Christmas gift exchange game ideas?

m_lvb18

My extended family instead of drawing names and buying presents for them, we've decided to do a game and girls buy a girl gift and guys buy a guy gift. We need an idea for a game to play to exchange. we'd also like to be able to steal gifts.

Answer
We do a gift exchange grab bag thing. Basically all the presents are in a big pile...you could seperate these out into boy pile and girl piles. Then we draw numbers. Person 1 goes and picks out a gift and opens it. Person 2 can either steal Person 1's gift that they just opened or grab a new present to open. It goes on like that until the last person has opened a gift. We also have rules that the 3rd owner of a gift is the final owner. That sometimes comes into play if there is a REALLY popular item and everyone keeps stealing it.

What is a white elephant gift exchange?

Bob the Bu

What exactly is a white elephant gift exchange? I'm doing my first white elephant gift exchange ever. Please help me figure out what it is and what gifts are appropriate...maybe name some you've received or given...

It's at a Christian bible study (ages 20 - 35) and the limit is $5. and

Will this gift work?
I stopped past a local thrift store and picked up an 8-track tape (in excellent condition) titled Jesus Loves You (pretty sure it contains traditional christian hymns), a cook book called West Coast Cook Book (copyrighted 1965, in great condition) and a book called Mixed Roots: a Guide for Jewish Grandparents of Interfaith Grandchildren (in excellent condition) where someone carefully highlighted all most important parts on every single page. For all of them it was under $5, including tax. And the pièce de résistance: a bag of working, but used light bulbs (incandescent/flood blubs) I've had in my cupboard for 2 and a half years (maybe 7 - 10 of them total). It's one gift wrapped wrapped in a box with the light bulbs put into a gift bag.

Will this gift work?

Answer
The idea of a white elephant gift is that in some culture (I'm guessing in India?) if the king wanted to give you a special gift he would give you a gift of a rare white elephant. You would have to cherish it and take care of it for the rest of its life while it ate you out of house and home. So on one hand it was a gift and an honor, but on the other hand you really didn't want it. It has evolved to mean exchanging gifts that no one wants. For example, one guy emptied his closet of his ugly ties. Another friend painted a pretty picture of a road running through the woods, over a bridge and up to a distant barn - but she forgot to put a stream in the picture. The bridge was over nothing. And then there was the puzzle with one piece missing. Sounds like your gift will fit right in.

HELP on idea for (funny) gift exchange?

Ip

I'm in this gift exchange and it's kind of a gag gift thing (whatever, it's supposed to be a funny joke) for example: fuzzy handcuffs or edible underwear
Stuff like that, so any ideas?

(it's for a girl)

Answer
I don't know if you have a limit as to how much to spend but an inexpensive gift could be a couple of magazines showing really buff guys, like a weightlifters magazine. Perhaps a gift certificate, if they have them, to a sex toy shop. When a friend of mine got married, his soon-to-be wife, at her bachelorette party, received a check for $50 from her sisters and friends, many of whom worked at a bank. She is a very tiny lady but the check was written on a pair of panties big enough to fit a 300 pound woman. The bank cashed it. Last year at Christmas a family member, an older guy, kept going on about how he hated coconut and anything with coconut or coconut milk in it. I just wrapped a fresh coconut for him for Christmas.

I need work gift exchange ideas for work?

We usually do a "secret santa" exchange at work. The only problem is that we don't know who will all be attending, and don't want to give a name and that person not show, like in the past. Do you have any ideas, other than everyone just bringing in a gift and putting it in a pile to pick from? We are an office of about 25 people. Thank you.

Answer
Make a gift basket you can do
cheeses, crackers and those rolls of meat
Movie basket -2 movies, some popcorn and a few big boxes of candy(like the ones you get at the movies) you can now buy them at the stores.
Chocolate lovers basket just put a bunch of kinds of boxed chocolate candy in the basket
Candy lover basket is with different kinds of bagged candies.
That way you don't have to worry if a male or female gets your gift, it works with either one.
A fun thing to do is play Dirty Santa - first person picks a gift, next person in line can take a new gift or take the first persons gift-if they take the first persons they pick something new,3rd person can take person # 1or 2's gift or get a new one off the table - you do this till all gifts are taken and everyone has a gift.
Hope this helps.

Q. I need a good gift exchange gift! what do both girls and guys like? i was thinking an itunes gift card, but that seems a little boring.

Answer
How about a "Movie Theater" gift basket. You could purchase a new release, enclose 2 or 3 bags of microwaveable popcorn, a 2 liter of coke, a package of twislers or a couple boxes of movie sized candy....Instead of getting a basket get a large popcorn bowl to put all the items in. Its something that either a guy or girl can enjoy. My family has received them several times and we've always enjoyed it.

What activities to organise for annual dinner and how to do a gift exchange?

roselina_r

We had an auction last year and as for the gift exchange we had something call secret santa whereby the receiver of the gift do not know who is the gift from.Kindly help me out suggesting something different from last year. Thank you so much.

Answer
Just please DO NOT do that gift exchange when people have numbers and you can pick from either a wrapped gift under the tree or take a gift from a coworker. I've had soo many jobs do that. All it does it make people feel insecure when their gift isn't traded 5 times. Or people get pissed when they open a great gift early b/c they aren't going to get it in the end. In a group of 20, only one person goes home happy. Everyone else wishes they had those 2 hours back.

Plus I've had it happen once where we got to pick 3 different numbers so that everyone would have two chances to steal a gift. Problem was that several of us ended up with low numbers and went home with no gift at all. Yeah. That sucked.

Also don't make things unisex. Most gifts appeal to either a man or a woman.

If you are going to allow gag gifts, make that the rule. All gifts must be under $15 and must be humorous. Or make a no gag gift rule. Between $10 and $20 and no gag gifts at all.

I like Secret Santa as long as you know each other. I hate buying gifts for people I don't know at all and have never met. Especially if the person in charge doesn't help at all. If you are going to run a secret santa, have every participant fill out a survey. The survey can change to different things. If you had any job, what would be your ideal job? What do you need for this job? This can allow a person to describe how they enjoy gardening, camping, or knitting. Include Things You have enough of (please no more bath products), favorite scent, favorite restaurant, favorite store. That way people can at least make an effort to Santa something they would like.

We did a 2 round Secret Santa. You pick a name. Go get the survey and get them a gift. Then check off the question that you got (for example--check off Favorite Scent). Put survey back. Then draw names and do it again. That also gives you the opportunity to regift that 1st round gift.

My sister's company did a Christmas ornament exchange. It was great b/c no one had expectations. Everyone just got a simple ornament and hung it on the tree. Make sure you do not have non-Christians in the office when starting this tradition.

I think the best idea is a gift card exchange. Everyone bring a $20 gift card to different places. Then you can pick a new card or switch with someone else. You can only be stolen from twice. Everyone gets a gift card. Everyone will be happy with getting to pick something out at Best Buy, PetSmart, Target, etc.

My family usually does a gift exchange between the cousins but times are hard and the budget would be too low to be worth it. We have trying to figure something else out but we cant ;? any body have any ideas, or what do you and your family do for fun for christmas?

Answer
Why not do a cousins' dessert pot luck? Each of you can make and bring your favorite dessert to the gathering and share what everyone brought. To make it more fun, you could have everyone give a little speech about what they made and why. You could also go with a theme and say that everyone has to use at least 3 ingredients of one color, or that everything has to be something you can eat with your fingers.
Get creative and have some fun. Who cares if it'll make everyone fell silly? You're among family.

Is it customary to exchange gifts on a one year dating anniversary?

NathansMom

I got him a couple of gifts but I have a feeling he's not getting me anything. I'm just curious if most people exchange gifts on dating anniversaries? We've discussed doing something fun that day so I know he hasn't forgotten about it. No, I am not a gold digger...I'm just wondering if it was stupid for me to get him gifts?

Answer
It is pretty normal to get a little something. Next time, talk to him about what he deems appropriate.

How to say no gracefully to the Secret Santa gift exchange at work ?

I do not want to participate in the office Secret Santa gift exchange at work. They are already setting the amount to spend at $ 50.00 ! That is more than I can spend on some relatives and close friends ( way more ! ) When I suggested setting it at less, they said all you get for under $50.00 is junk !

Answer
I have long been an outspoken advocate AGAINST ALL office bullying for money, office begging, I find it outrageous and forces people who cannot afford it to fork over money they really need to live on. You tell them, as I finally did, that you cannot AFFORD ANY amount re "secret Santa" it is just an abuse of power and no decent office should permit this.
I had anniversaries, going away, get well, weddings, babies, birthdays, you name it we had it and finally after I was forced to give money for a gift for someone who was leaving who I disliked, I ended it, and gave no more for anything ever, incl the little pizza parties they gave.
