Gift ideas for 10 and 12 year old boys?

infinitysb

Hi, I need some gift ideas for my nephews. Money is tight this year so I can't spend too much. My brother has decided to show me up and get them both a Wii, but he forgot about getting any games for it. So he said I should get them Wii games. I don't really like being bound by his gift, and all the good games I saw were over $40, even used. I don't want to get crappy games that they won't play. Anyways, I would rather get something more with a personal touch. The 12 year old is into his guitar and drums and rock music. He also likes sports, as a spectator, and is into nerdy stuff like Star Trek (thanks to his dad). The 10 year old is an animal lover, who doesn't like sports, and is into anime type stuff like Naruto, Inuyasha and whatnot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate. Please try to keep it under $25

Answer
10 and 12 year olds are just the perfect age to spark an interest that they may gravitate to later in years and become a profession....The star trek boy may lean toward astronomy and become a Nasa expert..the field is wide open. A good telescope may spark a desire to know more...the animal lover may become a Veterinarian or animal biologist with great books about Jack and the Sea or the "crikey" guy (can't think of his name) and books about the little known world of animals. They may not thank you profusely now but later on, call you their mentor.

Gift ideas for 2 year old boys birthday?

mom of two

My son is turning two soon and I need help finding gift ideas for it. He has a three year old brother so my house is over run with toys. I'm hoping for ideas other than a the usual. Such as trucks, blocks, dinosaurs and so on. We like to read so we also have an abundance of books as well. Does any one of ideas that stand out and are different?

Answer
-Dress up for boys. Hats, vests, beards (style ideas: pirates, construction workers, lumber jacks, etc). I've seen those on Etsy and I think they are adorable! But that would add to the toys, but at 2 years they begin playing make-believe.

-Edible playdough. Make it yourself (google search or look it up on pinterest), or buy it from Etsy. Put it in a fun jar or tupperware. Eventually it would disappear either because he ate it or because he let it dry out. No toys to add to the clutter!

-Pop-up Playhouse. We got one of these for my son last Christmas for about $18. You can get them at most of the big stores (Target, Walmart, we got ours at Big Lots and I've seen them at Ross and TjMaxx). The beautiful thing about it is it's giant when it's set up, but the whole thing folds up flat in less than 10 seconds and slips nicely behind the couch. Easy clean up, big fun!

There's another great list of birthday gift ideas - it's for 1 year old kids, but most would still work for a 2 year old - like bath toys, sensory balls and stuff like that. It would be adding to the toys, but I thought it worth mentioning... at least for some more ideas.

Good luck whatever you decide!

Does anyone have a different baby shower idea?

great gift ideas 10 year old boys
on So you have a 10 year old boy on your list
great gift ideas 10 year old boys image

potatocake

I am throwing a baby shower April 10th in Ohio. Im trying to think of a theme that would be totally different and game ideas that's different. She is having a boy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer
Themes: Stars and Moons, Safari Animals, Rubber Duckies, Clothesline with Diapers and Onesies, Sports Theme, Teddy Bears, Garden Bugs, Fairytale, Springtime Flowers, Mod Mom, Rainforest, Umbrellas, Storybooks, Lambs and Ivy, Circus, Nursery Rhymes.

Games:

Baby Shower Bodysuit Decorating
Bodysuits are one thing the new parents will need lots of!! A great activity is to have guests at the baby shower decorate bodysuits!! Purchase enough bodysuits and fabric paint for each guest attending and set up the "creation station" in a location that will not be needed during the rest of the shower!! (This will allow the bodysuits
to dry without them having to be moved.) When the shower is over...offer to wash the custom bodysuits for the new parents, making sure to follow the directions on the fabric paint bottles. For large baby showers....purchase a wide range of sizes so these creations will be a part of baby's first full year!

Suggestion: Cover the table being used with a plastic drop cloth covered with an
old tablecloth that is no longer needed (the one with gravy stains on it from last
Thanksgiving??). 5 Tubes of 1.25oz Colored Fabric Paint should be enough to
decorate 10 Bodysuits (when used sparringly).

___________________
Letters to The Baby

As the guests walk to the table (or designated location)where the gifts are being placed.....have a special station set up on the side of the gift table. At this station have cute baby themed stationary laid out with some nice pens. Beside the stationary have a card out asking each guest to take a few moments to write a note to the new baby. When the guests have finished writing their notes, have a tray or basket provided to place them in. Once all the guests have written their notes....the hostess can then choose one or two, at random, to be chosen for a prize (this could be your shower's door prize). When the shower is over these notes can be placed in a scrapbook or album to be enjoyed by the parents now and by the baby years down the road. Sweet and sentimental and sure to be treasured by the new family!!!

Suggestion: I would advise that these notes not be read in front of the crowd....your guests may not want their letters shared aloud for all to hear. These are their special words to baby and the new parents so allow these words to be just for them!!

___________________
Guess the Guest

Have each guest send you a copy of their baby photo prior to the baby shower. Display the photos in a Baby photo album or on a nicely decorated piece of poster board. Number them and have the guests try to guess which guest is which baby. This is a great way for people to get to know each other at the shower. A great way to get the party started!

______________________
Baby Birth Day and Time Wager

Have each of your guests throw in a set amount of money to wager on the day and time baby will be born. Record those figures to reference on the big day! You may even want to take email addresses and email everyone their pick after the shower. When the big day arrives send the new mommy flowers or a diaper wreath with half the collected money (the flowers would be from the entire group) and the other half could be used to purchase a gift certificate for the winner. You could even have the new parents send the gift certificate when they mail the announcements and let the baby shower guests know who won!

What to get a 4 year old boy for Christmas?

Q. I need to get a Christmas gift for a 4 year old boy.
He really likes animals, coloring, and crafty stuff, and Nick Jr.
I was thinking about the Crayola glow dome...
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

A. I think the little ones are so much easier to buy for. Wait until you have teenagers and you have no idea what to buy them anymore... so I'm rather surprised with this question.

You can get him anything from...
- craft supplies like crayons/marker sets
- stuffed animal of his favourite animal
- colouring and activity books
- electronic toys & games (like plug and play games that you plug into your TV)
- since it's winter... think sleds or "saucers", or if any of his parents skii or snowboards... think about getting a mini snowboard or a pair of skiis to get him started.
- i know little guys like lego, or even k'nex are great fun.
here are some that are listed $10 and under:
http://www.knex.com/Shop/theme_search.php?searchType=price&subType=0_10

Walk into Wal-Mart or any toy shop and think of what little boys would like! If it's not your kid, make sure the product you're buying is kid-safe... and doesn't have little pieces they can choke on. If you're not sure about a gift idea... you could always double check with the parent too.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

What is a great gift idea for a 8 year old boy?

Q. i'm not sure if he's turning 7, 8 or 9 but I don't know anything about him and I need to get him a birthday gift. Any suggestions? Please do not suggest computer or video games cause I don't think he uses that kinda stuff. Thanks in advance 10 points for best answer, don't forget!

A. Legos, transformers, k-nex, board games, etc.

What would be the best starter telescope for a 10 year old boy?
Q. Christmas gift suggestion needed.

A. For a 10-year-old I would recommend binoculars instead of a telescope, as a telescope presents too many challenges for a child that age without a lot of knowledgeable adult help. A 7x35 or 8x40 binocular would have many uses beyond astronomy. When I was 10, my dad's 6x30 binoculars were one of my favourite toys:
http://www.telescope.com/control/binoculars/waterproof-binoculars/orion-8x40-worldview-waterproof-binoculars

If it must be a telescope, the Orion FunScope is probably the most kid-friendly telescope around:
http://www.telescope.com/control/telescopes/mini-dobsonian-telescopes/funscope-76mm-reflector-telescope

This larger version is better in many ways:
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~product_id=09541/~pcategory=telescopes/~category_id=recommendedkids

Here are a few web pages with good information on beginner's telescopes:
http://www.gaherty.ca/tme/TME0702_Buying_a_Telescope.pdf
http://www.scopereviews.com/begin.html
http://observers.org/beginner/j.r.f.beginner.html

For more advanced information, read Phil Harrington's Star Ware, 4th edition (Wiley).

You'll get the greatest value for your money with a Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount, such as these:
http://www.telescope.com/control/category/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~VIEW_INDEX=0/~VIEW_SIZE=1000000
http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product.php?class1=1&class2=106

Buy from a store which specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online; don't buy from department stores, discount stores or eBay as mostly what they sell is junk. Find your local astronomy club and try out different telescopes at one of their star parties:
http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/organizations

I strongly recommend that beginners steer clear of astrophotography until they have learned their way around the sky. Astrophotography is by far the most expensive and difficult area of amateur astronomy.

Many people who buy telescopes have no idea how to find interesting things to observe. A good introduction to finding things is NightWatch by Terence Dickinson (Firefly). A more advanced book is Star Watch by Phil Harrington (Wiley).

How am I going to be able to afford Christmas presents for my family this year?
Q. I am a real estate agent. I just barely scrape by every month to pay my bills. Sometimes I have to get my oldest sister to pay a bill for me till I am able to pay her back. Just being able to put gas in my truck and buy groceries every week is a struggle for me. How am I supposed to come up with enough money to buy Christmas presents for my family? They deserve something nice. Any ideas would be appreciated. Have a great day!

A. looks like you've had a tough time this year! im so sorry that it's had an effect on your family.

wal-mart. i mean, really, they have great deals. if you have a young daughter, find a good deal on barbie's or a doll like a barbie. a baby doll is always a good thing. for a boy, get him a whiffle bat and bal set. they are great and not expensive. or look for a cheap remote controlled car. for older girls, maybe if you can afford it, a $10 itunes gift card? look for a cheap mp3 player (this is good for older girls AND boys). teenage girls are the hardest to shop for. boys, well just give them a baseball mitt or something. (you know your kids better than i do.

another idea for presents for young kids, just re wrap something you gave the older kids a long time ago, something that might have been sitting in the basement for a while not getting used. i did this, and my youngest loved it and my oldest didn't even remember it.

What to buy a 10-year old boy for Christmas?
Q. This year I'm giving him and each of his siblings a duffel bag filled with their gifts. The siblings are easy to shop for, but I'm stuck on the 10-year old. I need ideas. He likes history stuff and war-type video games. Please, no games with swearing in them, I don't mind the violence, but no swearing. Any other idea for a ten year old would be great.
