Cheap Christmas gift ideas?

Mama J.

I know that it is early, but I always like to shop early before the rush. I have three children to buy for whom are son six, daughter nine, daughter twelve, and a fourteen year old stepson... also my hubby, and we pick names from the rest of my extended family for each person in my household. Here are the characteristics of the people we picked: 3 teenage boys whom are my nephews, my 21 year old niece, four month old nephew (the easy one!), and my sister whom is in her early late forties.

Any ideas on how to save money this year, cheap gift ideas etc. would be appreciated greatly!

Answer
6 year old boy-- toys of any kind lol, Wal-Mart has packs of cars, trains, . They're maybe $8 bucks tops. Lego's.

9 yr. old Daughter--Bratz or Hannah Montana anything, doll, cd, pj's. A cute pillow with matching pj's.

12yr. old Daughter--A scrapbook, they're like $12 bucks & is a good hobby. You could get accessories at Wal-Mart too. She could put pics of her friends in it, with stickers, caption quotes, glitter or drawings.
Pj's, a pack of Lip gloss and a little make-up bag, cute socks.

14 yr. old stepson--dvd, a pack of his favorite candy, a pack of Axe spray (boys grow up lol love to smell good at that age), a plain hoody in his favorite color.

Hubby--Pj's, boxers, a shaver (guys wanna look good too), a pack of his favorite candy. Or a dvd he likes.

3 teen boys---pj's, funny boxer shorts, pack of candy, or anything Axe, or Tag spray gift packs.

21 yr. old neice--Scrapbook, cute photo album, pj's.

4 yr. old nephew--anything that makes noise, bounces, giggles or falls down. Maybe a Elmo dvd, he' could sit & laugh =)

Sister---A body bath set. (From wal-mart, about $12-15 bucks)
comes in a basket, body wash, lotion, scrubbie, a candle. It'll make her feel good & rejuvinated.

Everything Wal-Mart, Its heaven!!!

First Father's Day gift ideas?

Ashley

Ok, my husband will be celebrating his first Father's Day this year, we have 6 month old twin boys. I was wondering if you all would have any ideas for first time Father's Day gifts? I am having a hard time trying to find something really special for him, what did you all get your husbands for their first Father's Day. Thank you, I just need a little push to find some neat ideas to make this first time daddy day extra special. Can you please share your Father's Day gift ideas, thank you!
My husband and I are both 19 so no alcohol gifts for us

Answer
I did this for Christmas, but you could also use it for Father's Day. I ordered a photo mug from Snapfish.com. I chose one where you can use multiple pictures, and on the top it say "I love Daddy!".

Where can I find good gift ideas for teenage girls in high school and college?

JENNIFER P

I have 6 nieces aged 12-19 and i have no clue what to get them for Christmas.

Answer
Get a mall gift certificate of $20 per niece you can purchase them at customer service desk. For the older ones you can get a candles, or fruity body splashes and lotions at body works. Gift certificate to the local movie theater, restaurant gift certificate for two, a bottle of liquor lol. Hoop earrings, or take them to the mall and ask them to pick out something and treat them to lunch, that's bonding!!!

Good luck!

PS the catch with the credit cards gift certificates is that they have to pay an activation fee of the 6-9 dollars to even use the cards.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas?

Moo-Chan

I really want to get my boyfriend something great for Valentine's day.
We've only been dating for about two weeks, and Valentine's day will be almost a month, so I want to get something that kind of keeps everything fresh and on a good start.
I definitely don't want to seems obsessive, so something thoughtful and just all around cool would probably fit the bill.

We're in high school, so you know, keep it PG. :P

We're scenestahhhs, kinda.

I love all of you. <3 Thank you to anyone who answers. <33 xoxo

List of Cute Gift Ideas for Your Boyfriend

Things to Do

Take your boyfriend on a date to an event or location he might like, or just find a secluded spot for a romantic meal.

Picnic: Set up a picnic at the park, beach, or even in your own living room. Bring candles, good food and don't forget about some champagne glasses for toasting.

Card and tickets: Find a cute card and purchase tickets to a sports game or concert he wants to see. Try TicketsNow or StubHub.

Visit animals: If your boyfriend is an animal lover, he may enjoy a visit to a zoo he's never visited. If the closest zoo he hasn't seen yet is far away, make it into a weekend getaway or day trip.

Objects That Show Your Affection

Sometimes, choosing an object to give him is easier and less expensive than pulling together an event. That doesn't mean the gift can't be special:

Message teddy bear: Buy a teddy bear or other stuffed animal and put a card or message around its neck. You could also find one with a zipper back and place a message inside.

Trinket: You can find little trinkets in card stores. Tell him to place it in his wallet and every time he looks at it, he can think of you.

Picture frame: Purchase a picture frame and place a photo of both of you in it.

Inscribed watch: You don't have to spend a fortune on a nice looking watch. Find one with a big enough back and have a special message engraved on it. You can purchase a watch wherever you'd like and then take it to your local jeweler if the store where you purchase the watch doesn't offer engraving services.

Matching jerseys: Does he have a special team and player he likes? You can buy him a jersey and then buy one for yourself to wear for the next time you watch a game together. Try Dick's Sporting Goods.

Word magnets: Word magnets are words you can place on your refrigerator to make sentences. You can easily make these at home by purchasing pieces of thin magnet at a craft store, printing out words from your computer and gluing them onto pieces of magnet. For this cute boyfriend gift idea, make sure to choose words that signify how much you mean to each other. If you need some ideas or would like to know what word magnets look like, visit Funky Fridge.

Recordable key chain: Check Radio Shack or other electronics store for a recordable key chain or picture frame. Leave a loving message on it so your boyfriend can hear your sweet voice and words any time he is missing you.

Mini digital picture frame: Purchase a digital picture frame for his keychain and download all the pictures you have of the both of you on it. If you don't have many of just the two of you, upload pictures of just yourself. You can find these anywhere from Amazon.com to Kohl's.

He likes to send goofy stuff to our teenage son for Christmas. This year we are sending the grandparents a gag gift package. We have already picked up a huge Remote Control and Calculator. We're thinking about getting them The Clapper and possibly a Giant Clock. We need some funny gift ideas. They have a great sense of humor. Can you give us some ideas on what kind of products we could buy that old people could use. Inexpensive ideas please. That way we can include several things in this gift box.
Thanks!

Engagement party gift ideas?

Davina Lop

I'm attending my cousin and his fiancée engagement party next weekend and I have no idea what kind of gift to give them since they already live with each other and have everything they need for their house. I was thinking of just buying them a card and putting $100 dollars in it. Is money a good idea or should I get them an actual gift.

Answer
I agree, most people do not consider the engagement party to be a gift giving event, it IS the gift!
You can't go wrong with just a nice card.

If you wish to give a gift, cash or a boxed gift, fine, you can. But do know that you might be invited to lots of wedding events. Perhaps more than one engagement party. Perhaps the shower, or more than one. Then the wedding itself. Perhaps even a bachelor, or bachelorette party.
It would be nice to give them some money up front, I'm sure they would appreciate it. If you can afford it, why not?

This is a good time for the family to give heirloom or new bought gifts for the wedding, like a cake server and knife, or toasting glasses.
Also a good time to hand down heirlooms for their house, or jewelry.
Also for the family to chip in with financial help.

Books on weddings are a good present.
a bottle of champagne intended to be opened at this party, or for another time, or a bottle of nice wine is good.
Photo albums and scrapbooks would be fine too.

Gift for an engagement party?

Meg

First time I go to an engagement party. Do I have to take a gift? Is it costumery? If so, what gifts are adequate to take for the couple? Your help is desperately needed. I have no idea what to do.

Answer
An engagement is not a reason to give a gift. Just because someone agrees to marry another person, this does not entitle them to a gift. An engagement party is not a gift giving event. Some people may give a gift, but that is not the purpose of an engagement party.

Typically engagement parties are thrown so the immediate family of the bride and groom to be can meet one another. These days young adults have entitlement issues and think they deserve a party because they have fallen in love and decided to get married.

There are bridal showers given to the bride once a wedding date has been set. That IS a gift giving event. There are bachelor parties, baccalaureate parties and other get togethers where the friends of the marrying couple can celebrate the upcoming wedding. Like I said, engagement parties are supposed to be for the families to get to know one another. All of the engaged couples friends probably already know one another.

But, no, there is no gift at an engagement party. It would be nice to give them a card of congratulations, though.

Wedding Anniversary gift ideas for men?

ravishingl

He's 21. Married 2 years. Has just about everything he could ever want, but I would like to find something unique for him - something that show's how much I care. Any ideas?

Answer
The traditional gift for the 2nd anniversary is cotton, the modern is china, the gemstone is garnet and the flower is cosmos.

You say he has everything. What does he especially like to do? Or what about giving him gifts that aren't material--what can you do?

* Plan a romantic evening dining at home, write writing several short love letters on beautiful handmade paper, decorate with a picture of a heart-shaped garnet (probably can find on the Internet), and deliver each letter separately with each course (use romantic china dessert plates). The last could be love coupons (give a massage, etc.). Or find an unusual china box (antique/collectible stores) and fill with love notes and coupons and give him before you serve dessert.

* Is he adventurous? What about a hot air balloon trip, a day learning to race cars (there's schools all over the country)--what does he enjoy doing with his time off?

* Is there something he would like to learn more about? Gourmet cooking, wine-tasting, working out, being a comedian, a rap artist, whatever. Could you find a local expert who will give him a day of one-on-one training, or if not, send him to a short seminar?

Focus on "doing" activities, because they will be unique and you won't have to worry how a gift matches up to what he already owns.

Happy 2nd anniversary to you and many more to come!

Baby shower gift ideas...?

Q. I'm a teenager trying to buy my adult friend a baby shower gife for her first child. We don't know what gender the baby is, and I don't have a high-paying job (obviously). Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer
One gift that is never under-appriciated: Diapers. Lots of people forget how many newborns go through, so even a small package would make a great gift. Also, consider offering your time as a gift. She may want a nice homecooked meal in those first few weeks, or need to vaccuum desparately but cant find the time. Make "coupons" (or just offer her your idea) to do little things for her, like cook, or do the dishes.

christmas presents for men?

Miss Lovel

Me and my boyfriend are getting gifts not only for eachother, but for eachother's parents, too. I know an idea of what I want to get his mom, i was gonna get her some crafty stuff cause she's been into crocheting and yarn work but idk what to get cause she has loads of yarn already..so any ideas on that? and what should i get his dad? and ideas for him to get my mom? Nothing pricy, but just cute simple things like under 20$ that we could do? :)

Answer
For "Mom" - I would not buy yarn. Instead, get her a gift certificate where she buys her knitting supplies, and present it with a "Cookie Mix in a Jar" that you put together - like these.

http://gingerbreadblog.com/2010/11/gingerbread-cookie-mix-in-a-jar/

For your mom- same idea.. gift certificate where she likes to buy her hobby/extra-curricular stuff (stuff she's reluctant to buy for herself) - then package with a Cookie mix in a jar.

You can also do "soup mix in a jar" "bread mix in a jar" - "BBQ Rub in a Jar" etc. anything where there are different dry ingredients you can layer up in a jar to good effect.

For Dad: Same idea - Gift certificates wherever they do their "hobbies". Home Depot if they're DIY... The Model Airplane store if he's into that... Cabella's/ BassPro Shop if they're hunter/fishers... BestBuy if they're into gadgets... etc. Most guys have at least one thing they like that's "extra-curricular"

Package them up with "BBQ Rub in a Jar" if they're into that "Mexican Dip Mix in a Jar" - or more "Cookie Mix in a Jar" - all guys like cookies. - but you could also do "in a jar" stuff they could use for a Super-Bowl party... dry ingredients for big dip mixes... BBQ rubs.... Cornbread.... etc.

Hope That helps - Merry Christmas

I would like gift ideas for my mom's 80th birthday?

Sharon

my mom still drives and loves to drive over 4 states to visit relatives as often as she can. We are having a surprise birthday party for her, looking for some good ideas.

Answer
You can upload a picture of a significant moment in her life or a pretty pic of her and have a personalized photo puzzle made. Here: http://www.jigsaw2order.com/photo_collage_main.html
Another idea, this will require a little more effort: ask other family members to collaborate and come up with "80 reasons we love you". Type the text into a book (using a coffee book table template, maybe?) or have it made in a digital photography store or something similar. Put photos of your mother and family members to accompany the text.
Since she likes to drive, car rental places like Hertz rents Jaguars, Audis and the like for around $100 a day and unlimited mileage. It's a fun treat for someone who would never be able to afford a luxury vehicle, if the case. A less expensive option is a gift certificate for an oil change, lube and filter service (or even a full service) or gift card for free gas for a month or something similar. Well, it's useful for those who are always driving.

Help me with unique "Valentine Gift Idea"?

Hi! I am really confuse what I should give to my girl friend this year at valentines day. Everything I think of seems so common. It may not reflect my true feelings about her, I affraid. Can't I do something that will make a heavy impact on her! can't I give something (affordable price offcporse) that will be remembetred for ever! Please give me some idea!

Answer
Hi! I admit It is not easy to pick when you love your girlfriend. It is not easy to make you a good suggestion either! The person can choose the best valentine day gift is YOU. Yes YOU! Nobody else can. Because you know your girlfriend better than anyone else in the world. But you can have some hints "How to think out a unique valentine gift idea". Recently I read an article from EzineArticles just about this. You can try the other site also to get some idea.

Unique father's day gift ideas?

Q. Anyone? I need a good but cheapish idea..

Answer
Add to any gift a list of the reasons why you appreciate him. Perhaps have it inscribed on a wall plague.

Please don't get a joke card. In my 20+ years of working with fathers, it has been rare that a joke card that makes fun of his abilities is really appreciated.

I wrote this to "Dear Abby" for Father's Day, March 19, 2005.

APPRECIATION FOR JOB WELL DONE IS WHAT FATHERS WANT TO HEAR

DEAR ABBY: Today is Father's Day, so why don't we try to do more for dear old Dad than give him the usual greeting card that promotes the idea that all dads are imbeciles, followed by a collect call to see what he thought of the card. (Father's Day is the day when the most collect calls are made.)

We should treat our fathers the way we treat our mothers on Mother's Day and show them we appreciate them for being there. Yes, you probably tell your father all the time that you love him, but the minds of men work differently. Anyone can say "I love you," but as men, knowing that we are appreciated for a job well done is what really gets us teary-eyed.

Something else you can do -- especially you sons out there (but daughters can do it, too) -- is to make sure Dad has been to the doctor for a checkup, including depression screening. This can go a long way toward making sure he's here on Father's Day next year.

I wasn't raised by my father, but by a stepfather. Although we did not see eye-to-eye on many things, I would not be the person I am today if it were not for him. This man, who spent years climbing on top of heavy construction equipment to prepare the ground for many of the homes, businesses, roads and highways of Southern California, now finds it difficult to get into a car. Although none of the houses or roads have his name on them, they are all testaments to his life and the lives of men like him.

So today, let's do something extra for Dad, without him pulling out his wallet to pay for it. -- George McCasland, Overland Park, Kansas

Remember, there's a lot of us fathers sitting in nursing homes whose children live too far away to visit. Contact an activities director about volunteering Sunday morning. Read a list out loud about why you appreciated your father.

Anyone have any good gift voucher ideas for places in Portsmouth, UK?

Kimberly

Hi there,

I'm looking for some Christmas gift ideas for my brother and his wife, but they're moving to Portsmouth in the UK in January (we're currently in Australia) so most things I get them will be pretty useless as they've already shipped most of their stuff so all they can take with them will be what's in their suitcases.

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to get them a voucher for something over there. Perhaps a nice restaurant, or maybe a good easy to get to department store so they can get things to set up their new house. Trouble is, I have no idea about what's in and around Portsmouth. I've looked up some sites on it and I found some restaurant names, but the areas they're in mean nothing to me (I don't know where exactly in Portsmouth my brother will be living) and I can't tell that much from the few reviews I've found.

If anyone has any suggestions of good places to get them a voucher from, or even any information about what's in the area, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks =)

19 Month Old Preemie...Easter gift ideas??

Mom of One

Yep, I'm one of those Mom's that wants to get the next holiday done right after the previous one (Heart's Day). Does anyone have any good gift ideas for a 19 month old. She's delayed though and is around 12 months developmentally. She doesn't need anymore toys! So far I have a Pooh Easter board book, some bubbles, and a little chick that chirps. Any other ideas? She doesn't quite grasp the concept of coloring so coloring books and sidewalk chalk are out. Thanks for your thoughts!

Serious answers only please!!

Answer
I'm thinking books is always a good way to go. I know what you mean about not needing any more toys though! Books, bubbles, those little wind-ups toys...sounds like you've thought of everything I can. =P

A cute outfit and the Easter basket with the stuff you mentioned will be plenty enough, in my opinion. You could get her those little plastic eggs and put some little toys or treats in them for her to crack open and "find"...kids love that kind of stuff.

Have fun!

Birthday on Easter Sunday? Gift idea?

dorky123

We are attending a Birthday on Easter Sunday...and I would really like to tie in Easter and Birthday together in my gift. So I was thinking about a basket filled with books a bunny and small toys. It's for a 1 year old girl. Any ideas on something cute I can do to add to my idea or a new idea?

I use to have a girlfriend who was really into cows and I had found a card in the shape of a cows head, and a paper with black cow spots. So I took black yarn and braided a tail. I wrapped my box in the black cow spot paper, taped the card to one end of the box without the envelope and the tail to the other end. I think you can do the same only as a bunny, Either find a card of only the bunny head or cut one out you like of the appropriate size and but Cotton balls on the other side for the tail. Unless you can find a large hollow egg (the kind used in window displays) and put the books inside of that wrapping a huge ribbon around the seam of the egg. You may have to hot glue some of the ribbon down. Gift wise I think your good.
