a nice (small, under $20) gift for a 9 year old boy?

Q. I'm getting a birthday present for my little cousin, but since I have to ship it to him it can't be too big

Answer
My son is nine, he loves to read comic books, sporting magazines, Zoo books, he collects Pokemon cards and Yugio cards, baseball cards, is he into sports? If he plays baseball, a pair of batting gloves would be a nice gift they are small and light weight, a CD, a baseball cap, a card with money in it, mine loves to receive money.

a PC game, polar bowler, any kind of hunting or fishing game,

he is just now getting into model cars, and air planes.

he likes to play with hot wheels cars, A baseball, a wallet,

seeds for planting a garden, if he has some where to plant one,

fresh out of ideas good luck hope I gave you an idea or two that you can use.

Gift ideas for boys 7-9 years-old?

Leticia

My family and I "adopted" and orphanage, in Tijuana, Mexico, for El Dia del Niño. We need ideas for what kind of gifts to buy five 7-9 year old boys. We want to get them something that is not electronic (because they won't always be able to buy batteries and stuff). If you could give me ideas of what boys 7-9 years-old like, that would be great. Thanks.

Answer
Any type of building blocks, any kind of popular action figures, simple games where they don't need to read the English, outdoor equipment like balls, puzzles, crafts. At that age, kids still like most things even if its not some fancy name brand...I would imagine especially so for orphans. Whatever you can afford will be appreciated.

any awesome x-mas ideas for a 9 year old boy?

Harmony

something to keep him occupied over the winter?
cheap or expensive, i just need some ideas. i have no idea what to get or what to tell family to get.

Answer
I have a 10 year old daughter and 8 year old son (and a baby as well).

I can tell you that a Wii is AWESOME! They are a bit pricy and can be hard to find, but it is an outstanding experience. My children can get a workout indoors, playing the boxing that comes on the Wii Sports disc (included with the system)-there is also baseball, bowling, tennis and golf on that included disc.

Both of my children want a Nintendo DS for Christmas. I am not sure they are getting them-in fact, they are probably not-but I have seen them in bundles in the stores, with games and such included.

My son LOVES anything related to carss, and the Hot Wheels Trick Tracks (might be spelled Trax) are at the top of his list. There are three or four different sets, that I know of, and they cost about $10 each.

My son has play carpets to use his car own, with roads, construction sites, etc. I have seen them at Wal Mart, but Toys R Us has them and the best ones I have found were at Home Depot (in the rug area).

Transformers are another favorite of my son, but be careful-I have bought several transformers that did not transform.

Board games. There is one called Gassy Gus that you can find at Books A Million and online. You are trying to feed Gus foods that will not make him explode, so while it is a bit appaling it is educational in a way that will keep children interested. Of course, the standard's are good-Operation now comes in a variety of versions including Junkyard Jalopy (car related), Shrek, etc.

Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs should never be overlooked, as well as Mega Blocks/Legos. My son will build entire towns with these for his cars to ride through. It really is educational and entertaining.

How about a science kit? Magnets, Chemistry-if you have a store called Wonder Works near you, or Hobby Town USA you will find things like this that will keep him busy. Ask family for gift certificates to such places, and he can pick his own.

Books! Boys tend to not enjoy reading as much as girls, but there are a lot of good books out there that can make it more appealing to them. Find books based on soemthing he is interested in, or a magazine subscription (Your Big Backyard and Ranger Rick are both nature/animal related, Highlights for Children has a lot of activities to keep them busy, National Geographic Kids, Sports Illustrated for Kids, etc. The possibilities are endless).

How about a membership to something he would be interested in? The Children's Museum, karate lessons, swimming (most centers offer it even in winter, the pools are heated) etc.

Other things that my eight year old enjoys or thinks he would enjoy include: a pogo stick, stilts, walkie talkies (go for the 'real' ones that cost $30 or so instead of the toy ones, and even then know that they do NOT get the range they indicate unless you are in an open field/prairie).

His own real tools (miniature versions, but metal not plastic) and the materials to build something-a tool box, a birdhouse, whatever-these can be found at Toys R Us, Home Depot and any hobby shop.

I hope these ideas help!

If you have a 9 year old boy could you help me with present ideas?

I have a sweet 9 yr old nephew and I want to get him something in the 20 dollar range for Christmas. Last year I got him a movie so this year I want to get him something else. All i know is he likes electronics, action/activity, being outside.... I dont know what older boys like to play with in the toy section.... I have young children. Thanks!
I dont want to do giftcards with a 9yr old but thanks! I think its much more exciting to actually open a present when ur a kid.

Answer
I know what you mean about the gift cards --- I like to see my nephew and nieces open up a shiny present with bows and ribbons -- piques their curiosity and nothing beats watching them opening up a fun toy! (Playing with them is another story.... LOL!)

I did some googling and found some sites with the "hottest Christmas toys." Here's one that has over 20 different presents for boys, girls and the family.....

There are even explanations and details of these popular Christmas toys, which helps out coz I didn't have a clue!! :) Hope this gives you some ideas!

My son is ADD. He is not the hyper type just the type that can't keep attention well. I was thinking of getting him a the LeapFrog tablet but he HATES to read. Does anyone have any good gift ideas that I can get for a 9 year old boy with ADD?

Answer
I'd say get him something that everyone can enjoy (not in the sense of arguments and shouting who's go it is, but in the sense of you can sit as a family and play/use it).

Perhaps, if you don't have one already, get him a Nintendo Wii; you can get them dirt-cheap now and there are bundles and bundles of games with them. They also require being physical, usually what any kid (not just those with ADD) require.
I can't think of much else, but maybe a Nintendo DS or PSP or something similar?
I'm sure he'd appreciate you / family members playing along with him, and the more choices in games he has at his fingers, the longer he'll be entertained.
Hoped this helps, if not, I hope you get the advice you're looking for!

what is a good present for a 9 year old boy?

Melissa

I don't see my nephew very often he lives across the country. I don't really know what he is into and I don't speak to my brother in law as often as I would like. My sister passed away and this is there first visit to NY from California and I want to buy a little gift. What do 9 year old boys like? He lives in southern California and his father is very well to do so he has alot of things. Any ideas would be helpful- thank you.
Thank you everyone!

Answer
Something he can play with outside is always a safe bet for a 9 yo boy. Maybe something for the pool, such as dive sticks or one of those cool under water torpedo things (just got one for my son for Easter). Good luck!
