I am meeting my girlfriend's parents for the first time in under two weeks. I'm not a 'youngin', so I have been down this road before, but 20+ years ago.

What are other gift ideas beyond wine and flowers? For further refinement, we are meeting for dinner in a restaurant.

Hey I think you can get them something practical yet personal. For the mom, you can get her a nice pair of gloves. I recommend you check out KinaRosa on Etsy ( http://www.etsy.com/shop/kinarosa ) These gloves are handmade, very high quality. They are unique yet affordable. My mom loves the gloves. I am sure it'll be a great gift for your girlfriend's mom since it's winter time. If you are not sure what color to buy, go for black, chocolate brown or burgundy red. They are safe colors that every woman loves.

For the dad, do you know what he likes? I think it's always good to go for more practical gifts for men. If he like cigars, you can buy him a nice box of cigars. If he like coffee, get him some good coffee beans. If you really don't know what he likes, you can get him a nice pen. My dad likes pens from Cross. They are not too expensive, but they are good pens.

ok, so I need to know what to get both my dad and brother for christmas. My price limit is probably $20-$30 dollars each. My brother is 20 and my dad is in his late 40's. They both are huge michigan football fans but also have plenty of michigan things. they are also sports fans and exercise a lot. I use all of our photos and the picture we like as the cell photos to make a large picture.
He said it's sweet and creative.

My friend is going to volunteer for the peace corps in Africa. I need some useful gift ideas for her! Any suggestions?

My daughter is in the Peace Corps in Peru. I gave her a Swiss Army knife - the one they call "Camper". It doesn't have all the blades known to man, but each one is useful. I think it is the best compromise between size and utility they make.

Once your friend gets there she will find things she wishes she had; small things, like paperback books. Ask her to ask you for stuff every once in a while. Keep it small and inexpensive. You don't want her to be the material queen of Kenya.

When I was a PCV, many years ago, my grandmother wrote short, cheerful letters every week, and enclosed a week's worth of "Peanuts", my favorite comic strip. It was the nicest thing anyone did for me in the 27 months I was gone.
