Q. One of my best friends is having surgery, shell be in the hospital a couple days but recovering at home for weeks.

What are some gift ideas for her recovery?

A. If she is going to be laid up at home, I'd get her something to do...books, magazines, games, etc. Crafts if she is crafty. I would come over after she is settled in, maybe after the first week...and do her toenails/fingernails or some such, bring some movies to watch, etc.

Q. A 9 year old girl I know is having heart surgery the day before Halloween. I am going to go up and visit her, but I need gift ideas. Any suggestions?
I would kind of like it to be a unique gift (not teddy bears and balloons) and would like to keep the cost under $20 if possible.

A. my 9 yr old is obsessed with fur real friends, you can get them at target or walmart for 10-15 bucks and they make every animal you can think of. she is building a small army in her room. ask her mom what her favorite animal is or just go and see what they have at your location. kids jewlery is also a favorite, you can find little bracelets and necklaces everywhere and since it is halloween i would get her some spooky orange and black things.

A. I like to give some real cute and colorful PJ's. Maybe some slippers to go with that. Generally a person who has surgery will be living in their pajamas for a week or so, and being a woman, you know, we "LOVE" clothes. Also, a gift certificate to have her nails done, is a great gift idea too,....for when she feels up to it. This will make her feel good after she recovers. By the way, have you ever heard of a PJ telegram? A real neat gift idea! This gift is Way awe sum! For starters its packed in a beautiful wire hat box. Then you choose a set of PJ that will be packed in the hatbox. They also add bath products, some great teas, slippers, and a cute stuff animal. Its a "great" gift, I got one last year and I Loved it!!!

A. If there is an Edible Arrangement Company near you, or any other company that does anything similar to their product, definitely get it!!! I volunteer at a hospital and when I deliver those arrangements people get EXTREMELY excited (much more than when they receive flowers, games, or stuffed animals)

I thought about a surprise party with his really close friends since he doesn't get to see them a lot because he lives in a different city two hours away. Ideas?

A. What about planing a picnic for him? You could make it a surprise. You could cook a big meal and bring a blanket to put on the ground. Maybe you could stay until night and than look at the stars, If you could find a park by a lake that would be nice too.
