Newborn baby boy homemade gift ideas?

Q. So my Dad and step mom are having an baby boy and I'm wanting to make them (the baby) something cute or something that he'll use. I was going to make a blanket but my aunt beat me to it, so I'm needing new ideas ASAP.
Also I don't live with my Dad and Step mom so I don't have a pictures but I'm visiting the week the baby is being born. Oh also I'm VERY creative once I get an idea I can make almost everything

Answer
Make a diaper cake or a gift basket. You can include almost anything in a diaper cake or a baby gift basket. You can choose a special theme for your cake or basket and come up with something very cute!
Here is a link on diaper cakes and how to make them: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/how-to-make-diaper-cakes.html. For more unique ideas visit the diaper cake gallery on that page and you'll get tons of ideas.
Here a link for making homemade gift baskets: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/newborn-baby-gift-baskets.html. Also see the section on speciality baby gift baskets. You can for example make a bath gift basket in the shape of a sailing boat.

The website has still more homemade baby gift ideas such as a handmade baby picture frame, a baby time capsule or a door plaque. I am sure you'll find something awesome to make for your step brother!

Hope that helps.

What are some great gift ideas to give parents of a newborn baby or a child?

A bunch of my friends are starting to have kids now, so I want to give them a gift that is really useful and thoughtful. I usually fall back on either a bib, little baby clothes, onesies, or a gift certificate to Target. Is there anything more unique or more useful I can get the parents? Are there any customized gifts that are good? Since I don't have kids, I am clueless! Thanks!

Answer
Newborns - DIAPERS DIAPERS AND MORE DIAPERS. I know it's boring, but it is VERY useful. Diapers are expensive and babies go through a TON. They are also ok if you get the wrong size, because they are very easily exchangable with or without a receipt.

Fantastic gift for toddlers - they have music CD's and books that you can order personalized with the children's name. Like my daughter (2 years old) has an Elmo CD that says "Come on Mia, let's play a game!" and she just LOVES it. She will listen to it over and over again...

My oldest (five years old) has many books that are personalized with her name printed into the story and she just thinks that is cooler than snot. :)

Also a really nice gift that I have been given in the past was blankets and pillowcases with the children's names embriodered along the edges. It was very nice, and I knew they had put some thought into it. Don't know if you know anyone who does sews, but you should be able to find several shops that do it on commision as well.

Good luck to you! Hope I helped.... :)

Happy holidays, I hope you had a good one.

christmas question...?

Q. christmas question... okay so as a mommy i have had 3 past christmas times. my sons 1st christmas i lived at home with my mom so didnt have to pay bills other than my car and phone so my son got a lot spent on him for christmas and had A LOT of gifts. his second christmas the older ladies at work were talking about how they missed getting gifts for small children and would like to help out the associates with kids so they had employees with kids who wanted to participate write down their childs gender, age, clothing sizes, and what they liked. my son got about 6 toys and an outfit from that and i bought him 3 toys and an outfit. last year money was tight bc i was on my unpaid 7 week maternity leave so we had 1 income. my son got like 3 toys, a pillow pet, an outfit and had some candy/matchbox cars, and a dvd in his stocking. my daughter got a 2010 christmas teddy bear (since it has the yr she was born on it to keep as a keepsake thing and a little stuffed snow man in her stocking. .... so for 2/3 years our christmas's have been really small. this year im thinking of getting my son his first bike with training wheels (all he has now is a redflyer tricycle), a helmet, and an outfit (and stocking stuffers of course) and getting my daughter a baby doll, outfit, new shoes (and stocking stuffers) are my kids going to grow up thinking my christmas's stunk and were nothing special if they only get a small number of things? is it okay for now, but i should up the gifts as they get older??
also, my kids both have birthdays in the winter..my daughter is in november and my son is in february. they have huge birthday parties.

Answer
Well, our focus in regard to Christmas is on Christ. We do gifts, but we save big/multiple gifts for birthdays- that breaks the expense up, too.

I think that your children are getting PLENTY. Honestly, one year we did do a "big" Christmas- it was not meant to be that way, but I had bought more than I realized and they were overwhelmed by it all (not in a good way) and it was too much clutter to bring in at one time. Especially at their ages, keep it simple but even as they get older (I have four children ranging from 13 to 1) you do not have to go overboard.
