Since your going on vacation,why don't you get her a makeup case and fill it with mini travel size items.Such as suntan lotion,regular hand lotion.soap,nail polish.emery boards,shampoo,shower cap etc.Try Walmart or avon.Then pay for lunch for her,or if your all staying in a motel with complementary breakfast,serve it to her in the morning.You could also order a pizza the night before you go,so mom doesn't have to cook.Have a great time!

I have a few friends who are all pregnant at the same time, including myself, so we have been discussing baby shower ideas. These babies are all 2nd babies for us, and were not really sure about what to do.
We all have things left over from our 1st babies, so we don't need much. We also don't want any of that generic baby shower stuff like powders, creams, etc and other useless crap we will never use.
Is it wrong to tell people what you want, ie on the invitation or something, or even request money or a gift voucher? What do you think?

With my first baby I did not know how the hole registry thing, and tons of people kept asking me "what do you want? what do you need?" so I told them all the same things and do you know what I got? 20 powders, tons of baby shampoo, lots of baby lotion, and it took me about 2 years to use all of it! (not complaining, just had to keep finding places to put them). then I got 2 bouncers, 2 play and packs, 2 swings. etc.
so with my second I made a registry and got stuff that i NEEDED, I love the fact that they have registries now because now you want get to much stuff you don't need, and get what you really need.
and no it's not rude! when ever I hear about a baby shower I find their registry.
and don't be afraid to ask for money, that's what my sister did, was not rude or anything.

My advice would be to get her a gift voucher to someplace that they both love and enjoy, be it for a couple's massage, or for where ever they are registered for their bridal registry. You can't go wrong with just giving "money" (via gift card, voucher) because then they are sure to receive exactly what they really need and it will be so much more appreciated!

I'm Christmas shopping online, and all that I have left are a 4 year old boy and a 6 year old boy. They both love spiderman and all of the characters associated with him. I want some good gift ideas that would make their Christmas special. They already have the costumes, and I would like to stay away from the "toy" thing (they have plenty of spiderman toys). I would like to give a 13 yr old girl a Christmas gift but i don't know what to give. She had a father but, He doesn't live with live her and her mom. Her father doesn't really take good care of her. 13 year old girls are full of secrets. Most love to draw or write. How bout a blank writing or sketch book, some pens or colored pencils? It will encourage her to put her ideas down, to draw and to dream, to write poetry and her feelings.
i was a young girl once myself and my older brother gave me something similar for my birthday. i am now an artist and somewhat of a writer too. Anything that encourages her to express herself would be a nice gift and there are some beautiful blank books out there.
Another, and if you have more to spend, might be a gift of experience. Take her to a live stage show. If the Nutcracker is playing in your area or you are near a large city, that's a great choice. See what is playing as there is almost always some Christmas program somewhere.
She would feel grown up and i promise that she would remember a night like that all of her life.
How sweet of you to think of her in a way that leaves out the materialism that is making my head spin. The kind of gift you are looking for is what Christmas is all about and at her age, it is still a magic time of year.

Maybe you can schedule a couples massage at a spa with champagne and strawberries and if you have a hotel room, decorate it with flowers and rose petals and have a hot bath waiting after the massage! I know its her birthday but you're spending time together and its "sensual" :-) I'm not sure if they have carriage rides in Atlanta since i've only been once for a weekend but that would be really sweet too! Or....if you have time to put thought into it plan a scavenger hunt for her with a bunch of little gifts at each stop and you can be with her....

If you go to Spencers, they sell all kinds of dirty party items. I think you should make everyone dress sexy and buy him an innappropriate gift! Adult stores also carry lots of party items, so I'd check that out. Maybe you should make two round cakes and decorate them to look like breasts!

Talk to your favorite gym. Perhaps leave some information in the locker room.
What about a jewelry store? Women always like to look around in theose places.
What about a custom-card maker that you could enclose small packets to sample.

If you do your email marketing the right away, you can possibly get some leads.
Another idea is to hire a freelancer to make cold calls to people who have listed their properties on real estate websites. The problem with this idea is that they will not be moving right away. You need to find people who are moving soon.

i made one for my daughter who is now 6 i did it till she was 4 but still write the odd bits and bats in it basically i started with a little story about my pregnancy how i felt when i found out i was expecting some appointments i went to my scan any names i had chose for a girl or boy what my cravings were what i thought the sex of my baby was going to be what everyone else thought then did a few pages with family members photos writing who everyone was and what relation to my child they was then my labour what i experienced not the gruesome bits ha ha how i was feeling throughout labour (my emotions) then a page on the day she was born with her weight eye colour hair colour lenght of her time she was born and the name i had finally chose for her who i thought she looked like who others thought she looked like then her first example first car she rode in home first address the gifts she was bought and who they were from etc then went on to writing a page a month about what she hd done different in that month and adding a photo of her of the age she was that month then extra bits like what was her fave food games when she got her teeth who was her first friends when she was ill and what she was poorly with etc if you make a homemade one you can make it gorgus with different colour paper pens etc i loved doing it for her she is nearly 6 and she love looking through it now have fun there just a few ideas what i can remember off top of my head you can go on forever but its worth it in the end and a 1000 times better than a shop bought journal have fun hunni

I like the cookie bouquets for birthday gifts. You don't have to have cutters to make the shapes...just make the shapes from paper and lay the pattern down on the rolled out cookie dough and cut around it. To put the cookies on a stick you can just lay the stick on the back of the baked cookie and pour some melted chocolate over it....this will "glue" it to the cookie.
I used to work in a cookie bouquet shop and I have a very good icing recipe to use for the decorations. I also have 3 real different cookie recipes for rolled out cookies...you can choose which you would like.

......after the chocolate has dried and the cookie is attached to the stick you can put the sticks in a block of styrofoam to hold them in place.
CUTOUT COOKIE ICING
3 egg whites, at room temp.
Whip 2 min., fast speed or until stiff.
Add:
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. powdered sugar (1 box)
Mix.
Add,
2 TBS. Crisco
Mix on low speed until smooth.
(if you want to make a glaze from this, just add a little hot water to it so it is thin enough to dip the cookie in or brush the icing on the cookie.
CUTOUT SUGAR COOKIES
set oven temp. at 375°F
1 1/3 cups shortening (I use butter or margarine)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
(optional, 1/8 tsp. each, almond, orange, lemon flavors)
2 eggs
2 1/2 TBS. milk
4 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Cream shortening, add sugar and flavorings and cream together.
Add eggs and milk. Cream.
Mix flour, baking powder and salt together.
Add flour mixture to batter. Mix just until incorporated.
Cool in refrigerator 1 hour or more. Divide dough in half.
Roll out to desired thickness. I make mine almost 1/2 inch thick. Most people
make them 1/4 inch thick.
Cut in shapes and place on cookie sheet. Reroll the dough with the rest of the dough.
If you do not plan to ice the cookies, sprinkle with sugar. Otherwise, leave plain.
Bake at 375°F for 6 to 12 minutes, depending on how thich you roll them. They should be lightly browned around the edges
BROWNIE ROLL OUT COOKIES
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup lightly salted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Whisk dry flour, salt and baking powder in bowl and set aside. Mix butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and cocoa in mixer. Gradually add flour mixture, and mix until smooth. Wrap in plastic and chill for at least one hour.
Roll out cookie dough on floured counter. Cut into desired shapes, brushing extra deposits of flour off the top. (It does disappear once baked, though, so don’t overly fret if they go into the oven looking white.) Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 8 to 11 minutes (the former for 1/8-inch thick cookies, the latter for 1/4-inch cookies) until the edges are firm and the centers are slightly soft and puffed.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
Peanut Butter Cut-Outs
Yield: 36 Servings
4 c flour
1/4 ts salt
1 TBS. baking powder
1 c creamy peanut butter
1 c butter; softened
1 c dark brown sugar
2 eggs
2/3 c corn syrup
Preheat oven to 325øF.
Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together. Set aside. In another
bowl, beat peanut butter, brown sugar, eggs, and corn syrup until
smooth. Slowly add flour mixture, and blend to form a smooth dough. Wrap
and refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours.
Divide dough in half. Working with one half at a time, roll on lightly
floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness for thin cookies, 1/4 inch for
thicker, softer cookies. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased
cookie sheets for 8-10 minutes. Decorate with piped chocolate, royal
icing, or powdered-sugar icing, or enjoy plain. Makes 3 dozen.
I like the cookie bouquets for birthday gifts. You don't have to have cutters to make the shapes...just make the shapes from paper and lay the pattern down on the rolled out cookie dough and cut around it. To put the cookies on a stick you can just lay the stick on the back of the baked cookie and pour some melted chocolate over it....this will "glue" it to the cookie.

Anyone have ideas on what to do with an outdated Calendar?

I have a 2008 calendar with pictures I love. Would love to do something with the pictures....like make something to give as gifts.
Any ideas??
It's the art work I like. The artist is Warren Kimble who is a personal friend of my family. If I could make gifts out of the pics to give to family members it would be cool.

Why not take them to Kinkos and have them make a 2009 or 2010 calendar? That way you are not wasting valuable paper and you can reuse pictures that you really love! Kinkos does a nice job of making calendars!
