Gift ideas for a teacher?

I have twin boys who started pre-school in September. They attend daily from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. They only have a few weeks left, and I would love to get their teacher (as well as her assistant) a gift....just to say thank you and show my appreciation. They really do a lot of stuff at this preschool, and I am so thankful that my boys got to experience everything. What would be an appropriate gift to get the teachers? I was looking at the personalize keepsake boxes for teachers, but we got them personalized candy jars around Christmas time. So I didn't really want to do that. Would a nice flower bouquet be a good idea? Or do you think teachers would prefer something else? I am so clueless, but I would really like to get something nice for them. I am not trying to "suck up" to the teachers, I just really do appreciate all they have done in the past 8 months. So any ideas would be great!
So many great suggestions....thank you all!! However, I think I am just going to go with the flowers and a thank you card with a handwritten message. I see the point about it being chaos in the morning with the flowers, but our preschool is pretty small and we don't usually don't arrive at the same time as other parents. I really like the gift card idea too, but I can't put a price on my appreciation. A $25 or so gift card just doesn't seem enough for what these teachers have done.

Showing appreciation to your child's teacher is a good idea. I'm sure she will love your gift. So how about giving her something like a handcrafted wooden jewelry box? I gave a teacher a MarqART box once and she liked it a lot. Check out their collection, they have some really awesome stuff.

I'm a freshmen in highschool, and this year my mom decided that I should give scented candles to all my teachers, including the male ones. Does this seem weird to anybody else? What are some other gifts I could give them, especially unisex gifts? (scented candles for male teachers just seems kind of creepy to me)

Starbucks gift cards. Any sort of gift card, really.

Scented candles will get put out at the next garage sale. That goes for either sex.

I myself think that finding the right gift can sometimes be difficult. What I think is
that people tend to like unique gifts that are hard to find and not sold in stores. People like the gifts more this way since they cannot be replaced. I have been buying a few items from http://www.thinkfuntoys.com and giving it away to friends and family. They all love it. The stuff there are pretty cheap and unique and they deliver fast.

I have three little girls and I need gift ideas for 6 teachers.

1. Three daycare teachers for my little girl
2. My middle daughter's 1st grade school teacher
3. My oldest daughter's 4th grade teacher / our at home French teacher

$20 per person is actually a good amount to work with. You could get nice bath/body gift sets for them. Or you could do the cocoa mug gift sets. You could also do a gift card to grocery store or general store. I don't know what's popular in your area, but here it would be a Jewel gift card or Target gift card, something along those lines. I think a gift card and maybe a small box of candy would be really nice for them.

What is a unique gift to give a third grade teacher for an end of the school year present?

Q. I have been a parent volunteer since my oldest started kindergarten in 1984 and have helped with numerous end of the school year parties. My youngest is in 3rd grade and I think my creativity has taken a leave of absence (or just too tired). I am just not coming up with any ideas for a teacher present this year. What are some good teacher gifts that you can think of? Some of the things I have done in the past are gift certificates to restaurants, teacher stores, sporting events, book stores; fabric painted sweatshirts, tote bags, aprons with kids' names and handprints; flowers, plants, and trees; one year I did a summer survival kit with sunscreen, a book, a sun hat, etc, in a styrafoam cooler. All of these are thoughtful gifts and appreciated by teachers. Does anyone have other suggestions for truly unique gift ideas? Thanks!

A. I am a teacher and by far the nicest suggestion is a book with notes from the kids. You have certainly given wonderful presents in the past too. But no one can ever give the gift of real appreciation. I have many mugs, t-shirts, plants etc but the gifts I treasure and that I take out when I need a lift are notes from my students and a well worn little book given to me by a class over 22 years ago. I love all my gifts and feel grateful that people have taken time to select and give a gift when we are all so busy so I am sure anything would be fine...but a little book of notes from the kids...a priceless jewel!
