syrup)
1/2 cup condensed milk
1 cup walnuts (shelled and chopped)
1 teaspoon Vanilla

Combine all ingredients except nuts and vanilla. Stir together well. Bring to a vigorous boil and boil for 5 minutes.

Remove from flame. Allow to cool for 10 minutes. Beat vigorously to make it creamy. Add walnuts and vanilla. Stir and pout out onto waxed paper lined square pan.

NOTE: Do not attempt to make cooked candies (this fudge recipe) when the weather is rainy, very cloudy or wet fog.

Isabellas (Oatmeal Cookies)

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
