Since I am going to be the best man for the wedding, I would like some ideas on what to get the couple for their engagement gift. I want to get something unique and thoughtful that they would both enjoy.

Maybe do some brainstorming about things they enjoy doing. Perhaps tickets for something they've always wanted to do? Or a piece of furniture for their house?

I'd just be careful that it's something that they'd both enjoy equally, instead of something the guy would like better. Or, if it is a bit unbalanced, make it something that she would like better, since you and the guy are close and it'd welcome her into the fold, if that makes sense?

You need to get something for both of them, not just for your friend.

A nice bottle of wine or champagne is always appropriate. You could also get a wedding planning book. Maybe a gift card for some money off on a photography session. You could also get gift cards to a restaurant or massage... plan a date night for them together.
