What is a good red wine and a good fruity wine?
Q. It's almost christmas and I'm looking for some last minute gift ideas for my girlfriends parents. The mother loves fruity wines and the father loves red wine. I need to find two wines, preferably wines that I can find at an LCBO or a winery in the Toronto area. I'm very inept when it comes to wines and all the help that can be provided would be very appreciated.
Thanks

A. A good choice for sweet wine:
Rieslings have a floral aroma. They range from very dry and crisp to intensely sweet depending on where it is from. German Riesling is slightly sweet and balanced with some acidity. California Riesling tends to be sweeter.

A good choice for red wine:
Zinfandel can be light to full bodied. It can be rich and spicy or lighter and fruitier. Aromas and flavors that are typical include raspberry, jam, black pepper, and licorice. A specific Zin suggestion -

Renwood 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel
The 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel is medium ruby in color. The bouquet consists of brown sugar, caramel, sage, eucalyptus, and bursting with dark berry fruit. The flavor is a sumptuous blend of warm blackberries on the entry, with a hint of dried fruit, finishing with sweet fleshy tannins.(around $20)
If you can't find Renwood other good wineries are Rosenblum, Serghesio, and Ridge.

Good luck!

What are some good baby shower gift ideas?

Q. My sister-in-law is having a baby shower next month and I am not sure what to get them for a gift. They registered for mostly high priced items that are out of my price range. I am looking to spend about 30-40 dollars on their gift. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

A. The thing I appreciated most for my baby shower wasn't the cute little onesies and thumb-sized socks, although they were adorable. My friend got me a little divided-up basket filled with things like baby nail-clippers, one of those little nose-suckers, a thermometer, etc. There was baby shampoo and lotion in it, and Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Plus some lotion and bath salts for me. She also gave me these hand-written coupons. There was on for a weekend where she would watch the baby, one to take me out for lunch, things like that. The cute clothes and stuff like that are great, but that one I got was very personal and thoughtful. I still use the basket to put diapers and wipes out in the living room so I don't have to go all the way into baby's bedroom when I'm cooking or something.

What are a good brand of pens to ink comics with?
Q. Alright, so one of my best friends is a great artist and is really into comics, so I thought a good birthday gift idea would be to buy him some good pens to work with. However, while I'm an artist too, I don't typically work in ink so I have no idea what kind to get for him. Does anyone have good suggestions? I'm working on about a $30-40 budget. Thanks for the help!

A. If he is already using a brand of pen, I wouldn't suggest you purchasing anything other than what he already uses. Artists tend to work most comfortably with the tools they know. The risk of you buying something else, for your friend is that he may put them away and never use them.

I have gone through years of using art pen nibs, crowquill, Rotrings, RapidOGraphs and many others, but, I finally settled on plain, old, ordinary, Sharpie Markers for what inking I still do on paper. They are clean, easy to use and, for drawing in the field, are readily replaceable at, virtually, any grocery or convienence store and bait shop all over the nation. If I needed a replacement Rotring, I'd have to go out and find an art supply or stationery store. There might not be one handy in the middle of the Mojave Desert, Yosemite Valley, or the Western shore of Lake Tahoe.

If someone asks me what kind of art supplies they can get for me, I ALWAYS suggest a gift certificate. That way, I can be sure to get EXACTLY what I need.

- Bake him a heart-shaped cake
- A big heart-shaped box filled with whatever he loves: DVDs, fishing gear, guitar strings and picks, etc

What is a good DIY going away and christmas present?
Q. My guy friend is moving on Christmas eve so I wanted to make him something for Christmas as well as a going away gift. Any ideas? Thanks in advanced!

A. $100 (or what you can afford) gift card from big-box home improvement store and a boxed xmas meal.
The cost of moving into new digs can be overwhelming.
Gift cards are great b/c the receiver can use them over a period of time. Don't worry about the "thoughtlessness" that some (like my mother) associate with this kind of gift - he'll love it. If not, you can come back and punch me in the nose.
I'd take a gift card over any other gift, given the timing of the move.

What should I make my friends for Christmas?

What Are Some Fun Gift Ideas For Boyfriend?
Q. I've been going out with my love for over 2 in a half years & we're still strong, but we never ever give each other random little gifts throughout the year. Only on our birthday & Christmas.
So I was wondering what are some fun gift ideas for just any random day?
Could it be maybe a card?
A written letter?
His favorite candy?
I don't know!
Can I have ideas?
:)

A. Bying a boyfriend a gift has become something usual, sure it will make him happy, whatever you bring him, but i strongly suggest you make it something really special.
If you wanna go with the usual, get him some T-shirt or an arrangement of beautiful stuff containing a bear some heart bla bla bla, or even you could get him a deodorant...whatever you get will serve it's purpose.
BUT, if you really wanna make his day, or even his year, you better come up with something original, if he doesn't usually spend the night with his family, you can take him someplace spend some time together in a beautiful place and tell him this is my christams gift for you (if he spends the night with his parents, take him out the night before christmas). Now that's one option, get creative with your gift it doesn't really have to be something materialistic, for example this year I'm inviting my boyfriend to a candlelight dinner at my house, the two of us alone, i'll cook dinner myself. Anyway, another example, if you're cut cheap, and you don't have lots of money to spend on that night, but still wanna make it special to him, just think of whatever he likes, and do it for him, in other words, make a wish of his come true.(of course within the budget).
Always be original, get creative, and the most important thing, surprise him with something he wouldn't expect, it'll take his breaths away.
As for random days you can always buy him candies, chocolate bars, anything, really anything, it's not that hard, because he'll love the idea that you thought of him.:D

Gift ideas for my 17 year old boyfriend?
Q. I am two and a half years younger than my boyfriend and ive never had to deal with buying a christmas present for a boyfriend that old.. any gift ideas for my 17 year old boyfriend?

A. . For example, No stress hat http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.551005695 and gym bag: http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.551005698
Nice gift is an object associated with what YOU LIKE (rather than he likes) because when using it hell associate it w you. For example, cute throw pillow (benefit in that his parents may appreciate it) , for example cute owl throw pillow http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.525022325
Matching T-shirts are also fun, for example, for you:
http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.528414849 and for him http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.528414869
this way youll get present not only for him but also for you, which is great

What are some gift ideas to get my boyfriends parents for Christmas?
Q. Should I do a joint present or individual presents?
They are still married, money is not an issue, they already have digital photo frame, digital camera, they enjoy going out on the boat on the weekends, she rides horses, enjoy cooking/grilling. What about decorative items for the house? I saw a cross that was hand crafted- it was really cute. I don't know just needed some fresh ideas!

A. Depends how much you want to spend or what you want to get. If something big, do a joint present.
If you want something small, Wine is always good. Do a gift basket with wine and cookies/chocolate.
Or gift cards are always safe!

What are some great gift ideas for 6 year old girls?

Q. I would like it to be in the $20-$30 range please. She has PLENTY of dolls and doll accessories.

A. Password Journal. This is available at Wal-Mart, Meijer, Target, Toys-R-Us, etc. They usually range from $20-$24 plus tax. Works great if the little girl has brothers (or even sisters) who might tend to snoop into what she writes. It's my understanding that it is a voice command password, so it's in her own voice. Hopefully they wouldn't learn her password and/or be able to mimic her voice. I checked into it for a friend's 6-yr-old and the journals are rated anywhere from 4.5 to 5 stars out of 5 possible, so sounds like a sure thing.

2nd idea:
Crayola Glow Station or Glow Globe. Also available at the same type of stores. This would be great for girls who are creative types, and there are several kinds to choose from.

Hope this helps.
Have a great day,
BubB

A. congrats on 7 years!!! most people hate my coupon book idea. but I love them. it's meaning full cost effeient and did i say personal..

Any good anniversary gift ideas for good friends' 7th wedding anniversary?
Q. Our budget is kinda tight right now. I'd like to keep it less than $50. They are wonderful friends, and I feel stumped. They like wine, dining out, and couple's things. They do not have kids. I was thinking perhaps a gift certificate to Maggiano's...but would rather give them something more tangible. I would love some ideas, thanks.

A. The traditional gift for a 7th wedding anniversary is something in wool or copper. Brass is a more modern version. In recent times, desk sets are the traditional gift. I'm sure any one of these things could fit within a $50 budget. This website has some ideas of things to purchase in these materials:

http://www.happy-anniversary.com/year-of-marriage/year-seven.html

I would think the trip to New Zealand would be a little over the top, but many of the others could be easily affordable. Plus, there would be meaning behind your gift - not just a gift certificate (although, it would still be fine if you couldn't come up with anything else...it's really the thought that counts).

Good luck!

What are some good ideas to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary?
Q. What kind of project could I make or buy or do for my hubby? We're having a dinner with our family to celebrate but I want to make or create something neat for him. Maybe somehow incorporate the 7 year itch theme?

A. Wow... you sound like you are the perfect something for him.
Love it when couples care about each other.

How about mixing up some silly stuff with some romance!

Your having dinner with your family this would be the perfect time to
incorporate the 7 year itch!

The day of the dinner go to the restaurant in advance of the dinner.
Give management some presents you want in the middle of the table when you all arrive. Also give them "backscratchers" to be placed at each persons tabletop seat (get these at the dollar store with perm. marker print on each one....
"___husbands name____official 7 year itch scratcher"!

Also a special cake they can bring out after dinner, you can play this
up with the seven year itch or you can have a special heartfelt one.

When all arrives the tone is set...gifts in the middle of the table,
favors for all at each seat. After dinner have the cake brought out
then let him open the gifts (last thing you do before leaving the
resturant).

In the wrapped presents there are clues to your big surprise, which is
a Romantic Hotel Room you will be whisking him off to after dinner. Have a special bag packed for him and you, include swim wear for the jagguzzi! Pre-make breakfast reservation for the next morning, have a basket waiting in the room with his favorite treats, new slippers, etc. and if he loves a car he wishes he had rent it for the week-end and have it waiting in the resturant parking lot. Some suggestions for gifts with clues would be.... A " key (any kind)" you hold the key to my heart, but I hold the key to a surprise! Another could be "lotion" with a note..."I will be the one scratching your itch tonight but not in a familar place". The last one could be..." A fly swatter" with a note that
says,"I may bug you, but I want to be the one to scratch your itch"
on the fly swatter a card with a big bow on it, inside the card a key to the hotel room letting him know you are whisking him away for the evening and if you rent a car include the key make sure you let him know the car is only for the week-end. Let him know his bags are packed and your whisking him away!

If you have kids, plan with the grandparents or others for them to spend the night and take care of them after dinner. Perhaps you can have a surprise bag for them with age approp. treats and surprises for each to take with them.

Enjoy each other and your years together. You found a needle in
a haystack and by your caring message you will be able to hang on
to your love.

Congrats on 7 years and soooo many more to come!

What brand/kind of sunglasses does James Bond wear in Quantum Of Solace?? VERY IMPORTANT!!!?
Q. My dad has asked me for the exact sunglasses that James Bond wears in Quantum of Solace for Christmas. I have not seen the movie and I have no idea where to start on this hunt!
Please help! Specifics appreciated!

A. I'm wearing the *exact* sunglasses as I'm writing you this reply. :)

They're Tom Ford "FT 108 19V" glasses. If you want to know where to buy them, go to www.tomford.com, go to "Where to Buy", and it lists retailers that carry them.

They're absolutely stunning - I paid about $350 for them. They come with a "Tom Ford - James Bond 007" case, matching soft cloth and box. Great presentation, and makes for an awesome gift. :)

Since you haven't seen the movie, this is what they look like:
http://www.gearfuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/tom-ford-james-bond-sunglasses.jpg
If your dad wants the exact James Bond look from Quantum of Solace, be sure to get the "19V" color, which is silver frames and blue lenses just like the picture.

I need new ideas for a birthday gift for my husband, can you give me choices ?
Q.

A. **Smiles sweetly at you** please? best answer?

OK here are a few global faves, not in any specific order:

1. Romantic vacation

2. A zippo lighter

3. a electronic shaver

4. One great gift idea is for designer sunglasses. Men want to look stylish and cool and designer sunglasses can help them accomplish that

5. Not all men drink beer on a regular occasion but quite a few husbands enjoy coming home from work and having a beer or two to unwind. Instead of always having to pick beer up at the grocery store it is a great idea to give your husband a kegerator as a gift. These are little mini keg refrigerators with a tap.

6. Name a star after him

7. Car toys, digital camera, mini DVD player

8. Buy him something he needs with money you collected. Like not something from the credit card that he has to pay for in the end

9. romantic spa

10. to test drive hs fave car

11. his name origin

12. a tuxido. Something that makes him look like 007

13. tell him your pregnant (only if you are though)

14. Gibe him breakfast in Bed with 2 tickets to a romantic spa hidden in his eggs somewhere cleverly covered with plastic

15. a five star cruise

What are some nursing home gift ideas to give to the elderly?

Q. I love to help out at the nursing homes and I was wondering if anyone knew some ideal gifts or entertainment to give to the elderly?

A. That is great that you help those in nursing homes! I'm sure they appreciate you!

Here are a few gift ideas:

Stationery, note cards, note books, assorted greeting cards, writing supplies, postage stamps, address book, magnifying glass..
Magazines, books or puzzle/word search books in large print size..
Grooming aids such as brushes or combs, nice smelling shampoos and hair conditioners, lip balms, moisturizers, hand lotions, powder, etc.
Fleece blanket throws for the colder months.
Paint-by-number art sets.
Large size/small count jigsaw puzzles.
Blank page drawing books and markers or color pens/pencils.

what can you give to and older person who is bored because of injury and having to stay home all day?
Q. what would be some good gift ideas? i mean something that relieves boredom? she`s in her 70s.
thanks.

A. All elderly gals love movies right!? Ask her what her favorite actor/actress is and what her favorite movie and/or series is. Than you can go buy the DVD (Im sure its on DVD/Blueray by now) and a big box of popcorn. Usually the big boxes have about 6 to 12 bags in them. Than cook it up and watch the movie with her. This is just a suggestion. Im 23 and I know that this is something I would love someone to do for me, especially if I were an older women with nothing to do. Thats the only decent idea I can come up with. Another idea is you can buy her some magazines and/or books. Make sure if you buy her a magazine and/or book that you buy one for yourself to so you can do it with her. To spend some time with her.

Christmas gift ideas for an elderly neighbor?
Q. We usually give our neighbor who is older a little Christmas gift each year. I'm out of ideas this year. She is active and apparently not hurting financially. Do you have any good ideas?

A. A plant for her house or garden. A planted poinsettia perhaps.

Some home made treats from your kitchen unless she's on a restricted diet.

Maybe some special teas.

Do you have a gift idea for an elderly, partially blind grandma?
Q. I love my grandma and she has recently lost all her sight in one eye and only has about half her sight in the other. It's something she isn't used to. Last year I got her a book light/magnifying combo system and some large print books so she would be able to read. Anyone have any ideas for this year? If there's anything you know of that would make this easier on her, that would be wonderful. Thanks.

A. If she likes literature get her some 'Talking Books' that will tell her the stories so she doesn't need all the paraphernalia.

What is the best gift for 5 year anniversary?

Q. I am 21 years old and Im a female. He is also 21yrs old.
I really do not know where to take him or what to get him?
Creative ideas.. please :P

A. A nice idea for a fun and unusual anniversary gift is a Photo Collage Jigsaw Puzzle? I'm sure you have lots of photos so a personalized gift such a Photo Collage Puzzle is a great way to bring together those memories.

Check out this website below to get some ideas. Send a collection of your photos ,15-25 photos usually works best. You can also specify the words to a suitable song, poem or other words which will stand have meaning to them. Let the professional designers create a unique photo collage layout for your approval before making it into a puzzle. Don't worry, you get a chance to review and approve the photo collage design before they make a puzzle. Once completed, it can be framed and put on the wall as a keepsake of the anniversary.

What are some good gift ideas for Christmas 21-f?
Q. What are some good gift ideas for a 21 year old female who does not drink a lot, has lots of cds and dvds (so she doesn't want more) does not wear make up, or wear jewelry, has an i pod, cell phone, computer, etc. And no expensive gifts... (under $100 please).

A. I think it depends on what your relationship is to her, her personality, what kinds of things she enjoys, etc.

If she lives on her own, maybe a tea-for-one teapot with a selection of specially flavored loose leaf teas.

Possibly a nice crystal flower vase. You're never too young to start collecting beautiful things.

What is a good birthday gift for a 21 year old female?
Q. So I need to get a birthday gift for my best friend who is turning 21 soon and I am completely lost on ideas. :( I want to get her something fun and memorable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! (:

A. You should get friendship bracelets for both of you! I just got a pair of beautifully well made bracelets today from a leather bracelet shop. They have really cute couple bracelets and my friend loved hers. And it's significant because you can wear the bracelets day to day and the leather looks awesome on guys and girls.

A. Your Boss get something really nice. Maybe a nice pair of gloves or a leather bound planner or something like that.

CW1- Maybe a CD or iTunes gift card. If she loves animals maybe get her a card with a cute animal on the front or something. If she loves nature you could always get her something really nice like a miniature water fountain or something (those are so neat)

CW2- Depends on his interests. Does he like video games? Art? Music?

CW3- Get him a pair of socks

CW4- Maybe something nice like a sweatshirt or a scarf. Gay guys (I have a few gay friends) tend to like clothes a lot.

CW5- A football paperweight

CW6- Some nice candles in little glass jars and/or some bath salts/lotion/bath stuff

CW7- If he likes football maybe a jersey or something? Or if you live where there's a game coming up or something you could get him tickets (I have no idea how much they cost so it's just an idea)

If all else fails you can get some nice mugs (everyone loves mugs) and bake some cookies or fudge or something to give to everyone as well :)

Merry Christmas :)

As for random days you can always buy him candies, chocolate bars, anything, really anything, it's not that hard, because he'll love the idea that you thought of him.:D

cooking related gift ideas for boyfriend of 4 years dad?
Q. Hi all,
I am trying to find a gift for my boyfriend of 4 years dad. All I have to go by is he likes golf and cooking.
Does anyone have any ideas on some cooking related gift ideas I could get him? He has a huge collection of cookbooks so I dont really want to go there as there is every chance I will double up on one!
Anything would be appreciated :)
Thank-you

A. You are way ahead of the game since you know the birthday guy enjoys cooking! You can help him always swing a hole-in-one in the kitchen as well as out on the green, by making sure he has great kitchen equipment.

For example, get him a gift certificate to a cooking class and include a few kitchen gadgets that give him the upper hand.

You might want to give him a class on pizza-making for example learning about techniques that give you the restaurant experience at home. You can get him a non-stick pizza pan to go along with it and a few fresh balls of Mozzarella cheese.

You may also want to explore a specialty cooking store where a lot of items are unique and cater to special cooking interests.

I need a gift idea for a 17 year old boy?

Q. I need a gift idea for a 17 year old boy. He's my best friend's son and he was just awarded Rookie of the Year at his local fire house where he is a volunteer. He's into computers, science type things, tv mystery type shows, and, obviously, fire fighting. Any ideas would be way helpful. I'll be seeing him this weekend. Somewhere in the $30 - $50 range. Thanks!

A. Did he like the Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth" series?

If he did, then take a look at this DVD set:

http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Changed-History-Iain-Stewart/dp/B003DC8824/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1295382650&sr=1-2

"How the Earth Changed History" with host Iain Stewart.
It is fairly new. It came out last year in June.

It is like "Planet Earth" in that it is a grand production by the BBC.
I got it at a local library and watched it all the way through over the course of a week.

It is in your price range with rush shipping.

It is 2 disks. It is not as big as "Planet Earth".
It goes through how the Earth's processes changed history. It deals with different topics. No animal stories like "Planet Earth". These shows cover things like geology and other scientific topics.
There is a section on FIRE.

(If you liked "Planet Earth", then be sure to borrow it from him! LOL)

I need gift ideas for boys who love spiderman?
Q. I'm Christmas shopping online, and all that I have left are a 4 year old boy and a 6 year old boy. They both love spiderman and all of the characters associated with him. I want some good gift ideas that would make their Christmas special. They already have the costumes, and I would like to stay away from the "toy" thing (they have plenty of spiderman toys). I plan to spend between 50 and 60 dollars on each child, and get them at least two gifts. Any ideas?

A. Do they have the movies? Maybe you could buy all of them. Or you could go with one of the following:

What to get a ten year old boy for Christmas?
Q. I'm looking for gift ideas for my ten year old nephew. He is mostly interested in video games, but I'd rather not get him another game. He doesn't like sports, but he seems to have some interest in science. He also really likes technology, such as cell phones, computers, etc.

Every year, when I ask his parents what to get him, they tell me the name of a specific video game or request a gift card for a video game. I'd really like to find something a little more original, that would still be fun. Any ideas?

A. amazon has some really cool basic robotics kits for his age group. I was just looking at them and you can get some nifty sets for under $50 and free amazon shipping.

What would be good Christmas gifts for a 1 year old girl and 2 year old boy?
Q. I'm going shopping on Friday for my 1 year old niece and 2 year old nephew. I don't really have any experience with children, so I have no idea what to get them for Christmas. Do you have any suggestions?

A. If the one year old can walk get her a little car she can hold onto in the back that she can push (helps them learn to walk better) theres this red and blue car at toys R us for $20. For a 2 year old boy, big blocks my son loves to stack them then kick them down. Also for the one year old, it all depends on if they crawl or walk, but go down the infant toy aisle for the one year old, the have things from age 0-18 months. Good luck finding something!

What are good Christmas presents for my family?

Q. I need gift ideas for my mom, dad, and 17 year old sister. Nothing too expensive, I don't want to get my sister clothes either. I especially need ideas for my dad! Thanks!

A. These are PERFECT -- I bought them for my family a few years ago and they have asked for them each year since. They are cute, unique useful and more importantly AFFORDABLE! They are having a sale for the holidays.

I have also given them to friends, coworkers and used them for secret santas. Here is the website:

Can anyone help me with present and gift ideas?
Q. 1. Okay so My Dad's birthday is coming up on the 21st of November (this month) hes 39 or 40 and i seriously need birthday ideas, please help!

2. My Mom's birthday is also coming up 38 or 39 is old she will be, gift ideas?

Thank you in advance i know i didn't give you a lot to use but i just want you to put things you've given family members in the past and ideas you would like to share with me, anything! :D

A. After spending a lot of time searching for great affordable gifts for my family, I thought it would be great to make a list of some of the best websites for others to be able to compare products and prices, quickly and easily.

What else can I give my mom for her 50th birthday?
Q. Ok so I was thinking that i'll give my mom 50 things for her birthday. I'm going to start from something big and start going down to something small. Can somebody give me some other gift ideas that a mom will love? Please. Thanks.

A. Organise a spa day for her and a few of her close friends, then send them to a salon and get their hair and make up done and then send them out for dinner. This might be a bit expensive, so you could split it with brothers, sisters and your dad maybe?

Get her really nice things for her room, like candles, a bed spread, cushions, a rug, a plant etc.

Get her a photo album and print all her favourite photos that she hasn't got printed yet.

A surprise party with all of her friends and family, you can do this for fairly cheap if you organise it properly.

If she's got a band or artist that she loves, buy her tickets to see their concert.

If she reads, get her loads of books that you think she'd like.

If she's into fashion, you could hire a stylist and send her shopping with a personal stylist for a day
You could also send her on a shopping trip to New York, Paris, Milan or London, depending on where you live.

If she's into music, but her a giant iPod and spend time getting all the songs she'd love and organise playlists and stuff.

What are good but cheap Christmas gift ideas?
Q. I need to purchase Christmas gifts for my father, brother, grandmothers, mom, and friends. What are some great and personal Christmas gift ideas that won't cost me a fortune? I also need to bring them by plane so they need to be fairly unbreakable and transportable. Thanks so much for your help and Merry Christmas!

A. I've always turned to homemade gifts such as cookies, breads, ect. Baking ingredients go a looooong way!

What should I get my sisters and their boyfriends for xmas?

Q. I have 2 sister, one is 22 and the other is 24. They both have boyfriends they've been with for a number of years. I usually get 4 separate gifts for them for xmas. This year I'd like to get them combined gifts, one gift for each couple. Remember these are for my sisters and their boyfriends - not just friends of mine, so no "romantic" couples gift ideas please! haha
Do you have any good suggestions!?
Help!
Thanks!!

A. How about movie or theater tickets? How about gift cards for special meals out?

Need some great gift ideas for a large family and little money?
Q. Times are not as good as they usually are this year. Does anyone have great gift ideas that cost little money? I have a large family. Serious answers please :)

A. what about a family tree dvd. copy it and give each member a copy to add their own family to it. i got one of these from an uncle some years ago. he put it together using old photos. starting from my great grandparents up to my youngest cousin. now i have to add my family to my copy and pass it on when the time is right. cheap to do. just collect all the photos you can and tell people you will return them, but dont tell them what they are for. then surprise them when everyone is together at chrimbo. if you can, copy it for them, if not they will be delighted to wait till after xmas.

What can I get my 2 grandmothers for xmas this year?
Q. Both of my grandmother's are up there in age and they both live with family members (in family members homes)- so they often say they don't need anything, etc. However, I cannot not get them anything for xmas- they are my grandmothers (I have to get them something). What would be a good gift idea for them? Any suggestions are welcomed based on thoughts or experience. Thank you.

A. I would either give them cash, or a gift certificate at their favorite hair salon or store. It always gives someone a lift if they have their own cash on them for personal items. You could also take them out for lunch or somewhere they like to go, even a movie.
Good luck and a thank God you still have them with you. Please listen to them and learn about your past or favorite recipes. I regret not asking my grandmas more about their past.

What should I get for my uncle for xmas?
Q. He's in his 50s, doesn't usually spend xmas with us, so I don't know. He's retired, lives in a camper by himself, doesn't have a tv, computer, or cellphone (and doesn't want them). This description makes him sound like a weirdo, but he's actually a cool guy. Any gift ideas for an outdoorsy type?

A. It's better to present him with a clock or a thermal wear that may be useful for him.

A. This is so cute!! If he likes any bands, maybe a poster? I like to get guys things that kinda relate to their hobbies, so that its really For them. Ask yourself what his favorite things to do or favorite music is and then get him something that goes with it! That way when he goes to (for example) go shoot hoops with his friends with the basketball you got him or the sneakers you got him, he will think of you :) :)

My Aries man's birthday is coming up soon! What are good gift ideas for Aries men?
Q. I've read that Aries men like spontaneous, gifts. We aren't able 2 go out of town anywhere because I just got a new job! His mom purchased a guitar for him, so he is able 2 pick up a new hobby (which I heard Aries men love)!! Any ideas?? We live in Mississippi so we aren't able to skydive or do anything "spontaneous"!

A. sexsexsexsex

What are some good gift ideas for my dads 55th birthday ?
Q. So my dad is turning 55 in a few weeks and I want to get him a really good gift but I have no idea what to buy!
He's a real mans man and has pretty much everything.
What sort of presents have you given your dad that he loves ?
Please give me lots of ideas , They can be unique , cheap , expensive anything!

Thankyou so much! xoxo.

A. Does he enjoy to fish? All the guys in my family, including myself, are huge fisherman. Every year we take a fishing trip together and it's so much fun and a great excuse to get away from everyone. If your Dad is into fishing, maybe for his birthday you can pick out something fishing related. This is a great site for fishing gear and supplies, http://fishfreakonline.com/ I am constantly checking out that site and maybe order too much from them, but their product line is great and affordable. Perhaps you can find something for your Dad there if he enjoy fishing.

Good House / Bad House... I want to buy this house but it needs major work. What would you do?

Q. Good House -
1.)It's old - mid 1800's & I love that fact.
2.)It's big - 3500 sq feet & we need big.
3.)It's cheep - less than $40,000
4.)It has a large Yard - 1 &1/2 acre

Bad house -
1.) the intire house needs work - basically we are buying the shell & bare studs. Some of the rooms up stair have been redone.
2.) not livable at this time.
3.) really far from family & jobs - about an hour with good driving conditions.

I'm all excited but I'm not sure if this is as great of an idea as I want it to be.

A. I have been restoring for over 30 yrs. I've regretted it many times, but can't think of anything better when I look back to see how far I've come. Things to think about, besides what the previous post said.
1. how much time are you willing to give? How much are you willing to give up??? As in social life, educational opportunites, sports, etc.
2. How committed are you to compleating a dream? You must be completely clear in how much this means to you AND whomever else is in your life. It's terribly romantic to think about the two of you starting life in this great old house, but it must be equally wanted by both of you. It doesn't work if one of you is a workhorse and the other just wants the hammock on Sat. Try working together on another project. If you don't have a home of your own, volunteer on someone else's.
3. Are you time oriented or task oriented? Is it more important for you to finish what you start before you knock off, or to stop so you can fix dinner because it is 6:00 o'clock and the news is on?
4. Do you have any allergies to dust? If you are living in this while working on it, you will be letting a lot of house work slide, because it will be more important to do something else like scrape paint or wallpaper, relay pipe or A/C ducts, or complete the bath framing.
5. Do you have skills in this? Are there people you can call in an emergency to help you out? How much support can you count on from others when you get in trouble? How resourceful are you? HOw good are you at making do? If you are a woman, how will you react to a drill, sander or pipe wrench for a birthday gift?
6. What is your financial resourcefullness? How creative are you at finding and using money?
These houses go cheaply because they are not technologically current. You will have to have the financial resources to upgrade them. Make sure you have at least enough cash to replace the electrical wiring, making it superior to code minimum. That should be item #3, after a good roof #1 and strong foundation #2. Plumbing is #4. Anything cosmetic should take a second seat. And NEVER paint anything until you have scraped, spackled, sanded and primed first.

All this being said, if you have examined your soul and still feel this is the right move, go to oldhouses.com and read the old house blogs. Many restorers have kept running documents on their houses and their experiences. Read these through thoroughly, and be aware that some people will write with an ear to their audience, glossing over what the real difficulties are. Contact me off line if you need more info.

What do you get the woman who has almost everything?
Q. My sister is turning 40 and I can't think of the just right gift for her. She is married and they are financially very comfortable and she is able to buy pretty much whatever she wants and does. I however am on a pretty small budget but want to get her something special. I have already over done the coupons, massages, scrapbooks, baby sitting offers, etc. I am stumped. Her husband is throwing her a huge surprise party which I am helping organize but when it comes to the gift I am at a loss. If anyone can provide some ideas or inspiration I would be so grateful.

A. Since it is her 40th Birthday why not a over the hill gag gift?
Just an idea...

Good Luck, faith

What should we give a 40 year old women for her Birthday present?
Q. We have a friend/colleague who is turning 40. What would be a nice gift to give her? Thanks for any ideas. (I'm terrible at giving gifts and usually give money, however in this case money is not appropriate.)
Please vote on this tie-breaker:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlK6XU6SbcZNrHO4BIv54GTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090124055736AAgNqXF&show=7#profile-info-FeYDLTeFaa

A. The group can pool your money together and give her a gift card to a restaurant. Give enough for her to take her husband if married and if not she can take someone special. Or a gift card to a department store. Just don't give an over the hill prank gift. Forty is a difficult age for some people and she may be having a hard time with her age at this point.

Well, I am planing a 40th Surprise Birthday Party and I need help!!!!?
Q. I neeed a good theme and different ideas for centerpieces, and party favors. I would like to keep it low budget but a nice get together. A D.J. is possible so if you have any ideas helppppppp! THANKS!

A. You haven't mentioned anything about your birthday person or whether they're a female or male, which might make a difference in your choice of themes. Turning 40 for men is different than turning 40 for women! Anyway, if you are having a birthday "girl", I'd suggest underplayed elegance with a side of humor. Think about flowers for the center pieces. Party favors might be edible ones, such as See's truffles either in their box's with ribbon or in tule with flowers and ribbon. Or, you can consider gift bags, which seem to be a rage these days, and include: chocolate, a nice pen, a favorite poem about getting older and the joys of menopause, bubble bath et al. On the wild side, you could use a theme about women coming into the best times of their lives sexually and emotionally and go from there. For the guys? Well, humor goes a long long way here.
