Seems like people could shred colored paper in a paper shredder & make their own grass for Easter baskets instead of buying plastic grass, then recycle the paper. I've done it for packing gifts for wrapping & shipping. (Besides, I think we used the same baskets & grass for 10 yrs when I was a kid.) What else could be done?

Answer
How about if you do buy plastic Easter eggs, you keep 'em, use them again and again year after year instead of disposing them. They are washable. I like the paper shredding idea.

Does anyone have any ideas for how to design a boiled egg for an easter egg designing competition?

Q. I would appreciate if you included info on how to make the idea you have:)! I don't want to just paint the egge or something. I need ideas like these:
- EGG Factor, etc
- Ideas which I could incorporate an egg into

You might look to some different manicure techniques? Fingernail polish for really intense color and shine, with different doodahs on them. I have seen all kind of different blending and stenciling techniques on peoples' nails. The only caution I have is if the egg needs to remain edible then you shouldn't do that. Proper Easter egg dyes are non toxic in the event that the color leaches through the shell to the egg. I suppose another issue might be if for some reason an ingredient in nail polish proved damaging to the shell...like ate through it or something.

You could also try tie dye effects with watercolors, dipping at different levels to blend colors, sponge techniques. You may even try some sort of spin art situation if you could get your egg attached to something that spins, then drop some color on it. These might be old hat but if you do any classic technique really really well, then it still works.

You could paint them then dip them wet in a glitter or even a colored sand.

Here is an image search for inspiration. What can you do with these ides?

Then...try a spun sugar basket. Or make a batch of cupcakes or ice cream cone cupcakes, and frost them white, and plunk an egg on each one. Display them on a tiered serving tray.

You could start with a vintage character metal lunch box, and decorate your eggs to match the theme of the lunch box. Then using your gift basket assembly skills...build up the box. Display it lid open facing the viewer. Layer the box with a pretty napkin in the bottom, some plastic silverware tucked in here and there, and pretty foods and nestle your character eggs in with it. For example if you have a Scooby Doo lunch box...do an egg in each character...little headbands on the girls and don't forget the glasses on Velma and Shaggy's chin hairs, etc...wrap the napkin to look like an ascot they all wore around their necks...then tuck the eggs in, a few doggy biscuits for a scooby snack, some cherry tomatoes for contrast...and vintage Hot Wheels mystery mobile van and/or Scooby salt and pepper shakers. You could do it with anything...I remember lunch boxes for A Team, The Dukes of Hazzard, every single cartoon or kids show, and even some bands. Wouldn't that be fun in a Kiss theme? Little Gene Simmons Easter egg? hahha!
